    This is definitely not a silly video. Thanks for making it! I recently purchased a Vespa after being a car driver for years in CA and definitely could have used this advice. I had to make a call to a friend for them to explain that I had to hold the rubber part with my hand to get the fuel to work. I'm sure this video will be helpful for many.

    Can I just say how thankful I am for your entire video series! You guys saved me from waiting for “undetermined amount of time because Piaggio is slow” to get a turn signal switch for my GT200. I asked for a full service treatment on a Vespa I just got, introducing me to anything extra I should get... to save myself a future headache; you’de think they would want to sell stuff to me? Thank god I understand the importance of the “brown key”! I’m getting back up keys from you guys, replacement trim and anything else I need. It’s pretty old school down here in New Orleans and when the boomers retire, we are in so much trouble if some younger folks don’t step up to learn how to do mechanical work properly but also how to communicate with the client. I know the importance of having a good mechanic so if anyone knows where to go in the Big Easy lemme know... Why? I’m a doctor of moving parts as well (surgeon) so I put stuff back together myself... only it heals... no screws required... well orthopedic cases! 🤣 I don’t know the anatomy of a Vespa but it appears it may be the best species to study first if I’m gonna start getting greasy on the weekends. 🥰😎🏁Modern cars are a mystery to me. Bless 🙏🏻all good mechanics... you guys and gals do the SAME thing done in an operating room and lives DO depend on your work. Just ask about the major component of an axel replacement that was left off my mom’s basic model Mercedes at the dealership.... finding out the mistake was life threatening reminded me that you must learn or have a mechanic you trust like your surgeon or medical doctor! Same thing! We all make mistakes too, but you gotta communicate and educate your client. I’m rambling but thanks y’all. I just need to find some Vespa friends down here. I think I’m hooked! 🏁❤️

    I bought a 2 gallons gas can and went to the gas station to fill it up. Then I use a funnel to pour it into my Vespa gas tank. No overfill, no drip, no need to clean up. Now that is what the Italian guy does in Rome. Chao.

    I hold the gas nozzle outside the fuel tank as I'm filling up so I can watch the gas level in the tank and prevent gas from spilling on the motorcycle or scooter. Never use those free blue gas station towels to clean up spills on a painted surface because they will scratch your paint. I did that on a black Harley Davidson tank and scratched the heck out of it. Luckily you can buff it out if you make that mistake.

    • @jimboemery

      MotorheadRedo a clean bit wouldn't scratch would it?

    • @MotorheadRedo
      @MotorheadRedo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what a clean bit is. I usually just let the gasoline evaporate and don't wipe it off. You can carry a microfiber towel to wipe it off and it won't scratch the tank.

    I have a BV350 2019 and i wish someone would have told me that if you have an overfill in your gas tank that you will have a lot of stalling problems because it will get into you evaporator system and its game over I wish they had a protector for this now I just put 3/4 of gas to be on the safe side thanks again robot.

    • @mopedman1954
      @mopedman1954 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the same problem, my Primavera would not start it was a real pain, I had to crank the motor like crazy, no good. The evaporator was getting flooded, thank you California for that. Here in CT it's not required but all Vespa come with evaporators, I bypassed mine and routed a small hose to the under carriage, so no more starting issues. BTW it's nearly impossible to fill the Vespa without overfilling, you have to really fill the tank very slowly. After 6 years I still overfill once in a while , you can not rely on the nozzle stopper to ovoid overfilling, you need to visualize the fuel coming up in the tank then stop. It takes a little practice, also you can figure out from the gauge how much fuel the tank will take .
      ok Ciao

    Coming in here *seriously* late (over two years), but had to watch this because (1) my usual local fill-up place (Costco) recently installed pumps similar to the one Robot is using here, requiring two handed operation, and (2) I've had just enough overflow incidents for the evaporation system to start acting up, and I'm a bit stuck in deciding whether to (a) fix the evap system or (b) trash it…obviously a bit of a no-no in CA, but here on the Other Coast, not-so-much. Had my GTS 300 rapidly lose power on a major highway (went from 70 to 50 on the Garden State Parkway), so this isn't much of a joke.

    Do you know why the hole is so narrow? I find it annoying that when I try to top it off, I need to very gently pull on the handle to make the fuel come out slower to prevent overflowing. Since the hole is so narrow, I need to raise the nozzle higher so I can see when the fuel reaches the top, and since its so dark in there, I can't see the fuel until its VERY close to the top. It would have been much easier if those pesky thin pieces of plastic weren't there to make the hole narrower! Do you know why the hole has those pieces of plastic? Can they be removed?

    I find it silly that in USA and Canada you need to prepay for gas/petrol/diesel. In Australia we pay after. You fill up the tank to as little or as much as you like and THEN pay at the pump for the fancy Shell/7-Eleven/BP etc or in the shop/station at independent Ones. Because what of you buy more then the tank will hold. Eg. A rental/new vehicle.

    My gts 250ie will only take about 1 gallon, or 4-5L of fuel from when the low light fuel comes on to being full. I bought it used and the last owner had the fuel pump replaced by a shop. Do those bring to mind any possible reason I can’t get 2 gallons in?

    Isn't there a preset amount on the pump, in dollars. The pump stops when you reach that amount. When my scooter gets down to 1/3 tank I know exactly how many dollars to top it up again, usually $2.00

    I usually just watch the gas gauge on the scooter, and let that tell me how close to full I am. But then, I don't like to get gas on my paint job.

    wait but do your guys' gas stations not have an auto-stop? my fuel just stops pumping when the tank is full, I've only had it spill one time

    • @Scootphoria
      @Scootphoria ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they have the auto cut off. Unfortunately, the force from most pumps is very high and causes a huge splash when the fuel is near the nozzle.
      Some pumps can fuel up slow, but many can't. That's why it's a problem here in USA. With most nozzles here, if they are oriented with the handle over the pet carrier (engine compartment), it doesn't splash or is very little on the high pressure nozzles. Another issue here is that the same hose dispenses all grades of fuel so you get about 1/2 to 1 ltr of low grade fuel when filling with high grade, depending on if the station is using right hoses or the larger diesel hose to dispense the fuel. A few have individual hoses, but the majority don't. Another issue is that in several states the weights/measures is voluntary and you often get less fuel that the meter has measured.

      @@Scootphoria oh wow that sucks. here in the netherlands it's great. every gasstation has (practially) the same nozzle. only thing that annoys me sometimes is the fact that the paymentmachines don't work. i insert my card and it declines. i've run out of gas once because my card was declined at the only gasstation in my town

    hey guys I"ve a question. I own a gts 125 supersport and I use it for commuting. The fastest way for me is to take the highway twice a day for about six minutes (+/- 9km or 5,6 miles) at almost top speed (between 105 kph to 115 kph or 65mph to 71mph on the speed gage). Fuel consumption is a bit higher than at normal cruising speed, oil consumption is not that much (after 2000km still the same level). Is that bad for the Vespa?

    • @akmedia8206

      John Doe shake so you don’t spill

  • @kwestak
    @kwestak 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Robot, the only way how to avoid spills on GTS is to insert the nozzle in parallel to the bike (as opposed to perpenticular way you did it). Then go with 3/4 throttle on the filler lever and release with the first click.

    I think it's a bad design not to have a sight tube with such a small tank. It takes me a long time to fill up so I don't spill. If there was a clear tube under the bucket you could watch would be best. Primavera 49cc
