  • A video of Engineer Pass from Ouray via Mineral Creek. This is one of my favorite roads in the San Juan Mtns. Mineral Creek is mostly rock until you reach the San Juan Chief Mill. Mineral Creek is the west access road to the Alpine Loop from Ouray, CO.
    I had a lens on my camera fog up due to temps and humidity, so the video switches to front bumper cam for a little while.
    This video is long, but it is in HD. Thank you for watching.

    Did this trail yesterday. Mineral Creek is a rugged trail, but so absolutely beautiful. It's one of my favorites near Ouray. Great video!!!

      Excellent! Glad you were able to use as a resource. We were planning on going back this year, but did Moab in March. Piggy bank is slow to fill back up ;-) Might be a year or two before we make it back to CO.

    Thanks! I wasn’t sure if my ford raptor could do this trail. I’m on 37” tires and have the shorter wheelbase extracab not the full four door so I’m feeling better about running this now.

      You'll do fine. I saw a full size ford on Maggie, the switch backs there are way tighter than mineral creek. You may have to do a few 2-3 points turns, but should be good.

    Good music to go with a great ride. I have to tell you that it looks frightening though, especially from about the 5 minute mark on for a couple minutes. I can only imagine how bad it would be in a heavy rain. I'd have to stop and wait for any rain to pass, that's for sure. I'm hoping seeing it in a video makes it look worse than it really is?

      Not sure if you could tell in the video, there was a Jeep stuck on a bad line in the switchback ahead. That red Jeep flew past me, pretty much brushed the white Jeep and went directly through the line of the Jeep trying to get moving and just kept on going, never slowed, never said anything, never sounded a horn, no warning at all. I don't care what your role is behind the wheel, placing others in danger is plain foolish. I reported his actions to the forest service and the county. And yes, it was very close. Thanks for watching!

    Sucks that A-Holes put graffiti all over the sign. I plan on doing the trail in August. Thank you for filming...

    Is this trail from engineers to Ouray

    How wide is this trail? I am running 38's on my 2 door jeep.

      You will be fine. There are only a couple of areas where water runs across the trail and eats at it. Just take it easy and be smart with your line choice. This trip was made with 83 inch wide stance - outside tire to outside tire.

      Videos make the trails look considerably more narrow than they are. 38's should be no problem.

    I've come down this trail from Engineer Pass to Ouray and it is tight. Luckily I didn't pass anyone along the way. Is this supposed to be a one way trail?

    • @Scotty_J.
      @Scotty_J. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No not one way. Uphill traffic has the right of way. It's not that difficult to find a pull off. If you're in one of the very narrow parts, just sort it out with the other drivers. For the most part, they've all been in that situation before.

    what camera do you use?

    • @markrickabaugh8512
      @markrickabaugh8512  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jade. I use either a GoPro 3 Black or GoPro 3+ Black. I shoot in 1080P, 60 frames, Medium width. The camera mounted to the front bumper is using a Manfrotto 035 Super Clamp. The driver view camera is attached to an A pillar light pod mount with just a screw and a wing nut.

      Sorry about that Ernie. You can always click the mute button and continue to watch with your favorite playlist in the background. The only other sounds on this video are my Jeep squeaking and the drone of the engine. Regards.
