I've found that using google maps street view is a great way to gather reference for this process when you want to capture the look of an area that is not really accessible for you. Thanks for your video.
Your advice has helped me so much. I was frustrated trying to find a video with ideas and tools that I as a semi-beginner could understand. This was perfect! Thank you.
There's also the option of drawing over Google streetview for IRL locations that you don't have immediate access to, though turning those into finished images is a more involved process, given you have to take into account how the technology they use to create the impression of a panoramic view distorts the image into unrealistic perspective and also you have to edit more to not have Google's legal team come after you.
You deserve all praise. I've been trying to avoid this process. And after this video I was like... "Well... What the hell?! Why do I have to avoid this? It's MY work". (I felt like "cheating" when using photo references)
I also used to think it's cheating. But now I view the comic/manga as the most important thing. So if reference benefits our storytelling we should use it.
Manben is such a great series! I cannot recommend it enough. I vote for both types of videos. Your trip to Japan was a great watch! I just bought another sketchbook to do something similar...to capture those moments I often take for granted around my city. Thanks again for another great video! 🙌
Yes! I recently found an episode on NHK world. Maybe they have the other episodes there too. That's awesome. There's something special about a sketchbook that you fill in while visiting different places. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun :)
Dailymotion has a few of the older Manben episodes, and a few of the newer ones (Manben Neo). A user uploaded on YT awhile back but I dont find that the subtitles are as good compared to Dailymotion. I think a video comparing the current styles of manga/comics would be interesting. Manga has definitely overtaken standard American comics (Marvel/DC) in popularity in recent years, and I can only assume that is the same in Europe. However, beyond 2000 AD and Humanoids (publishers) I cannot think of current European comics that are trying to compete. Could be interesting? Or comparing stylistic differences like pacing? Either way, I'll have to set a reminder for monthly KoFi support! Thanks again 🤙
@@othermike @Mike yes, luckily on Dailymotion you can still find the episode. At least for now xD guess in the end it's probably still illegal. But that's the problem with lots of Japanese programs. There are impossible to watch legally outside of Japan. That kind of video would definitely be interesting. But I would need to do a lot of research as it's almost a whole documentary xD I definitely want to talk more about the German market. Thank you for you support. I really appreciate it!
I like both, the vlog and the tutorial. Seeing the quiteness of HH in the morning was beautiful. Keep doing them, so when I miss home, I can watch your videos. 🥰
@@MsMenja Hey! Dafür braucht man keinen Tutorial. Es ist ganz simpel. Man muss nur die Shift Taste drücken, dann kannst du von dem angesetzten Punkt aus eine Linie ziehen. Also einen Punkt zeichnen und dann Shift drücken.
I really enjoyed the mixed vlog / tutorial style! Only thing off putting was the sometimes shaky camera (i.e. 1:00-1:30, outro). Found it a bit disorientating and made it harder to follow the video. Bests :)
Yes, i didnt realize my camera did that (it didn't show up on the screen like that). I'll see what I can change about the settings to avoid that in the future. My equipment is pretty basic as I cannot afford anything better 😅
@@olschis_art No worries about the equipment. If your camera doesn't offer built in stabilization you should be able to fix that in video editing as well. Video stabilization should reduce the shakiness of the filmed clips by a lot. In premiere the effect is called warp stabilizer.
@@fabianunt i Think i tried it with Davinci Resolve once but i cannot remember what the results were. Some programs make it look really weird when you stabilize the picture.

Ja, kannst ja vllt mit einem einfachen Bild anfangen 😊 Das ist ein Mikrofon ja. Ich hätte es zwar an dem Tag nicht gebraucht aber ich bin immer zu faul, um es abzumachen xD

As I said in the video, there are ways of turning photos into manga backgrounds with just one klick. But in my opinion those do not look good and you can see it was a photo originally. There are just no easy ways to create good quality manga backgrounds. Even if artists use things like 3d backgrounds, usually they have to apply different effects and filters to make the backgrounds look good. Not really sure what you expected from the tutorial.

You can also just use a lightbox. Also dont draw fully horizontally! It will destroy your back in the long run

I'm glad the video was helpful ^^ It's not always easy to find the right techniques when you teach yourself how to draw.

how to turn a pen into a straight line tool? kinda saw you do that
Put a dot where you want the line to start and then simply push the shift button. Then you can draw a straight line :)

Clip Studio Paint
