Great to see his 2 sons have turned into good engineers them self's....they both now are well respected. I'm sure Fred would be proud ..a true English hero
Fred trained his son to be a good listener and pay attention. Very good qualities to have. There is something very special about this man, it’s hard to describe but I think you all know what I mean.
I'm sure they do understand and appreciate everything Fred Dibnah was and everything them and us learnt from him. You can't get more culturally British than Fred Dibnah, what a Legend!
luckily some lives leave a lasting positive impression one way or another on many people. Fred was one of those people. Inspiring, heartwarming, down to earth.
He seeems like a nice bloke for sure, but you are right, people lament how there aren't blokes like him about now but the thing is he was an anomaly back then, even, which is why he was the subject of a documentary- he evoked oldie time feelings back then. (and of course there are blokes like him now)
I met Fred many times at steam rallies and shared a few bevvies. There is a huge empty space in the engineering world where he once stood 😢 He deserved a knighthood for what he did for this country’s history and heritage, not just an OBE. 😔 I’ll see you by and by old mate.
Something magical about moments like this...a good father with his child talking old bollox...in the south we may not have the funny accents but we think every bit as much of our children...lucky kids to have such a fine father..
Your dad was a great man remember that lots of people loved him so much he talks from his heart God bless you fred and you take care have a happy life ⚘⚘what a guy thanks for the memories fred 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I'm sure he was great in many ways, but he seem to have neglected his wife, and maybe kids. they had to adapt entirely to his hobbies. there's two sides to every story
@@danielmartini3229 that's a common theme of survival in an unnatural climate, the pressures are different from the natural program. Partly beneficial you could say. One thing for sure is, that we all come to a halt one day. 😉👍
Shame the lad couldn't have had more time with his dad. Fred was such a top bloke. So knowledgable and talented. Show me any white collar worker who has the chops of Fred. I wasn't fit to wipe his boots.
I grew up in Little Lever not far from where Fred lived and I would see him on the road every now and again. Unfortunately at that age I didn't know much about him but it's a nice memory to hold till this day. A true man of Bolton.
People like Fred are a dying breed, I'm lucky to have worked in a power station on the north coast, I met some old time grafters nearly all ex miners or ship builders. One by one they all retired or died and the place doesn't even feel the same anymore. Don't think we'll ever see the likes of them again.
A class 08 shunting Locomotive in the background I drove them for years on British Rail..those tails he tells about drunken footplate staff are spot on ..it was still like that in the 70s ...I was one of them
Hey up lad... I hope you turn out to be as great as your dad. He was a real gentleman and a hard grafter with a wealth of knowledge. The world is at a loss without people like your father....
He did - there’s a show he’s in with his half-brother (one of Fred’s sons from his first marriage). They’re basically carbon copies of their dad. Obsessed with restoring old things, same ridiculous work rate and fear nothing…..
Beautiful , dad & son together reminiscing....Fred telling his boyhood stories and how he collected stuff and how one day they will be his sons. A wee Guinness helps the mood. RIP Fred. 🏴🙋🏻♂️👏👍
That lamp ended up in the front garden during a robbery on the fred estate..it was left there when Sheila left the place so don't know why the lad not take it..
A grand man, just like the locomotives and chimneys he worked on. One could listen to his stories for hours. Old school work ethic and principle not like the people of today. RIP Sir Fred
I have a signed book. And that took quite some time as it is in Copperplate of course. Got to chat with him for over an hour as the Steam Farm he was opening down in Devon had forgotten to put signs up saying where he was. the 2 boys working the Traction Engine with the audience. I had taken a photo of a model in 5 inch gauge which he appreciated. YES a wonderful GUY. David and Lily Reading.
He came to Radcliffe in 1998 to switch on the Christmas lights for the town in November and before the event itself I have seen his steam engine chugging away from Little Lever into Radcliffe on the 524 bus going towards the town centre coming from Bolton and at the switch on he said in his somewhat disappointed reaction "Is that it?...There's almost nothing there!".
Could you imagine listening to this man every day.........the world would have stopped rotating as you hung on to his every word. I don't miss you Fred, I don't have to. Your legacy is there to see every day, your films should be compulsory viewing.
VERY SOOTHING !!! ... I always dreamed that in his life he could have owned an old Jaguar V12 saloon that he could have kept welded up to take his family on holiday in !!! ... A holiday in Blackpool with fish and chips !!! ... A man almost the last of an era !!!
What is sad about this - and deeply so - is that at this point he knew he was dying and was in great pain. Passing on all of his worldly knowledge and stories to his sons. My Grandfather did the same with me, not long before he died. The greatest sorrow is that his daughters did not get to spend this time with him.

Nice clip, good lads. Sometimes forgotten that he had 3 older girls too, they're only kids in the early videos. Waggon and Horses, sadly gone too when Wanderers moved from Burnden.
My dad was a miner from next door Wigan, he so similar to Fred in how my dad loved steam and anything mechanical, He used to watch all of Freds shows when they came on back in the day I watched too, this is why I know a bit about Fred Dibnah. He's did everything for himself no matter how big the job, and "hire a tradesmen to do the job" would be a swear word in my house as a kid, he renovated a 1930s dilapidated house up to the best house I can remember with no outside help..
Ohh man, what a lovely video. Remind me back in the day, when I had long conversations with my grandpa. I guess we were blessed some how, things were harder, but we were closer as family 👪
its incredible. you can take classical music thats Italian or Czech and give it to a brass band and it immediately sounds like the north of england, especially with fond reminiscences spoken over it. Bless you Fred!
Great to see his 2 sons have turned into good engineers them self's....they both now are well respected. I'm sure Fred would be proud ..a true English hero
Great admirer here of F.Dibnah & Sons from upstate New York. An amazing person.

Listening is the best tool a man can poses.
@@mattroberts3331 yes I agree.
The lad was just being polite.
I thought it was a rather corny TV clip clearly filmed for the TV.
I'm aware of mister dibnas strengths. RIP.
Beautiful. I hope the sons understand just what a fine gentleman & legend, hero to some their father was. Beautiful moments in time.
His son Roger is now a modern day Fred 👏🏻
@C I’ve no idea mate sorry 👍🏻
@C no worries mate ive watched all these TH-cam videos so many times. You should buy his biography if your into reading

Yes it is so sad we all have to go but just try to remember all the happy times you have had with your family and friends god bless 👍

Straight out of the Victorian Age, was Fred. He even admitted that himself. There will never be another like him, ever. RIP Fred. So sorely missed.

Lovely clip. Many miss him, one of a kind.
Yes 100% it was hard working men like him that made Britain what it is today although I know he'd change a few things
Could watch and listen to this Gentleman all day long.

Wonderful happy memories
He got an MBE in 2004
Those titles mean less than nothing.

Met him about 97, great stories.. godbless u Fred 🙏🏼
We should stop issuing honours in the name of a non-existent empire.

What a great fellow Fred was a true gent , he's well missed at this household .
amazing footage, his lads are like the man himself, in many ways, fred`s legacy carries on.

For some reason Fred talking to his son here and the brass band music playing
made the advert for Hovis Bread jump into my mind.
i use to re-weld the crap welds the robot had made on hovis bread tin moulds, company called flurocarbon in dunkirk nottingham ....btw ;)
This piece of TV is an absolute beautiful moment. I wish I met this man.
What a top man, love the fact he liked the ladies and a pint ….. proper bloke…. Proper accent, internet superstar! 🇬🇧
I struggle to remember my dads face this lad is going to remember his dad forever
I had no idea Fred lived to see his son this old...what a great father & son chat. They both look very content in each other's company.

What a great man Fred was and what a lovely son. A brilliant engineer whose memory will live forever.
Simple people, simple lives.... but they are simply brilliant.
So sad Fred has gone; a true northern character. It's clear from this short clip how he adored his young sons.
yeah; i was expecting him to hate his sons, like most fathers do.
That was sweet watching Fred and son...rip Fred
so nice! greatfull about the legend and his humour , glad because he left one generation of his bravure!
A very special man and just like all exceptional people they are taken from us too soon.

Brilliant - Thank you...
I'm sure the young man will grow to appreciate and maintain what he has been taught. That is the point after all.
He has.
When you consider some of the utter arsewipes that have been knighted, then it makes Fred's omission from the list painfully embarrassing.
