    as a trans person i believe that trans people shouldn't share sports or same jail areas (trans fem + fem) or (trans male + male) since pregnancy can happen that way and people will sexually assault or harass those with the parts still.
    for the sports, hormones do play a big part and its only for the fairness, not to separate them.
    i hope people understand coming from a trans person myself, im only expressing opinions and what i think and not what the world should think.

    • @summer48888
      @summer48888 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      i know this is old but im replying as a trans person with my opinion too
      sports i dont understand mostly. if a trans person wants to be in a sport professionally, they should be going through hormone transition in order to face the gender they identify as. if a trans person doesnt want to take hormones but participates in sports, they would likely have to face against same sex because their body chemistry hasnt changed.
      im a trans man 1¼ years on T and at this point, the only difference between me and a cis man is our reproductive organs. there is more progress i have, but my secondary sex characteristics are not of a woman at all. hormones change bone structures (not drastically but subtly), as well as muscle mass.
      estrogen suppresses testosterone, and in many cases, a trans woman 6-12 months on HRT is weaker than a cis woman because cis women are used to high amounts of estrogen. a cis woman taking estrogen for sports is like a steroid because it boosts her strength. a trans woman taking estrogen changes the male reproduction and communicating to the body to use estrogen more (we all have genetic coding for sustaining high amounts of estrogen/testosterone regardless of our reproductive organs)
      so what i'm saying is that a trans person, even if they don't have sex reassignment, should be able to participate in a sport of their preferred gender as long as they are on hormones for a certain duration. physicals are important, though im not athletic and idk how those processes go. but if a trans man years on T competes in wrestling, jujitsu etc. with a cis man, their secondary sex characteristics and general strength should match. it depends on the height, weight and fitness of the people participating. but i wouldnt say you should exclude people solely because of someones biology at birth. a short trans man (>5'6) might want to avoid basketball because of the taller advantages. vice versa that a tall trans woman should be cautious of her advantage in basketball against cis women.
      one thing i do feel strongly is that there is no relevance to genitalia in sports, and just about every social event on earth. we use those body parts for private things, and they are not in the way when we attend public things. nobody should take offense or take advantage of a person in a bathroom or locker room with differing genitalia.
      i said a lot lol but what do you think?

    • @Bob-kk2vg
      @Bob-kk2vg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@summer48888 it’s a sticky subject but research has shown that males who go through puberty will on average develop larger/stronger anterior cruciate ligaments. This makes them less prone to injury.
      My question would be does hormone treatment of a man transitioning to a woman weaken the already male developed anterior cruciate ligaments enough so as to negate the competitive advantage?
      There are many questions like this and not a lot of long term studies and it will be interesting to see what happens.
      I was curious what you meant about if a cis woman takes estrogen it is like a steroid and performance enhancing? Though it can improve muscle function estrogen weakens ligaments and tendons which make an athlete more prone to catastrophic injury. Estrogen is not performance enhancing in woman born female. Female power lifters for example will take testosterone but not estrogen.

    A lot of these problems children face and parents are noticing with social media can be fixed with parents becoming more media literate and tech literate. If parents have the tools and resources and take the time to understand what social media is and how it functions as well as how devices work they can better monitor their kids.
    But a lot of this starts with parents understanding they can’t just throw a tablet at their kid and think there will be no consequences. And unfortunately we are not at the point where parents are taking accountability in how their kids use tech they give them. Rather they look to blame social media and tech as a whole. Which it is definitely designed to use kids and feed them stuff but parents should be the front line to stop social media and tech from having such a hold on their children.

    I don’t comment too often on here but as a trans woman myself, I personally believe that a good majority of us trans folk shouldn’t compete in professional sports against the opposite gender to that of ours at birth. I feel that any prior experiences before transition can definitely play as advantages against the opposite gender as ours at birth and that even though we might be at a slight disadvantage due to hormones/etc, we should still play against our birth gender. I believe for some sports however, (e.g. golf) that gender placement shouldn’t matter whatsoever.
    That’s my personal take on the issue and although I personally don’t care at all for sports, I still believe that regardless of identity, they shouldn’t be barred from competing, just being on that of a level playing field.

In my opinion transgender people's participation in professional sports should be decided on a case by case basis. If it's something like darts, chess, table tennis, etc. I don't see an issue with trans people competing. However, in contact sports such as handball or martial arts for example, having gone through male puberty can definitely give a trans person a strength advantage.

Women's sports were only created cause there was an uproar against women winning competitions against men. This is kinda an important component in the conversation, why do sports need to be split at all? Or maybe they should be split up differently? Like based on height, weight and or muscle density? Cause gender is kinda a bad way of dividing sports, at least of your going for "fairness" but that also brings up the question, should games be fair? And how far are we going to draw that line? Why should intersex women, and cis woman with higher than average testosterone be punished? And they are btw, often being made to take hormone blockers.
      This is a complex topic, one that is and should be looked at in a bigger picture not just focusing on the tiny amount of trans people.

      I just wish that it wasn’t considered transphobic to say that it doesn’t make sense for trans people to compete in the opposite sex’s sports. Like, I understand that you don’t feel that you’re the gender you were assigned at birth. Gender dysphoria is very real. However, I don’t see how performing athletically alongside the gender you transitioned to makes sense in any way. You transitioned. You weren’t born as that gender. You don’t have any of the advantages or disadvantages that the other sex would have. You’re still in the body you perceive as being the incorrect one. I can get that maybe competing with them would feel wrong because you don’t feel like you align with them but at this point you’d have to be living in fantasy land to think that the playing field is in any way equal. No amount of hormone blockers in childhood or estrogen in their adulthood is going to make a trans woman any less athletic than her body she was assigned with allows her to be. Science just isn’t that far advanced yet. When we get to that point, I don’t see why there’d be any problem with it. We just aren’t there yet, though.

    Late to this vid but my opinion as a trans person is that trans people competing in sports can often be a case-by-case basis. I saw a story recently where a trans ftm high schooler who was on T was being forced to compete in wrestling with cis women, and was absolutely dominating it as a result. Ppl criticized him for playing w/ women however the law literally did not give him a choice, and he had expressed that he would rather compete in the men’s league. It’s a complicated issue and I don’t think there’s any single answer. Policing people’s bodies certainly isnt a great resolution to it.
    However I don’t think sports is like… a great comparison. A trans woman being selected to advertise a beer company isn’t is not as nearly as nuanced an issue as trans ppl in sports because her being born male doesn’t give her any sort of physical advantage. Like it’s not a physical competition. I actually really liked Budweiser’s ad campaign with her bc it was elevating a trans person publicly during a time where we’re being heavily scrutinized against. Its nice just seeing another trans person do their thing. Whatever you think about trans people in sports, Atwood’s comments were definitely derogatory and transphobic. I’m not tryin to be all “liberal special snowflake” or whatever, but he was deliberately misgender if her and acting as if a trans woman being successful and in the public eye should be an insult to women as a whole. Also him being like “use a woman who is cis, can have babies and raise a family” is off-putting to me because there is a VERY large demographic of cis women who do not fit that description. There is nothing shameful about being a transgender woman and I don’t like the way Atwood is insinuating that it is.
    Overall I think the point he’s trying to make is shoddy at best and pretty insulting to women as a whole at worst. A woman’s defining feature shouldn’t be her genitals or her ability to conceive and raise children or whatever. Literally no one’s worth or sense of self should be ever be limited to what they are physically capable of. Genuinely all we really want is live our lives and be treated basic human respect. Anyways, sorry for the long rant, if I came off like some 2015 sjw I just wanna say that wasn’t my intent. I’m sure Atwood’s a decent guy but he really doesn’t seem educated on the subject. his opinion just seems really shallow and un-empathetic. Hope he takes some time to reflect on his the matter and hopefully doesn’t let the Twitter mob taint his thoughts on trans people as a whole. I think just having an actual conversation w/ someone who’s trans could help his perspective a lot 👍

    Well it feels like old terf arguments. Only women are women who can bare children, have a period. That’s not a great argument. Especially with the comparison to black face. It feels like it puts trans in a cross hair when they just wanna exist. With trans in sports maybe not in a professional league. Maybe more nuanced would be depending on when they were able to do hormone therapy. I dunno. I don’t even know if college league really matters, it’s not like any athlete is getting paid anyways. I consider myself a fairly liberal person, but I also agree that trans people competing in cis gender sports can be extremely unfair and disruptive to the competition and should be considered on a case by case basis. For example, if there was a trans MTF athlete who had transitioned very young (before puberty) then I think they should be on a equal physiological ground as the other female athletes since they didn't get a chance to develop the higher bone density and muscle mass found with men. However, if this same athlete was only recently transitioned, and had trained for years as a male athlete, then absolutely not. They should not be allowed to compete with cis women. That's poposturous. However, since I think everything is super new in this regard, it's important to make these mistakes and have these conversations so we can improve sports inclusion and organization in the future.

While a man is typically at the top in every sport, if you look at each ndividual person, there’s many more female champions than their male counterparts. The men just make it to the top because of *their* biological advantages. Basically what I’m trying to say is that men are better at some things and women are better at some things. They can’t take each other’s places nor can they switch.

Also the concept of what masculinity versus femininity brings to sports. The first female sport was running which dates back to over 500,000 years. The shorter female leg allows the advantage for more steps and pushing cycles per unit during the acceleration phase of a race. Longer legs and greater muscularity become disadvantages in the face of women in the sport. It also has to do with muscular fatigue as men experience it much faster than women do.

    Since everyone is tossing their opinion in on the trans sports thing...
    I've seen the argument that trans women being in sports is fine as long as they aren't that strong compared to similar biological women in the sport so they don't completely dominate the sport. Although I agree on a practical level (i.e. that would indeed fix any issues of trans people dominating sports), I think it also loses sight of the goal of having women's sports in the first place.
    You could, if you wanted to, have a league of women and men who aren't as physically strong. They'd probably be on a similar level, so why don't we have that? It's simple, it's about finding the peak of women's ability, not about creating a separate league of people are less physically strong than the strongest men.
    Given that's the case, trans women, even debuffed by hormones, aren't achieving this goal. You're going to be finding the best men debuffed by hormones, not the best women (biologically).

    I believe the more insidious purpose of this goal(which most proponents don't consider or realize)isn't inclusion but the removal of gendered spaces to further muddle the line between man and woman and the concept of sex. At least in the wider scope of society.

    "There must be a small change that would create gender parity" - spoken by a man that doesn't think before he speaks. Did he expect the answer to be something like "just make the field smaller" or "make the hoop lower"? If men have an advantage in height, muscle/bone density and running/jumping/strength activities, why would there be a simple change to account for that? If the field was smaller, men would still run faster. If the hoop was lower, men would still have a height/jump advantage. If you lower the weight of the shotput, men will still throw it further.
