- June 15 marks 10 years since rioters took over the streets of downtown Vancouver after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup final. Here's a look back at the lead up to that night, its long-term effect on the city and whether it could happen again.

American cities can be just as bad like Philadelphia, Detroit, LA after winning a championship to name a few. Vancouver is the only Canadian city I know of from a American point of view that does this.

This was such an embarrassment. The whole world was asking "Why" and I had no clear answer to my international friends and family. It's just chaos and blatantly uncivilized activity. If it happens again, I say we stop doing it in Vancouver, the privilege should be taken away.
Remember when it came out that near all the rabble was from outside the City of Vancouver? Most came from the Fraser Valley just to cause trouble.

Don't get too embarrassed. Not to excuse violence or anything, but the answer is simple, hurt people hurt people. It happens all the time.
I'll put it in these terms, for your friends or family overseas, suppose they invested their life savings in something. It fails, they are left with nothing. And now, they are broke, homeless, while everyone they know decides their folly and don't bother to help.
Or if your friend were trying to get a date with someone they are stone in love with. Things look promising, they even get a couple dates in, and then find out the person was using them the whole time, cares nothing about them. And now your friend is left heartbroken.
In another sense of the word, that is what happened in Vancouver.

Since MTL is in the finals, the answer to that is yes.
As of Jan 24th, 2024, Vancouver's in first overall and Boston's second overall.
So it definitely could happen again this year.
It'll be more dependent on if Vancouver loses in the SC Final, not really dependent on who they lose to. It could also happen if they win the Cup. Vancouver has to be smarter after 1994 and 2011.

People need to realize not everything will go their way and act as civilized human beings. People could and did get hurt and it is just not worth it over a game.
A lot of these young rioters are civilized since they are willing to stand up against their aggressors. That is the cry baby boomers who expect to have it their way all the time by making free money from exploiting youth..
I stopped watching hockey after that season. It will never again be as great.
It got me back into hockey. I was very happy to see the youth fight back against the greedy exploiting cry baby boomers.

What Washington DC riots?
January 6th I think (that was politically motivated, not sports motivated)
As someone who lives in Vancouver that was embarrassing what those rioters did.
It could happen again anywhere after a local "big four" pro team wins a championship.
It's my understanding that the riot actually began about fifteen minutes BEFORE the game ended (with about eight or nine minutes of playing time left), with Vancouver already down 3-0 in the game.
They weren't ready. It's part of our history and I am proud of our loyal fans.
The Canucks are not ready for another final because other teams are getting better , so no riots this year 😂😂😂😂

Yeah it probably will. We could win and probably still have a riot. They should have kept Corey Schnider in net all of Game 6 and we could have had a chance at winning the cup. We lost 8-2 Game 6 and they took Louongo out well after they were too far gone.
