The moment PA 474 flew through that sunset brought tears to my eyes , may we never forget all of the brave souls who never got to see the sun set again. They fought and died for our freedom, and for that we owe them a debt that can never be re payed.

My dad's brother, my uncle John and all his crew, lost their live's in a Lancaster bomber crash, shot down over Holland as they returned from a bombing run over Germany. RIP to all the brave souls who died defending the UK from German aggression.

Imagine the skies filled with these taking off by the ton to join the bomber streams, then later, post op, in tatters, many, seeking their home grounds, all at virtual once.

War is a horrible, dirty business.......we still haven't learnt any lessons as a race.
It saddens me that civilians died for no reason on all sides.......but it grinds my teeth when some moan about the allied bombing of German cities. Never forget all the "Blitz" around the UK, all the innocent lives taken here, before Germany got the favour back....
55,000 bomber command souls gave their freedom for ours.......never ever ever forget them..

Yes we should never forget this . But people seem to want too . Very sad . Just think hitler could been marching up whitehall . Then what .

As spectacular as it is, worth remembering that this is a machine that was used to visit a horrendous war crime on a civilian population.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Nazi Germany and its population conducted a total war against the people of Europe without any any morals or scruples. They had to be beaten into total submission as quickly as possible to save the maximum number of lives. Bomber Command and the enormous sacrifices it made helped achieve this victory and also to democratise Germany for the first time in its history.

Also worth remembering that it's a machine that saved the lives of many starving as a result of occupation by that civilian population's military, also worth remembering that it's a machine that flew many POW's home after having been imprisoned by that civilian population's government, and worth remembering too that it was involved in fighting a war started by their country that resulted in the deaths of millions of innocents across Europe and indeed around the world. A sense of reality and proportion might help you.

The people of Warsaw, Rotterdam, London, Birmingham, Coventry, Hull, Bristol, Liverpool Southampton. They would probably say the same thing about the Heinkel 111 bomber.

Worth remembering that the Germans started bombing civilian targets first, Warsaw, Rotterdam and numerous British cities, not forgetting Spanish cities.

She flew over Bedfordshire yesterday ( 16th May ) about 6.30 pm, 1500ft or so, Cranfield airfield then heading toward the former RAE Thurleigh area, I guess they were picking up the A1 to head north and back home.
