I cannot even imagine how much work putting out all of the lock down videos has been.
Your efforts are very much appreciated.
The closing remarks are spot on.
I am a woodworker, my wife is a knitter/quilter/crafty person.
We often joke about why buy something for $ when we can make it for $$$$$.
The only reason to make it yourself is because you want to and enjoy figuring out how to do it.
Plenty of people have inquired about having one of us make something for them, they totally balk at the price of the raw materials and forget about compensation for how much labor goes into something handmade.
Once again thank you for producing so much content for the world to enjoy.

For a large portion of my life I had a small interest in woodworking, my grandpa was an incredibly talented maker and he's why my interest grew. He made my grandma's beautiful dinner table, coffee table, the grandfather clock that scares the hell out of me at midnight and the shop he worked in for over 30 years. He and his father were in business together for most of his life and I got to experience so much of the work they did....the good, the bad and the....backwards. Something sparked in me in my late teens/early 20s. I loved to get in my head and figure out plans or just go at it. I'm a novice to say the least and unfortunately my Grandpa got sick before he had the chance to really teach me much.
Between my grandpa and TH-cam, I've learned so much. You were the first maker I had found online...Your tips on using certain tools or easier ways to do something or having a pretty inexpensive shop or some of the more simple things you made were great for me. On top of that stuff...your personality is fun, youre so comfortable talking to the camera and have been a pretty open person about some personal things. You're a human and it makes your videos great! You really aren't an ad pusher or algorithm fiend like other creators on TH-cam. I don't know why I felt compelled to go on this little tangent but.... I guess... Thanks for posting stuff, Steve. Lol.

You don't hide the mistakes, the ones everyone of us makes on every one of our projects. I feel as though I'm in the workshop with you, rather than watching in the audience. I hope you never change that part of your show, the ones we feel a part of. Thanks.

Steve I absolutely love your channel and on line courses. I have been watch your videos for YEARS and love them. When it comes to woodworking you and I think so much alike! I’m not a fancy woodworker with a lot of tools and expertise for build "fine" furniture. I’ll buy fine furniture when "upper management" dictates. I like making projects that look good, are functional and inexpensive. Your last course for organizing you workshop was SPLENDID. The Rio shelves, lumber storage shelf and the BMW plus were exactly what I needed, to solve the problem of having a garage that functions both as a workshop and garage. Living in Nebraska with its cold weather, my woodworking season is kind of short, but your ideas solved so many issues I was having. Thank you Steve, please don’t change, I think you talk to a lot of us who are "Weekend Woodworkers". A++

Steve, your dialogue at the end of the video was beautiful and it really resonated with me. Making things sometimes teaches us more about ourselves than it teaches us about wood working. Thank you for the second half of this video. I have been learning this hobby for a few years now. My first project was to put wood around some metal trellises for my wife, and I learned how to use a router from this quirky guy named Steve on that cold spring day. I have made a lot of projects since then, and am a member of all three of your classes.
What I really appreciated about your words in this video is the honesty. You admitted that there is a place for machine-made, store-bought furniture. And, you dispelled the myth that making it myself will be less expensive. (Especially when I account for the value of my time).

Thank you Steve for that beautiful monologue at the end of video. I started woodworking about a year ago and have only made a handful of items as I don't have a lot of time, am limited with space, and my wife has told me she doesn't like the noise. I have had recent woodworking (and personal) failures and have begun to wonder if I should continue with the hobby despite having bought so many tools already. Your speech spoke directly to me and has inspired me not to give up on my hobby. I am at peace when I woodwork (event through the frustrating mistakes) and although my wife doesn't like the noise, she never told me she doesn't want me to woodwork. Plus my little 11 year old daughter has asked me to build her items because she wants to learn from me as she is aspiring to be a construction worker/woodworker. Many years ago, you inspired me to start doing woodwork as a serious hobby. Since then I have made tons of things out of wood, including a series of folding tables out of oak after seeing one (and photographing it) in a holiday let in France. Although I enjoyed this video, oddly my favourite bit was your discourse at the end of the video on why we make stuff. You are 100% spot on. It's never cheaper to build yourself, but if you can look at that unique piece of furniture that perfectly matches the space, colour or function, or those new Garage doors and feel really proud of the fact you built them yourself when people comment on them, that is a great and satisfying sense of creating.... I sit behind a desk all day at work and spend time on the computer and talking mostly, so other than the weekend, I rarely get a chance to do something practical. Keep up the good work Steve....Keep inspiring me to do real woodwork safely. THANK YOU..

    Steve Ramsey.
Life Coach, Motivational Speaker, and Woodworker.
Steve, I absolutely love your talk at the end. It is that attitude and explanation that drew me into watching your videos in the first place. I can honestly say that when I started considering woodworking and my only tool was a circular saw, I was watching every video you put out and was hanging on every word of every episode.
You actually inspired me to make my first lap joints in 2x4's when I made a chicken coop in 2007 and that thing is still used and standing today.
If I am ever asked (and it has happened), what made me want to start woodworking? Your name is usually within the first 3 sentences out of my mouth.
Thank you for everything you offer. I am grateful.

There's a million woodworking channels out there, all great, but your general demeanor is what keeps me coming back here. Your'e peaceful reassuring, and accept mistakes. It's easy to see a how-to, bung something up, and think you can't do it. I've almost damned myself that way on a few projects when things didn't work out as expected. It's a lot more realistic to see things planned out as well as can be, find a problem in the actual creation, and simply have to solve it. Also, personally, I used sketchup for like 2 years and still watched and actually learned from your decade long video. It was as long as it had to be but concise, and a great introduction for anyone who was new to it. Keep shit up, you're doing a rad job.

Thank you so much for all you have done. Not just these past couple months, but prior to this as well.
I found your videos last fall. I was in the process of renovating a bedroom and started looking to TH-cam for help. I came across some of your older videos and started watching a few of them. You seemed like the kind of guy I could hang out with in the garage. Share some beers and stories. After the reno was done, I found myself still watching the videos. And since my hands were idle, I figured... why not give it a go? I would call myself a good woodworker. Hell, I dont know if I'd even call myself a woodworker. All I know is, i have found a new hobby that i cant stop thinking about. When I make a small (ugly) box for my daughter, the brightest smile shows on her face and it makes my week. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your teaching and inspiration! Keep up the great work!

I think Steve describes why we “woodwork” perfectly. I look around my home and I see some of the things I made, some up to 35 years ago. One of my favorites is the coffee table with the dents made by our kids banging their toys on the top, scratches left by various items being dragged across the surface and wear marks from the countless feet that family and friends have left resting their feet on the bottom rails. If it were flat pack it probably would be in landfill now. My favorite thing is making a gift for family and friends, it might seem something small but the love comes through by the work of our hands. Thank you Steve for your efforts to inspire others.

Great monologue Steve! I've been with you since the early days and have watched every video. I love your common sense approach to the hobby. I'm a dad who only gets a few hours in the shop but I really treasure time spent making things with my hands instead of typing. So while I'm on month seven of a dresser build, I'm still puttering along and enjoying it. It's therapeutic and I love walking through my house and remembering all the projects. Thank you for all the extra work you've been doing to pump out these extra videos!

    Hi Steve
Ryno here from South Africa. Just want to say that your lock-down videos are awesome. Every morning before I start work, I first have a cup of coffee and watch your latest video. Your channel is one of my favorites.
I must admit that I like the fact that you include your mistakes on these videos, instead of editing them out, as it helps me when I make mistakes to know that we all make them.
The reason I love woodworking is it gives me time to reflect and work through the day's emotions. I also love to create something out of nothing. To take pieces of wood and build something out of it is truly inspiring. But I'm new to woodworking and have learned a lot from your channel.
    Thanx

    Hi, Steve.
All this thinking you've done about woodworking and why it's becoming one of people's favorite hobbies is very assertive. I say this from experience. For a long time I was just a woodworker on TH-cam watching all your videos. Over time, I developed the willpower necessary to start producing some projects. I have been treated for depression for more than 12 years and I take a lot of medications. After I separated one of the rooms in my apartment to be my workshop and bought a couple of tools, things started to change. Today I have already managed to reduce the medications I take by 30%. I'm more balanced and calm. In the short time I have, I go to my workshop and try to do what is possible. Producing things with our own hands makes our brain realize that the capacity was stored somewhere and putting it into practice is a remedy for many ills in life. I don't have the skills to build furniture with the same standard of quality and perfection as the industries. But, I am very pleased when I can make and give a friend a coffee strainer holder as a gift. A bird feeder or support for my dog's dish that I make gives me great satisfaction. In fact, it would be cheaper and less hassle to buy these things. But, the satisfaction of thinking "I did it" is much greater. All of this, I must thank you and your videos that I have been watching for many years. Your joy and sympathy is contagious and motivates us to start moving and producing things. Furthermore, you are an excellent teacher. Thank you my friend.
