Constructed on farmland 1.2 miles south of Woodhall Spa the station opened in February 1942 as a satellite station to RAF Coningsby. In August 1943 it became No. 54 Base Substation. After victory in Europe May 1945 the airfield was used as an assembly and kitting out point for Tiger Force (a proposed heavy bomber force for the far east). After the end of the Second World War and with the move of No. 617 Squadron to RAF Waddington the airfield was closed and the site used by No. 92 Maintenance Unit for the storage of bombs.

Lest we forget the betrayal of our war dead and their kin in a country they wouldn't even recognise. ✝️ 🙏

Looks like you had a great day there exploring. So as its a nature reserve?...and you need a code to get in...does this stop the unintelligent getting in and causing disruption??

Thanks Stan we did, yeah there is ground nesting birds on the runway parts it's to I guess protect the birds. The bomb store area is a nature reserve too you can walk anywhere in that part. 👍

Really well made video with excellent camera work. The airfield maps used as location pointers really helped with getting a feel of the site. Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to produce it. Hope the both of you enjoyed making it as much as those of us watching. This channel deserves way more subscriber's. This site is the last place on earth that Guy Gibson trod. Truly hallowed ground. Keep up the great work. Thank you both.

Thank you Steve. The record site plans are really helpful in locating the various buildings and shelters that remain. Yes, we both quite enjoy visiting the locations and making the video/videos. 👍
