That was some kind of run through. I noticed a lot of Zpacks and cuben fiber. It is good kit and light. I can see why you use it. +Mountain Venture Thanks for the feed back yeah how things change , i spent most my life manager of hotels and divecentres . the studio appartment that i was renting just got rid of there manager as she was useless , the owner asked me if i could take over all the appartments .. and help him .. so bike tour on hold i still get out and do over night camping in the jungles so i post in a few weeks once every thing running well here... ps if your ever cycling through vietnam i doing a special for bikepackers 50% daily room rate only $12 a day or $200 amonth
One of the best gear list overviews I've seen so far. Not even heard of half the brands mentioned here, all looks top quality kit. Personally I'd never swap a tent for any other type of shelter but a hammock would be the better choice in hotter climates.
Yeah your right Hammock is a great choice for warmer climates but you can also take it down to -40 with the right under quilt. one thing the hammock completely fail is above tree line ... i do have a cool tarptent.com but i looking into the new free lite 1 from MSR.. as it freestanding .... thanks for watching i check out few of your videos too
You have allot of nice gear, and maybe a bit over budget for most I would guess ? How does the Macbook Air 11 inch work with edit gopro 4k for you ? does it lag allot when you are editing, viewing previews etc ? Subscribing to your channel, I have never been camping, just hoping for a guesthouse :) but want to change that ...
You probably don't need so many clothes. I have been wearing the same clothes for over a month and stink, but they stay on. The more important thing is to have a nice sewing kit for rips, such as the Speedy Stitcher.
Love your videos. I ended up going with the Cannondale Trail 7. Is there any possibility of you posting a video for cheaper alternatives? Keep up the videos. Your videos and a few other bikepackers here on TH-cam have really inspired me a lot!
+Derpiest Deeper My first bike was Cannondale Trail 5 before getting this carbon fat bike. the Cannondale Trail 5 was a great bike did vietnam lao Thailand no one problem worked perfect ... you can cut cost on many things but the bike bags ... the rest you can .....example if you can ground sleep just tarp and bivy and air mattress and sleep bag ... still light enough ... thanks for watching
+Solo Bikepacker Sorry for late reply my beloved macbook air logic board decide to break just 1 month after warrenty expired .. my luck $500 bill which could easy let me stay in Vietnam for 2 more months .. I used the www.goalzero.com/p/79/guide-10-plus-solar-kit wheni first started it power my iphone and gopro and would power my ipad with power management it worked really well .. but did upgrade to the sherard 100 and 20 watt pannel by same company .. since i using macbook . hope that helps

+Peak District Hillbilly lol yeah used to work in Maldives 5 star resort managing Dive centre and free dive centre.. so had no bills free food drink and apartment that way every penny I made I saved for just gear.. i haven't work for over a year now .. it a life style choice living in the sun cheaply i went on a backpacking trip to the Greek islands for 2 weeks never went home now been living abroad for 26 years...
the kit and fat bike light in total 24 kgs about 19 km to 24 km per hour ... average day 120 km to 160 km ps now adding tent and mattress and pack raft and paddles for more adventures..
Nice equipment list! I need to do an updated video about mine.... I'm assuming all the prices you quoted are in $USD? Have you ever considered ditching the GoPro, hard drive, and laptop in favor of just your smartphone? I record, edit, and publish nearly all of my bikepacking videos with just my phone. Not having to carry all that other stuff really saves a lot of weight and bulk. There are some really good mobile app video editors nowadays! Cheers from Florida, USA
yeah thinking that now if i go rid off the laptop and the solar panel and solar battery i would save a lot of wright .. i did a trip before with just smart phone and iPad .. but found that the video editing was slow and my small solar 7 INCH wasn't really enough power .. now thinking of getting the iPhone 7 256gig and new dji but we see ..as i spent a lot already yes usa dollars
Solo Bikepacker Yes. The new DJI Mavic. I am watching it closely myself and think I will have to break out the credit card and get one of these. I have a Parrot Bebop drone but this new Mavic beats all. As for phones, I see that you use an iPhone... I know there are some good eidtors for iOs but I don't know how powerful of fast they are. I am an Android user myself (I use a Samsung Galaxy S5). For bikepacking + video purposes it is the best phone available for several reasons (I think I will make a video about this soon). Way better than iPhone or any other Android model in fact. I don't even own a GoPro (or other action cam). There are a lot of good editors for Android but Kinemaster is hands down the most feature packed and has the fastest encoding. It even encodes 1080p video faster than my Asus Windows 10 laptop... No lie! Not sure if Kinemaster is available for iOs though.... Anyway I have a solar panel as well, haven't used it much though. So far I've just been carrying additional 10,000mah USB charge packs (like 3 of them).

Parrot Bebop didn't originally have follow me features (which are very important for capturing self-made bikepacking footage!!!). But several 3rd party developers have released piloting apps (for iOS!!!) for the Bebop that have follow/ track modes. The best one is called Bebop Pro. It works quite well (I've tested nearly all of them). As for phones, I'd rate the Samsung Galaxy S5 at the top of the list: 1. It's waterproof; 2. It has a removeable battery; 3. It has expandable microSD storage 3. It has a dual camera mode (which only Samsung phones have). Both front & rear cameras record simultaneously to create side by side or picture in picture video.You can do a video update from the saddle, talking into the camera and get a shot of the road/ trail ahead a the same time. 4. Most Android phones support USB host, where iOs does not. So you can plug even more external storage, or even a PC Web cam into the phone's charge/data port like you would with a laptop. Next up would probably be the Galaxy S7. Still waterproof and has expandable storage but no user removable battery. And supposedly there's a recall on those with battery overheating issues. Lastly the Galaxy S4. Al of the above features but not waterproof. I wouldn't recommend the Galaxy S6... not waterproof, no removable battery, and no expandable storage. Not sure what Samsung was thinking with that one!
Hey how you doing?! I want to ask you something. What do you thing about cycling with a Carbon Fiber Bike? I have a Sars Demon Carbon, and i'm gonna put a trailer, just to don't use panniers. Some people told me that is possible that the carbon break, but i don't know if it's that easy... I know that the carbon is strong, but i don't ever see no one cycling with a carbon bike. What do you think??

That's one impressive list mate! I'm currently riding through central and south america and was curious to hear your thoughts on riding through sketchy areas with so much invested (and to an extent visible to people as you ride by). I definitely went the more budget version as the thought of some jackass pulling a gun and demanding all my stuff would crush me and I wouldn't be able to afford to replace what I have. On top of that when camping in some persons backyard I often leave the majority of my bulky items and just take a few key valuables if I'm going for a day ride. How do you go about managing these risks?
+Luke_Unlocked Thanks for the post ... cool your doing South America .. did that backpacking many years ago...many people ask the price when I ride through areas i tell them it just a cheap Chinese copy 100 bucks... also i am a big guy nobody really try anything found people to be nice...Plus i got a good gut feeling about people .. if i feel there up to something i just get in there face and tell them to fuck off.. but if we spent our time worrying about the risk we would never go anywhere... risk apart of the adventure which males it more fun ... not sure what i would do if my gear stolen .. probably cry then hunt them down and kill them

You seem to like black lol(I'm the same way) have you actually needed your down gear in Vietnam? I do Bikepacking in Canada and I don't quite carry as much warm kit. Great videos though. Keep on truckin'
+Jonas Rigaux no haven't used the down gear except the jacket on cooler nights.. but as this is a opened ended bike packing trip i am sure i use it when i get to colder countries. can't wait to ride in the snow... .. i just payed rent for 1 more month, now looking at places to go next thinking north or south

Ryan Tracy been on my way since last September. lol just taking a break in vietnam .. just took over the service apartments and giving deals for fellow cycles that our traveling through vietnam.. that i was staying in.... weight good but your right could cut down on things .. but like to keep all my gear with me .. been carbon save a lot of weight

Dam as much as that, don't tell the girlfriend she kill me. ps there also shipping and customs taxes not included i think about $1200 and about another $1500 in gear that failed before getting to this list.. just add new WG gimbal and new cooker and new guy lines from dutchware another $500 invested.
Madness but if it's your passion/hobby/healthy addiction.... Go for it! I'm up to about £2000 on my set up & that's with a 2nd hand regular 6061 ally MTB as the basis.... A lot of the gear shown here is not just bikepacking specific.
What, you only sprung 10 bucks for tent pegs?! I'm sure there are some titanium super light zpacks ones you could pick up for a reasonable 25 bucks each....

Bikepacking can be just a over nighter as well .... there many different kinds of trips ..and many ways to pack .. ps I am not wealthily just made a choice where to spend my money ...
You don't even need half this stuff and need only spend a fraction this guy has spent on kit. He has way too much stuff. And touring on that bike must be really exhausting as it is so cumbersome.

Thanks yeah the Zpacks bags are ok but just let you know there not 100% water proof after a few years using them
I'd imagine you have to weight the cost with the time spent in use. May still be very good. What are your thoughts? All the best.

I used the www.goalzero.com/p/79/guide-10-plus-solar-kit wheni first started it power my iphone and gopro and would power my ipad with power management it worked really well .. but did upgrade to the sherard 100 and 20 watt pannel by same company .. since i using macbook . hope that helps

+Peak District Hillbilly lol yeah used to work in Maldives 5 star resort managing Dive centre and free dive centre.. so had no bills free food drink and apartment that way every penny I made I saved for just gear.. i haven't work for over a year now .. it a life style choice living in the sun cheaply i went on a backpacking trip to the Greek islands for 2 weeks never went home now been living abroad for 26 years...

Out of curiosity what kind of speed to you average?
the kit and fat bike light in total 24 kgs about 19 km to 24 km per hour ... average day 120 km to 160 km ps now adding tent and mattress and pack raft and paddles for more adventures..

Have you ever considered ditching the GoPro, hard drive, and laptop in favor of just your smartphone? I record, edit, and publish nearly all of my bikepacking videos with just my phone. Not having to carry all that other stuff really saves a lot of weight and bulk. There are some really good mobile app video editors nowadays!

yeah thinking that now if i go rid off the laptop and the solar panel and solar battery i would save a lot of wright .. i did a trip before with just smart phone and iPad .. but found that the video editing was slow and my small solar 7 INCH wasn't really enough power .. now thinking of getting the iPhone 7 256gig and new dji but we see ..as i spent a lot already yes usa dollars
Solo Bikepacker Yes. The new DJI Mavic. I am watching it closely myself and think I will have to break out the credit card and get one of these. I have a Parrot Bebop drone but this new Mavic beats all. As for phones, I see that you use an iPhone... I know there are some good eidtors for iOs but I don't know how powerful of fast they are. I am an Android user myself (I use a Samsung Galaxy S5). For bikepacking + video purposes it is the best phone available for several reasons (I think I will make a video about this soon). Way better than iPhone or any other Android model in fact. I don't even own a GoPro (or other action cam). There are a lot of good editors for Android but Kinemaster is hands down the most feature packed and has the fastest encoding. It even encodes 1080p video faster than my Asus Windows 10 laptop... No lie! Not sure if Kinemaster is available for iOs though.... Anyway I have a solar panel as well, haven't used it much though. So far I've just been carrying additional 10,000mah USB charge packs (like 3 of them).

Parrot Bebop didn't originally have follow me features (which are very important for capturing self-made bikepacking footage!!!). But several 3rd party developers have released piloting apps (for iOS!!!) for the Bebop that have follow/ track modes. The best one is called Bebop Pro. It works quite well (I've tested nearly all of them). As for phones, I'd rate the Samsung Galaxy S5 at the top of the list:
1. It's waterproof;
2. It has a removeable battery;
3. It has expandable microSD storage
3. It has a dual camera mode (which only Samsung phones have). Both front & rear cameras record simultaneously to create side by side or picture in picture video.You can do a video update from the saddle, talking into the camera and get a shot of the road/ trail ahead a the same time.
4. Most Android phones support USB host, where iOs does not. So you can plug even more external storage, or even a PC Web cam into the phone's charge/data port like you would with a laptop.
Next up would probably be the Galaxy S7. Still waterproof and has expandable storage but no user removable battery. And supposedly there's a recall on those with battery overheating issues.
Lastly the Galaxy S4. Al of the above features but not waterproof.
I wouldn't recommend the Galaxy S6... not waterproof, no removable battery, and no expandable storage. Not sure what Samsung was thinking with that one!
The S5 has great Slow AND Fast motion video (fast looks like time lapse). There are some good 3rd party Time Laps apps available for Android as well.
Hey how you doing?! I want to ask you something. What do you thing about cycling with a Carbon Fiber Bike? I have a Sars Demon Carbon, and i'm gonna put a trailer, just to don't use panniers. Some people told me that is possible that the carbon break, but i don't know if it's that easy... I know that the carbon is strong, but i don't ever see no one cycling with a carbon bike. What do you think??

That's one impressive list mate! I'm currently riding through central and south america and was curious to hear your thoughts on riding through sketchy areas with so much invested (and to an extent visible to people as you ride by).
I definitely went the more budget version as the thought of some jackass pulling a gun and demanding all my stuff would crush me and I wouldn't be able to afford to replace what I have. On top of that when camping in some persons backyard I often leave the majority of my bulky items and just take a few key valuables if I'm going for a day ride. How do you go about managing these risks?
+Luke_Unlocked Thanks for the post ... cool your doing South America .. did that backpacking many years ago...many people ask the price when I ride through areas i tell them it just a cheap Chinese copy 100 bucks... also i am a big guy nobody really try anything found people to be nice...Plus i got a good gut feeling about people .. if i feel there up to something i just get in there face and tell them to fuck off.. but if we spent our time worrying about the risk we would never go anywhere... risk apart of the adventure which males it more fun ... not sure what i would do if my gear stolen .. probably cry then hunt them down and kill them

Ryan Tracy been on my way since last September. lol just taking a break in vietnam .. just took over the service apartments and giving deals for fellow cycles that our traveling through vietnam.. that i was staying in.... weight good but your right could cut down on things .. but like to keep all my gear with me .. been carbon save a lot of weight

Dam as much as that, don't tell the girlfriend she kill me. ps there also shipping and customs taxes not included i think about $1200 and about another $1500 in gear that failed before getting to this list.. just add new WG gimbal and new cooker and new guy lines from dutchware another $500 invested.
Madness but if it's your passion/hobby/healthy addiction.... Go for it! I'm up to about £2000 on my set up & that's with a 2nd hand regular 6061 ally MTB as the basis.... A lot of the gear shown here is not just bikepacking specific.

bike packing looks fun and rewarding.. but it appears to be a hobby for those with wealth and lots of time off from work... kind of like powerboating.
Bikepacking can be just a over nighter as well .... there many different kinds of trips ..and many ways to pack .. ps I am not wealthily just made a choice where to spend my money ...

You don't even need half this stuff and need only spend a fraction this guy has spent on kit. He has way too much stuff. And touring on that bike must be really exhausting as it is so cumbersome.
