      Looks really badass to me. I'm kind of on the fence about the dyed woods myself, but I've considered using it for tip overlays on the bows that I make. Love that you left that aged patina look on it. Most guys restore old blades and axes, and shine them up like the bumper on a Cadillac. Lol

    I can assure you I’m a real guy. I love this cleaver. It was never going to be used. Slavik did a great job on it. The back of the blade was very sharp in places from beaing hit. So he made it smooth enough to not cut or scratch a cutting board if crushing garlic or nuts. Or the palm of your hand. Leaving the majority of the marks and dents. As I wanted. If you have any questions please contact me.

    • @taynio
      @taynio 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you request any specifics about the handle, or did Tely choose the colours and etc? Either way, it looks beautiful.

    • @MYBUGS
      @MYBUGS 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      taynio ask him not to polish it or grind it flat i wanted it sorta rough but no sharp edges on the top. I did want to leave it rough. But not unsafe. It had no handles on it already
      They were long ago rotted off. I ask him to just make it cool. And wow he did make it cool. Ive taken it to a few gun shows and could have sold it many times. Its not for sell. My grand daughter has claimed it for hers when im done with it.
      This guy has very little time and a very small space to work in and a full time job. To do this kind of work is unreal.
      The quality and fit of the handles are amazing. So are upset he signed it. But i feel its just the same as a watch maker putting his name in a watch he has repaired. Just one more part of this super nice cleavers history.

      pretty amusing the kind of comments you've gotten in here for reviving a scrap bin piece. i like that you asked for the dings to be left on the top, they look really cool against the smooth face on the interior. handle isn't my cup of tea but i appreciate the work in it and frankly, it's what you asked for so my opinion ain't worth a penny. only on youtube can trash be turned into treasure and someone still comes out the woodwork to run their mouth..

    • @perrodehont5109

      Well I came here because I saw a comment that Slavik left on some woodworking video. Just like I wrote in my comment of the first video I watched “yeah a knife (here cleaver) it’s a tool, however it’s also a art piece.

  • @johnklein4558
    @johnklein4558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I can’t believe people wrote some of the comments you read on part two.
    There’s no excuse for the language that one person used. I would ban that guy and other guy calling you a thief.
    Who the hell do they think they are ?
    You take your own time making beautiful functional blades AND you take the time to video them then make a mini movie with a soundtrack and post them here for all us amateurs to learn from. You take the time to show what materials you use and the process involved in getting the beautiful results on your blades.
    I say a heartfelt thank you.
    I wish you lived closer because I’d drive over and lend you my video camera so you wouldn’t have to spend the $ on a new one.
    Thanks Slavik. Because of you showing and sharing your tool choices and techniques I’ve started “altering” a blade for a friend.
    Thanks again and don’t let negative people get you down.

Great job of retaining much of its patina and personality while the clean up around the edges breathes new life. The cleaver maintains its identity and still shows the love given to it many years and generations later. Great job. 👍

    Hi Slavik, This is Dee, Joe’s wife. I gotta tell you , I really didn’t pay much attention to that old crappy cleaver we had, until Joe brought it back after you had restored it. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Joe had thrown it in his metal pile, and then told me I’ll bet Slavik, can do something with this, we love it. I don’t want to get into a pissing match here, however, this is a personal piece and what the public naysayers opinions are just really have no bearing on what My husband, Joe’s request to You were. Oh and by the way Joe is a real person, been married to him 30 years. Anyway, don’t want to get off track, Thank You, Slavik, the cleaver is truly Beautiful.

    So many trolls. I think you did a great job on the restoration from start to finish. People on the web have nothing better to do but bitch and complain. I only wish I was a fraction as good as you at what you do. Cheers and keep making and restoring blades.

    Seems to be a lot of critics. Even the Mona Lisa needs care, the Cistine Chapel is being touched up. While they do their best to stay true to the original, not always possible. No one has ever built a monument to a critic. Keep up the good work.

      The Mona Lisa was never "updated"

      The answer to that statement is found in this link; www.howitworksdaily.com/preserving-the-mona-lisa/
      The point is there are so many ways to do any one thing yet many choose to focus on how they would have done, the right way to do it, what should not have been done, etc...
      Let us appreciate our diverse views so that are minds are opened to allow possibilities other than our own.
      Enough said. With this I gracefully bow out of this discussion so we can focus on Mr. Tely's work.
      Thank you.

    I think that a handle material matching the age of the cleaver would have been more appropriate- something from maple or walnut.

    Dude, first let me say that the clever looks fantastic. You've given it new life and made a mundane object a work of art. That being said, you've got to understand that there are a small minority of people who get off on being mean and making people feel bad. You've got to ignore those people and not get so defensive. If you were giving away free cars, there are people who would complain about the color. It's just human nature. So stop focusing on the negative and keep posting great videos.

    I like the cleaver. You did a nice job. I liked how you cut something useful in the end, to show what a cleaver is for; instead of cutting sheets of paper for 10 minutes.
