    This is what they call a youngblood of the predator species..Inexperienced and feral it has to earn its weaponry over time Through different hunts.. He's actually being watched by the others for the most part..His weapons haven't been upgraded yet because he's still pretty Inexperienced.. And yes what's thrown to the chief at the end is from predator two.. This movie is movie of the year for me ,,love it

      Well it's also set waaaay in the past so they may not have invented the plasma shoulder gun yet. Maybe the trial in this movie is what motivated them to go "damn...we should really stop using that laser guided arrow and come up with something new."

    She noticed the laser dots that killed the first Native and the laser dots in the grass on the other Natives head. The arrows are directed by the mask and laser, not were he points them. So the arrows redirected back to his face were the laser was pointing.

    • @BoboftheOldeWays
      @BoboftheOldeWays ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She also saw that he would use the weapon in a fight even if he couldn’t rely on the mask. So she knew if she made him mad/desperate enough, he’d do the same at her.

  • @michaylakimble7113

    I didn't personally feel like the brother was trying to be disrespectful towards her, I think he became scared and frustrated when she fell out of the tree and could've died. I think he really did believe in her but was also worried and sometimes worry comes across the wrong way.
    And about the Firebird legend that was mentioned. All Native American tribes have different legends. Like in Navajo culture, there's a creature called: a skin-walker (Navajo: yee naaldlooshii) a type of harmful witch who has the ability to turn into, possess, or disguise themselves as an animal.
    And there is a Firebird legend that is apparently spread out in different tribes.
    There is an old Indian legend about a Firebird who lived in the center of the Great Dismal Swamp, a territory shared by surrounding tribes for thousands of years. The fearsome creature formed its nest (at the site of Lake Drummond) through a vast wildfire, killing countless Indian families as it burned a hole into the ground. According to the legend, an Indian hunter killed the Firebird’s babies within the nest and used their skin, feathers, and claws as a disguise to hunt the Firebird. When the Firebird realized what happened, it abandoned its nest, leaving the swamp in peace. The blood of the Firebird’s babies-the red waters that fill Lake Drummond-are a lasting reminder of the hunter’s success.

    Simple explanation of how she killed him is The bolts he shoots go where the laser sight is pointing and she had his mask with the sight set up pointing at his head. So even if he shot it straight up in the air it would eventually go where the laser points.

    • @CarltonAbas
      @CarltonAbas ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Also I think the wireless connection between the mask and gun has a range limit. So if the mask and gun lose connection the gun defaults to unguided mode. Since the predator didn't know what happened to the mask he probably assumed the gun was in unguided mode and pulled the trigger.

    YES. YOU GET ME LIKE NOBODY ELSE.
    Predators are SO sexy.
    Also, the reason why this one has different gear and looks smaller is because it's a Youngblood. Naru and the "Feral Predator" (as he's been named by fans) are BOTH on a sort of "first hunt" to prove themselves. A Youngblood has to survive and take trophies from the most dangerous creatures on a planet in order to be allowed to use things like a Plasmacaster.

    Amalgamated Dynamics did the incredible Practical effects for Prey. I highly recommend looking up behind-the-scenes footage of what the Feral Predator looked like without the CGI layered on top of his face.
    This isn’t the first time Amalgamated Dynamics has had their hard work covered up digitally.
    *Gives The Thing (2011) incident a very hard side eye* God the studio execs did them so fucking dirty…
    Anyway! I think the blend of practical & Cgi is more balanced in Prey VS The Thing (2011). Which COMPLETELY covered up Amalgamated Dynamics’ practical work… That being said. I still wish they had let A.D.’s effects shine through a lot more in Prey.
    IMO, It would have been better to utilize the CGI to remove/cover up minimal things in post. Like exposed wires, or technical malfunctions. It doesn’t make sense to me, why a studio would want to spend all that money making realistic looking practical effects. Just to completely cover them up with a subpar digital model.
    Cgi should complement great practical, not completely erase it. When that happens. Most of the time, it just ends up looking way less tangible, & worse as a result.

    Happy Saturday! I've never seen a Predator movie before and I decided to watch this movie when I saw it on Hulu, it was SO good! It was such a stunning movie, an extremely unique choice to center this sci-fi slasher in such a specific point in time and cast all Native talent which we hardly ever see. Gorgeous cinematography, Amber Midhunter made Naru so likeable and her arc was so thrilling. And the action had me so shook, really cool kills. Did some Googling, the Thunderbird is mythical creature (like a mermaid or griffon) specific to this culture. Naru either took it as a sign that she was ready for her trial as a hunter or she specifically wanted the glory of finding and fighting the Thunderbird (ironically, she did in fact get her wish lmao.) Loved that little tease in the credits that more Predators were touching down, you know a movie is good when it's a perfect standalone but I just want to see more of this world. Definitely plan on watch the rest on Hulu or at least the original.

    The Predator in this film was a lot like the Predator in "Predators" with Adrian Brody. The gun was the same gun given to Danny Glover in "Predator 2". The name on the gun along the year is the give away. Predator weapons can be controlled by the targeting light on the helmet along with doing it by eye. She had the tracker on the helmet and when he shot her the tracker targeted him and the bow hit him. Yeah I am a geek.

    Hey Nick! Well, this was certainly a pleasant surprise in a very boring (and cold and rainy here at my place!) day, especially all those funny edits. I watched it this week and enjoyed it very much! I agree with much of what you said about the characters, tone and style of the film. It stands on its own in a certain way, but the fans will still enjoy recognizing bits and pieces of connection to previous films.
    I particularly liked how Naru (I think it is supposed to be pronounced as Nardu?) grows throughout the film, as she starts as a clumsy and uncertain (just as her brother says) and becomes more determined later on. Regards the (Feral) Predator, the director (Dan Trachtenberg, who did _10 Cloverfield Lane_ ) explained how this individual probably comes from a different culture and location of their home planet, which explain his looks, and is quite young and inexperienced, which explains his character and actions too.
    I also watched _The Fog_ this week and loved it! The story was a bit simple but it really has awesome music, beautiful landscape shots and those leper ghosts were genuinely scary! Now I definitely have to check out the remake too.

    I love the Predator franchise! I feel like it never gets enough love compared to the Alien franchise. When I saw that this film was coming out I got so freaking excited! That Zzavid shakin at the beginning had me rolling. xD A mountain lion silly. A cougar. The most dangerous animal in North America. I really like this girl. I don't always like the protagonist. Oh my god. you are always so freaked out by bugs and now you get attacked in your own home (probably because it's summertime)! Talk about a jumpscare! 🤣 I had to pause to see where this was filmed and it said it was filmed in the Rockies. That bear scene was intense!! I think the reason it looks so different is because this is like two - three hundred years before the times we are used to seeing them so there is no helmet or the things we recognize. Their technology was different. This is one of my favorite predators ever. and I meant the alien not the movie. Though i guess I mean the movie too. 😅 Nick you and me were both dancing when he killed those white men. After she cut that guy's leg off she proved how scary she could be. 😱I was looking up Naru and it said she was in a movie called Only Mine (2019) that might be a fun watch.

    I love this movie, but ngl, it could've used about 80% less background score. There are several scenes I've watched with the sound turned off and they just work so much better than with a band in the background trying to clue the viewer in to what they should be feeling.

    I really like this movie, she wasn't the best hunter because of her skills, but she had skills that were relevant. She had to outsmart this Hunter that was better than her brother was, and he was the best hunter she knew. But she was much smarter than her brother, and she used her skills and her brains to defeat this predator's brawn.

    Hey Handsome. did you get the Flint Lock Pistol reference at the end of the movie? in Predator 2. the predator Elder gave Danny Glover the flint lock pistol after he killed the predator that was hunting him throughout the whole movie, as a token of Honor. Naru gave the same pistol to the tribe woman at the end of the movie that she obtained from the colonel man she helped by giving him the plant to cool his blood temp down, before the predator stepped on him lol. so this indicates that somehow the predators obtained the pistol again some how. so naturally this means that there will be a sequel if this movie makes enough money. perhaps the predators return to earth and kill the tribe? if you notice in the credits scene the tribe drawings show what happened through the entire movie and at the very end of the credits you see the drawings show more predator ships coming to earth again. Cheers NickyBoo. Muah.

    My husband and I think he looks different because he's a teenage so his face and body are more lean and lanky. Like, he's totes going through his ugly phase. They are paralleled, both are teen warriors fighting for respect. And I clocked that he only uses weapons comparable to his prey. So he used his claws with the animals, arrows with the Native Americans, and explosives when the fur trappers used gun powder. That's why he used his net only after they used a net on him.

    I really enjoyed this movie. I remember I immediately went to the trailer for this movie on TH-cam and left my opinion of the movie there. There were some people who agreed with me, but there were also quite a few people who called this a) boring, b) Woke and c) terrible writing. Now, I guess for some people who see a hint of skin color in a leading actor, also the fact that she's a woman, that must make this movie Woke. I didn't quite understand the people who said it was Boring, but maybe they like the movies where the script is so-so but there are a lot of explosions and one liners that are zingers. I also didn't get when people said they thought the writing was terrible.
    My take was a lot like yours, I loved the beautiful vistas, I loved how they didn't explain anything. There were no subtitles under the French, so we were to experience these interlopers pretty much through Native eyes. I know a little French, and so I understood some of what they said, such as that dude wanted to eat the dog (but whyyyy?). The guy by the stream, wasn't he the one who was going to do really bad things to her? Pretty sure that was him. He deserved to die badly.
    Edit: I explained the whole mask thing and just erased it - everyone else already mentioned it.
    What I really appreciated about this movie is, she had so many things going against her. She wanted to be a hunter, but the others felt she was only good for being a medicine woman (in all fairness, she was great at her job). Her whole life she had to pay attention to details or people died. When she studied Predator, she noticed all the details that the others missed. It paid off.
    A little bit about medicine, back before technology: The best herbalists sussed out idiosyncrasies of different plants. For example, Foxglove has a digitoxin which a small amount can definitely kill, but back in the day, before the quantity of Foxglove could become a standard for heart medication, there was this man who begged a local herbalist ("witch") for her recipe to this heart medication. She wouldn't give it to him, so he ended up experimenting on his patients, killing a bunch of people before he got the recipe right. Anyway, this girl's knowledge is the knowledge of generations of her people figuring out the right amounts. Hopefully not as many people needlessly died. There are some plants that, after the continental drift, are still all part of the same family, with slightly different qualities (sort of like potatoes and tomatoes are part of the deadly nightshade family). So, sometimes an herbal remedy that was created by a Native American medicine man/woman might be real similar to a medicine created by a medicine man/woman on a completely different continent, using a different plant that just happens to still be in the same plant family. Sorry for this digression, I thought maybe you might find it interesting.
    Very good movie, I'm glad you covered it!
