There’s no doubt that DeepSeek has changed the landscape for large language models. The Chinese company’s cut-price consumer interface, sent tech stocks tumbling, and seemed to narrow the perceived assumption that US companies were way out in front of the global competition.

Gawdat is an Egyptian entrepreneur who worked at Microsoft and became chief business officer of Google X before his life was turned around by the death of his son, Ali.
