Old GPUs are still the META?
absolutely

Surely, I mean they can’t be immediately obsolete right. But yeah kinda crazy

As ive always reminded myself, all these insane GPU prices aren't my problem. It's the problem of whoever buys them before me. 😂
Wise men buy their gpu's 2nd hand 😂 😂
The only "problem" i have with the gpu prices are that 1: they dont press down 2nd hand prices and 2: in a couple of years it seems this will still be the case, so they will be expensive 2nd hand as well.
Currently have a 3070 and wanted to upgrade to the 4080 but 1200 for a 80 series card is crazy. 30 series is still the meta gonna wait next gen and see what’s up if these prices are still heavily overpriced will just get a used 7900xtx or something in a couple years

Great buying advice for the price range. Really great to see these type of videos being put out when everything before this tended to lean towards "it depends on your use case". Thanks for pointing people away from definitively bad cards for the price point.

However I do still recommend the 3070 over the 4060 any day of the week

@@kaizer2k2 not necessarily, there are a lot of benefits to buying new. most people don't play games long enough throughout the week to care anyway and they just want to not have to worry about the lifespan/warranty of their parts. it's easy to forget that the vast majority of gamers (even PC gamers) don't care about hardware, they just want to play their favorite games when they have free time and not think about too much else. the most popular games currently don't require a ton of power to run anyway, they could pick up a 4060 and play games like league of legends, valorant, apex legends, overwatch 2 etc without noticing a difference.

Entirely honestly, while the 3070/ti are where it's at for
but on the other hand if you are paying 450-500$ (for the 3080) you expect more than 8 GB of VRAM, so even if it is a the best deal, it is still a bad deal.

Awesome Vid I'm about to upgrade and this test helped a lot thanks!
I havent experienced the actual good prices for new brand gpus and I have only seen 4060's and 4060 ti's in the $400-$600 bracket in my country. I dont really care about it being almost the same performance as the 30 series ones. The power draw is what hooked me the most so I can spend my time editing, playing, and doing 3D school works for hours without worrying about my family spending a lot on electric bills.
If you're really not bothered by power usage, you might want to consider the 2080ti too. It tends to slightly outperform the 3070, especially in games that use the extra VRAM it has, and it can be found for even less
More VRAM too. The downside is that the 2080 Ti's RT performance is terrible, worse than AMD's 6000 series.
@giglioflex good thing is, most people don't care about raytracing... especially when you are technically "budget" building anyway... crazy to call a 2080ti a budget card when I would've considered giving a man some top for one when they came out 😅😂

Great timing for this. I bought a blower style RTX 3070 for just under $300 yesterday for a living room gaming PC for my sister. I would have rather gone for a Radeon 6800 but they were usually selling for $75-100 more.
With how Nvidia is cutting the bus width on the 4060s/4070s and how easily they seem willing to not invest their newest version of DLSS into hardware that becomes last gen, I hope the 3070 I bought lives a solid 5+ years, even if I have to tune down some graphics settings.
Used last gen cards are great value now. I'm currently eyeing on a used 3080 as it costs around the same as the new 6700XT/4060 where I live.
I bought a 3080 at launch. I honestly think it’ll be my daily driver for at least 2 more generations. I only really play at 1440p these days and I don’t mind customizing some settings to get a playable framerate. Sure it would be nice to max out all of my settings but I’m honestly at that age that I just don’t care about stuff like that anymore. As long as it looks decent and I can get 90 fps or so most of the time, I’m happy.
3080 and 6800xt can get 70-80fps max settings 1440p on the most demanding games. That's plenty of fps for single player games. Not sure why ur saying u need to customize settings for a playable framerate
Yep, got a FE 3080 for MSRP back when they first launched, I'm a high framerate 1080p kind of guy, so I seriously doubt I'll look into upgrading for a few more generations; Until 240hz 1440/4k monitors are
How in the world does your 3080 not run more than 90fps at 1440p? I still have a 1070 and that runs 100+fps 1080p for most games. I guess the VRAM is the same? A bit sad tbh
@@deagle7602 He didn't say SP specifically. There are also tons of shitty games out there that require a lot more performance than they should. He also didn't say he "needed to" just that he didn't mind doing so.

Loving the videos man. Straight to the point. Easy to digest.
I have a Low profile 4060. Super satisfied. A 3070 is 100 more watts. I already get annoyed sometimes from how my room gets hot. At the same time, I like DLSS 3 frame generation. Double the FPS without room getting hotter.
Good choice.
Yeah I just don’t understand the hate 4060 gets
It's because of the youtube channels. They get used to the GPU progression. Always thinking more power with VRAM. People want GPU's the size of a computer but forget about space, heat and efficiency. They fail to realize that GPU technology is headed in different direction and progressing. People are also thinking about future proofing. Which in my opinion is no such thing. I futured proofed by purchasing on the month of release. lol A low profile GPU is not going to be released for a very long time. I am guessing they may skip on RTX 5000 series@@George_McLovin
Same, I dont understand why people hate on the 4060 either. People seem to forget that feeling when playing games for long sessions and the room gets hot. I talk with people about it and they say they start sweating. Every gamer is different though. Some play super graphically intensive games. Here is an example. I played RDR2 on 1600x900 with a 1050ti. Then I upgraded to a 4060 and tested RDR2 out on 1920x1080. Did I miss out? NO! I didnt not. 1600x900 was great! Personally for me if I had a choose between a 4090 and a 4060. I'd have to think long and hard about it because in the end they are both just GPU's. Meaning a 4090 is not better than a 4060 and a 4060 is not better than a 4090.@@George_McLovin

And here's a small tip for those of you looking to buy a used GPU. Most of you already know this, but always check seller reputation and history prior to making any purchases. If something is priced too well, it just might be too good to be true.
That depends, just know who your buying from. Get an idea of what kind of person is selling the item.
Yep, as an experienced eBay user I can tell you almost 100% of the time if the price is too good it's likely a scam. Half the time the seller is just hoping they will wait you out until you are outside eBay's buyer protection or they ship an empty envelope to a different address on your street, which eBay technically counts as delivered. You then have to go to the post office to get proof that the package was sent to the wrong address and file a police report. It's a huge hassle and so many people get scammed because they don't know how to deal with it.

The important thing is inflation. A $399 card is actually a $329 card back when 30 series came out, so think about the 4060 ti as the “true” replacement for the 3060.
$499 is $588 now
$299 was $250 in 2019
Except it`s a 3050TI replacement
@@walter1824 i thought its more of a 3060 replacement as the 3050 shouldn't exist
I think its important to also discuss software. Raw performance is better yes, but frame generation/DLSS 3 is also a very important aspect going forward with future releases that will support it. I have a 4070 and turning frame gen on is like you just waved a wand at your pc screen and suddenly you have nearly double your frame rate, and it looks and feels great. And also, you cant ignore that power efficiency. Both are great deals in my opinion! but the 4060 has my money if your plan is to play new games for the next few years. If you want to play older games (not released in 2022/2023 and forward) or esports games then absolutely go for the 3070.
If you have to wait™️ for the RTX 4060 to be better than the RTX 3070 (or all the other better GPUs at similar pricing) for a feature that only works best for slower paced, single player, CPU-limited games in which latency is not a concern, I'd consider that a mediocre deal. The power efficiency advantage also only matters in small PC case builds and not so much electricity bills for most of the world.
If you're buying used cards for the value, then you'd probably wait 2 years for DLSS 3 to become way MORE common, and at that time buy a used 4070/4080.
@@GeekProdigyGuy A very good argument!
@@GeekProdigyGuy Pretty much. Just as ray tracing only started becoming usable with Ampere, not Turing; frame gen will only be adequate (high base framerate, clean image quality, tolerable latency) *after* Ada Lovelace.
@@vncube1 if your #1 concern is $ and you live in an area with expensive power it could definitely be a factor to consider. the difference between say $15/year and $30/year seems pretty substantial if you're buying a $300 GPU. agreed it only matters in places with expensive power and for users who are more price-focused than performance focused. more cost over time is probably worth a 30% fps boost for most people, esp. if it pushes slightly more modern games to consistent >60fps given almost all budget monitors are 60Hz.
i went with 2x 3060 12gb instead of one 4060, can now play my games with reasonable graphics and also can use the second one for stable diffusion/Local LLM
im still running a 2080 ti, no complaints 🤷♂️
I needed this video
Oh man I can't wait for the rtx 5060 to come out and be equal to the 3070! So hype!
The 30 cards with DDR6 has severe temperature issues when overclocking, as the DDR6 overheats quickly. Has that not at all been fixed in the 40-series?
Was literally about to buy the 4060
Nvidia want you to pretend the previous gen doesn't exist...
I distinctly remember their RTX 4000 reveal video being the exact opposite. Instead of talking about RTX 4000 mid-range options, Jensen just said something along the lines of "For the rest of you plebs there's still the RTX 3000 series you can buy!"
I recently picked up a RX 6700 XT for $225 and I believe if you don't have an unlimited budget like most people then get 1-2 generation behind the current one saves you money. if you build the exact computer I have new you would spend $870 (pre tax) I5 12400f, 32gb SP Ram, RX 6700 XT 1tb SN570, B760M DS3H, Thermalright Assassin SE, SuperNOVA 750 GT, inside the Bitfenix Novamesh M, I had gotten the RAM as a bday present and I found the PSU on B-Stock when it was good so I only about $680 came out of my pocket you could also get a lower watt PSU but for a B or A tier PSU 650w PSU's really aren't worth it when 750w PSU's are $10-$20 more and you would be putting quite a bit of money into PSU's with how much they have gotten.
I really enjoy your fan reviews, would you consider testing the Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12 Pro (revised from the Toughfan 12) as well as the Corsair AF120 Elite?
That’s cool but I’m NOT buying from e-bay 💀
It would make more sense if the 4060 was renamed to the 4050
legit, the best public service announcement i ever heard of this year. thanks m8!
Have you tried overclocking one?? its actually crazy how much could be made up with the 16GB version of it
RTX 4060 should be $200.
Because Nvidia gimp the GPU at all the angles they could.

nothing beats a used 6800 xt in value right now
@@Wobbothe3rd A 6800xt is faster than a 4070 in quite a few games, but on average the 4070 is about 7% faster. You can get a 6800xt for 500$ right now and have 16gb of vram so you can keep playing games in 1440p for more than a year.
I bought a 5700 for 150 a year ago and flashed a 5700xt bios onto it and i get 200+fps in apex at 1080p
I'd be interested in seeing a super 'green' low power draw build that can still run things at good settings/frames
300 for a 4060 isnt wild at all.........
one little problem , it really depends on region , in china not so much caz mining cards are just all over the place , just not a really good idea to get a 3070, there are NO warranty
I must be missing something but when I play I just want most of the big ticket settings maxed out and for nothing to skip frames. I can't tell any difference in games over 40fps. Anything over a 2000 series is wasted on me and I would like to think I'd be part of the majority.
I'm just hoping whatever I decide to get will be good enough to run and record MH Wilds at high or max graphics when it comes out! Game is supposedly being designed for ps5 specs (or so I've heard)
I've been able to pick up 2 of those Asus 3070's that came factory with an EK block for just over $200 each on fleebay!!! Both work great!
The Microcenter near me has an ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT Challenger Pro Overclocked Triple Fan 12 GB GDDR6 at $35 off, for 359.99, new off the shelf.
Upgraded my 1070ti to the 3070 the other week, it's been great. It's almost in mint condition with the original reciept and I was still able to register for the 36 month asus warranty (still have more than half left), it has only been used for gaming on the weekends but the owner wanted to upgrade to 4k so they sold it on ebay for a really good price :D
Also as somebody who had owned a 4k and 1440p monitor for like 7 years and a 1070 and 1070ti and now 3070 the entire time, it was enough for 1440p gaming, but I never tried the super new games. It would struggle at 4k a lot, which was annoying because my main monitor was 4k and the pixel layout made the games look OK but really off at the same time, using the 1440p monitor looked better than 1440p on 4k but it still looked worse than native 4k. Luckily my 3070 can now handle 4k on most games that I play :D
Yeah, I think I’ll humble myself and use my rtx 3070 Ti (FE) for a few more years.
I got it around last year, and I’m planning to continue using it all through college.
Yes i do care about peformance per watt, considering hp only puts 350 watt psus in the victus 15l and stock it comes with a 6400,and electricity is pretty expensive during the summer months
i bought and just installed yesterday a Radeon Sapphire 7900xtx pulse. I'm hoping this lasts me years because its the first time ive ever purchased a single component for £850ish.
Just looking at a mini led monitor and a new keyboard and i should be set for years
I’ve been rocking my current GPU for nearly 7 years, and I want my next one to also last that long. So I’m hesitant about getting a card that was worked constantly, possibly overclocked, to mine crypto
My very outdated setup has a 1050 with only 2gb of Vram and its not cutting it anymore.
Been looking for a new card and everyones tells you something different.
Buying a 3070s now!
Great video
So the 20 series was a feature launch, ray tracing/DLSS. 30 series was a refinement of this. 40 series again is a feature launch, frame gen. 50 series will be a refinement hopefully unless they figure out texture upscale on DLSS.
If you are upgrading an old dell pc with a 300w psu. A 4060 might be a good choice if you also want new
For sure, recently I ended up with a similar situation between a 4070 and a 3080, had to run some benchmarks a lot of times thinking that I was doing something wrong till i realised the 3080 is actually better rawperformance than the 4070...
i also had same decision recently, but between 4060 and 3070, but decided to go with 4060, because it was like 20% cheaper
Raw power wise not much changed between the 30 and 40 series except for efficienty
Hello optimum, can you make an input lag and optimization kind of a video. I really need it cause i cant seem to match the results of your game tests with the i5 13600k. I am having major problems and knowing what u do with your pc in those regions would help massively. Ty ❤
