I have used your methods for a long time, but I found something that seems to work better for me. I have been using a airbrush compressor and paint gun but instead of paint i use 99% alchohol. It's perfect since you can get into really tight places and clean/drying things quickly and thoroughly. That's just me though.

This is better. Brake cleaner contains solvents such as toluene and can really root electronics. IPA is a better choice by far.

Some people complain about air compressors using oil, but the one I'm using has never shorted any circuit. It was dirty cheap on a flea market, like 20usd for the compressor, airbrush and container. You do all in one pass, remove dirt, dust, unclog aluminium fins, fans, cases. Unlike Bryan, I saved the wd40, datavac, alcohol tissue for only a 1lt bottle of IPA for 5 usd.

Don't use wd40 if your in America use crc powerlube. Crc powerlube is basically 5-56. I tried all the ones I could fine that are wd40 equivalent but for actual PC cleaning powerlube is the way to go. Wanted to chime in for the American market. Love your vids keep up the good work.

I buy bottles of isopropyl alcohol and paper towels in bulk. More abrasive, has an easier time with thermal paste, and you can control how wet it is. Cheaper, too.
Brake cleaner, at least where I live, eats paint and melts plastic.
In a lot of places you can find a cheap used air compressor for almost nothing. Mine is useless for most normal air-compressor things, but 100psi through a $3 air sprayer attachment will get all sorts of difficult dust out.

    • @purplegill10
      @purplegill10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you're using it to replace thermal paste, it's really recommended to use coffee filters instead as they don't have issues with spreading lint around.

There is also LPS Contact Cleaner which is for many kinds of different electronics. But the one that may be the best of all is Cortec ElectriCorr VpCI-238 Multi-Metal Cleaner/Protector, which is specifically made for motherboards. But we also have WD 40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray, 11 Oz.

This is a Mecca for photo, video, and audio equipment! I try to visit the store every time I visit the City. Owners observe Shabbat, so the store is closed during major Jewish holidays and from 1 pm Friday, all day Saturday; and re-opening on Sunday - keep that in mind when you plan your visit. The place is quite a New York City institution with a huge-size departments, conveyors for order delivery overhead, and colorful friendly staff. You will definitely pay NY tax if you buy in store. Their online store rivals any other outlet including Amazon in convenience, service, and price for photo and video equipment , but if you are a techie, a visit to the brick-and-mortar B&H headquarters will be a pure delight. Reserve at least a couple of hours if you want to see all departments. Major departments include photo - digital and film, video, pro and consumer audio, lighting, home entertainment, mobile phones, computers, surveillance, telescopes and binoculars.

Heavy Duty Silicone Spray Lube for a nice shine. It's inert and can be found at Walmart. WD-40 is like kerosene and can soften and break down some plastic parts. Brake cleaner can also turn some black plastics grey. I'd probably use 90% alcohol or some other form in a spray bottle for cleaning instead. I also use a compressor tank with a nozzle to really blast out dust.

All this will be within the UK and what I have experienced through my years.
An electric screw driver that I've been using for a year and the battery has only ever needed charging once and is called Tacklife SDH13DC. Can be had on Amazon. Has 4 LED lights at the front and one at the back. It's chargeable via a Micro USB connector near the base and does charge rather rapidly for a 2000mAh battery.
Best double sided sticky tap that I have encountered and do not use this until you're 100% sure of where you want something to lay, as it's a pain, even with WD40 to get off. I use this mostly on LED strips around the house when no other tape has worked, including no nails tape and gorilla mounting tape. You can get "Mammoth Powerful Grip Tape" from Amazon for a pretty cheap price.
WD40 Contact Cleaner in the UK is pretty good and a reasonable price, doesn't leave any residue of any kind and it may have saved my AMP and DAC.
Wilkinson's anti bacterial wet wipes are sturdy and their residue will evaporate not as fast as IPA but it will go pretty fast. Alcohol wipes aren't common and if found, are rather expensive.
Wilkinson's do have multi tool kits for cheap that have pliers, cable cutters, Etc. Some shops may vary with what stock they have though.
We got Data Vac's in the UK as well but something that's cheaper and does pretty much the same job is a Compu Cleaner that can be found on OCUK and Amazon and probably other places. I've even used my Compu Cleaner for other things as well. It is a multipurpose item that is a great investment, especially if you live in a dusty home.
Asda also sell their compressed air cans for £2.50 and they're alright and cheaper than most places, even if buying in bulk. Still good to have a can or two laying about as they can come in handy for other projects as well. Such as helping to cool down hot glue by holding the can upside down and spraying. This helps superglue as well, but be careful as this can and will send the superglue flying if there's a bit of excess.

Spray wise i have Rapide electrical cleaner which i haven't tried yet but i'll spray it all over a faulty HD 7850 to try it out, and the wipes i use are anti-static wipes i bought from CCL, they're pretty whack so i just use green clinell wipes on cases etc.
Hex nut driver is an absolute life saver and so is a cordless electric screwdriver, except mine doesn't go straight like that.. need to get the long attachment!

Not sure about the "Multi Purpose Spray", but a MUCH cheaper alternative to BRAKE CLEANER is simple denatured (methyl) alcohol; (this is usually what brake cleaner is made of anyway!) The other advantage it has is that, unlike a spray (with its accompanying fluorocarbons), its application can be better controlled by dipping a Q-Tip, (or pipe cleaner or toothpick) in it and applying it only where and as needed.

US supply of WD40 is not good for electronics, but I still use it to clean up the outside of PC cases. Break cleaner works fine and is pretty cheap $3-$5 a can. We don’t have alcohol wipes here but I do use 91% alcohol from Walgreens and for wiping I use premium pillow cotton pads from Ulta Beauty. Those pads are more cloth like so no cotton threads get stuck or snagged on components, and they are not too thin so you can soak up a lot of alcohol to allow you to clean a lot of grimy components without rewetting the pad. I use a push down alcohol dispenser available Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy and Amazon. The dispenser with the cotton pads makes a for an easy clean job. Sometimes if a GPU fan and heat sink assembly is really nasty, I wash it off in the sink with tap water and then dry everything out in the sun for 30-60 mins. I’ve done this, too, to motherboards I’ve received where the previous owner was a heavy smoker. Sometimes water is required. I always wipe down with alcohol soaked pads afterwards to get rid of any water spots. For sticker and other gunk removal, I use Goo Gone with a cotton pad. I’ve cleaned tons of systems and parts over the years and never have damaged anything using the aforementioned products. This should help those of you in the US at least.
EDIT: I forgot to mention for tools I recommend picking up the Syntus 63 in 1 precision screwdriver set on Amazon for ~$13. There’s also the Syntus 80 in 1 for ~$22. There are different brand names for the same tool set (China made) so just search for precision tool set on Amazon. I also use pliers and toothpicks. Toothpicks are good for cleaning as well as for spreading thermal grease if you don’t have one of those plastic spreaders.

And also Bryan i would just like to THANK YOU because i have always been that type of guy who i thought i would never have any interest in pc gaming or building them, i have since learned to build them thanks to you and also been learning to fix them by diagnosing faults and viruses and it is something i weirdly enjoy weather it is building or fixing them and iv also been hustling used pc parts on Facebook market place and sometimes not often on Gumtree the pc's and parts seem to be harder here in the UK or is it just WALES i'm not sure anyway Bryan keep up the good work and i look forward to the next video cheers Bryan

Get cheap microfiber towels, spray them with a water and IPA solution and replace the alcohol wipes, it will work better and is cheaper and less wasteful. Get a can of Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish to coat stuff and it will repel dirt for years. Cheeers!

You can use crc or contact cleaner on the gpu die for getting thermal paste off quick with a rag and the wd40 to use in the states is specialist contact cleaner it's like 6.50 a can at Walmart and crc is 5 USD

Gelid GC Extreme/ Phopya HeGrease Extreme for the win for the thermal paste review. They are same stuff under dirrerent branding. In Finland Phopya is little cheaper, using it for years now.

All good advice... Exept WD40: Dont use WD40 on motherboards, GPUs or other electric components. On cases its fine, but in ram, pcie and cpu sokets it can make bad connections over time - you can use contact cleaner for that!

Still not a fan of the wd40 on PCBs , and break cleaner. Contact cleaner would be better. And as i have said in the past you do so much restoring of old parts you should get a ultrasonic cleaner and some branson EC .

Hi Brian long time watcher first time poster. I notice that you use a lot of Super Cheap Auto stuff, is there a Repco near you? I've worked at both and shop for everything at sca unless something is on sale then I bulk up. So for brake cleaner they have the motorspray brand in a red can. I don't know if its ok to use with what you are doing with it but for me as a mechanic its exactly the same and about $4 retail compared to the SCA or Repco branded ones at that $9 price point for essentially the same thing.
Thank you for your content, I am always waiting for new videos and have a look through some of your older ones to get my fix haha

Would be cool if comeone mentioned that break cleaner, especially the one containing chlorinated compounds can be corrosive, so you can potentialy damage components when handeled improperly. Also break cleaner vapors are poisonous, so always use it outside. And don't heat it up, since u can decompose it, and the gases from decomposition might kill you :D
    You're welcome ^^

FYI If you live in the USA DO NOT USE Brake clean on your PC parts, it will dissolve the protective coating on PCBs and other components. Use QD Electronic Cleaner CRC 5103 or MAF Sensor cleaner CRC 5110.

@@techyescity I don't have notifications turned on but I will now. Coincidentally I've been getting vids from channels I'm not subbed to, like shroud's. I dont know if that's a result of TH-cam recently making YT Gaming videos show up in the sub box but I don't know how to remove it.
