Thank you Melissa- excellent video that clearly demonstrates a variety of tools, tips, tricks and how to correct when steps go “a little wonky”. Your camera coverage and clear directions are pretty close to perfect!
Thank you for that feedback. I appreciate it.
Melissa, you do such beautiful work. I live this Revere series!!
I sure am happy to see MY UNCLE S ears being made from Alans book. Gorge Willis. Its been a real blessing knowing my uncle, he has shown me lots of tricks. Outstanding artist.
Thats George Willis
Yesterday I had surgery on my back, which came out with thumbs up. I could not get to sleep, went on TH-cam and stumbled upon your Tool Time Tuesday video of one of the projects and became enthralled with the project. I am going to view Project # 9 to start, but will have to stop so my better have can have her time on our computer.A few years back I became obsessed in metal jewelry making of all sorts, but stopped because my wife got really sick. Seeing these projects may have stirred the embers to get back to work on more jewelry.I am a retired person so I have all the time in the world to keep my hands busy.
Sharon Fleming welcome. Glad surgery went well and wishing you a speedy recovery. I am so glad to hear I have sparked a few embers. I hope you are able to get back into it.
Lovely earrings, and well explained video, thank you 🙏!
@@aprilrichmond9888 thank you.
My kind of hoop earrings, lovely!
Melissa, my compliments on your Beautiful Silver Workings~ and especially on your nice teaching style, which I find very understandable & easy to process, even as a beginner! : D
Thank you so much!
Great video! I really like the series to accompany the book! I’ll learn much more with the book because of these videos!
I've been looking for a tutorial on how to make this style of earrings for a long, long time. Thank you so much. Your instructions were superb!
Yay. I am so glad it was helpful.
Thank you for your tutorials!!
Must be a great feeling bringing Alan's book to life Melissa! LMJ pride!
Well detailed. Make more videos maybe with bezels and cabachons please and thank you 🙏❤️❤️♥️❤️♥️
Melissa GREAT VIDEO!!!! I can’t wait to try this project! Thank you for making the time for all of us!
Thank you.
Where do you get the New Gold brass?
Soulful Jewels I got it from Alcraft in New York.
Very good explanation 👏 👌
Thank you so much for your clear, concise instructions with excellent video!!!
Great video! Straight forward & easy to follow.
If only super speed worked in real life! Great video. I’m buying Alan’s book and jumping in! Thanks for the inspiration.
Susan LeGuyader lol. Right? I could do with a bit of super speed in my studio.
Nice job, you got real talent .
Thank you. 🥰
So glad I found you Melissa. I've just recently retired from mechanical engineering after 40 years and started a jewelry course at Winchester University in the UK. Love your videos, could listen to and watch you all day. Many thanks.
Awww thank you. My oldest is in college studying mechanical engineering.
@@MelissaMuir Good for him. Hope he's got lots of patients, likes coffee, the philosophy that you 'never assume', can cope with idiots and has a very warped sense of humor......oh, and drinks like a fish. If so, he'll go far!
During this lock down and home isolation, I feel I'll be seeing quite a lot of you in the coming weeks Melissa. Keep well and safe girl. XX
Derry Bartleet haha. Actually, my oldest is a girl and doesn’t drink coffee. But she does have an interesting sense of humor. She loves math, science, puzzles and building things. I am hoping she will do well. She is enjoying her studies. And I hope you enjoy the videos.
@@MelissaMuir Good for her. Women make great engineers. They're great to work with, they tend to be more attentive with little or no ego and nothing to prove. Best wishes.
Derry Bartleet hi, long time no see. Melissa is great. Also take a look at AndrewBerry At The Bench. on TH-cam videos. He’s based in South Wales, Ystrid Mynach.
I'm so glad you did this video. I wanted to try these earrings when I saw them in Revere's book. The visual training helped over reading it from his book, even with his pictures. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thanks for sharing. Absolutely wonderful video
a great teacher thanks.
I’d love to see them on you! They are gorgeous.
Great video. Very clear and easy to follow.
This was a great tutorial and the detail you show is invaluable. Many thanks. Beautiful earrings!
Thank you. So glad you enjoyed it.
Very nice project and cute earrings 👍👍.
nicely presented, filmed and edited. Thanks!
Another great video! I did this project a couple of years ago using jeweler's brass))). And then I stopped. Can't wait to see you making other projects from Alan's book. I am learning a lot, thanks!
Thank you. ❤️
very cool! i love technique but didn't know how to make it happen so, thanks!
I am glad it was helpful
Excelente. Saludos desde Costa Rica
I love your videos!
So happy you are doing these projects, Melissa. I appreciate your hint that .4 mm thickness converts to approximately 26 gauge sheet metal. My friend has Mr. Revere's book checked out from the library. I hope it is returned soon so I can see the entire book!
Sharon, Check out the Kindle version of the book. It is only $10 so quite affordable. amzn.to/2CnfJnC And then you won't have to wait. :)
great demo
Thanks for sending me to this video, now I will have to watch the whole series and maybe even buy the book. They turned out quite pretty.
I don't think you would be sorry. The book is a really good one. Thank you.
Muy lindos me gusta su estilo. Gracias
Came back to see it again but got distracted trying to see the ring on your right hand! Would love to see it properly it looks gorgeous from the few glimpses I got!
Me too!
Great video Melissa. So easy to understand your techniques and learned a lot today. Thanks>
Mary Lusky thank you. I am glad you found it helpful.
So happy to see your videos on the book projects. Can't wait to do them. Unfortunately started therapy for my shoulder right when the cuff started...but these are helping me so much! Thanks Melissa :)
It always happens that way, doesn't it? I hope you are doing well with it very soon.
Thank you , please do the whole book !! Awesome work
I think I might get eaten alive by the professionals if I do the whole book. Lol. Some of those projects scare me. 😱
Awesome video! Job well done!
I love it!! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you.
You have a great attitude to.
Thank you.
Thanks Melissa, that is wonderful. I’m looking forward to doing this project now. In your next video could you maybe show us how you finish as well? I would have loved to see how you polished the inside of the hoops with them being domed.
Contessa I just used the 3M radial discs.
Thank you so much for making this video.
Wonderful video! Loved the technique as well as the finished earrings. Thank you!
Thank you.
Love it ..great video...I'm glad u are doing them agian.

Awesome video Melissa, thanks for sharing!
Thank you this video was very informative.
Thank you Melissa! Very well done! I learned a few great tips from this video. Love this project! Can't wait to try!
I am so glad you are happy with it. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
👍 great video!! I have not made any jewelry in 2020. This may inspire me.
That is a fantastic compliment. I hope you do make some.
@angelaksamms I love the "make your own" wooden forming stake. Thanks Melissa!
Awesome !! Thank you so much !! Love your videos !!
Thank you. I am so glad you like them.
Myself learning at ear jewelry . Wow ! 😗😗😗😗
thanks melissa great idea and process.
john howton thank you.
great instruction thank you.
John Howton thank you!
Great project! Can't wait to try it! Thanks!
Good luck. It is a fun project.
Great video!
Thank you.
Thank you so much for these tutorials. I would be struggling a lot more with just the book. Did you notice that although the book says "130mm," the length of the template is actually 125mm? The rest of the dimensions match, though. Anyway, the template seems long enough, so I'm going with that.
Where can I get that pattern plate? I love paisley!❤
Beautiful earrings - thank you for this tutorial!
Excellent, excellent video! Question…can you drill the holes for the ear wire “before” you start forming the hoop?
I wouldn’t. As it will deform into more of an oval. But give it a shot. It may work just fine.
Wow -- Nope, I trust your expertise.! Thank you!
Hiya Melissa,
Great video as always, thank you. One point if I may, you use 20 gauge metal but then 0.3mm please as your main audience is American could you always use the gauge size for them, but mm for all us Europeans, Asians, Australians, and Russians, although you may not want to help those last ones at present... Alan always uses mm too.
Stay safe, Steve...
Yes. If you watch the rest of the videos you will see that I did start to do that. At the time this video was made, I was still learning all the mm and their corresponding gauges.
Thank you for the video. Can you please recommend a good pair of sheers and where I can get them? :)
You can get the Joyce Chen shears that are used in this video on Amazon.
Thank you so much for your terrific lessons. ❤ can you tell me where you got the third hand clamp you're using? I've never seen one like that . Thank you 😊
They are a bit pricey, but worth every penny! www.micro-tools.com/products/004-568?aff=8
Great instruction!! What third hand tool are you using for soldering?
This is a holder from GRS. www.micro-tools.com/products/004-568?aff=8
Hi, thank you for your video. When you are working the metal, do you have to stop and anneal during the process? Thanks!
Good Question. Only if you see that the metal is not responding the way would you like it too. If it isn't curving well and you are getting ridges and ripples, then it might be a good idea to anneal it.
Hi Melissa, Your teaching video was terrific. Thanks so much. I made them and they turned out great. My only question is about putting them on - trouble getting them in my ears. Any suggestions?
Emily
A lot of people have that issue. I pot my first 2 fingers inside and spread them open and guide the earring post in with my other hand.
Oh wow I love this design. Thank you. Is the book available?
Yes, and you can even get an autographed copy. www.micro-tools.com/collections/books-tools-by-alan-revere/products/978-1-929565-42-9-s?aff=8
What was the tool called where you made a divet in the metal? Great video
It is a Center punch
Do you happen to have a downloadable template of this hoop pattern? Awesome video btw
@@gailthompson3985 There are downloadable patterns on the Facebook Group “Let’s Make Professional Jewelry”
What is this technique called? I would like a more curved in dome to the hoops. How can that be accomplished? Would dapping tools be helpful?
I call it hammer forming. You could use a dapping set. You could also use different hammers to get the desired effect.
What is the contents of a pickle? How much should I have for projects? How long is it good-to-go time period? Thx.
I am curious which fretz hammer you are using? The silversmith or the 1.2 ounce or the 2.5 ounce ? Love the video
I believe it is the 2.5 oz hammer. It is not the precision smith line. It is the jewelry hammer, not the one for doing larger pieces. There are three sizes of hammers, it is the middle one. I hope that helps.
My inexpensive embossing hammer flew apart in the middle of this great project. Can you tell me which large Fretz embossing hammer you are using? I guess I have to wait to finish until I can order another hammer! ;(
Is it ok to re anneal part way through .. using silver and its become quite hard and stopped forming
Yes.
I am just starting this project and am confused about the gauge of metal to use. In the video, you say it should be about 0.4mm but the book suggests 0.6 mm. These are quite different - anybody have suggestions re the difference?
Kathleen Conklin if ever there is a question, go by the book. Sometimes I do make mistakes and this seems to be one of them. It’s funny, a lot of times in my head I say the right thing but my mouth says something completely different, yet my ears heard what was in my head. 🤷♀️
Melissa, how deep is your divit in the wood?
M Dhondt I will have to see if I can find that particular block again. But it isn’t ty deep. Maybe a few millimeters.
I've seen in other tutorials people suggest quenching the silver as soon as it's annealed... but this doesn't seem to be the case after all?
Wyvernwyrm no. You never want to quench right away. It will have a thermal shock causing the metal to become brittle.
what scribe do you use?
This is one that I made a few years ago. :D
No burnishing?
Not on this one. But you could if you wanted.
Hi, I made these, but trying to put them on is very nearly impossible! Have you any tips thank in advance
Some people have had a hard time with that and have changed the shape of the ear post. I open them up by inserting my thumb and index finger and spreading them apart to open the earring. It works for me, but I guess not everyone can do that.
I noticed you went back and forth with the needle files, isn’t that bad for them? I thought files cut in only one direction.
These metals are so soft that it isn’t an issue. I would never do that with steel. When I pull back, there isn’t much pressure, it is more to keep it as a guide.
What is the length of the pattern and the widest width?
15mm
What about the idea of brass being up against your skin. In my experiece people can be allergic to anything, even gold, silver and titanium.
Leslie Fortney I think just like any other metal, some are going to be able to wear them and some aren’t.
