Ooooh I can't believe I still haven't gotten to the Neapolitan series yet, it sounds SO up my alley. And heck yes for Oathbringer, it's a chonky boy but it's worth it in the end! My July was very meh, but some great standouts were The Undertaking of Hart & Mercy by Megan Bannen, Thirsty by Jas Hammonds (one of the only YA contemporaries that I actually still enjoyed), The Sundering Hours by Jacquelyn Hagen, and Reign & Ruin by JD Evans. Hope August treats you well 🥰
Ooh I am always intrigued by a YA rec, I need to look into that! Sounds like we both had a 'meh' month but I am glad you had some reads you enjoyed! Here's to many 5 star reads in August for both of us!
Ultra-Processed People sounds so fascinating! I've seen researchers discuss that topic, and it's so upsetting! I was a little curious about When the Moon Hatched but not anymore. 😅 Loved hearing your thoughts on all of these!
It is upsetting but I really really like being educated about things in society and how we are "nudged" into certain actions. It has brought so much awareness to me. WTMH has great potential in plot and magic, but that romance and FMC are miserable to read. Whhhhhhhy do I feel the need to continue in series that are 2 stars?!
Great wrap up! I ended up really enjoying chain gang all stars, but I totally understand why you had issues with it, I had some similar struggles while reading, especially with all the POV’s. I also read edgedancer in July and pretty much had the same thoughts haha. I’m planning on starting Oathbringer today and I’m simultaneously excited and terrified! And I’m so glad you loved the Neapolitan novels, I really want to get to those soon 😊 My 5 star reads in July were Just For The Summer, The Things We Cannot Say, and Parable of the Sower (well, 4.75 but close enough)!
We are reading twins! I need to look into the ones you rated 5 stars this month, since I haven't read them, but we seem to have similar taste! Good luck with Oathbringer! Are you still confused in the series or is it coming together for you?
I LOVED Needless Street, that is why I was so shocked this did not work for me. That one has multiple POVs too so that cannot be the reason... But yeah I cannot think of who to recommend Sundial to.
Oh geez When the Moon Hatched....lololol the opening creation myth was awesome. The romance was AWFUL I hated it lol and she was moronically abrasive like no matter what was happening, even when she was tortured, she was still all snarky it was just weird.
Exactly - moronically abrasive is the best way to put it. I feel like that is such a common personality in romantasy and one of the key factors of why I can't find anything I like. If we could lean into the magic and plot, there is a lot of potential there.
@@JAKandtheBookStack I totally feel you. If you want a political romantasy I’d say check out the mages of the wheel it’s self pub and available on KU book 1 is Reign and Ruin and that one has some pretty good spice too. If you want just adorable wholesome no spice The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst is SO GOOOD
this lipstick looks so good on you! I know I'm late, but hoping august was better for you 💖
@@NerdyNatReads thank you!! I’m really in a “red” mood lately lol

I didn't enjoy Sundial either. You are a rockstar with the Stormlight Archives books, I'm struggling! 🤣
I am struggling too! My understanding is shakey at best. But there are strong elements (like swooning over Kaladin and his kind heart).
Pretty solid month, you’re inspiring to push and see how much I can fit in this month haha
Don't you dare - that is how you get burnout! I just neglect society and responsibilities so I can escape in other worlds lol
@@JAKandtheBookStack 😂😂😂😂
I dnfed Sundial and When the Moon Hatched was an iffy one for me. I liked some things but didn't others.
We are bookish twins in this case!
I also found UPP really interesting
@@MeMyDogAndBooks very insightful! It will definitely stick with me!
The Neopolitan Series is in that small category that I think can be called literature these days 👍
Absolutely agree! It was so beautiful
I liked the House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward but I heard weird things about Sundial and didn’t pick it up 😢

@@RodgersReads yay thanks for the recs! I’m filming my romantasy vlog now and I have SO many opinions lol 😆
