So, I'm not a gymnast, but everyone's talking about the trust the smaller woman has in the taller one, but it also requires trust from the taller one because the smaller one also controls the power and trajectory in the routine, if the smaller one moves wrong she won't be in the right place at the right time or won't stay centered and could send herself flying. It's a team effort not just the base.
my daughter was a flyer for 2 yrs. The athleticism of these gymnasts is way over the top. They work out hard, 5 or 6 days a week. My. daughter was solid muscle. I'd say they work out as hard as football players

I actually do this type of gymnastics it’s called acro. Im in a mixed pair which means the flyer (person flipping) is a girl and the base is a boy. We have a skill called pike front to wrap which you have to trust each other. I have to trust him to catch me so my head won’t hit the floor and my legs won’t hit his knees, while I have to make sure not to go forwards and push my shoulder back so he would be able to see and catch them. I also have to do the right shape for good rotation. So you’re absolutely correct that each person has to trust each other

"Beate Miller" If you think of it, it goes for circus stunts, all sports and athletics : In order for someone to pitch a ball so accurately, even with a curve, to a catcher, someone had to have gotten hit with the ball at times. For a motorcycle stunt driver to do wheelies, he had to have fallen off a lot of times. For pole vaulters to be able to pole vault they have had to fallen and gotten injured at times. etc.

I tell them… it’s not a question if, it’s when, and how hard 😂😂 Even before I rode I did gymnastics and trampoline jumping and I’ve hurt myself learning flips, but I land on my feet now for the most part if I get launched by a horse. 😂😂 The key is to start young enough so your bones are still flexible in your hardest crashes.
You train this on a belt first time, with the coach taking all the weight of the top. The belt is on a kind of pulley system that goes up to the ceiling & ropes come together down one wall. Also, there are 4+ moves in this set (depends on whether you count links as moves), you get bonus points for linking. Each move is learned separately before linking them together. Searching TH-cam for "dynamic routine sports acro" will throw up loads of acro.
"Brenna Petersen" That sounds tough to deal with. It sounds as if you have back issues well before the age of 50. But I would think you have shoulder issues.

I agree with the other reply. The smaller gymnast is definitely under 100 lbs. The taller gymnast still has to have great strength to do this still. You"re right.

This is acro! It’s not shown much in media and it’s not in the Olympics, so having this many people watch it is super awesome. I did this sport for ten years, I was the top and thrown around by two other girls. Def took lots of trust and teamwork. :)
I did Acro for a long time, was on the same team as some of the girls who represented team USA during some international meets. The base has to have just as much trust as the flyer. Both have to trust the other to do what they have been practicing and have to trust themselves in these skills.
When I cheered I was a flyer.. the amount of times I was dropped on every body part and had the wind knock out of me… I wish I had the trust in my stunt team like these two had lol

For every cool move like this, there had to have been a painful first attempt. And 1000 fails. Crazy when you think about it
