I was lucky enough to pick up one of these from the local rag in 2004 for £1100. Sold it a month later for £3200. While they aren't the pinnacle of performance now they are still special in the way that a hand built car should be.
love this version e34 almost no problems i had about 10 of them i worked in a BMW dealer we had only small problems my 525 did 340.000 on a Waterpump engine never used any oil i sold it and changed to a 24v no vanos it did 250 kmt i loved this car
The M5 electronic dashboard a.k.a. instrument cluster doesn't have problem with the pixels ... Every e34 equipped with "self check" doesn't have this problem !!!

The E34 M5's S38B36 engine in reality is a 3,56 litre engine, not 3,60 litre, so some countries say that it's a 3.5 litre. Same goes with the S38B38. It's advertised as a 3,8 litre, while it really is a 3,85 litre. Because of this, in Japan for excample, the 3.8 litre version is known as a 3.9 litre.
@lewis72 of course it is! this is an amazing car and still puts alot of modern cars to shame! the 3.8 version develops 340bhp and will do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds un restricted there also capable of 180mph rather than 155mph

In fact, all the E34s had this issue, and it's occurred in my car twice in the time I have owned it. Not just the circuit board, though, check the connections. I made the mistake of replacing the board with a rebuilt board, and it actually solved little of my problems the second time, because I just had loose/bad connections elsewhere.

if the most important thing to check from the whole car is the state of digital dash than you can go terribly wrong buying an m5 :) anyway, my dreamcar :drool:
@bugsy791 e34's have never used vanos only on the 525 it was used and like bugsy791 says they never made an e34 528 well not for the uk market maybe in some countrys but i can asure you that car is a genuine e34 m5 a true enthusiast would no what they are looking at i own a e34 m5 3.8 and its a fantastic car you shouldnt judge a book by the cover.....

In most respects the E39 M5 was much better than the E34. It had another 85bhp for starters (over the 3.5). This one is stunningly good value though but IMO the E34 M5 looks like a 525i that's been to Halfords.

Well BMWs definitely do not age well. Also, you brother picked two of the most advanced (electronically) luxury sedans on the market. Of course there are going to be issues.
