- Welcome to another video! Today, We'll be taking a ride aboard Amtrak's flagship high-speed train and fastest train in North America, Acela, which travels along the Northeast Corridor between Boston, MA and Washington DC, Reaching speeds of up to 150mph. Our journey starts before dawn in New England's largest city, Boston, Massachusetts where we'll get onboard for our 3 1/2 hour ride down to New York City. Acela is Amtrak's premium service on the Northeast Corridor, so fares are generally more expensive than the Northeast Regional. Join me as I travel abroad Acela train 2151, Service from Boston's South Station to New York's Penn Station, with continued service to the nation's capital.

I like that they don't have blinding flourescent lights on full power overhead. The oil lobby has certainly ruined affordable rail transport in the US. We're told aging infrastructure prevents upgrading the rail system. How many billions was spent invading Afghanistan? We seemed to be able to do that fast enough. But addressing aging infrastructure remains too difficult. Please don't insult the average person's intelligence.

That's going to disappear once the new Avelia Liberty trainsets come on line.

There is an oli lobby, yes, and it has done some damage, but so has the airline lobby. Also, Americans-younger, _emoprogressive_ ones in particular- don't vote enough and when they do, instead of voting for the _realistic_ candidate(s) from the _realistic_ party that's the only one who can get into power and carry out what they want to see happen, they vote for the unrealistic candidate(s) from the fringe party that can't ever realistically get elected to Congress or to state legislatures, so nothing that they want to see happen (including the building of high-speed rail) happens. Americans that want to see the oil lobby and the airline lobby (as well as the automobile lobby-even _if_ it's building electric vehicles) be neutralized have to start organizing smartly and organize better, and also have to be _realistic_ about what can happen (politics is the art of the possible, and sometimes you have to compromise, because you can't get everything you want-but you can get what you need.)

That relates to what I said above about organizing better, and making your voice heard to your congressperson/senator so that if ever anybody tries to declare war on some country, said senator/congressperson will vote against it and make sure it doesn't get underway (you maay also have to form lobbies to get what you want as far as building improved railways and new infrastructure.)

Northeast Corridor from Boston to DC is nearly all electric; no diesel involved.
You can't invade Afghanistan by rail....

Acela is pretty awesome. Closest you get in the U.S. to European-style train travel. I think Amtrak should have gone Acela nationally, BUT the U.S. is SO FAR behind Europe in SO MANY ways as it is.
Acela was JUST in it's infancy when I started riding it in the Spring of 2000. I was in grad school at the time in New Haven and traveled home to NYC and to Boston frequently (although I have also ridden Acela to Philly, Baltimore & D.C. as well), and Acela is a WHOLE LOT faster than Metro North or the Northeast Regional EVER was.
That's quite scary because I even consider Europe far behind

Nice video. Next time, do first class and that is the top level and its little expensive but different point of view. I always love to travel on Acela but once they start the new trainsets, it'll be gamechanger for sure. Thanks for the video!

3:42 hrs. is a long time for that distance. Madrid to Valencia, in Spain, about the same distance, takes around
1:40 hrs on a real high speed train.
Acela is not high speed rail. Not even close. It’s also terribly bumpy on the way and the carriages are dirty and poorly maintained.

Have you rode the Port Jarvis Metro North Line to Hoboken NJ???
Travelling first timers with grandma who for sure will be tired. Same time of day, same destination. When should I make her stay awake for scenery and when can I let her sleep? I know it will be dark for a bit but dont want to miss out on anything...any suggestions?
We have to wait and sew how speed train go hire on the state. I am more than happy to fly Brigline or Amtrak. And the fact that both also go to Florida, make it even better! 100mpr is high speed fo me ! 🚄 Excellent video!

On this particular trip would you recommend sitting on the left or right side of the train for a better view?
Going Southbound the left side is preferable since you'll get some nice views of the Connecticut coastline.
I should like to visit NYC at some point, and the Acela seems like a more civilized way of doing so. Just thinking about how much of a hassle it is getting to the airport, through screening, etc etc ... I the trail that much slower, in total?
The train is a great way to travel stress free. As for speed, it depends where you are coming from. Its a great way to get from Boston to New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Outside the Northeast Corridor travel times can take a lot longer.
The people who were on the Acela sounded like they were sleeping

@@travelingadventureswithdan3181, that is why _you carry your own food_ that you've made beforehand or bought beforehand onboard (don't make or buy _any_ stinky food [hamburgers hot dogs, pizza, or anything else that will stink up the car], buy or make 'cold' food [pasta salad, salad, cold cut deli sandwiches, and/or cold submarine sandwiches.])

Yeah, It takes some getting used to especially if you're used to the open seating concept which has been used for years. I do like being able to choose my seat ahead of time though!
You can get good fares if you are flexible with times and book early enough.

i regret the $120 round trip to go to dc from philly when it was just $40 by bus, for the exact same time...
How is the ride? Does it constantly move? I'm a bit concerned about motion sickness and this is a long way.
The truth is that the acela may be the fastest train in America but, one of the slowest in the world. The United States of America is decades behind the far more advanced countries of the far east and Europe and many nations who are not as wealthy as the United States are already developing in these modern marvels of transportation. Till the United States of America wakes up and realizes the great benefits that comes with highspeed bullet train technology, we will continue to struggle with travel in this country they call mighty. High traffic volumes, along with the headaches of boarding a flight and the slow and lethargic american trains called Amtrak just dosent seem to serve us accurately. We need to invest greatly in something the mighty United States of America should of had decades ago inorder to greatly improve infrastructure and our travel abilities. Highspeed bullet trains and maglev super train technology, the new american dream....
@carlsmith5545, your bitching about what the USA does't have is just that; a lot of bitching about it without doing anything political about it. Instead of doing so, why not just enjoy this video and the trip shown on it, and (unless you're willing to do something politically about it) please consider quitting your bellyaching about the state of railways in the USA? It's getting tiresome.
