  • We love our new "Battlecat" inflatable dinghy we bought from Pop Board Co (www.popboardco.com). The Hangkai 4-Stroke outboard motor we ordered from Amazon arrived completely broken, so we pivoted and bought a Torqueedo instead. What a great choice! It's a great companion to our inflatable dinghy, it silent, it's light and easy to transport.... We just unlocked summer fun in the marina!

    Hi, I have a 3.3m Inflatable Catamaran. Went this route as it's much easier to climb in at front from dive/swim, for both me & dog, + low weight for solo handling.
    Have an adaptor to inflate from compressor (dive hookah), however rarely deflate it, use it often enough, drying to avoid mould when folded is a PITA, I put it up front covered with shade cloth to better protect from UV.
    I power it with a Striker 24v 3 blade electric, equivalent to ~5hp (boat is also elec, so no gas onboard).
    All up cost me ~$1,500au (incl 24v lithium battery).

      Yes! The dogs and the dive were the big sell for us too. Can’t wait to actually test both out! Love your system and that it works. We’re crossing all fingers we have the same experience.

    Good choice on the electric. Quiet, light and no fumes. Enjoy!!!

      Everything is boating is a trade-off, but so far we are enjoying the Torqeedo.

    What a fun adventure. You never know till you try something if you’re going to like it. Looks like a fun ride around the Marina.

      We went out yesterday for a two hour motor all over the harbor, and it did really well!

    Awesome job guys I need to replace my 8’ rib I think that Cat is a good contender as my new tender for my sailboat, I like the fact it goes into a bag can’t do that with my Rib, and I can’t stop wearing my
    OE ball cap.

      They also make a traditional style dinghy with same inflatable tech that stores in a bag. We just liked the look of the Cat. :)

    I've met two cruisers now who both bought the Kiwi version of that cat both of them hate it, mainly because of water coming in through the transom and the tendency to submarine if you get off the power to quickly hope your one works out for you.

      Transom splash is an issue without skirts. Plenty of info on google to resolve it.
      Dolphining can happen if too much weight up front. Correctly balanced (like anything) even instant engine cut off isn't a problem with mine.
      There's videos showing these things being used in waves to pick up surfers in the front, other than what they brig in with them, no issues.

      @SeaGillian 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great call out on the dolphining- we didn’t experience it with stationary weight but perhaps with the doggos we’ll see more splash (which they will love 🙈). Does the Aussie version also have an inflatable floor or is it hard ridge?

      really, you're saying that have an open bow is going to be wet? I'm utterly shocked!

      @Lana_Warwick 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SeaGillian It's not Aussie made, not aware of any made outside of China, incl Highfield & TrueKit, both available direct from manufacture for much less $ (without name screen-printed).
      Inflatable floor, same concept as stand up paddleboards

    What happened to the petrol outboard.....other than it being damaged.....

      I've been fighting with Amazon seller. They wanted me to pay $250 to return it and then they would reimburse me. I didn't want put more good money after bad and waste more cash. They said they would send me a replacement part and I could fix it myself... What a bad experince so far. So it's still sitting in a box in my garage.

  • @jaysparc
    @jaysparc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That's a lousy design. Open bow on a dinghy? recipe for wet ride and potential boat full of water.

    • @SeaGillian
      @SeaGillian 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      💯 our first concern! Didn’t film it, but the team described the design and why we wouldn’t see that issue any more than water splashing over a typical dinghy. A lifetime ago, we had a 10’ (same size) Zodiac. So far, we haven’t seen a difference, even with more weight on the front. But we’re keeping an eye out for it and we’ll do a proper review after we run it through the summer season and when the “new and shiny” wears off!

    • @jaysparc
      @jaysparc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SeaGillian Tell you what, you take that out in 2-3' seas and tell me how dry it is. That answer was pure nonsense. Zodiac dinghies are used in ocean applications. When I see that video how you're high and dry in real conditions (not puttering around in an enclosed body of water) then I'll change my mind.

    • @Lana_Warwick
      @Lana_Warwick 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Obviously not speaking from experience Jay. Like a bullnose I can stay dry if I need to. However like anything, if it's overloaded or not inflated correctly.

      @@jaysparcalso a great call out is the application- fortunately (unfortunately?) we won’t be facing many swells hitting 2’. We dream of getting “out there” but our neighboring marinas in SoCal and local islands are very protected. Just like the boat, all about the uses!

      @@SeaGillian yeah, 6" waves are perfect for a Battlecat.
