I seldom comment but I look forward to a new episode every day and am enjoying following your trek. Hope your tooth gets better soon. I chuckled at the "insufficient coffee" comment ... I'd think that anything short of about a gallon would be considered insufficient by Matt standards lol.
I hope you’re feeling better now Matt. Sleep deprivation is no joke, especially with so many miles you guys are walking. You both take care and stay safe. God bless ❤
Sinus pain that feels like tooth ache haunted me for years. I finally had some nasal polyps removed and that cured it for good. I still use nasal sprays and decongestants to help keep the airways clear. Good luck Matt.
Before you mentioned them at the end, I was noticing in the clips you certainly had found the cicadas. They've popped out here in Indiana in the last week or so too. I don't know about Kansas, but here in Indiana, most often when grass crops such as wheat, barley, etc. have been harvested, farmers will plant a second crop of soy beans in the same fields for two crops per season. Matt, I hope the tooth pain has gotten to feeling better, tooth pain can be a miserable experience.
I don't know how you two do it....that one shot with the blazing sun ahead, silo on your right, endless road ahead looked very apocalyptic...Jens cross country mileage has to be increased by at least 1,000 for after stopping for night camp, she always chas to find a store or home to get water at.I don't think she knocks on door and says Hi I'm a professor Walking cross country comparing the ph of county waters, or I left my man slumped in a parched heap over yonder... could you spare some water...but she always returns smiling arms full of bottles of cold water Must feel nice after a long hot day.Great team work Matt has tent pitched, gear inside area policed and ready for dinner...sigh perhaps a traveling " Chuck wagon" , sag wagon or personal chef from a local restaurant cooking whatever your heart desires.Well just have to form an 501(c)3 organization to make it happen..At least you still are beautiful, the trail didn't make you mean and ornery
Osage orange - pretty cool little things - supposedly keeps spiders away! Hope the sinus/tooth thing gets figured out. We have more miles to watch and you have much more coffee drinking and nacho eating! Hike on!
Your tooth probably started bothering you again because the pressure dropped when what was left of the hurricane came through. Low pressure means more pain. Even the average weather system can cause it. It’s crazy they didn’t see an abscess because it just sounds like an abscess.
Been following channel since Mississippi River trip vids. I’m Mississippi riverboat captain, but live in Oklahoma City. I’ve had thoughts, since you started this trip, of meeting up and hiking or chatting, when you get to middle Kansas area, closest to me. I don’t want to hold up any progress, and as a fellow TH-camr, I’m not sure how appropriate that would be. I would bring supplies, or anything that would be helpful or needed. Thoughts?
Sure, long as it works out schedule wise on both sides we’d be more than happy to meet. At the very least we’re always happy to chat over cold drinks and sandwiches :)
Osage Orangewood got its name from the Osage Indian Tribe because it was a common tree on their land Because of its hardness and durability it is perfect for making weapons like bows
Im thinking maybe an allergy attack . Sinuses maybe dont like something youre walking through. You never know how things are going to react. My suggestion is ibuprofen and/or Claritin or Allegra. Claritin works for a lot of people. It worked wonderfully for my hubby for about a month, and then he built up a tolerance to it, and it stopped working. Allegra still works.
__ If you ever need words to describe the land/water you're passing through, the Missouri River is William Least Heat-Moon's territory. He's the bard of the Missouri the way Mark Twain is the bard of the Mississippi. He also does Kansas the way only someone from Missouri can do Kansas. As soon as you hit the Rockies, you're on your own. But that's starting to be your home territory anyway.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I find him almost unlistenable and yet given high profile books to narrate. Also the whole Westley crusher thing in Star Trek TNG
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes as a fairly new audiobook enthusiast, I'll have to 100% agree Wil Wheaton's dialect is annoying and unbearable, followed closely by Brent Spiner--love the actor, hate his audiobook. I'm currently listening to Project Hail Mary and Ray Porter is CRUSHING it. George Guidall's crown is in jeopardy.
@goatcheese4me Hail Mary was awesome. if you haven’t listened to the Martian try and find the version done by RC Bray. They sadly re-recorded it with Wheaton which was of course a massive downgrade. I don’t think I’ve come across anything read by Spiner
Tooth pain bites. I hope you’re able to find another dentist, because (speaking as someone who worked in a dental office for a decade) the unfortunate truth is that sometimes a dying tooth doesn’t appear with an abscess on X-ray… :( So sorry that your hike is being interrupted like that.
They did a pretty thorough exam in addition to the xray and talked through things with me pretty well so I at least have a fair amount of confidence in their diagnosis. I am keeping a close eye on it though
That would just completely take away all the enjoyment I get from drinking pipping hot coffee. I wouldn’t mind a stomach tube on occasion to spare me the annoyance of constantly having to eat trail food out here though…
Wow, so cool, the rarest bird yet on all your adventures! B-2 Stealth Bomber!!!
That plane was something special! Hope you feel better tomorrow
I hope you are feeling better now. Not getting enough sleep makes for a long, unpleasant day. Thanks for sharing.

Wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed meeting you 2. I had my knee replacement surgery today! Love your videos, Diane
We enjoyed it too :) hope the recovery goes really quickly

Now that’s a pile of firewood! Grass under the tent for the win! Big Soft Earplugs!
Thanks, hope you feel better, safe journeys. ✌🏻👊🏼
Knowing this post is from six days ago I hope you are feeling better by now. Jen is amazing when it comes to securing water 👍😎✌

I stumbled across your videos a couple of weeks ago, and I'm getting caught up! Hope the park stay was a good one :)

Hey Y'all. Feel better as soon as you are able, Matt!
Misery in Missouri. :P I hope whatever is ailing you cleared up in the time since.

If in Kansas City or close and need anything we would love bring supplies for your journey through!
Thanks for the offer but we actually went through Kansas City a few days ago. Currently between Lawrence and Ottawa

That bomber was looking for hidden camping areas.
Sorry for your pain. I've had tooth pain before that I swore was my sinuses, but it wasn't. I hope you find relief soon.

Day 97 watch. B-2 bombers are cool. Hike on you two.

Hope you get your pain cleared up! What was that green ball thing Jen was holding. Mushroom of some sort?😊
I think those are Osage Oranges.
Bois de Arc, bodark, Osage orange. All the same tree.
Interesting history.
Chill-How-Wee, ( as in wee-wee ).
Old Indian Name.
osage orange?

I'm not sure if anyone else responded, but those green "fruits" are what we call hedge apples.
my grandma called em crab apples
Crap apples are small and red.
Though, they are also called osage oranges. I guess apples and oranges aren't so different. Lol
Do you clench your teeth at night?

That looks like an osage orange.
Nifty B-2 shots! Distract you for a time from the jaw pain. Hope you get that cleared up! And then Hike on! Tortoise
Mat hates Wil Wheaton? Sounds like a story there...
Careful Matt, your Sheldon Cooper is showing.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I find him almost unlistenable and yet given high profile books to narrate. Also the whole Westley crusher thing in Star Trek TNG
I am at two online degrees of Wil Wheaton. He reblogged someone who reblogged me on tumblr, twice.

Wil Weaton on Matt's bad list? Awesome 🙂 Sure he was Wesley Crusher, what else could he have done to incur the wrath of Matt?
Narrated in his smarmy fashion too many audiobooks which I would have been interested in

Mat... you need to figure out a Coffee IV drip

And what was wrong with Alabama?
Alabama and northern Florida were the worst of the dog attacks and people issues back in 2021 during the ECT hike
katy trail nice and all but why not just use the ozarks
That’s another one of those questions only the ADT society can answer

The main historical reason for Kansas City not being in Kansas is just for yucks.
Maybe, you grind your teeth in your sleep?
