Great video. Make sure you add Zinc oil additive when using conventional oil to older flat tappet lifter engines like that one! My engine rebuild guy always reminds me of this! Keep up the great work with the Cobalt boats. I have a 1985 CM9 and a 82 CS7 that have 5.7L MerCruiser engines.
Also check the shift cable below. They are bad to crack. And of course the u joint below’s.

It was obvious from your very first video of this series that there's a carb issue (notice the black smoke from the first time you got it running, AND the black sooted spark plugs). Rebuild it, should be easy as it's just a marine-grade Quadrajet. And the cylinder(s) that were seized are giving a lot of blowby. That block is on borrowed time LOL.

  • @z1catfish
    @z1catfish 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Caleld quadra junks for a reason...
REgardless, there is a tension screw in the underside of the shaft for the secondary, how you slow down the opening of the second butterflies.
They get wear and loosen up, and create the quadrajunk bog....

Was that fuel in the oil? FYI I love this project older Cobalt boats are my favorite. Great video as usual.

Yep! that was fuel, lots of it.... Carb issues for sure

I'm curious to see what those compression numbers are. It almost sounded like you had a busted valve spring and the engine had to "carry" that cylinder. I wouldn't even bother trying to fix that carb. New marine carbs from Summit will save you a lot of time and frustration. Looking forward to the next video!

Ben! What part of Lanier you launching at just kinda restored a 93 searay BR. I could help out with those restorations! lol
I usually launch on the south part of the lake. But I have a friend who owns a house on the north end.

I would Suggest Getting A Compression Gauge And Check Each Cylinder I Think It Should Be Over 150 Psi On Each Cylinder

I responded to your first video when you got it unlocked. As I have said in that first video the way and manor you did that you DAMAGED the engine. First of all it doesn’t sound right. It sounds as if it has low compression which is why it struggles to run. Secondly it smokes to much probably due to damaged rings when you first started it the way you did. Also which is causing the more than normal blow by. Take the engine out and have it rebuilt. You damaged the engine because of the way you first started it. Dude it’s NOT a timing issue. The engine is DAMAGED.

You can’t run old gas. Need to drain tank and rebuild carb. It also is mechanical secondary. Better pull out drive and put gimbal bearing and u joints with new bellows. WOW

All in the works now, thanks for watching!

Take my advice ok? The motor is trash. Get it rebuilt. That very first video the way you did it, you tore the motor up. Take this as a learning experience before you do this again. When boats sit up for along time they dry rot. Don’t get in such a hurry to get it on the water. Do things right the first time and you won’t have the trouble you are having. Remember people are watching you work on this. And what they see is that you don’t really have a clue as to what your doing. We all have been there, myself included. Take your time, be patient, FYI….your oil was that thin because your getting extreme amounts of blow by passing down into the crankcase. Thats oil and gas mixed together, DANGEROUS combination. Pull the engine out, get it rebuilt.

If your leak is truly the ujoint bellow, then that gimbal might be locking up and not doing you any favors for letting it idle.

Not funny...dangerous. Have you ever heard the term "sea worthy"? Problem is when you post video of dumb stuff like this it encourages others to do the same or worse. Plus when you go down it is a pain for all those involved, Ranger, Sherriff. Rescue

Thanks for your concers. Though the videos are lightheaeted and fun, I do not endanger myself or my fiancee. Precautions are taken and inspections performed in advance and behind the scenes to ensure the safety of all involved.
