    Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
    It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
    We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

    I think you'd be better off trading the 30' draper and the 8 row head for a normal 45' draper. I agree with the other guy who said your flat ground doesnt allow you to utilize the flex of a hinged draper. Run the 35' on the S670 and you can run the 12 row on rhe S670 if the X9 goes down.

    Hey Andy, listening to you analyse the combine trade vs keep deal was interesting. Back when I was young I had a great "Mentor" or as we called them "Rabbi" when I first started out at The Chicago Board of Trade. The years and years of accumulated knowledge these guys had is worth more than any amount of money. They often times dropped hints that were worth so much. I have to imagine your dad, "The Boss" is like these guys were to me. All his years of hands on actual farming and making the important decisions are so valuable. When I'd sit and have lunch with my mentors we'd discuss everything about the business. Being young and kind of a rebel, I'd think to myself, I can do it differently and come out even better. If that worked, it was always a short term win and never a long term deal. The old guys always proved to be right at the end of the day. All my mentors through the years are now long since gone. I still recall so many priceless moments with them and I'm so grateful that I was on the receiving end of their generosity. By generosity, I mean them sharing their knowledge with a young kid like I was. When I turned into the old guy, I knew the best thing I could do for the young guys coming up was just to pay it forward. I just passed on what they taught me and a few things I'd learned over my many years on several different trading floors. Your dad is the man making the tough calls in this stressful market. He's teaching you without acting like a teacher. You're lucky to have him. One day you'll be making the tough calls and passing on your knowledge to Lenny and your nieces and nephews. The family farm is a beautiful thing. I love your commentary in these videos. Here's to a great harvest for the family. Cheers from north of you.

    Wondering what you think Andy. Brian Brown’s family traded 2 combines for 1 large one. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out logistically. They got a Fendt. Idk if Fendt provides a loaner, like Case IH does, if a new combine breaks down. I’d think a breakdown would be the biggest issue with only running 1. They’re able to cut a lot faster with a larger head. In their case, they wasted a lot of time having to leave a combine in the field to haul grain with primarily 3 ppl working.

    If I'm not mistaken, I believe you said that your father-in-law runs an X9 1100. Obviously, I have no idea what he traded out of, if he went from two combines to one, or whatever, but I'm assuming that he's given
    you some insight about whether that was a decision that he'd make again, given the chance to go back and do it again? What - if any - changes that were required as far as grain carts and trucking., etc.... If you decide to get the x9, does that make Katie a grain cart operator/truck driver, or is Marty going to step back and take it easy at harvest time?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They went from a 790 to an X9 1100. They also have a smaller combine like us for soybeans. Their first one last year was a flawless machine that would blow the doors off of a 790, and they traded into another new one this year. As you indicated, they can pick a lot of corn, which will only be an issue for us if we are hauling farther away. I can keep both of our older machines moving in 240+ bushel corn hauling in home. If we get far away from home, we will have to have more dedicated trucking available. I can drive a truck or run the cart. It's just a matter of what Dad and Katie decide to do.

Me, well, I was able to get a start in farming by buying land that was less valuable due to hills. I’ve picked up a lot of ground that has better terrain, faster speeds would work, but factor in the organic no till, I could never get enough forward speed going to work the back end. I have to laugh…. If I could get a 9500-9610 to lift a 40’ header, I’d still be using them.

      I don't think we will know what the right move will be for a few years. Those older combines are highly regarded for a reason... they just flat out work!

    • @aTrippyFarmer

      I don't have a professional opinion. Our logic was always to get any excess moisture out before the busy season, which is the fall for combines.

    How can an operator justify the depreciation and only use a machine for 1 year / 400 hr?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The operators that rolled these machines probably got traded out before the market crashed. They didn't lose anything on this one. Unfortunately, dealers will not want to trade next year because they can't move the used inventory. If you are farming enough acres, these combines pencil the same or even better than the smaller counterparts.

      @@robertvruwink2654 usually jd has better rates

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It depends on the farmer and the incentives offered. Typically, Deere has financing programs that are below the market rate, especially if they are aggressively trying to move inventory. Some farmers might opt to finance something, others have the cash to do it outright, and quite a few use lease programs.

      If we can keep a 780 and 670 running in 200+ bushel corn around home, I think we will do just fine with 1 X9 1000. It should pick less corn than those two combines. Once we get away from the home area, trucking may be an issue.

    Its all well and good buying a bigger combine, but if your storage system is NOT upgraded in line, what's the point? Do you like waiting at the end for an empty truck? Maybe you still have money to burn. Please, I am not trying to be negative, but the whole system needs an overhaul if you want the benefit of extra capacity. Been there done that!!

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We already run two combines in corn that pick more than one X9, so if we went to mostly just 1 machine in corn, we would actually be better off from a labor/logistics perspective.
