Thanks for the video, I have a suggestion for your game: You can add a breath bar like in Minecraft and it will decrease when you are in water and increase when you are in air. I think it will strengthen the loop.

Perhaps it's not so much when playing As for health, it sounds like you're on the right track. I'll suggest an healing item that can heal you over time, as a middle ground between the systems you discussed.

Due to the camera being so far out most of the different enemy types are hard to distinguish I think a way to fix this is to do what you had planned in one of the original iterations of your game with different enemies having different vibrant colors. I played game called Beacon. One cool and memorable feature it has was health pickups. Besides generic medkits there were all kinds of strange fruits and even insects and critters that restore health when eaten. The Void in your game sounds like an ecosystem, would be great if health boxes won't be the only source of healing
We are so back. Fantastic devlog! Also, it would be pretty cool to see a giant worm boss fight or enemy. It could force players to constantly transition between air and water to get away from it. Also, we need more giant worm propaganda.
Time to give scope creep. You said in void different species etc. so it would be cool to make enemies attack each other (your blue could make like green enemies and orange etc or the different tyoes of enemies attack each other. - the colour option allows allies and all blue good) As for health. Deathlink makes it so you have armour that regenerates like a resource but health never regens which could be interesting as your never weak but you could always be 1 shot. It would be cool if after a certain chunk of health you gain an effect. All things to experiment with

I likely won’t release the exact source code but a tutorial might be a good idea. Im gonna have to clean up the code a bit because at the moment it’s a bit of a mess…
