Honestly the best thing about Black Flag is the exploration and the tropical settings. There are always something to do when you visit islands using the Jackdaw while listening to sea shanties about leaving your dearest and fighting ghost ships.
It probably gets overlooked a lot, but I really appreciate you putting in the extra bit of effort to muffle your vocals whenever the character you're playing as is underwater. It's a really nice touch
I notice that too. He also does echo when his character is in a big empty room in Minecraft. I love his attention to detail. Kevin is such a humble genius.

He was in constant fights with his crew who he was also entirely dependent on because he didn't know jackshit about seafaring, got in a single fight with a Spanish ship and immediatly lost (a third of his crew died), then got captured, his ship stolen and held hostage by Blackbeard, and died a few months after being released by him. Bonnet was arguably the worst pirate we know about.

Black Flag is my absolute favorite Assassin's Creed game. The gameplay, the shanties, the story, it's just top tier. I played it for hours on end on my younger days. That music from the main menu alone was enough to give me goosebumps. Edit: If you keep playing the game, do keep in mind that when there's that "Y" icon on enemy ships, you gotta hold Y rather than mash it.

The fact that the first assassination mission you picked up has you kill the same Monkey Island reference that Geralt of Rivia had to take on in an insult duel really does make this the greatest pirate game ever.
My favorite thing to do at the end of this game was to wear the Mayan armor (makes you bullet proof) and cheese the system for building the fleet. There was an area on the map where the man-of-wars had to go slow through a narrow spot and I realized that if you grab onto an enemy ship while it's moving, it immediately stops. You can kill everyone, swim back to your ship, then claim it for your fleet without having to take damage to either yourself or your ship. Good times
@@domenick_peters If I am being honest, I don't remember. It's been so long since I last played Black Flag. Your best bet is to follow ships along the coastlines until you find a suitable area. If I remember correctly, they will pathfind around your ship so you can make wider areas work too just by blocking as much of the opening as possible.
It brings me great joy to watch Kevin play my favorite game series. If I may suggest, you should play Unity because it's hilariously glitchy and Syndicate because the main character is basically you, only British.

I just think its got weird pacing, and it doesn't ever REALLY feel like I have control over what the character does. I have finished Black Flag once back in 2017. I started playing it again just to feel the virtual caribbean again in 2024. I am still playing it. This time I am exploring EVERYTHING the game has to offer - the assassin contracts, the naval missions, the diving bell missions, the treasure maps, the mayan puzzles, everything. Black Flag is my favourite AC game and seeing Kevin play it made me click on it immediately.
This video just got me to reinstall the game. No AC game since kept me as interested. The damn double legendary ship battle was my breaking point last time

Seeing Black Flag and the graphics just makes me cry a little because I remember when this was new, and the graphics back then where so lifelike vs what we have now makes this look like Dead Island 😂 Still love this game, I remember playing it with my friend back in 3rd or 4th grade
It was the best of the time, but now that there are better examples, it's nice to look for each way they tried to make it realistic and see it as its own unique style.
One of my all time favorite games, such a great story and the gameplay itself is a pure joy.. Oh and don't even get me started in the perfect sea shanties. Great video as always Kevin, the Sea will never recover. :')

I'm glad to see Kevin play a game in the Assassin's creed series, I used to really love it. In Black Flag in particular ,I played so much, that I became the richest player in my region (according to in game statistics).
You outdid yourself in this video! The editing was perfect - the freezes, the commentary, the emphasis, all delightful. It was a little hard to hear the game voice acting but once I put in headphones it was fine. And it was clear you were really enjoying yourself! So fun!☺️

I played the feck out of this game ages ago. Even after I finished the story and maxed out the Jackdaw, I remember spending hours just island-hopping and sailing around leaving the "sing shanty" option on. You know those comments on the public Ubisoft versions of the sea shanties here, saying that "At some point, we all got off the Jackdaw for the last time and we didn't know it"? This is such a huge nostalgia trip and Kevin's reliable narration just adds more charm to it. Thank you, Kevin, for revisiting this masterpiece of a game.

I found it surprising that no one brought up the fact that KEVIN is playing ASSASINS CREED, one of the best games ever in my opinion and one of my favorite TH-camrs, he has been playing all of my favorite games so far I feel blessed
Love the love for black flag. Was one of the best ACs imo and the side content was hella fun especially ship battles and upgrades. The only game of the open world type that I truly 100%-ed all of the collectible and side stuff because it was all super fun. Atmosphere, characters, badassery of being a ninja pirate, it had it all.
Kevin having an aneurysm while the game makes him take the opponent's piece in checkers is gold 😂😂😂 I guess Anna and her chess ways rub off on him too much, so he forgot that in checkers you MUST take if you have a chance to do so 😆
This video inspired me to buy the game and up to this date I have got to say it is one of my favourite games of all time. Even though I didn't buy it long after you posted, that being about 5 months ago, I still get nostalgia from the mornings I'd get up early to play the game. Such a good game, and such a good soundtrack as well!

24:43 You seem to be confusing quarter-master and captain. The QM keeps track of money, making sure everyone gets paid and follows the code of the ship, making sure all jobs are accounted for, noting any damages to the ship, making sure everyone always has clean water and food, and generally being the guy who keeps the ship running. The captain is the guy in front of the wheel, leading everyone to make sure the ship moves forward, and also takes charge in battle, telling everyone how and where to fight in the midst of it. The captain is just another part of the crew, if the crew doesn't like the captain, they can actually elect a new one (the only time this can't happen is during battle, can't have any in-fighting during that) while the quarter-master can't really be replaced, his job is too important and difficult. I'd say he works best as a QM, and your character would work best as a captain. In fact, the example you gave is exactly what the quartermaster would be doing lol. Think of it like this 25:36

7:09 I come here one year later just to tell you that I find it hilarious that Kevin played that game 3 years ago and accidentally threw coin on the ground, and then he played that game two year after that and did the exact same thing in the exact same place. Fabulous.
Flashbacks to the last time Kevin played this game when everyone on his crew immediately died with the exception of one guy who just floated in mid air.
i just came back from four hours of fighting a massive fire near my (10x12 blocks big) town, worsened by the drought my country's going thru and the fact that fire fighters could do very little due to lack of water. im coughing and covered in splinters, and I'm pretty sure as soon as I calm down I'm gonna have a little stress cry about this. But I got home and I found Kevin had uploaded today, so things could be going worse. Thanks Kev, your timing has been impeccable.
as of right now only empty buildings caught fire and bo one has gotten hurt! it's been mostly put out (last i heard it was still going but far from our town) and the only risk is that the winds will change and it will reignite during the night. things really went as well as the possibly could have. no need to worry about us!

Man I just imagined Kevin playing through this like he played through Pirates of Caribbean, recruiting people by storming ships taking the ships for himself and playing Ocean man during sea battles because somehow some way that is the only song that gives him good luck. hi kevin, i know this will probably be left in the sea of comments but i just want to thank you for the positive impact you've had on my life. ive struggled with chronic depression my whole life and constantly felt a sense of emptiness, but your videos have helped me fill a gap, and at times, genuinely saved my life. i dont think id be here today if it werent for your content so thank you for always putting in effort for us.

I played the feck out of this game ages ago. Even after I finished the story and maxed out the Jackdaw, I remember spending hours just island-hopping and sailing around leaving the "sing shanty" option on. You know those comments on the public Ubisoft versions of the sea shanties here, saying that "At some point, we all got off the Jackdaw for the last time and we didn't know it"? This is such a huge nostalgia trip and Kevin's reliable narration just adds more charm to it. Thank you, Kevin, for revisiting this masterpiece of a game.

I found it surprising that no one brought up the fact that KEVIN is playing ASSASINS CREED, one of the best games ever in my opinion and one of my favorite TH-camrs, he has been playing all of my favorite games so far I feel blessed
Love the love for black flag. Was one of the best ACs imo and the side content was hella fun especially ship battles and upgrades. The only game of the open world type that I truly 100%-ed all of the collectible and side stuff because it was all super fun. Atmosphere, characters, badassery of being a ninja pirate, it had it all.
It is basically canon that the quartermaster guy is far better at everything than the protagonist
Please do a full playthrough of this game. Honestly would make amazing content

This video inspired me to buy the game and up to this date I have got to say it is one of my favourite games of all time. Even though I didn't buy it long after you posted, that being about 5 months ago, I still get nostalgia from the mornings I'd get up early to play the game. Such a good game, and such a good soundtrack as well!
I like how Kevin did a video on Black Flag some years ago and when been told to use smoke bomb he accidentally threw conins both times.
Love to see one of my favourite youtubers playing a game from my favourite series. Kevin if there's one game in the series I think you'd have a lot of fun with it would be Assassin's Creed Syndicate, you get to start a gang in London, nuff said.

24:43 You seem to be confusing quarter-master and captain. The QM keeps track of money, making sure everyone gets paid and follows the code of the ship, making sure all jobs are accounted for, noting any damages to the ship, making sure everyone always has clean water and food, and generally being the guy who keeps the ship running. The captain is the guy in front of the wheel, leading everyone to make sure the ship moves forward, and also takes charge in battle, telling everyone how and where to fight in the midst of it.
The captain is just another part of the crew, if the crew doesn't like the captain, they can actually elect a new one (the only time this can't happen is during battle, can't have any in-fighting during that) while the quarter-master can't really be replaced, his job is too important and difficult.
I'd say he works best as a QM, and your character would work best as a captain. In fact, the example you gave is exactly what the quartermaster would be doing lol. Think of it like this 25:36

You ought to try AC: Rogue. I’ve never played it myself but I know it’s a lot like this one in regards to gameplay. It definitely didn’t get the love or recognition as Black Flag, but it’s supposed to be pretty good!It has a remaster too I believe!

One of the hidden gems of this game is the fact that you can use most of the special moves right from the start, so long as you knew how to do them
i just came back from four hours of fighting a massive fire near my (10x12 blocks big) town, worsened by the drought my country's going thru and the fact that fire fighters could do very little due to lack of water. im coughing and covered in splinters, and I'm pretty sure as soon as I calm down I'm gonna have a little stress cry about this. But I got home and I found Kevin had uploaded today, so things could be going worse. Thanks Kev, your timing has been impeccable.
as of right now only empty buildings caught fire and bo one has gotten hurt! it's been mostly put out (last i heard it was still going but far from our town) and the only risk is that the winds will change and it will reignite during the night. things really went as well as the possibly could have. no need to worry about us!
