The Knuckles show is finally here and boy do I hate it. I’m going to complain about it for almost an hour.
HUGE shoutout to @ChannelPup for editing and Stevie Cole for the thumbnail and helping me get this up online
The most important lesson here is this: Stop trying to use Holding Out for a Hero. No matter how hard you try you will never top its use in Shrek 2
Wasn’t a fan of its use in the Mario movie
Fr
Every use since has honestly just been embarrassing.
Saints Row: The Third used it pretty well.
No one will top Jennifer Saunders performance, and no one will tell me otherwise! 😤
(Fr tho, Shrek 2 was such a masterful sequel.)
oh boy! i finally get to hear nicks full thoughts on the knuckles show!
(looks at runtime)
*oh no, i get to hear nick’s full thoughts on the knuckles show*
That was my exact thought process.
what has science done?!?
Damn...
Peridot...Steven Universe...my beloved...
I ALWAYS get excited seeing a long run time on this channel 😂
This show would've been better if it'd made two changes:
1: introduce Rouge and change Knuckles motivation for going with Wade to hunt down a thief who stole the Master Emerald.
2: Make the Buyer into the movie's incarnation of Snively.
@@Exidel I’ll do you one better. Make the Buyer and the two bumbling agents the movie’s incarnation of Team Hooligan. The Buyer can be a version of Fang the Sniper and the agents can be human versions of Bark and Bean
@@Butwhythough881 why would we want human version of those character instead of the actual characters?
or maybe they could be GUN agents trying to get the msater emerald
I was hoping for the Buyer to be a new character, or maybe the movie version of Eggman Nega or Snively or something.... but.. he didn't even get a name...
To make myself feel better, I headcanon that the buyer's real name is Dimitri. If they'd have called him that, it would at least have linked him to a previous nemesis of Knuckles, no matter how tenuous the connection.
The show so bad, he became Scourge Man.
I may or may not take inspiration from this
Nick Game Apologist, I got a story to tell you about my mom’s experience with this dreaded show. My mom is at best a casual fan of Sonic, she barely gets into the games or other media as much as I do, but she always appreciated the show. When she watched the “Knuckles” show she sorta enjoyed it… Until episode 4 came in with that bizarre musical number and she quit the show immediately, not because she “barely” understood the lore of Sonic, but the fact that there’s a huge lack of Knux in the DAMN SHOW! When she did came back around to finish all of the episodes, she even hated the other episodes even more because of the boring bowling arc. She legit told me that this show barely feels like a Sonic show at all. To all those who claimed that this is supposed to be for people like my mom who casually enjoys the show or isn’t into the series, this is possibly one of the biggest examples I can give you here. If my mom couldn’t get into and wanted MORE of the SONIC characters in a SONIC show, then what does that tell you? BTW, she also enjoyed the first 2 Sonic movies as well, humans and all, but the difference is that at least those movies actually have the decency to SHOW the Sonic characters and have their time in the spotlight unlike the “Knuckles” show.
"She legit told me that this show barely feels like a Sonic show at all."
That's the problem with "character in the real world stories" the storylines become about the freakin' human characters no one cares about. It's why I hate Sonic X.
@quesocoatl21 Sonic X and the movies are the only Sonic media that actively humies be in the main hero cast rather than be villains or background or one-offs or extensions of a furry character.
Sonic X at least had the sonic characters be more involved
Nick calling him “Kid Coodi” is killing me 😂😂😂
I was just gonna comment the same thing! I turned my head when I heard that hahaha 😆 🤣 😂
I really gotta listen to more music.
is it kid cuddy instead?

They should have, then Sonic fans would have to face up to how bad it is, you can trash Knux people weirdly accept it, Shadow however is a national treasure

@@Frank-zb7zh you would get a show with Shadow existing in the background of a story centered around Rachel's husband, his love life drama and his trauma with golf.
@Frank-zb7zh you would get a butchered version of Shadow in a show lined with bad jokes & poor writing that probably would change his entire backstory to make it "better" for a wider audience

The worse thing about this show was Wanda. Like my god she was absolutely annoying and unlikable. And it sucks cause there was a chance to do a cool contrast in which Wade is the goofball smalltown cop whweras Wanda is an actual FBI agent who's competent. But instead she's just a worse and more unfunny version of Wade
FACTS
wade was fine
I kinda questioned if she even was an FBI agent to begin with.
The fact they could actually make a character worse than Wade is actually both surprising and impressive. But not in a good way.
On the other hand, how many times have we had to suffer the tired old trope of "useless dude getting browbeat by superior female version of him for 'comedy' ? I'd rather they not just have the Wanda character at all and contrast Wade with, i dunno *KNUCKLES?*
Honestly, Wanda Whipple is a walking talking physical representation of why women in modern entertainment suck. Ever since the mid to late 2010's to right now, we have been getting women who are arrogant, b!tchy, know it alls who think/believe they're better and tougher than men by doing everything they can (but failing in the process) while also constantly putting them down as they make fun of the many hobbies men like just to look superior or cooler or a queen.
Imagine if Sonic 3 comes out and instead of Rouge and Amy we get weird quirky human OCs instead
Wade will deliver Amy's "Give humanity a chance" speech to Shadow in Movie 3, triggering his real memory of Maria. Mark my words.
they make rouge a human girl in a bat costume and call her batgirl
@@DarkkirbyKRPG So Chris Thorndike all over again
I think it’s wraps for Amy and rouge
it’s definitely just gonna be the main 4
I would have a breakdown
That one Knuckles focused episode of Sonic X where he got the shovel claws was a hundred times better than anything the knuckles show had to offer
Even in the Sonic X episodes based on the Adventure games, where he has to share screen time with a dozen other characters, it’s still a better Knuckles story than this show.
That episode was honestly what gave me hope for this show after learning that Wade would be involved.
I had that ep on DVD and watched it so many times 😂 I kinda miss huck now lol
EXCELLENT WORK. GAME APOLOGIST KNUCKLES SHOW 😊😊😊😊😊
If we get a Shadow spin off like Knuckles, Ill be INSANELY mad. Especially if they attempt to make it based off that cutscene in SA2 when Shadow said maybe he’ll find his own answers if he came down to Earth.
The Shadow spinoff show will actually be about that GUN agent and his love drama with Rachel.
Your statement about “How are you going to feel when this happens to Shadow?” made me realize stark contrast I’ve noticed between Sonic fans who like and don’t like the show. The only people who don’t like it are fans whose favorite Sonic character is Knuckles. The only Sonic fans who do like the show are fans whose favorite character is literally anyone but Knuckles. I have a feeling that when Shadow does inevitably get his own entry in the movie series where he gets sidelined for a random human, all of the Knuckles fans are going to be like, “YEAH, NOT SO FUNNY WHEN IT HAPPENS TO *YOUR* FAVORITE SONIC CHARACTER, IS IT?!”
I'll just be like: "Yeah, it is pretty funny and I am having fun, not everything is Citizen Kane", just like I did for the Knuckles show.
I’m a Shadow fan and I would like it, if they treat shadow like they treat knuckles in this series. That would mean that I would get a decently written shadow in a decently received show.
Your comment deserves more likes because that’s exactly what it is for many people.
The minute Shadow gets his own spinoff show only for it to be 95% about Maddy’s mid-life identity crisis and 5% Shadow is when the people who’ve been calling us Knuckles fans ungrateful are going to be rightfully exposed for the outraged hypocrites they really are.
I’ve already seen the Amy fans getting their pitch forks ready if she doesn’t appear in Sonic movie 3. I’ve even seen one hardcore Amy fan TH-camr calling for a mass boycott if she doesn’t make it in, and in the same breath throw shade toward Shadow fans who personally don’t mind her possible non-inclusion; specifically the guy who uses the A.I. thumbnails. You can’t make this stuff up.
I get that fans are going to be disappointed but I wish they’d stop projecting their feeling onto other fans who happen to favor a different character, because *that’s* no good.
@Frank-zb7zh The critics also praised the Star Wars Sequels?
Bro you are making shit up.
I don't give a quarter as much of a fuck about Knuckles as some others do but I sure as shit ain't blind to this shows problems just because I like other characters more, and I seriously doubt many of the people I've seen criticize the show consider Knuckles to be their defacto favorite.
I’m digging the whole “Scourge Man” fit you’ve got going on right now, not gonna lie.
I don't hate the human shenanigans in the Sonic movies and Knuckles show, but they really did lean way too much into that specific aspect for the latter. I just hope the third Sonic movie is like the first two movies and not like the Knuckles show.
Do you want huge swathes of the Shadow movie to not be about the humans, or do you want it to be like the first two movies??
I hope it’s better than the first movie, that’s the only part of this series I liked and it still could’ve done better
Maybe paramount shouldn't have hired people that know nothing about the sonic franchise to work on a show about a popular character that they marketed the hell out of. That's like hiring a bunch a people who know nothing about star wars to make more movies and shows about the series and look how well that's doing for disney, their stocks are down and the newest show is crap, especially since it's made by the personal assistant of Harvey Wienstein.
The Knuckles show is everything I was worried the Sonic 1 movie was going to be... a Movie about this bumbling sheriff where occasionally Sonic shows up to remind you he exists.
@@AutZentusFax.
I'm afraid for Shadow when he inevitably gets his own spinoff movie and TV show if this is anything to go by
The gun commander show
The Shadow spinoff will actually be Rachel's husband spinoff about his love drama, and that also might feature some black hedgehog in the background cheering for him.
@RetroMagnus761 They're just trying to make their answer to the MCU/DCEU but with furries.
The thing about Wade is that while I don't hate the guy, I liked him in the first two movies. It's the fact that he was in small doses that made him funny, making him mostly the main character in the show is what ruined him and the show.
There are more things that ruined the show but I'm not gonna ramble about it, I just wanna forget it and move on
both the 06 fans can now rest easy knowing it had more Knuckles than Knuckles
Well I'm here. Where's the other one?
I haven’t watched the show, I’ll admit that. But it seems very much like this show was exactly what everyone was worried the film _would_ be; a vehicle for actors on hard times or not enough star power to dink around and occasionally have a popular franchise IP pop up and wave their hands at the kids, only to faff off once their glorified cameo was done.
The biggest issue I have with sonic fans snuffing out criticism and even harassing others for not enjoying the show is that with Paramount also planning on a Shadow spin-off, fans that obsessively defend the show and snuff out criticism are potentially sending the message of “please do this with every Sonic spinoff” to Paramount. Should Paramount possibly listen to these fans and not listen to the criticism being provided, Shadow’s show will most likely repeat the issues with Knuckles. And with Shadow being arguably a even bigger fan favorite than Knuckles, I doubt fans will be forgiving of the show’s potential shortcomings.
You are telling the truth.
As someone who loved Sonic 1 and 2 and hated this series, i agree that people need to let Paramount understand that we no longer want something like this with any other project.
To be honest, I don't even think we should have series anymore, the comics prequels were shorter and better
I wouldn't worry much about that, given the show's scores and whole negativity around it that simply overshadows any attempt at defending it
people are harassed for liking knuckles too
What if people genuinely like this direction for the Knuckles show and want to see more projects like it. Who is anyone to tell them that they are wrong for liking it and wanting more??
Arlo tried to speak his opinions on both Sonic movies because he felt they didn’t represent Sonic at all but he was told a hardy “shut the hell up” from Sonic Movie fans for even suggesting that these movies didn’t feel like the games.
Now it seems the Arlo situation is happening to critics of the Knuckles show but, just like with Sonic 2, what makes the opinions of people who really like this show invalid? I do think this show and this discourse is something Sonic Movie fans kind of fashioned themselves.
@@outtatehinkwellcartoons5876 I dunno, but expecting Knuckles to be a core central character in a series named "Knuckles" is pretty valid.
Ngl making a show for "Knuckles" AND NOT PUT HIM IN IT (Somewhat) is a waste of time AND MONEY, Knuckles is one of my favorite of Sonic characters, and it's annoying tbh
Well, you gotta remember that CGI is really costly, and I think they were trying to save as much of a budget as possible, considering we still have the upcoming Sonic Movie 3 later this year featuring Shadow the Hedgehog.
But if the show did focus on the CGI characters the whole time, or just added too many of them, and there goes most of the money they had.
@@boltthelunarian1405Yet they had the budget for Idris Elba, Christopher Lloyd, Cary Elwes, Kid Cudi, and Michael Bolton no sweat? I call total BS. This is Paramount. One of the biggest studios in Hollywood. If they didn’t have the budget to feature Knuckles prominently in his own show and were “saving money” for Sonic 3, then why waste money on a Knuckles show to begin with? Why not just put that money then towards Sonic 3? How about they use what budget they have on the character people do care about and are gonna be watching the show for instead using it to have Michael Bolton in ONE EPISODE!? This logic is so flawed.

Honestly the worst excuse I’ve heard for this show so far about the lack of character (also the same excuse that people use about Sonic 3 if Amy or Rouge will not be in it) is "well they can’t put that much character because it cost a lot/think about the budget"
First of all that mean they have the budget to put a lot of A or B list actor in pointless/unfunny human role that have nothing to do with Sonic, but they don’t have said budget for the actual Sonic thing …. Okay ?
And second of all…..IT’S PARAMOUNT, I’m certainly sure that one of the the biggest company in Hollywood certainly have enough money to render, animated, put in the story, and pay the voice actor (if they actually do it lol) for character that fan AND casual audiences want to see
It baffle me that people (and mostly on Twitter) prefer find excuse for the lack of Sonic content IN Sonic related stuff than POINTING the lack of Sonic content IN Sonic related stuff.

The “Sonic Drone Home” short is literally what these adaptations should’ve been from the JUMP.
Fully CG with sonic and friends carrying the narrative the whole way, through no humans necessary.
The first movie was made on an $85-$95 million budget + $5 million on sonic’s makeover, but now its too “costly” to animate knuckles???? Please these writers simply don’t care abt this series
It's not that they couldn't afford it, it's that they didn't wanna give out the money. Very important distinction.
Drone Home's writing was ass though, no idea why they wrote it like a bad episode of Sonic Boom when the movies have a completely different vibe. If they fixed that and just made a few shorts of the same length starring Team Sonic interacting with the human world, I would have much preferred that over the Knuckles show.
@@rainpooper7088 I'd consider the ones where the humor solely consists of references to be the ass one, personally.
@@rainpooper7088 I disagree though. The Drone Home short was pretty good and the writing was relatively on point, showing a lot of potential from what the future of Sonic movies can be.

@Peasham They just aren't trying to make actual Sonic movies. Note the lack of Eggman being a tycoon building factories and making oceans of oil with Sonic being a lone wanderer foiling him and his dream to make the world into Epcot.

I think it is funny how things went. People like the movies in spite of the massive hollywoodian effort to make it the same "animated mascot now in 3d goes through a portal to the real world" thing they absolutely littered the early 2000s with, because you know, it's the most consistent critique the movies got; and the thing they got from it was not "wow people love Sonic" was "wow people love the human characters we made to be around Sonic"
I mean yeah, that's because people genuinely critiquing the movies are few and far between, I know I'd always get shouted down whenever I brought up the movies' massive problems, but if I bring those exact same negatives in the context of the Knuckles show, suddenly the criticism is valid.

Ayo paramount start that RETCON real quick man. This show looked like trash!
i've always hated the "others have it worse/could be worse" mentality in general, it just feels like a cheep way to guilt trip and emotionally manipulate people into complacency, and whenever people say it to me irl i want to slap them across the face and then if they say anything back repeat their words back to them
This show was just another example of a massive issue that’s been plaguing Hollywood this past decade, Hollywood is too risk averse and profit fixated to greenlight original stories anymore so screenwriters have been mashing their rejected original stories (which are almost always some thinly veiled autobiography full of self indulgent gen-x comedy) with a preexisting franchise just to get it greenlighted. Unfortunately, it works and Hollywood agrees to it every damn time!
The franchises being used very rarely hold any personal meaning to the screenwriters, consequently, they don’t treat these franchises as anything other than an afterthought begrudgingly included in the story solely because they’re contractually obligated to.
I’d bet money on the likelihood the opening with the hand drawn art on the CDs is a one-for-one depiction of the original logline pitch that got the show greenlit. Of course, the writer knowingly deviated from in order to give more focus to the “original story” the writer ALWAYS wanted to tell far more than any actual sincere addition to a beloved franchise.
I’d say a contributing factor that enables screenwriters to get away with this is Hollywood’s baffling fixation on making “everyone” the target audience, thusly allowing shows/movies to be this carelessly unfocused compares to something that tries to target a specific, defined audience. It’s genuine bizarre when compared to the novel publishing industry, saying “everyone” is your audience is a death sentence for a book proposal, narrow specificity in target audience is a massive component to how they judge the likely success of an original story, saying it’s for everyone is seen as an admission of not having cared enough to make sure it appeals to anyone at all.
Novels have been selling exceptionally well so Hollywood is doing itself now favours by producing these “for everyone” trash heaps.
Regardless, the biggest aspect that leaves me so scorned about these lazy franchise movies is that absolutely ANY Knuckles fan, even one without any understanding of storytelling structure or character arcs, would’ve created something amazing if given the opportunity to write a Knuckles tv series, yet the ONLY people who get that opportunity are pre-exisiting Hollywood insiders with no interest in respecting beloved characters OR the audiences/fans of those characters, they’ve been spoon fed established characters/stories that’d make an amazing adaptation stupendously easy but simply choose to ignore all of it because there’s a derivative and trashy “underdog Everyman” comedy they want to focus on instead.
It's ego boosting for them, they love doing bait and switches like this because they know it's the only way a large amount of people will see the story/characters they've warped and claimed as part of their own original work. The critics will give it praise because they have money invested in it doing well, so they give it high scores hoping to dupe people into believing them.

Maan You Wrote a Whole Bookreport! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I agree though with your written statement lol.
@Sanakudou TLDR writers and others in staff with their issues just used Knuckles' show to show off those issues.
The one thing I gained from all this is a curiosity about Knuckles' ears.
He's basically the only character without easily visible ones and I never realized.
He doesn't have them because echidnas are so close to reptiles on the ancestry tree that they just don't have earlobes yet, their ears are simply holes in their heads that are covered by spines. Their hearing is pretty good in spite of that, they say echidnas can hear ants walking around underground.
@@rainpooper7088 Was thinking it might be something like that with the ears, but wasn't sure...what with the cartoony design and all.
Neat echidna fact about their hearing though! Thanks for that.
Ngl Nick, I'm not the biggest Knuckles fan and never have been, but I felt pretty much the same way about all of this, and I have had zero interest in pretending otherwise. I've never seen you this agitated since I don't follow you on social media (probably for the best) but that I gotta hope that rant was as cathartic for you as it was for me.
SEGA taught me the hard way not to get too emotionally invested in ANYTHING to come out of this franchise quite some time ago, but to quote one of your older videos "Critique is *so* important. When [something] sucks, you need to say it sucks. If that bothers you, you're gonna have to deal with it. But if you don't agree with it, it doesn't hurt to challenge that point of view."
So while I didn't get my hopes up for Knuckles+ despite generally enjoying both movies, and I can understand how and why there are fans who can enjoy it in spite of or even because of what it is -- that doesn't mean I despise the cynical embarrassment that it ended up being, any less.
This entire ordeal felt like everything the abomination of human-teeth Sonic represented to the wider audience back in the day. Cynical, below the bare minimum, bloated and tired. It felt like yet another dying breath of Hollywood's paint-by-numbers mediocrity slop designed to cash-in on a big name. And regardless of what the Twitter discourse might say to you or about you, I don't think you're wrong for saying as much. Again I'll reference your S3K video, and remind you, if you need it, of how that game, and this franchise, taught you what it was to have standards. So internalize that, and don't forget it. *You are not entitled for wanting stories to be art.*
P.S.
I hope your personal life changes for the better, sooner rather than later. Sorry to hear you've been going through hard times.

It's a real shame that they have forgotten how great Knuckles can be when he's not flanderized as some cave-tard. Sure, he's hotheaded and reckless, but he's intelligent enough on his own, not some dummy the rest of his clan told to guard a random gem so they could get rid of him. He's not some brute, he's a noble warrior tasked with guarding unlimited power without claiming it for himself, a duty he has kept to in spite of everything. Portraying him without that characteristic nobility and incorruptibility on top of his naivety and innocence I feel misses the appeal of the character.
One great scene they cut from the western dubs of Sonic X (for reasons I don't understand) was when he was contacted and told he had to stop Shadow from going on a rampage and immediately went to intercept Shadow without making a fuss about it, breaking the walls and directly going into Shadow's path asap. In this narrow hallway, Shadow is forced to fight Knuckles where the echidna's unrivaled physical strength and resilience to damage is allowed to shine. Sure, Shadow defeats Knuckles, but we then see the former pick up his inhibitor rings and put them back on, before showing a great deal of exhaustion. As we know, Shadow is a formidable fighter, so the fact that he felt the need to remove them for this brief battle shows how even the 'Ultimate Lifeform' is aware of and respects the sheer might of Knuckles.
I am getting more and more worried about the third movie not just because of the show but because of all the information we’re getting like the possible lack of Amy and Rouge, the fact the composer would rather use generic ai than music from the games, and the fact they’re making more non-game human characters, it feels like they want to only showcase the characters people like and ignore everyone else even the fan favorites cause they aren’t loved by a lot of casuals. I’m still cautiously optimistic but if the third movie isn’t good or even fun, I think I will be done with this part of the franchise. Hopefully like the games, the third one can be their magnus opus. Toot toot Knuckles Warrior!
There’s also the fact that the “professional” critics praised the hell out of the Knuckles show and ate that shit up which shows to Paramount that they don’t actually have to try to make an actual good Sonic adaptation as long as stupid “funny” human shenanigans are involved, critics will just clap like seals.
..Do we even WANT censored Rouge?
I don't know where this AI story comes out but if you talk about the fake leak on one of the music from the film, it was confirmed that it was fake.
The film will also use live and learn, the main music from SA2 .
There is no confirmation if Amy or Rouge will not be in the film, they very well could be.
Maria and Gerald are in the movie, two humans characters important for Shadow
As for non-games humans, i don't think I've seen any new ones besides Agent Rockwell
@@Pan-cackes well, about the AI part, I can worry myself less. But I DO hope Rouge is in the third movie. Amy is probably not going to appear, although Rouge should be an important character in it.
Of course, I'll still keep my hopes low...
@DaltonLunday2103 They won't have Rouge or Amy.
To give at least a LITTLE credit for the Doc Brown casting, he also currently voices the big bad (or former big bad) of the Kingdom Hearts series, and while you can definitely hear the Doc in him, he's capable of playing a serious, no nonsense character.
Of course, that's not what Pac-man-attack is. So... man.
Pachacamac in the Knuckles show is literally the exact opposite of a serious, no nonsense character.
@@Rediscool9110% correct, I just moreso mean I think Doc could have been a great cast for him had he been... not what he is lol
I'll admit, Doc Brown as Pachacamac is pretty good casting.
@DarkAura19 He's just an OC with a canon character's look. Same for the Movie Sonic.
How long are some people going to act oblivious, as to why fans disliked the show? It was advertised as a knuckles show, first and foremost. Nobody expected wade to be the star. If it was advertised as wade & knuckles, then we all would've known what to expect.
The show didn't need to be like the video games one to one. I'm sick of hearing that brain dead straw man, from people that have an issue with fans disliking the show. I'm pretty sure fans weren't expecting the show to perfectly adapt the games. They just expected what was supposedly promised to them. I guess it's wrong to expect what's being advertised, right in front of your face😂I only watched the knuckles scenes on TH-cam. That's how I experienced the show😉
Man, I hope that by the time movie 3 comes out, the paramount sonic universe finally fully embraces the spirit of the games. Why not? what does paramount have to lose, when the super mario bros movie did that, and succeeded? I'm not interested in unfunny human characters, taking up shadows screen time either. But, at this point? I'd prepare myself for it. Solid vid nick👍
Literally look at the description of the show or the trailers. Wade is mention or show on them. There literally never misinformed what the show was about.
@@Frank-zb7zh Dude....brother....listen to yourself, and read what I'm saying here. Please. Wade...was not...ADVERTISED AS THE MAIN STAR OF THE SHOW. KNUCKLES WAS. NOT WADE. Okay? re-watch the trailers. The best knuckles scenes were the main focus of them. Not wades. Even in the descriptions you mentioned, knuckles is spoken of like he's the protagonist, and that wade is just along for the ride. And yet, it's actually the other way around when you see the show. Idris aba tweeted about knuckles having "main character energy"😂when the show came out, knuckles got sidelined several times, in what was supposed to be his show. If the show was advertised as wade & knuckles, people like me wouldn't have minded as much. And no, we didn't get what was advertised. Stop deluding yourself into believing that nonsense. It's called false advertising. Companies do it all the time, to get your money. Which is what paramount did, and it worked.

@@Frank-zb7zhit is the KNUCKLES show, I expect KNUCKLES to be in more than one fourth of the series
@@Thatman615So… it’s just like the movies then?
@@Frank-zb7zh Of course it is. Which is my overall issue with the paramount sonic cinematic universe. This side of the franchise, is afraid to fully embrace the spirit of the games. Hope that changes with movie 3. But, I have no reason to believe it will.
I liked the show, mainly due to my expectations being very low. All thanks to Sonic Forces destroying what little optimism I had left and forever made me the cynical pesemestic guy when it comes to the future of Sonic stuff. Plus, the Knuckles mini series is MUCH better paced than Sonic Prime, especially Season 3 was stuck on repeat, bleh. So remember boys and girls, the best way to handle your optimism and hype for future Sonic content from a 30+ year old franchise is by NOT having any optimism and hype for dis stuff.
that doesn't work for everybody to be fair
then what's the point in even giving the time to anything involving sonic media. this is such a shitty mindset we need to tell producers of sonic media of WHAT WE NEED AND WANT TO SEE. we are literally in control of the quality they put out and they SHOULD KNOW BY NOW we have EXPECTATIONS and should not undermine US and OUR TIME.
I didn't even watch this show because by the ads alone i knew this wasn't gonna be it. Right after everyone started saying it barely had knuckles on his show, man....
Nope you are 100% correct for the rant. This was one of the worst, most painful things I've ever sat through. And I sat through the Michael Bay Transformers movies
When making something like a movie about a series, but then having nothing to do with said series just to cater to non fans, it doesn’t achieve anything. You piss off the actual fans of that series, and the non fans don’t care and don’t even bother getting into the series. It’s a loss for everyone.
I remember seeing a pitch meeting for cocaine Bear and the producer guy kept asking where is the bear I don't care about the human characters and screen writer said that the bear is entirely in CGI and every time it's on screen that's money out of his pocket so that's basically what they did here.
If I had a nickel for every time writer of sonic media tried to relate the holocaust with sonic I’d have two nickels… which isn’t a lot, but it’s very weird that it’s happened twice
specifically relate them to the echidnas/knuckles
@dark-ninja1678 It's just an example of much of the "Western" world fixates on WW2 and especially the Nazis' antics.
Tbh I get what you feel nick, I've never watched the show. I've had tons of youtubers spin the opinions (mostly bad besides one sonictuber some may know) and Truth be told, I just find it lame. Knuckles is already pushed aside by now. this is the year of *Fearless* Shadow's year. Who cares about the red echidna? The problem with this form of media is they couldn't really give a dang about the original material, especially cuz they never knew it. The movies aren't the best but i've had expectations low for ages because I'm tired of hurting myself *wanting more*.
Your fighting a fight is much more winable now, but still has the dregs like this series that holds the hope of a better enjoyment and appreciation of us fans and it's media. For me, I am truly saddened that "knuckles time to shine" was best portrayed in a smaller form vs idk something everyone will be more likely to see? It's a shame big red is once again left in the dust for shadow but all i can do is hope a fan fills the void.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt that Knuckles got kicked to the curb (on his 30th anniversary of all things) for Shadow. The man can’t even have a year to himself w/o Shadow being brought up. 😢
At least Shadow is actually a popular character who overshadows anyone in the fandom's eyes so there's less of a shame in it, unlike with Wade.
It might get worse though: Rumor has it that Knuckles will have to share his 30th anniversary comic with *Fang* of all characters. You know, the guy who doesn't even have an actual 30 year history to speak of due to him spending most of his existence gathering dust on Segas shelves until last year and who also just got *his own damn comic series* while the Knuckles' Greatest Hits collection struggled so hard to find stories where Knuckles is actually relevant that they had to just print a story starring Blaze in it? I don't want to trash this comic before it's out, but just the idea of using Fang as the antagonist at all seems like it could easily turn the story into a retread of the Angel Island segment in the aforementioned Fang the Hunter comic.
*Has an episode called "The Flames of Disaster" and has that being a big deal.*
Oh, ok.
*Has Knuckles with fiery fists in the last episode.*
Oh, I get it.
*Cue fiery text that spells out "Flames of Disaster" behind him like some cheesy cartoon technique.*

I think that the worst sin this show does is to damage the trust of the fans in Flower as a director.
Before this show, people trusted him in direct the Sonic movies, but between the wedding subplot in Sonic 2 and this show, people may doubt that he will deliver a worthy 3° movie.
Heck, people already had doubts about Flower, this "Knuckles" show just lowered the expectations.
We went in Sonic 1 with the perfect balance (at least IMHO) between human and Sonic, to the odd subplot wedding in 2, and now the human taking the spotlight from the one character people wanted and the one the title is named after. Is like we went regressing rather than improving the formula.

If they want this film series to build up to a Avenger style finale, here's a thought. INTRODUCE MORE OF THE CHARACTERS FROM THE FRANCHISE INSTEAD OF HALF-BAKED HUMAN CHARACTERS. Chaotixs, Cream and Cheese, Rouge the Bat, Silver and Blaze, IDW exclusive characters with stories and arcs that are interesting and unique. Not some bowling daddy left me at a TJ MAXX slock that's been in so many sitcoms' stories since at least the 70s.
Very excited for the Shadow series where Shadow and Maddie goes to a bingo tournament.
I really feel like the problem the movies have is the medium they chose, live action CGI hybrids cost money, it’s cheaper than a full CG movie, but when it comes to things like TV shows, books, or merchandise, the price of the hybrid really comes back to bite you.
We really should have expected this it would be too expensive for them to do anything else if they insist on continuing this CGI hybrid style for outside media. I don’t know why we didn’t just get a 2D animated series, or maybe one that’s stylized based on the comics that they released for the movie.
There were a lot of cheaper more feasible options other than whatever this ended up being. People can defend this all they want, but if a multibillion dollar corporation can’t figure out the most cost effective strategy to make money, then really this is mostly just sad.
There is some fun to be had here, don’t get me wrong, but there are a lot of smarter ways of going about this. Hell take the Chipmunks for example, they had an animated TV series that was tied into the movies, but it didn’t stick with the CGI hybrid style because that was expensive.
I really hope that in the future we can get a series that’s just animated, tie it in more with the games, have it be 2D something akin to the prologue animation for Frontiers or this upcoming Shadow prologue.
It’s not impossible, if the movies are so stuck in being their own thing at this point, that’s fine, just give us something else more related to the games. The movies work as marketing for the games on a larger scale and they don’t require game knowledge to enjoy, whereas this hypothetical animated series could be complimentary to the games and really use the viewer’s knowledge of the games as a backbone for interesting storytelling.
I just want another anime, really give the series the polish it needs, give us something like Sonic X or the OVA again, please SEGA I’m begging you, it would be popular in Japan, really it would, just give it a chance!
My question is, why did it HAVE to be 6 episodes? It could've easily been a 3 part mini-series. This would've saved them a lot more money and it would have been a better show because of the lack of filler bloat.
ik disney and paramount are completely different companies, and that i'm beating a dead horse that's pureed at this point, but the fact that this heaping pile of garbage gets 6 episodes but season 3 of the owl house only got 3 episodes, which solely exist to wrap the show's story up after disney cancelled it for "not fitting the disney channel brand" still infuriates me
@SpinelFan64 They needed all 6 episodes so the show's staff could talk about their issues with their parents and siblings and etc.

Wasted potential, wasted opportunities & a waste of time is the Knuckles series.
I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I'm honestly against more Sonic mini series's, especially if this precedent now means something.
We as fans don't just want the content we love to be covered, but we want it to be respected & expanded upon, hence why the Sonic Frontiers Divergence animation is 1 of the greatest pieces of existing Sonic media.
It’s strange how they casually mention shadow during one of the bowling commentary things when knuckles came crashing through the wall. They say something like “we just looked this up and something like this actually happened 50 years ago. He wasn’t red though.”

The Mr. Plinkett intro has me dead 😭
I got to Wade's family episode and started fast forwarding to all the parts with Knuckles. I don't know who this was for. They could have atleast called it Wade and Knuckles. Super bummed.
I have a theory that the whole quill thing in this show and the movie are building the lore of the Chaos Drives, those pieces of tech that apparently powers GUNs robots from SA2 that usually ends up being used on a Chao. The idea that they are from the quills of the main cast of Sonic and pals makes sense in this context, I was always wondering where they came from. (I think it was suggested by the name that they are extracted from the Chaos Emeralds, but the quill idea ain't bad)
Now if only I was sure they actually INTENDED this possibility, outside of probably just being a coincidence, idk.
I mean, the first movie established how Sonic and his power were unique and that echidnas were looking for him because of it, lo and behold Knuckles and seemingly Tails have the same exact power, so yeah, they ain't used much brain power on this franchise lmao
@Peasham The stinger in the first film showed Tails flying super fast. They are just trying to set up a superhero world where not all the talking critters can go fast but ones like hedgehogs or echidnas or foxes can.

I haven't even seen the Knuckles show yet and, to be honest, as a Knuckles fan, I don't ever really want to. Sonic as a franchise deserves better in live-action form, in my opinion.
In Wade's defense, the writers were probably afraid that if they made a real Knuckles/Echidna lore show, Penders would sue them.
They didn’t have to make the show
They could just get inspired by Sonic Adventure.
Penders doesn't own shit about Echidna lore from the manuals/games
@@KeltkeGH He shouldn't own shit in the comics, either. Penders was always making derivative works under license. Sega and Archie have really crappy lawyers.

it's the same problem as the bayformers films. I'm not here for the humans being silly, I'm here for the warring giant robots that get philosophical sometimes. Really wish hollywood could check their self importance at the door
The series would have been so much better if it was about Knuckles going back to Mobius and teaming up with the Chaotix to fight Chaos. Such a simple concept with so much potential but maybe that would've been too expensive in the CGI department
Imagine also including Fang as a Chaotix member. Who then betrays them for money. Like in Fleetway comics.
Way too expensive. When you're doing CG-live action hybrids, you can't just dump in a million animated characters, especially not on a TV show budget. Still I would have preferred to get an early cameo from Rouge rather than an iteration of Pachacamac that completely ignores what a horrible person he is.
@rainpooper7088 Rouge won't be in the Movies' world soon outside of cameos or a role in something like a comic.

Nick, I want to start off by saying: Thank you.
I followed your channel because I genuinely believe you are one of, if not THE, best Sonic-focused channel on TH-cam. Your videos were educated, your view points balanced, and you were able to bring to light the finer points of Sonic lore and history while many others were either shrugging it off or making bad-faith arguments about Sonic being terrible. When I heard you did not like the Knuckles show, I was scared. I did not hate it; did not love it per se, but I kind of liked it. For a moment, I was afraid you might not see the things I liked about it. Thankfully, your video was fair and just as balanced as I've come to expect. You are justified in your view points, and I hope the third Sonic movie turns out to be far better. I stand by you and the points you've made, and I still consider you the best. You may be called the Game Apologist, but this is definitely a moment where you need not apologize for anything.
---------------------------------------------------------------
That being said, you asked for MY thoughts, so here they are:
I made peace with the fact that we'd be getting human characters and their stories long ago. It's an unavoidable aspect of most live action movies. We've had humans since Sonic Adventure, we've had human companions in Sonic X, we've seen human characters in the comics, and Eggman is human too. I knew humans were going to happen, so I learned to embrace it. I'd be miserable if I didn't. I still want as much Sonic focus as possible, but I'm not gonna turn into a grumpy sourpuss just because humans exist, like I've seen in plenty of other Sonic fans. However, if you are going to have human costars, then you need to understand some very important things...
Make them entertaining. Make them a valuable part of the story. Make the audience GLAD that they followed these new human characters along side the main title characters.
This miniseries did none of that, and as a result, nearly ruined Knuckles along the way.
I was on board at first, but by the third episode, I lost any hope for the human characters. Wade and his sister hate each other to the point where his sister will STAB him without a single shred of remorse, and the mother does nothing to stop it or try and make them love each other. I'm sorry, are we SUPPOSE to like these characters? Cause I don't. Is this suppose to be funny? It's far from it. And they never do anything to redeem themselves. Even when Wade's family is cheering him on in the final episodes, they shove in moments to remind us that his sister hates him with a passion. And the only thing I like about the GUN agents is that it proves there is corruption in GUN, making it far more believable that they might gun down a defenseless girl in a space colony.
By the end of the series, I don't think any of these characters were changed for the better. Knuckles may have learned to relax a little, but I'm still not convinced he has fully assimilated into life on Earth. Wade had his moments, but I am still not convinced he is a smarter or more capable character. His family has not changed in the slightest. There was no reward here. And the scenes of Wade flying out of a cage and winning a sword fight? Forced. The miniseries totally jumped the shark in that moment. It doesn't feel real. It's just a thing that happened. As for Knuckles... Remember that very uncomfortable dinner scene? Knuckles does absolutely NOTHING. He just lets it unfold. We've been through a lot; we've suffered through eras of Knuckles portrayed as a muscle-bound idiot character many times before. I didn't think you could get any worse then that, but they found a way. They made Knuckles dismissive. Yeah! Remember how Sonic 2 made Knuckles cool again? Remember how he was a determined, honor-bound warrior that wasn't going to be stopped? A warrior that lost his family a long time ago and knows how painful that loss is? He had a chance to break up a toxic family feud, to do SOMETHING, and he does absolutely nothing. I cringed so hard, I could barely watch the episode.
Between that, the fact that he doesn't actually train Wade, and the fact that Knuckles' good scenes are limited to action scenes; it's safe to say that Knuckles barely does anything in this show. Even the extended, musical dream sequence robbed us of a good character moment. Knuckles could have been bonding with Wade. He could have been the one to explain his backstory to Wade and us the audience. It could have been animated. Instead, I haven't felt a lack of good character building this strong since I saw the live action Transformers movies.
You could cut out all the pointless human parts. You could collect all the Knuckles scenes, minus dumb parts like that dinner scene, and you'd have a better show. It might not be enough to fill more than one or two episodes, but it would be better. For the most part, it would feel like you're not missing much. No one should be able to say this. Make whatever criticism you want about Tom and Maddie, at least they had some charm and actually helped Sonic grow as a character. Remove them, and you remove an integral part of the movies. Say what you want about the wedding scene in Sonic 2, at least none of the humans suddenly had inexplicable super powers. It's a waste of human characters, a waste of screen time, and ruins the good momentum the first two movies started. Heck, they had Kid Cudi, and he didn't even make a new song for this show. All I wanted was enjoyable, entertaining human characters. We didn't get that, and I don't understand why anyone found them entertaining. They may have been cartoony and over the top, but that doesn't make them good characters.
(Also, glad I'm not the only one shellshocked by a wholesome Pachacamac. Of all the things I could have predicted with this iteration of the Sonic lore, that was not on my bingo card.)
Must your write so much wud 😂😂😂
@@Supershadowthehedgehogoffical I mean... He asked for my thoughts, so I gave them. 😛
@SamuraiEchidna Humies in Sonic were either there for symbolism (Eggman who stands in for war and tycoons and industrialization and pollution and misused science), more antagonistic symbolism (G.U.N.), extensions of furry characters, one-shots, or were minor. They didn't not get remotely amount of focus the Wachowskis or Wade do.
@@galten7361 I am aware of that line of logic. I'd love to know what your thoughts on Sonic X were. What I was saying is that, in live action movies, you cannot avoid the human characters getting additional screen time.
It's a biproduct of doing live action. If you give your CGI cartoon characters human costarts, most of those actors aren't going to play second fiddle to a cartoon. They will want as much screen time as they can get. It's a problem that has been in the live action Transformers movies and many others as well. And since voice actors don't push back as much as on-camera actors do, since CGI is either expensive or a lot of work, stuff like this show is bound to happen.
To get the contrast you are talking about, where the humans are either limited to background characters or major villains, it might as well be an animated movie. No one in Hollywood is going to make a live action movie without having at least one big name or recognizable star they can show on-screen.
I still argue that the movies actually do a better job of giving us a better balance between Sonic screen time and Human screen time. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are probably fine with the amount of screen time they get; so we are lucky in that regard. Not sure why this mini series went in this other direction. Could speculate, but I have no solid proof.
@SamuraiEchidna Sonic X at least kept the actual main cast in-character (like when Sonic actively refused to go to some fancy party to instead have a day out with a girl in a wheelchair and otherwise sticking to his freespirit wanderer characterization rather than be some warrior of Small Town America who fights villains from having a responsibility to). And I never advocated for Sonic being live-action to begin with.
The Wachowskis and the other humies big problem here is that they were designed for the direction they took the films with the actual main cast forced to fit into that direction. You have Sonic, the boy who is the most free boy alive, living in a small town with a policeman stepparent telling him what to do and Sonic actually changing himself from what he was told (to be "responsible" with his superpowers). You have Eggman himself, the iconic villain of the franchise not being a tycoon making factories that fill land with oil making Oil Oceans or ripping the world up to use Sonic Cthulu to build Epcot since he thinks he's making the world more beautiful but instead he's some rogue military man who's just harassing a small town while chasing a space alien.

@elmemearana The live-action Mario movie was much more in line with the games than the Paramount films are towards Sonic's accounting for when each came out. The Mario one kept to the broadstrokes Mario lore of him and Luigi being outsiders to the Mushroom Kingdom from New York who rescue a princess of a mushroom filled kingdom from a demon lord turtle/dragon. While the Sonic movies are about how Sonic needs to be a a space alien superhero champion of Small Town America who gets in bar fights and gets lectured on responsibility with his villain some rogue from America's military rather than a tycoon.
The Knuckles show feels like a show that belongs in a youtube series from the 2010s. It feels like a show meant for casual nerds of Sonic but not really for the hardcore Sonic fans that really just want to see the franchise do easy peak. Sonic X managed to do easy peak just from being a kids anime, why can't hollywood budget productions do that?
@heroicgangster9981 Actual Canon Sonic is not something Paramount and others in Hollywood would make. You'd need at least James Cameron to represent the actual themes of the series.
7:20 Huh, he got divorced? Sorry to hear that
I was looking through the comments to see who else caught that. Man thats rough and he's still out here making videos. Strong dude
Oof.😟
I didn't realise the actor who played The Buyer was Lurch in the 3 Flavours Cornetto Trilogy!
_If you go in with low expectations, you can't be disappointed_
Wade: Oh yeah? Hold my balls.
...
Wade: I mean, my bowling balls...
I thought it was weird when Kuckles did not have alot of screen time. It felt like a rerun of Alf but without Alf.
I feel like I’m the only person who likes this show for being fun…
It was a lot of fun, people just be hatin lol. It did focus more on Wade than I would have liked and Wanda was insufferable, but that alone doesn't make it a bad show. People just want all Sonic media to be just like the games, which (with a few exceptions) are notoriously bad lmao
I think it was fun, I wish there was more knuckles but I thought it was a decent show and it made me laugh a couple times
@@uhohkittykitty 2/10 ragebait, nick explicitly said in the video he didn't want the show to be just like the games or filled with references 🫂
@@Hazel_TheOne wasn't referring to him, I meant more the sonic fandom in general. My fault for not making that clear lol
I did too it was a fun show to turn my brain off to, a silly light side thing to get ready for Sonic 3 in December which might be more heavy due to Shadow and his backstory
To be fair, I still like Wade and his family more than that whiny rich kid who looks like Sora.
I hated the movies and the knuckles show. it feels so constrained. it should of been about sonic stuff because that's what it's called. but it's like they are afraid of showing sonic stuff. and sonic fans pretend it's okay because it's better then nothing. hardly any of them seem to actually like it for what it is and just like what it represents: a big commercial success with sonics face plastered on it that has almost nothing to do with sonic.
it's fine if people like the show and the movies. but it feels like wasted potential. imagine a big cinematic action animated sonic movie with heart and challenges the audience a little
What are you talking about, a Sonic movie where Sonic refuses to try and help others because he's "just a kid" and it's too much responsibility for a kid like him whilst being adopted by a white man cop is the perfect adaptation of Sonic!
@@Peasham yeah. it's funny too cuz sonic is anti cop/anti authority.
(waku waku sonic doesn't count and makes no sense. the game is a parody tbh I think)
@@BlueTakBlur Yeah I think Sonic Adventure 2 supercedes an obscure Japan only popcorn machine game lmao, at least I think that's the popcorn machine one.
Seriously though, I love how Sonic in the movies is never shown fighting the government or police aside from Eggman, in 2 the gun agents just capture him and he does nothing lmao, Can't wait for them not to have gunned down Maria either cuz they're incompetent or cuz they're the good guys
lets not lump the first two movies in with knuckles, the films are of way higher quality and showed more sonic elements than knuckles, especially movie 2 which i thought yall touted as more of a sonic movie
@@kaobunn Idk who "y'all" is but every problem the Knuckles show has is present in the movies as well, is the thing.
Why cant we just get a sonic cartoon series like what we saw in that sonic frontiers knuckles animation or those sonic mania animation shorts.
From the sheer unbridled vitriol I saw from you, Sam, and Johnny on Twitter, I expected FAR worse.
At least Knuckles wasn't given the same treatment as Loki, Picard, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Nick Fury, and Daredevil; completely shit on to elevate the "new and better" characters.
And I'm sorry, but if people are gonna apologise for Sonic X sidelining the main characters, then they're gonna have to do the same thing here.
And at least with Knuckles it's one Sonic character vs several human characters, not one human character against several Sonic characters.
This doesn't ruin Knuckles like I feared it would, like all other streaming shows based on legacy characters have all done, with malice.
If you went into this expecting Rouge or the Chaotix to show up, then you were just setting yourself up for disappointment, as there's no way that was going to happen.
This is easily better than all the crap from Marvel and Star Wars on Disney+ and even Sonic Prime, on the basis that it had an actual story and ending that it stuck too and all time and investment wasn't wasted.
Those claiming this is one of the worst things to come out of this franchise... I think you need a recap of exactly how bad things were before.
This is not the start of something terrible, it was just a simple miniseries that serves as a "sure, why not" type of entry.
tbh ppl just need to stop hating with little reason. tbh im just happy this show had a good budget unlike megamind 2 and crap. we lucky we even got a show before sonic 3 in the first place. i can see why ppl hate wade kinda taking the spotlight though, since we dont really see him much in movies 1 or 2, and i also think its a bit weird they kinda just brought back wade outta nowhere, but i can see why they brought him back, it also give him more lore, character growth, and made the show more funny.
@@SHIGGINS-gg7mz
Considering the budget they had to work with, Knuckles was on screen much more than I thought he'd be.
While stuff like Marvel and Star Wars have budgets in the $150m-$200m range and yet they look so cheap and fake.
Not being as bad as Disney+ crap isn't an achievement.
Honestly, agree that this show isn't all that bad. But disagree with some of the things said here about other stuff.
I didn't go in expecting Rouge, The Chaotix or whatever. I went it expecting it to be about Knuckles.
It was instead about Wade, bowling, comparing the Echidna tribe's demise to the holocaust, and Wade wanking it to cardboard.
