it's simple. The amount of space your necessary equipment requires goes down at the same rate as the amount of money you're willing to spend on it goes up...
Finally someone who knows how to set up their brake levers for bikepacking and bike riding in general. Most people have ergo grips and run their brake levelrs almost perpendicular to the ground. Drives me insane. Your setup looks amazingly comfortable. AND YES! NOOO PADDED SHORTS AND NO CREAM. People dont understand that its important that your contact point to the saddle needs to say DRY! Padded shorts just keeps you wet and increases the friction. Baby powder works wonders!
Really great vid, thanks for taking the time to put together. I'm researching getting into bike packing and there were some nice ideas here 👌 much appreciated 👍
FYI with the Evernew if you put the pot directly on the stove, ie don't use the cross bars, and just use the outside ring of burner holes the stove is a bit more efficient ie it uses less alcohol to boil water.
Thanks for sharing ,,, and yes,,, most of us pack light on pedal bikes,,, if you end up in Alaska or in Siberia you'd most likely not like your set up... Bet 10 too Zero you'd be packing heavy threw out the year 450 kms north of the boreal forest... - 30 c with 60 kpr winds is a nice day up north... Light weight fat tire bike packing trip won't work for yha when the temps drop below - 60c with 100 to 120 kpr winds... Those of that do pack heavy wll survive because We { know } what's needed - 22c with 20 kpr winds today up here... Beautiful day for biking... Cheers all...
That's a nice set up so clean. I have the frame bags and it can get a little disorganized at times, and im afraid with all that weight on the frame it will bend as i have an aluminum frame opposed to my steel framed partner.
This is great! Really like the way you pack the 4 feedsacks on the handlebars and those socks?! I have to get me a pair of those. Can you really walk on rough terrain without damaging them?
youtube put you in the spam lol just found you yeah those socks way cool there find walking arround at camp and bouder climbing alot of people use them for running
Nice video. You have thought this out very well. Nothing like experience as a teacher. Don't forget to make an adventure down here in NZ. You can ride from the top of the country to the bottom along the national cycle trail route and you will not be disappointed.
What is your cook set I didn't understand what you called it what is your cookset and where did you get it where did you get everything in your Cooks at nice Sports spoon fork and all that stuff and your alternative cook source thank you
So you bikepacking in warm weather? that's cute... Jokes aside, it changes A LOT when you go in really wet/cold weather, as long as you use everything, and you can carry it, for me it's fine. Edit: That washbag though... And the thorough explanation, subscribed! cheers
Any info on your food/meal packing? I always struggle and was amazed that you fit all your meals in the stem bags. Like other comm enter I use 2 alpkit stem cells and dont think I could fit 2 days food into them. Some great ideas thanks
I should do a video here's a tip buy oatmeal and amzn.to/2JkwDUM and dehydrated lots of fruits banana mangos strawberries then mix on the trail you easily get 5 days worth in one pouch breakfast covered.. for main meals look at this concept www.harmonyhousefoods.com/hiking-food make it your self and mix on the trail. or buy from these guys
Nice video. I'm probably going 80% your setup for my first try in bike packing. I won't have the fuel/alcohol and probably not the extra handle bar as well as the scrubba. Going for a 3 day 300km trip here in Germany. I'm really interested in your sleep setup. It's probably the only thing I'm really lacking
Just getting into bikepacking but have been into backpacking for many years so that part transitions very well. Could you tell me more about your bike seat. I need something better. Great video!
Hey Im sure you love the Ergon grips, but SQLAB is also a german company that makes better ergo gear. Try their SQ LAB 710 Grips, they are much more ergonomic.
Thank you, quite a good video for being produced so on the fly. It might have been easier on you as well as viewers if you sat the camera some place and emptied out your bags with both hands. Also, as I am preparing my first backpacking trip, I would have liked to see how all them bags mount on the bike, what keeps the top tube bag from spinning off to the side. Thanks though, much appreciated.
My videos our just rough mate one take no editing but your right I just bought a tripod and new blogging camera but not sure if you want to see my ugly face in the videos lol I might lose subscribers lol
Great setup! No lights or reflectors other than headlamp? Also, wouldn't the cooking kit be better protected if it were hanging towards the center? Thanks for the vid!
good point on the cook set i move it closed to the centre Iam not much of a night rider but getting into it got new video working on it will have the best lights on the bike
am doing a my first bike back packing in Swanage, UK, do you reckon taking a self inflatable mattres unnecessary? we planning to camp at a camp sit, flat ground. still deciding if i should leave that behind
This is an awesome rig & some fantastic kit but there’s so much bullcrap you can get rid of. I suggest you find a super ultralight thru hiker to brutally shake you down. Watching this was so painful because I could count at least 800g of bs you can get rid of.
they were better for sure but took long time to get used to them had to keep looking down at my feet to make sure my foot was more centre.. i cycle across austrilia with them but i give them to matt he cycling arround the world he loves them
Good stuff. I'm looking into getting into bike packing. I road bike and backpack now, just makes sense. Thanks for the videos. Any recommendations on the type of bike to get? I ride a cervelo RS on the road with Sram Force components. See a lot of fat bikes and gravel style bikes set up for bike packing. I guess it depends on the terrain you plan to ride mostly.
Yeah recently discovered it myself, someone told me it damaged his bottle. Although it's written in msr faq. Cant paste the link here for some reason but google alcohol msr bottle andit will come up.
The buriak the guy that made that or whatever is he from Alaska? And you have a link to be able to buy that cuz I guess I'm going question I just asked it all in this one message. If I live in Maine okay so with that being said can you try to do a video on a four season set up can I plan on going on the road full time only in the US so I'm just wondering cuz I don't know anything about this I've never done bikepacking or anything so any help you could share I would certainly appreciate it as well as many others I'm sure so a four-season set up what would you how would you set that up in the bar react can you share a link to where I can find it I had that guy's phone number at one point and I lost it so I thought he was from Alaska thanks a lot I really enjoy your videos
Is that a rottweiler?! I love rotties!!!! The best breed ever! Sounds like you're Irish by accent though? Unfortunately law states they're horrible vicious dangerous dogs which is of course all wrong. My Kai was actually a celebrity when we visited Dingle, he loved it and everyone loved him! Didn't really need the muzzle and I was almost refusing to use it (bring him out in public places off the lead) Also this is a really good walkthrough, thanks haha. You have great kit!! And the washbag is an amazing idea for washing kit. I don't understand what you meant by it helping to bring less things or travel lighter?
I thought it was a rot but funny after she got into our home she dint grow much bigger she still the same size after 1 year .. lol a little rat is bigger lol
Great set up you have mate the x4 small bags you have up front. I'm used to calling them stem bags. I use x2 from Alpkit yours look nice though what brand are those?

Great ,no nonsense practical guide for serious bikepacking. Some interesting gadgets.
GREAT VIDEO W/EXCELLENT detail... thanks!
I'm just sceptical of the " it carry up to 5 days worth of food"... you must not eat much. but other than that awesome set up! i agree less is more!
yeah not much of eater but my mate pavel packs the same and he eats like a horse
very interesting...
i love minimalistic bike-touring!
Looking forward to se you on tour...

Great to hear the feedback from someone who puts the gear to the test! Love the "scubba-bag" concept! Nice setup! Cheers!

Add a frame bag and eliminate all the top weight to center. Would free up your bars a bit.

Amazing setup. Have a good ride!
Terrific setup, I'm hoping to do something similar, might try and use triathlon bars instead of a baryak though, thanks for this!
I did use triathlon bars at the start but didn't have the strength to hold my gear kept moving

Do you know of any way to mount Feed Bags to Butterfly handle bars?...
no idea sorry
Nothing you can't sort with enough velcro straps.
I have that same top-quilt. Its got a good 3000 miles of hiking on it and another 2000 of bike touring. It's probably going to last you.
I got it in 2012 there a very good company lasted years
You can easily damage msr fuel bottles if you store alcohol in them.
Thanks i didn't know that been storing only alchol in them for 4 years
