Introduction to Pastel Painting on Gray Paper

A time-lapse drawing demonstration of Mike using Rembrandt pastels on Strathmore "Storm Gray" charcoal paper. Mike's process includes starting with a linear structural drawing made with a 6B charcoal pencil, which is also shaded roughly to communicate the light source and general value placements. Finally, color is introduced first in areas with high intensity, such as the yellow plastic jug, as intense colors are less susceptible to color relativity than grays. The more intense reference points, are used to compare to nuanced colors that are mixed in later stages.
