I remember playing the normal elevator on roblox with my siblings like a decade ago, I didn't experience the original thing but I experienced what came after it.
GMOD takes me back to the Golden era of gaming. I miss playing this in 2007. Learning the wire mod, building contraptions to drag into rp servers and cause havoc, and watching movies fully captured in GMOD on Machinima were the best days ever. If you haven't seen War Of The Servers, it's worth falling into a nostalgia hole to watch.

Garry's Mod is irreplaceable. No other game screams Gmod so loud, other than the very game itself. The very stable play count over the years is a testament thereto. There simply is no other game that can do what this game can.
Its insane to think how the gmod community is still in okay shape bustling with players to this very day, ive been playing GMOD since 2015 and always thought I missed everything, im honestly suprised that I still played GMOD through major events in this community such as the infamous Glue Library incident I was lucky enough to miss out on (because I didnt have any infected addons installed).
I was 10 years old when Gmod 0.7 was released. I wish the video talked more about the building side of things, cause it's a whole other rabbit-hole. Back in the day my favorite thing was "wood wars", where players would cobble together wooden boxes, pallets and planks into something that'd function vaguely like a combat vehicle - using prop spawners and ent_fire commands to ignite and launch explosive propane cannisters from barrels made of wood planks, and attempting to blast one another to bits. Beyond that you had people making big space cruisers from combine razor trains and barricade props; race cars made from oil barrels and bath-tubs, you name it - someone had even made a functioning, wooden Vulture from Mechwarrior using a copious amount of hydraulic and elastic constraints. As the game and its addons came further along, with things like Wiremod/E2, Fin tool, Gcombat then its successor ACF, this side of Gmod became simultaneously more complex, and less accessible. At this point you can make practically anything so long as you have the patience and willingness to learn, with fully-simulated terminal ballistics, complex engine and gear systems, proper steering and suspension, swashplates for helicopters etc. It was really special to me and it's kinda sad to see it all sidelined in the public consciousness in favor of things like DarkRP and TTT.
I currently have 1500 hours in GMod, a vast majority of that was single player, I never had friends and my brother was the only other person I knew who played it. I'm too insecure to play the countless online modes and when I did I always felt...left out. So I created my own stories, the NPC's became my friends and the maps my world. You know Toy Story? It was like that. Even though I can't relate to the social aspects of Garry's Mod, I do have plenty of fond memories of it.
I started playing Gmod a REAL long time ago (2006) and honestly most if not all of the greatest/funniest gaming memories of my life happened on gmod. I miss playing GmSurvival, Space Build, DarkRp (before it was turned into paid script fest), Gm Tower, the list goes on... No game has even ever come close to fun. Joining a new Gmod server back in the day was like pulling a slot machine, you either found straight trash or a god tier server that would keep you playing for weeks/months. Hopefully S&Box can maintain the greatness that is/was Gmod at it's prime...

I have over 2,000+ hours each in Project Zomboid and Garry's Mod, both of which are 95% heavily fine tuned singleplayer sandbox heavens with years of tweaking. Project Zomboid I have set as an immersive story over multiple survivor's stories, their' struggles and inevitable deaths. On the other hand my Garry's Mod sandbox is a first person/third person horde/all out hl2 factional war between Combine, Zombies/Aliens, ???, and rebels; Of which I may choose my side and hell be a damn combine elite. It's beautiful, so much so that I very well may shed tears of joy and equal sorrow when Garry's Mod 2 releases, as it's predecessor will hand off the reigns to a new age. P.S.-Love the vid, you've got a new subscriber! Also yes I am biased in my love for Gmod and disdained distrust of most triple A studios after all of the half finished dumpster fires that have been released in the last decade or more.
The fact that garry's is a old game made on a older engine and have everything from realistic mods to Mario running away from nextbots and s&box is a new game made on a the newest engine and that means that they will have everything what I mean like a new game released it will be on s&box with all its details and graphics and it will be playable for the public for free will be insane
@@kel_skiwe don't know yet but I meant that garry's mod have everything and it so old and s&box is a upcoming game that means they will have every mod you can possibly think of (sorry for bad english)
The Source engine has not only been pushed to its very limits, but even far, FAR beyond what it claimed it can do. 'Mee' has made some incredible developments, essentially manipulating the engine to conform to his command. Note that his knowledge and dedication makes it look so easy
This was a fantastic video, as someone who has had been apart of gmod since 2009 it's been an amazing thing to play and develop in. While yes this game will eventually die, I think that the dedicated players will still stick to it even when S&Box comes out mainly for that old source feeling and the hl2 base assets. I do plan on buying S&Box when it releases (in 2030 or some shit), and as someone who like developing things I am excited to learn something else besides lua and be able to use a lot more features in the new source 2 engine.
S&ndbox isn’t garrysmod 2, it’s a game creator in which you can create garrys mod in, do a bit of research into it, it’s actually crazy how accessible it is to the average joe compared to any other engines like unreal/unity.
Someone actually managed to convert GM Construct and GM Big City into Fortnite (textures and everything) which is the closest console players will have to a GMod experience
7:55 the saddest story in Kelski History so far 9:09 ITS BACK! 16:42 was so waiting for this ngl i have been playing the half life series recently, the thing is, I played Garry's Mod years before ever starting with Half Life, so there are some voice lines I can't take serious because they remind me of Murder or DarkRP voice lines.😂
this vid is so fire, brought me back to when i'd fuck around on this game for SO long. the amount of time i spent just fuckin around on darkrp servers is insane plus that sponsor transition was one of the smoothest i ever seen
yooo what’s up llewop 🤝 thanks for the kind words man. yeah dude OG dark rp servers were so insanely goated. i remember how cool it was as a kid to have my first in game money printer lmao
Garry's mod was 100% more fun when people were actually playing the game and not just following a rule guideline. Also the pay to win stuff is getting out of hand.
Ah my childhood favorite I got 4k hours on it and I still don't know how to feel about it But thanks for covering it, I remembered some legendary moments
i honestly kinda think fornite creative 2.0 won't really reach that much appeal? and it especially won't win against roblox lol. biggest problem with fortnite creative is that you literally can't make copyrighted stuff (fnaf for example) and upload it. while in roblox you can and even still make money from it. fortnite loses both battles, against gmod and against roblox. against gmod it just can't compete of how many addons and such already exist, and you can really create what you want from other people, while in fortnite you are still confined to the singular place, no mix and matching afaik. and it's not even good for making real games, because why not just make an actual game with unreal engine? honestly i kinda thing fortnite creative 2.0 will fall flat.
Probably one of the game where I've spent most time. Mostly played perp rp, on multiple services. For me the RP was all about causing chaos, madness and making money and finding ways to exploit and bend the rules to maximize the impact of my actions. From being a corrupt cop to exploit people role playing as criminals. Be elected as president to opress and exploit people. Running a kidnap and robery gang to make money and kill people. Making so much meth at once that the server nearly crashed. And many other things I probably don't remember.
the only markable difference with gmod for me now is how some gamemodes just arent as popular as they used to be - even stuff like prop hunt has markedly less players. stuff like spacebuild barely even has servers now, and other unique gamemodes are left in the dust for darkrp. even tho theres definitely less players than there used to be, i dont think its gonna die any time soon anyway - its the option for people with shitty laptops and barely working pc setups, source kids/adults, and no limits on licensed characters and copyrighted stuff compared to more modern options
i think it’s hardcore fan base will remain solid, but the fact that it’s not free to play and is pretty dated in some aspects makes me feel it just won’t last much longer, especially with more and more stuff coming :(
Gmod was my first PC game. I spent way too many hours on it just messing with different maps and bots. I still come back to it to chill every now and then.
There was a phrase I had for "impostor" games that wasn't "impostor" but after hearing you call them that, I'm now physically incapable of thinking of the thing I used to call them. Like, I know I *did* call them something else but it's been wholly replaced by "impostor" and I'm so mad at you for doing this to me.
I will be playing Garry's mod till I'm in my grave. And even then, I will ask for terrible (or good) Wi-Fi and someone to pay electric bills in my will so I can play Garry's mod even when I'm dead.
*By the way, I would like to say that I invite you to pay homage to the great masters and players for those who have played Garry's mod since 2004 and those who cannot see it today.*
Great video, I’ve been thinking about getting it for the longest time since I love sandbox games, but this would by far be THE most sandbox game I’ve played lol. Seriously though you managed to hit my nostalgia feels for GMod and I haven’t ever booted it. Super enjoyed this video 🤍
As an admin on Best Serious Roleplay in the late 2000's and early 2010's, I miss the excitement of your server dev coming out with new tools for the server and fun event ideas. I miss the map changes and the base building and the cringe screaming. Ahhh. Simpler times.
I miss playing stuff like Hidden, Minigame, Prison escape and Purge (NOT RP) on gmod. It was so much fun, back when all the youtubers were playing it, the player base was MASSIVE, there were so many game modes. Nowadays i get bored easily, its mostly just Tourble in TT, Prop hunt or Dark RP that are going strong.
I do enjoy DarkRP. Probably my favourite mode. But it's gotten to a point where there isn't a single flood server for me to join, such a gmod classic that I've always enjoyed playing every now and again.
God I have so many good GMod memories. From playing MilitaryRP in middle school as a big juggernaut merc, to my many years of serious HaloRP, and even just messing around in maps solo. I remember the Cinema maps where you could go in and use another addon to play full videos if you had a youtube link. But Gmod is likely to start losing players in the next few years because one reason Gmod got big (outside of SFM) was because of content creators. VanossGaming, Seananners, Jacksepticeye, and Markiplier rarely play Gmod anymore or if they do, they are not as popular as they used to be. As long as Facepunch keeps the lights on so to speak with Garry’s Mod I doubt itll fully die off, but I wouldnt be surprised if it starts to lose hundreds or thousands of players in the coming years.
I used to run a couple roleplay servers back in like 2011/2012 and played Dark RP regularly for maybe a total of a few years but in memory it all feels like I played for a decade. The friendships made and the moments I think about will always stick with me. I think the GTA RP thing was the closest gaming got to replicating the vibes, but the issue with online gaming right now is that everything is based on matchmaking, so it's hard to recapture this magic since most of us just stay in a discord with the people we already know. Dark RP on random servers was brilliant because you'd frequent the same servers and the same people and form bonds. I think s&box will replace the game pretty effectively considering how large the gmod playerbase still is and how fast word-of-mouth will spread to ditch gmod for s&box (on top of all the 20-somethings like us that will use s&box as the opportunity to come back).
I never played any online garry's mod. But i spent a lot of time building stuff with the wire mod back in the day, before the workshop and when melon race was still a thing.
I still play Garry's mod zombie survival gamemode. Also DarkRP and Hide and Seek. However I just got myself the Valve Index and now i'm flying around like superman with the VR-mod for Gmod and it's awesome.
I remember being like 7 and asking my dad to get me Garry's mod, I never knew what Steam or anything computer related was and neither did my dad, all I did was watch people play it and I wanted to do that. One day my dad got home and managed to get it set up on some crappy PC and I still haven't stopped playing that to this day. Garry's Mod literally introduced me to playing on a computer and I loved it.

Trouble In Terroist Town will always be more fun than Among Us
I have over 2,000+ hours each in Project Zomboid and Garry's Mod, both of which are 95% heavily fine tuned singleplayer sandbox heavens with years of tweaking.
Its insane to think that Kelski has only 62k subs, with bombs that he drops with his entertaining videos
S&Box is going to be free? that’s huge
@@kel_skiwe don't know yet but I meant that garry's mod have everything and it so old and s&box is a upcoming game that means they will have every mod you can possibly think of
(sorry for bad english)
@@kel_skiand the meant free to public I meant the game not s&box
And I like the sausage model
S&ndbox isn’t garrysmod 2, it’s a game creator in which you can create garrys mod in, do a bit of research into it, it’s actually crazy how accessible it is to the average joe compared to any other engines like unreal/unity.
what keeps the game alive is the mods so pretty much I think garrys mod will NEVER die
you do have a good point
Someone actually managed to convert GM Construct and GM Big City into Fortnite (textures and everything) which is the closest console players will have to a GMod experience
7:55 the saddest story in Kelski History so far
9:09 ITS BACK!
16:42 was so waiting for this ngl
i have been playing the half life series recently, the thing is, I played Garry's Mod years before ever starting with Half Life, so there are some voice lines I can't take serious because they remind me of Murder or DarkRP voice lines.😂
i really need to play through the Half Life games
7:55 has deep rock music its amazing
this vid is so fire, brought me back to when i'd fuck around on this game for SO long. the amount of time i spent just fuckin around on darkrp servers is insane
plus that sponsor transition was one of the smoothest i ever seen
yooo what’s up llewop 🤝 thanks for the kind words man. yeah dude OG dark rp servers were so insanely goated. i remember how cool it was as a kid to have my first in game money printer lmao
Garry's mod was 100% more fun when people were actually playing the game and not just following a rule guideline. Also the pay to win stuff is getting out of hand.
RIGHT? and yeah most servers nowadays have so many paid restrictions:(
Why did bro jumpscare me with scott pilgrim
Surfshark vpn saved me from my parents realizing I've been watching femboy "videos" . Thank you kelski!!!
it’s REALLY good for that 🤝
What the fuck
bro ☠
Sadly it can't save you from the results of watching said videos.
@@josedorsaith5261 We welcome those "results" gladly.
it was over in 2012 when the last 3 gamemodes left were prop hunt, darkrp and ttt
only og players remember fretta
Ah my childhood favorite
I got 4k hours on it and I still don't know how to feel about it
But thanks for covering it, I remembered some legendary moments
it was one of the first PC games i ever played! love it to pieces
4:20 (nice) this is probably the most accurate explanation about the game i've ever heard
i honestly kinda think fornite creative 2.0 won't really reach that much appeal? and it especially won't win against roblox lol. biggest problem with fortnite creative is that you literally can't make copyrighted stuff (fnaf for example) and upload it. while in roblox you can and even still make money from it.
fortnite loses both battles, against gmod and against roblox. against gmod it just can't compete of how many addons and such already exist, and you can really create what you want from other people, while in fortnite you are still confined to the singular place, no mix and matching afaik.
and it's not even good for making real games, because why not just make an actual game with unreal engine? honestly i kinda thing fortnite creative 2.0 will fall flat.
i didn’t think about the copyright issues fortnite has, good point!
Maaaan I absolutely LOVED watching garrys mod, from people like vanossgaming, and still do.
Vanossgaming is the king of garry’s mod content
the only markable difference with gmod for me now is how some gamemodes just arent as popular as they used to be - even stuff like prop hunt has markedly less players. stuff like spacebuild barely even has servers now, and other unique gamemodes are left in the dust for darkrp. even tho theres definitely less players than there used to be, i dont think its gonna die any time soon anyway - its the option for people with shitty laptops and barely working pc setups, source kids/adults, and no limits on licensed characters and copyrighted stuff compared to more modern options
i think it’s hardcore fan base will remain solid, but the fact that it’s not free to play and is pretty dated in some aspects makes me feel it just won’t last much longer, especially with more and more stuff coming :(
Garry's Mod is still a great game to play with friends.
W Kelski video, and W AD Skit w/ Yogi. Also, Happy 40k!!!
can’t believe we are already there bro… just nuts. also W fletch comment
another banger keep up the great work
thank you for always watching keeno 🤝
Gmod was my first PC game. I spent way too many hours on it just messing with different maps and bots. I still come back to it to chill every now and then.
What's the music that plays at 7:47 ?
Edit - Nevermind I remembered, it's fathomless tomb from Deep Rock Galactic
deep rock galactic music >>>>
If 4Chan is the primordial soup of the internet, then Gary’s mod is the meteor that took out the fucking dinosaurs
i have so many memories watching venturiantale play this game with his siblings
he’s one of the ones i actually never watched. i was more of a Vanoss guy
Don’t worry because there will be new updates soon!
I mostly played on star wars RP but garrys mod is so fun just in general tho, and I met so many funny people and it was always entertaining.
star wars RP is always a classic!
Im french but It's a pleasure to see TH-camrs talking about this game which is gradually dying because the server is often too empty.
*By the way, I would like to say that I invite you to pay homage to the great masters and players for those who have played Garry's mod since 2004 and those who cannot see it today.*

@@kel_ski Really there is no joke brother.
15:05 DOOR IS STUCK!
Roblox is just gmod but for small children
lmao real
Fortnite: *tries to be digital version of playing with toys*
Gmod: *basically is that*
gmod is the goat

That fucking chase scene was GOLD
i was SWEATIN
then.... idk.... play it?
what?
@@WarHelmetCombine fym what
i spent a pretty decent chunk of my early teen years just playing Sandbox Gmod, and the snow sled map. was so fun
Just play it.
Great video, I’ve been thinking about getting it for the longest time since I love sandbox games, but this would by far be THE most sandbox game I’ve played lol. Seriously though you managed to hit my nostalgia feels for GMod and I haven’t ever booted it. Super enjoyed this video 🤍
then go play
i miss that too... once upon times i was playing private version garry's mod ( 13 ) in Med-2010's and Late-2010's
holy cheap i remember that version! good times
@@kel_ski yeah indeed is it. History cant be forgotten by Community, Players & Peoples.
that intro reminded me of funke's "i miss tf2"
Over all Garry's Mod has everything to be entertained
I spent the summer between middle and high school being an admin an a Garry's Mod DarkRP server, I miss those days.
Garry's Mod literally introduced me to playing on a computer and I loved it.
update as of 2024. Gmod is still alive and well. Plenty of darkrp servers over 80 pop
That was one of the best transition to a VPN ad i love it
