  • I'm working on my two large bonsai forests to get them pruned up before they go dormant for the winter. I'm hoping to get a nice photo of the Larch forest when it gets it's fall colours.
    Bonsai J comes for a visit to The Bonsai Zone, check out his TH-cam channel here....
    / @bonsaijcan
    The trees in the Avatar Grove are Eastern White Cedars or Thuja occidentalis.
    The Larches are North American Larch, Tamarack or Larix laricina.

    I can imagine just walking around in the forest listening to that sound track would be blissful, if only I was a borrower (tiny person ) and in the zone, that would be amazing. Until a giant pair of scissors comes along .... oh it's ok it's only Nigel doing a little pruning. I couldn't resist sorry just ment as a little fun. Great job Nigel

    I'm always happy when I see your Ficus elastica. Your old rubber tree, that sadly died, was like my start into bonsai.

    When we say Day off it means not working with regular works but actually we have a lot more work done 😃. Nice forest, love it. Planning to work in Canada by the way and hope to see you there and happy to assist you 😁. Enjoy your bonsai journey sir Nigel.

    The larch forest is a firm favorite of mine, I love seeing updates! My Mr 9 saw the Avatar grove at 22:40, and thought it was a full size forest - so that is a great endorsement. (As an Aussie kid, he has never seen a Canadian forest other than yours; one day if we are lucky . . .)

    You should get a big back tarp or something to put behind the larch forrest when you take the photograph.

  • @entyropy3262
    @entyropy3262 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder what exactly you try to achieve with this kind of pinching of the cedars ? It does not look like you are working towards a certain aim with it, or is your aim just to reduce the tree's overall vigor ? If so, why ?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The aim is to keep the trees to a compact size and select branches that look good. Why does it look like I'm not working towards a certain goal? That is what clip and grow bonsai is all about, you let the trees grow and then you prune them back, my goal is to achieve the natural look like the reference photos in t he video.

    If you didn’t want to take a picture of your larch forest, would it be better to prune after it has lost its needles?
