How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

I was born about 35 miles south of Decatur in Pana IL. My grandparents had a farm there. I loved staying on my grandpa's farm when I was a kid as I was raised in Rockford IL,so it was really great to visit my grandparents farm as a kid for a month each summer. He was a dairy farmer until the late 70's and & he sold the farm. I always think of my grandpa milking when Travis talks about you guys milking with your grandpa. The technology in farming today is a whole different world than the one my dad & grandpa lived in.
That look you gave us when the display fell down was priceless. LOL

If you ever get the chance to drive a Fendt you won’t want to give it back, I’m a Deere bloke, grown up with them and would still always be glad to have one (with the exception of a 6R at the moment, heard many horror stories about them) but the Fendt is in another class, very easy machines to drive, very reliable and at least in what I’ve had the opportunity to run the best machines on fuel out there. I’ve had a 720 on a 4 bottom plow, the Massey 7718 S my boss has at the moment chews about 30-32 litres an hour pulling it at 10km/h, the 720 on the same plow at the same speed sits around 21-23 litres an hour.
That New Holland monitor bit was the greatest moment ever. Every time you touch someone else’s stuff it will invariably break. Never fails.
Your videos never cease to amaze me, well done man keep up with these great videos and i hope you and all the other farmers who donate their time to us, the community to give us a glimpse of what life is like for them, Great job👍

Funny how everybody still calls them Cat Challengers Even though they haven't been part of Cat since the early 2000's.
Hence why Claas went to their true colors, they cringe when people call them Cat combines. Even though the only thing Cat about them in the past was the engines and a marketing agreement.
Zero01k aye but it makes stuff sell Americans know cat so would be more likely to buy something branded cat as a-posse to Claas
I feel like it isn't going to make a difference, most still know it's a Lexion and the quality of the product, the color isn't going to change much in this regard. I ain't the "combine needs to match my tractor" type of person so personally color doesn't matter much to me. And you see a lot of guys these days agree with that. It's more of a dealer/parts availability than color these days.
Ryan, i live in Springfield, IL and believe me everyone in the state of Killinois are always in a freakin hurry no matter what the conditions are.

Glad you were able to make it to the show this year. When I went last year to the one in Boone, IA I didn't take a lot of time to look at most of the displays or equipment (lack of need played a big part in that decision). It's nice that you were able to get out and see so much of it yourself this time and not be shut down by the weather. Thanks for the video, as always.
I'm not a fanboy of any particular colour. Got a JD baler, Silver combine, some Massey tractors (and an original Grey Fergie), Green and orange (Amazone) tillage, but get a Fendt tractor and you'll never look back. It's one of those machines that is good at everything you throw at it with great fuel economy. Worth the extra money because it has few options...it has everything...and I use all of it. Mind you, that JCB tractor looks like it could give Fendt a run for its money in the versatility stakes. Cheers from Oz.

Another great video, for a city guy like me it's so great to see the variety of tractors and makes. Just looking at the size of some of these animals is mind blowing. A great part at around 18;40 when you're in the tractor and staring at the key going back and forth, great shot.

The Case Optum is build (mostly) same as the t7.315 that you had demoed on your farm a few years ago. There will be soon the updated MAgnum that will look similar to the T8 Genesis.
It would be cool to get to drive every model of tractor!

I would not say fendt is the jd for europe. Here in norway there is quite a bit fendt, but more on construction companies, larger farms and contract farms. On our farm we have 5 fendts. Fendts is known as great quality, but a bit more expensive then other brands. The most sold tractors here in norway are MF, JD, Valtra and then Fendt is on 4
I wish people in North America would realize how good a tractor the MF are. There's a reason why they are the #1 seller in Europe.
Zimmerman Service well yeah its a good tractor. But i would not say its miles better then any other tractor. I have tried pretty much every large tractor brand, and for me Fendt has been the best tractor for 15 years. With the new model im not so sure, now i might think the john deere is ahead. But it really does not matter what is the best, because there is issues with every brand. You go with the tractor where you get the best service. For us that is MF and Fendt, we run a large operation and need 24/7 support. But that said we are getting 3 john deere for demo next week so im looking forward for that
@@ronkeking97 I guess I meant that if people compared dollar for dollar MF is a really good tractor at a great price. Yes they all have problems. Service is key. In North America most people are blinded by their jd green glasses, and won't even consider anything else. We run 3 large MF and they have been great for us.
Zimmerman Service in the past its been fendt for us, yes you pay a larger price but the tractors has pretty much runned with no problems at all. We are in a phase where we right now are getting rid of our ferguson. I am not a fan of their new series tractors at all, we bought 4 new Mf last year and now we are trading them all
@@ronkeking97 hmm... The exact opposite here. Our Agco dealer did 17 engine replacements last year in the Fendt 900 series. None in the MF and Challenger. While the rest of the tractor might be superior, the Agco power engine in the MF is better than the deutz in the Fendt

Fastrac's are quite popular in continental Europe. Especially in road service operators - just like he mentioned, it's great machine for snow ploughing. I had one for 5 years with demount sprayer. While tractor was fine machine pump in sprayer was very faulty. So I did good deal selling it and buying proper self-propelled sprayer from french Hardi instead.

Nice to see fans recognize you checking out the equipment.Just be sure to demo a tractor before buying is all I can say other than to give you some critical info on the John Deere 6 series tractors. Western tractor and truck repair out of Southern Oregon works on the tractors from very large California strawberry farms who run about 15 tractors working about 15,000 acres.Check out his vlog. He is an exceptional mechanic with extensive experience repairing a lot of their equipment.Just check him out to learn more of his opinion of the 6r series of John Deere tractors. We have a fendt 716 vario they’re good tractors apart from the adblue we had a problem where the tube that leads to the adblue pump blocked and the pump didn’t turn off so the pump burnt out and we had to buy a whole brand new pump
