- Beautiful old rusty switcblade knife restoration. In this video I showed the restoration of an old automatic knife. This is a handmade knife. I think this knife was made in 1970-1980. The knife is unique. I decided to restore this rusty knife. I removed the rust and polished the blade. I made new scales from old Bakelite. I liked the result. I hope you enjoyed my restoration video.

I’m with Knife Knut I would give it way higher than a 10. I’m not sure I would have trashed it but it would have been in a box rusty until my kids put me into a home for the old. You should show some of the places your items end up. I know you said many are in museums.

Before reading your description, I would have guessed the knife is from the 1920s or 30s - the main heyday of automatic knives as art objects. After GIs "collected" a lot of them during WWII, quality went down to meet a new market demand. Of course, then you had a lot of knives in the pockets of hard-drinking young adults and so we get a lot of states issuing prohibitions on the type to cut down on the number of bar fights.
Regardless of history - this came out as a great piece in the end.

Guten Tag, Ich verfolge ihren Kanal nun schon lange Zeit, und wenn ich darf hätte ich ein paar Vorschläge um den Kanal interessant zu halten. Denn wenn ich ehrlich sein darf, und bitte nehmen Sie dies nur als konstruktive Kritik an. Es wird langsam aber sicher ein wenig langweilig da immer derselbe Ablauf herrscht. Essig, Natron und Bürste, Elektrolyse und Bürste usw.…. Gerade bei diesem Messer hätten Sie den Essig durch eine Reinigung mit einem Ultraschallgerät ersetzten können, mit einem guten Gerät und Reinigungsmittel erzielen Sie super Ergebnisse! Gerade bei Bundmetall und Alu. Auch könnten sie altes Rostiges Metall vor dem weiter rosten hindern indem Sie das Metall nach der Elektrolyse und schleifen in, z.b. Sonnenblumenöl, kochen. Kann man auch im Glas und sieht gut aus die Blasenbildung. Das ist ein super Rostschutz bei total verrosteten teilen mit deren Haarrissen. Auch sollten Sie sich mal schlau machen über das Chemische vernickeln, wäre auch nicht so eine Sache. Also ich hoffe Sie kriegen die Kritik nicht in den falschen Hals, ich will doch nur das Ihr Kanal erfolgreich bleibt damit Sie noch lange weitermachen. In dem Sinne, Grüsse!

Nice work and result but I'd call it an 8. Should have pinned the scales on rather than just epoxy.
