As a fan and as an editor, in the sense of being a vtuber clipper, I cannot stress how much of an importance is for your tip about reusing assets at 11:57 - 13:33 is. The amount of time saved up when fulfilling a certain deadline is highly important. Especially when you're making thumbnails on top of editing. 😅

Being a viewer since some time around 2019 I remember when you posted that you got "possibly the best job ever" and what it turned out to be. I was so happy for you back then, and everytime I see one of your thumbs on their channels I just go "hey, that one's hers!" and it brings back awesome memories from watching your playthroughs during these years. Awesome video and really, really useful tips. They were definitely well aimed at the thumbnail art market, but you can definitely take a lot of these advices for art commission work in general too. Personally I charge $50 minimum, but some people go as high as $100 or more, depending on the complexity of the subject, and the timeframe they have to finish it in.

Welcome! :D First off: Coloring in characters with one basic color helps to block out the silhouettes and get a clear perspective on things like how much of the thumbnail they take up, if they're overlapping too much, whether their features can be clearly made out, etc. If the art looks good in just one color, chances are it'll look even better with more colors! And second!: There's many different ways to become a thumbnail artist. I started out just responding to people who needed artists for various projects on Twitter and Insta, and things kind of fell into place from there. But the baseline is to just start drawing! Experiment! Get some experience under your belt and go at it!
I got no experience what-so-ever with drawing and stuff. where would a complete noob should start or how to learn? trying to learn to make own custom thumbnails and not be limited with just whatever generic photo I can get online.

I use Clip Studio Paint for all my thumbnail work, and a Wacom Intuos tablet to draw!

How much does it usually cost like making youtube thumbnails in that kind of quality? Especially illustrating it digitally.
For me, I usually charge my clients fifty bucks minimum per thumbnail. Maybe more, depending on the # of fancy details or if it’s a day-of request.
