I don't understand why everyone says that he isn't trying to change when he's actually the one who's trying to make things right. The problem is the people around him don't let him do the things that he is suppose to do.
@@ipman3249 Although what he was thinking at that time is bad, you can't blame the guy. Admit it or not, you have thought about someone taking the person you love one time in your life. Also, his mind is clouded during that time, it isn't his fault.
Honestly saying "If you like Mushoku Tensei, you support pedophile and grooming" is like saying "If you like Grand Theft Auto, you support crime and violence and murder" We have transitioned from blaming games, to blaming cartoons now.
Anime was always blamed in the same way, as violent, “edgy” and all that crap. Everybody knows Crunchyroll snubbed MT because would be an absolutely PR nightmare that would cost them cash and while I don’t necessarily blame them for avoiding this, is very telling when just a few years ago they had no problem putting Devil Man Crybaby on a ton of categories despite being a show packed with way more brutal stuff.
Or even "if you enjoy watching documentaries about nazis then you are a fanatic that wants to do a genocide" lol no. I mean, most of the people who enjoy those are people who really love the history behind it, not because they wish to become a nazi.
This effectively becomes the argument of “if you like this villain, you support their actions” No, chances are if you like blank villain, you don’t excuse their actions, you acknowledge their actions as shit but still like the character Same applies for Mushoku Tensei as a whole. If you like it, no shit you acknowledge the weird shit that happens as insanely weird, but you still like the show itself overall.
Ironically, the same people who accuse others of "if you like this villain, you support their actions" also supported MCU's Thanos. Think about that, for a moment...
@@gabrielclark1425 People are quick to overlook and accept fantasy genocide and murder, but put their foot down when it comes to other morally corrupt issues. Kind of wild that people have become desensitized to that in media
Spot on my guy, I really thought the world building and some more mature aspects of the show are fuckin fantastic, Rudi himself is shit in that one aspect - there are other aspects of him that I enjoyed, him afraid of leaving, him dealing with combat. That shitty aspect of him definitely turned me off a lot and maybe some typical isekai shit but honestly the brutality and sheer on edge aspect of the world is great. I'm probably going watch the second season given enough time.
Here's how it stands for me. First issue comes with the main character's actions towards underaged girls. Is it pedophilia? In my eyes it is, even if there is an argument that it isn't it just feels wrong to me. Specially some scenes like when he forcibly takes off Sylphie's clothes etc. Everyone will agree that those actions are bad. Now the question is, do you think that there is a path to redemption for a person that did that. In my opinion, the answer is no. I watched the anime and all I can think of is that no matter what Rudy does, I can never forgive those actions. That's where controversy stems from. You have people that say it's bad but it can be redeemed, and people that say it's bad and it can't be redeemed. I'm of the second opinion. Everything else in the show is amazing. Now my issue with Gigguk's take here is that, yes he does acknowledge that there are bad and creepy things in the show, but he completely disregards them when rating the show. Is the show good? yes. Is the show the best ever made? It probably would be if not for the degenerate things in the anime already mentioned in the video. So bump it down a notch. That's why people don't like it's fandom. Acknowledge that there are things majorly wrong with it. Acknowledge that it's a good show even with that. Give it maybe an A instead of S and that's completely fine.
The thing about Mushoku Tensei that I like is that they present these totally awful one note looking characters like Elinalise, Eris, and Rudy and turn their character upside down. I was legitimately surprised at how I liked Elinalise in the novel after reading her backstory and her actions.
That's one of the building blocks of good story telling: Character development. A lot of series (either regular TV shows or anime) miss the mark with this and we are left with one note characters which is very off putting.
Elinalise is such a sweet and loving character. Of all the characters in Mushoku Tensei I'd say that Elinalise is one of the most benevolent and understanding.
@@suprith5443 yes and i thought the ending of the main story made me want to cry, little did i know Old Dragon's Tale was the final boss of wanting to cry
Really feel like a lot of theses "character gets reborn as child" trope shows would literally avoid all the creepy issues if they did "child born with knowledge of another world but is still just like a child" also feel like it would just be kind of cool and interesting to read a character with the knowledge of an adult but still the maturity and stuff of a child
Mushoku actually did this to an extend, by directly explaining that some things that he consciously knew should affect him (such as arouse) didn't have any effect at all, because he had been reborn and essentially was now just a baby with the mind of a baby, the emotions and responses of a baby, but also on top of that the memories of a past life thrown in. The more he grows, the better he connects his past memories with his current state of mind, so he matures faster than normal. But apparently too few people pay attention to these details. For example details such as how he still cries like a baby for no apparent reason (due to sensory overload amongst other natural causes). He very much does undergo a sort of reset of both body and mind.
@@nightmareerrors9360 Maybe becuase thats not what the show is glorifing. I mean, Berserk portrays that as a reality of the world and doesn't take it lightly. The other 2 are recognized as trashy. What point did you think you were making?
Berserk doesn't make jokes out of serious situations. Redo of healer knows its trash and owns it. If Mushoku Tensei would recognize that it promotes pedophilia as any hentai and wouldn't sell it as "character development" I would be fine with it
Imo I think the main character is an accurate depiction of a shut in, socially awkward, traumatized, bullied individual. They often have unhealthy mindsets and are socially crippled individuals. It's like having a mental disability and overcoming it is very very difficult. Watching someone overcome their flaws is the furthest thing from problematic.
What I don't get is why people are not more sympathetic towards him though. Like in real life if there was a guy who was thoroughly bullied the entirety of his school years, he would develop loads of trauma, bad ideas, and a terrible view on life. These are the people who become school shooters and the Joker. It's funny. when people watch Joker and support the character for basically killing loads of people, while Rudeus is kind of the same except he goes the incel route. Both products of a terrible society.
@@commentreader295 because killing people is less of a crime than molesting for them 🤷♂️. What I can’t understand is why they’re saying that he’s a pedo. I agree that he probably has some fantasy about fcking a loli or something, but in reality, he never touched or liked a girl that is physically younger than him. Sylphy, Roxy and Eris are either as old or older than him. His old life is gonna, that fat ass dude is dead. He’s now a kid but has the memories of his previous life. Or I guess that twittard doesn’t understand the concept of reincarnation of the east/south east asian in general.
@@MaidenlessScrub I would say that being reincarnated with the memories of your experiences from your previous life still intact does lend itself to being a little iffy on whether I'd consider him a child still. Yes, his physical body is that of a child, however, he has the mental maturity of an adult or at least an adolescent (social isolation would tax this, however, he would still have more experiences then the average 5-10 yr old). Usually, the issue with the difference in age is a) older usually (between an adult and child at least) means bigger/stronger, so more able to manipulate the younger person through force and b) the older person has more experiences and mental maturity, meaning they have more ways to manipulate them through their words (there are other issues, but these are the main two usually). Obviously, as Rudy's body is that of a reincarnated child, the physical difference isn't there (especially with Eris), however, the mental maturity is there due to the experiences he has from his first life. I would say this comes through in evidence in how he is seen by his parents and most people he interacts with as being a little odd, not only in his seeming talent for magic, but also in his mannerisms. So, I do think if Rudy were to ever take action on his desires, then I would say he is a pedo to some degree as he has a higher mental maturity then at least Sylphy or Eris (Roxy obviously actually being a lot older then she looks), however, I do agree that calling him a pedo goes a bit far (lolicon would be as far as I would go), thats just the internet for you, they're gonna go with the most extreme label that can seem to fit.
The depiction was so accurate I recall around the time of the last volume of the novel a article was written about how a lot of shut-in in Japan related to the character of rudy and was moved by his journey causing a lot of them to reflect and learned how to be better human beings as well as getting back into society. cant remember the detail well also cant seem to find article but might have reported on a sharp decline in unemployment.
@@commentreader295 because most people don't see inside of a life/mind of people like him and because it's not reality that we're talking about and we respond to it differently
Honestly at first he basically views the world as a game and only through the more serious events that take place does it really awaken a more serious side to him that actually begins to view and treat women as people more than sexual objects. I mean this man was a 34 year old virgin with probably the worst view on woman you could probably have, akin to an incel, so seeing this character development is really cool
"treat women as people more than sexual objects" You sound like someone that doesn't understand life or human nature at all. I'm sorry to your parents and the school that taught you but they failed miserably. Humans, like all forms of life, are reactionary entities. Our very thoughts are dictated by genetics(general mapping of our potential growth and neural wiring) and our environment (literally everything else from foods, weather, familial interactions, friends, work etc.). We are shaped by this and become who we are. If you were raised in Nazi Germany then the odds are high that you would have become a Nazi. If you were raised in a racist white family that owned slaves then the odds are high that you would have become a racist that viewed said slaves as property. The reason I say the odds are only "high" is because there are always outliers just as there are always mutations. Perhaps something happens that makes you see things differently. Regardless, humans are, at their very core, reactionary entities. Now, on to the "objectification" issue you have been taught. I'm sorry to say this but the reality is that women are sexual objects, just like men. You will be "objectified" regardless of whether you like it or not. Your dating choices will, as such, be largely determined by this as well. Sex fucking sells and you'd be an absolute tool to believe otherwise. It's a hormonal drive to breed and view the gender you are attracted to sexually. If you don't "objectify" that gender then you wouldn't be into them in the first place and neither you nor I would be here today if not for our parents doing this very thing. Another great example, just in case you can't get this through your head yet. A straight man isn't going to date another man. At least, not without an external reason. This is because the straight man isn't sexually attracted to the other man. I personally, know the reason I date women and not men. It's because I love pussy. Naturally, I give a bias towards women that I do not give to men. Women, who are attracted to a man, will do the exact same thing. This is a hormonal response and whether you like it or not it is a part of us. Aquaman is worth a billion not because he was some popular hero but because women found him sexually attractive. His looks sold his character and anyone saying otherwise is being disingenuous or a fool.

He finds women sexually attractive, that's about the extent of his "view on women", how the fuck does that make him an incel? If finding women hot makes you an incel, I guess being an incel is normal and the vast majority of men are incels. Terrible use of that word, conflating normal male behavior with that ideology.
@@SolaticSyot He is an incel as incel stands for involuntarily celibate, he in his past life died a 34 year old Virgin who barely if ever went outside. So put simply by definition he is an incel. I think you need to reread what I said as I never said because he finds woman attractive that makes him an incel, it is the fact that he is a 34 year old virgin who has a troubled view on women, barely taking into consideration how they might feel about his actions towards them that makes him an incel in I believe most peoples eyes. The point I made is though at the beginning he shows troublesome behavior in line with an incel over time his perversions take up less and less of his thoughts until at the end when he sleeps with a certain lady (leaving out spoilers) he is actually hesitant to go through with it as it was not the deal that was made, the recently reincarnated man that we meet at the start would have jumped at the chance to sleep with her without a second thought. It's the growth of Rudeus as a character that I love
@@KaoruSugimura I have probably reread this more times than I care to admit, yet still I am completely uncertain on what you are saying, it's like you are saying everything and nothing at the same time. Yeah, without knowing what a reprehensible human being he was at the start, you can't really appreciate how much of an improvement he undergoes once he settles and starts a family.
I agree 100% with his opinion on this. One thing, I would like to add, is, that people complain about Rudy being perverted, but most of the scenes, this applies to, are just typical comic relief scenes, which are exactly the same as in virtually every other anime out there (at least nowadays). Yet, people don't complain about all the other shows doing literally the same things.

The best part about the show is the messed up shit the MC does. It makes him feel like an actual real life horrible person, and not like a self insert character. It builds his character by making him an absolute piece of shit, and then breaks him down in every way possible to make a bad person into a hero. In the show, the MC treats characters as if they were milestones, as NPCs. However, everyone else treats his actions as downright disgusting. While watching the show, I felt incredibly uncomfortable every damn episode. The problem the community had with the show was that it was way too realistic for them to feel comfortable and self insert. The popularity of Jobless reincarnation is way lower than other shows is because it is too realistic, and feels too real to treat as a fantasy isekai. Every damn time an episode of the show releases, I get hesitant to watch it just because of how uncomfortable it makes you feel. Looking at the show from an objective point of view, the character writing and character development is absolutely perfect. Specifically because it was written so well, the actions of the characters feel way too human; as if a flawed human was put in that scenario and was let to do whatever they wanted. Their immoral actions are not of the sort of evil, but the sort that anyone on earth could feasibly think of doing by extending their line of morals a slight bit greyer, just to let them do the immoral action and give an excuse to themselves on why they did it.
And it’ll keep getting more popular as it goes on. Also if you reincarnated and your remember your previous life. It’s not your fault you can remember. Give him some slack on that. He did sexually assault some of them though and that was wrong
@@MortalKing sorry I meant to say lower than it should be. It is still incredibly popular, but is less popular than shows like AOT, Demon Slayer, and Jujustu Kaisen.

So many detractors (and some poorly thought out defenders of Rudy) don't understand that the audience is expected to be uncomfortable with Rudy planning to groom Sylphy. Its supposed to be jarring when Rudy molests sleeping Eris. We are supposed to be tense and saying "NO no no STHAP!" when on Rudy's 10th birthday night, he tries to do the thing with Eris. Rudy was written to start as the worst of Japanese society. Giving him so much to overcome gives meaning to this second chance at life, and sets up an incredibly positive redemption story. When the meta story is examined, its clear that the author does not intend to promote or glorify Rudy's disfunctions and infractions. The author lets us see that Rudy would try to groom Sylphy, then separates them for the rest of their childhood. The story lets us see that Rudy would try to take advantage of Eris, would not stop at any lines. Then has this girl that Rudy is around be the the type that would never let him get away with any line crossing, and never let herself be a victim. Its cleverly written to show the audience the depth of his depravity, without actually letting the real depravity happen. Sylphy does not get groomed, Eris kicks Rudy's ass every time he crosses a line. In the end of the season, its Eris that takes the traditionally male role of pressuring her girlfriend (whom she wants to protect) into giving up the V card. And it is Rudy that is damaged by the event's aftermath.
@@tyresr Huh? He already answered questions on why He wrote Rudy this way. Rudy is literally the textbook definition of a piece of shit NEET, obviously set up for a redemption story.
I feel like 80% of the anime community should understand this. Its sad they don't. I feel like soo many people are unable to look past the surface level with Mushoku Tensei to understand what the story is trying to say. They immediately see Rudeus having a toxic view of women and immediately decide its a bad show and slander it when the point of the show is that it actually agrees with them. The show is trying to show you that someone who is a societal reject, and incel with toxic views can change and become a better person. The show is actually a commentary on how these view points are bad and how people can change with some guidance and fumbling a long the way because we are all humans and the path to improvement is a thorny and arduous one. (Slight Spoilers Below) Literally every single significant character in the show is shown to have character flaws that they all improve upon throughout the course of the first season alone. Roxy goes through having serious confidence issues and grows to be more confident in herself as time goes on. Rudeus' father Paul has some of the same issues as Rudeus in being a womanizer himself and making mistakes to being the person most torn up by the family being separated and the person trying the hardest to reunite his family. Iris goes from being the typical brash violent Tsundere to learning how to be more patience and respectful of other people. Ruijerd goes from being jaded and cynical to everyone except children to learning that he does have an impact on changing his situation and peoples viewpoints of the superd to the point of being able to put some trust in other people and make some friends a long the way.
Yeah, all the people that look at Rudy and go "He's a pedo, bad character" is honestly so annoying, like come on guys this story is literally about his journey trying to be a better person, it said so in like the first episode. He *knows* that the things he does and thinks are fucked up, and that's why we see things like him recoiling in disgust at himself when he was going to try and molest Eris in her sleep when she slept with him. We're not supposed to go "Yeah! He's a pedo, good for him!" We're supposed to say "Woo! He's becoming less of a trash human being!"
It’s a power fantasy. Admittedly it has very good characters for an isekai, but at the end of the day the writing is super basic. Bad person become better person, or gets over past trauma of bullying. I binged the manga, it was pretty fun, but it still isn’t that good of a series. The best part was its production values.
@@palmer1495 Not necessarily, first of all the manga is the worst way to experience this particular story, second of all having good characters and believably giving them an arc that slowly changes them into better people automatically fulfills the checkmarks for good writing so im not sure how you separate the two as if they are unrelated.
I don't disagree with the part about rudeus trying to become a better person, that's good, it's part of his character development. I really enjoyed the early episodes despite that weird ass behaviour. What really put me off this show was that at first it comes off as a realistic depiction of people with flaws, and I was like fair enough, but if you're going with the realistic depiction, why is the character not facing realistic consequences? It baffled me that after the shit he pulls, the plot devolves into dumb hentai trope of the girl getting angry, slapping him, then somehow being ok with it. People on here are comparing it to shows like game of thrones, where there's much more messed up things happening, but that doesn't hold up because when a character in that story does something messed up, guess what, they face real consequences. That's why it's able to do those things and people don't complain about it (as much). Yes, it's likely the most interesting isekai out there, but these things I pointed out earlier kept happening through the show and everytime I was like "you can't be serious?"
@@leubzo1436 except he does face consequences that he specifically spells out throughout the light novel, jn fact one of the biggest arcs in the whole series is based on the consequences of his perversion, even then most of the shit he does is as expected of a nobleman in the world and he actively begins pushing back against it due to what Paul did, people act as if just because he has his moments that Rudy's is just either irredeemable or that his actions are glorified or seen as good things and none of that is true
I support Gigguk's points fully. You just need a good separation between real life and fiction. If you don't, then you're gonna have a lot of trouble enjoying animes that bring up real life issues. They put a lot of debate on Mushoku Tensei regarding people liking Mushoku Tensei likes grooming and pedophilia, but do they ever debate on people liking other popular series such as Attack On Titan (AOT) having MC doing hideous things as well. So if same logic applies, then should we say people who like AOT supports genocides and warcrimes. Some people even went deeper and make a dark joke or meme about it (eg. Eren did nothing wrong), and people didn't even bat an eye, because it is humourous and 'acceptable' by general. I can't imagine what public's opinion going to be if someone make a dark joke based on things that happened on Mushoku Tensei. I guess uncomfortable things in Mushoku Tensei hit too close to home for some people in real life.
i do agree with Gigguks openion but i abseloutly do not agree with the comparison to AOT and Eren. you're not supposed to like Eren. the horrible things he does is abseloutly supposed to make you see him as a villain. and whille the bad traits of Rudy aren't supposed to be something we like about him we're not supposed to consider him a villain for them either.

To glorify something the show would need to offer an opinion or guide your opinion towards "liking it". THE SHOW HAS NO OPINION on the topics. That's what makes it interesting. It doesn't TELL you it's bad or good. It's up to you to decide that. Much like Rudy has to relearn all that. Also why is this even a discussion. It's a fictional show, y'all watch murder and rape and shit on TV and run around "WiNtER is COmINg" and don't get put down for liking that show.
it does have an opinion about it, they explicitly state that it is a character flaw of rudy. if they potrey it as a flaw that needs to be overcome then it means that they do the exact opposite of glorifying it.
Nobody likes Rudeus father. Every time he does something wrong, he gets punished for it. The focus of the show in this topic is not on how Rudeus is good or bad. But on how much women have to choose and adapt to such an environment. It's a reflection on our society.
The whole point of rudy's character in the beginning of the anime is for him to be a horrible person that you shouldn't like. If people can't see that the main plot of this story is rudy becoming a better person and trying to redeem himself in this new life then they are ignorant and can go back to watching their generic power fantasy haram anime. I personally love seeing anime pushing subjects that could make people uncomfortable because it could actually make for an amazing original story.
It's not just that viewers get put off by Rudy's actions, characters in the show are taken aback by his sudden character changes, even if they themselves are very flawed to put it lightly. In their eyes Rudy is a genius hard working polite kid who is also very patient and constantly wants to improve upon himself, but sometimes his brain stop working and he transforms into a sexual deviant for a minute, and you can see in most of the reactions around him that they hate that but they still care for the usual Rudy enough to let it slide
I'd agree with you for the first part of the show, leading up to the explosion, but after that it really felt like they reset most of his character growth, and his perviness towards everyone, including children, goes nearly back to what it was at the start of the show. Also the bit about people reacting poorly to it is shown in way less of a negative light, usually resulting in a sort of "Oh, you little pervert lol" reaction from the other characters. The scene that really killed my interest in the show was the bit where Eris and the beast children were playing while bathing, and he was just watching from inside a box. The scene direction definitely felt the same as fanservice scenes in other anime, and when he was caught it was a five second gag and then it was forgotten. Early scenes felt like we and everyone else in the show were intended to be disgusted by his actions where this one didn't.
@@shrubninja6444 It did seem like his character growth was kind of reset after the teleporting but I don't think he actually made as much progression as you think he did pre teleporting. He was still trying to make moves on Eris just in a less aggressive or disrespectful way imo. About the scene with Eris and the beast girls, I thought of that scene as a comedic gag showing rudeus being a pervert as usual but also how the father was thankful for rudeus but would never let him act on his daughters
If by watching a show and liking it we support everything inside it, we all would support meth dealers and a guy that kills with a pen and thinks he is the “god of the new world”.
Here's the thing, Rudy does some really messed up things, and often makes one uncomfortable. However, his misdeeds typically don't go unpunished. There are negative repercussions for his his actions. The maid is creeped out by him as a baby. When he went too far with Eris, she puts him in his place, he learns and apologizes. His own sister didn't want anything to do with her brother because he is a pervert. The show does NOT act like Rudy's behavior is in anyway good. I get that this personality trait can put somebody off. It's almost designed to do that. But the point is, that it is bad behavior. The show depicts Rudy slowly understanding that women are people and he needs to consider their feelings. The point of the show is to watch a deeply flawed person get a second chance and actually deal with their faults instead of hiding from the world like he did in his first life. I'd much rather watch a flawed person become a good one than another Kirito clone.
I think you’re reaching a bit here. If we are talking about the same scene. Eris definitely didn’t “put him in his place” I think MT handled the perverted scenes very badly. If they just went a little harder on making those scenes a bit less comedic then there would be no problem.
@@David-du4mj Eris put him in his place so much that he continually tries to watch her bathe naked even after that . Yep she sure scared him. I love how everyone's defense if "Well he didnt actually do those bad things" yeah no shit not because he realized it was wrong but because someone else intervened for him.
Happy Nightmares Medical? I’m just saying that the show would be much less controversial if the perverted scenes were slightly less comedically portrayed. If Eris had just pushed him away and been mad for a short amount of time then that would’ve been much better.
Someone please help me understand, because I genuinely want to love this series. WHY is the mc the way they are in the first place, and why is it a huge element of the story that is constantly present and not particularly demonized? Does he not have intercourse with very young girls while being mentally very old? His pedophilic tendencies are never portrayed or presented to us as something downright vile. It’s either played off as a joke or just outright neutral. I want to understand. HOW do I justify this so that I can enjoy this show without question?
theres no justification, in the light novel he got caught masturbating to his 10yo niece that he took vids of in the bath with a secret camera thats why he got thrown out by his family. author eventually changed this due to negative backlash but the whole show/thing still is full of this, can tell how author is
Have you watched the show? It should explain most of your questions, but if you can't bother watching it before getting some justification I can do a somewhat quick tl:dr. Basically he was an incel shut-in in his previous life with very shallow and damaging views. Then he gets reincarnated and gets a second life, a second chance at life. And ofcourse with that background he's a total shitstain for most of the show, but that's kinda the point. He was a bad guy in his previous life, he won't magically become a saint just because he got reincarnated and the the show is basically him learning to become a human being while also exploring an interesting world. So, if you like fantasy and you don't need to self-insert yourself in the main character to enjoy the show then you should atleast give it a try. Of course you may still not like it or be put off enough in the beginning to not want to see the rest and feeling that way is totally okay, you can have different boundraries or preferences when it comes to media than others. But the important thing to understand is that the overwhelming majority of people who enjoy mushoku tensei do so because it has great story telling and worldbuilding, great characters and character development, not to mention stellar production quality. They don't enjoy it because they like how rudeus acted in beginning, cuz that shit is supposed to be off-putting, it's what makes his character development so satisfying. Still he takes a while to get better, not even in season 2 is he up to par.
@@banan6216 I feel like the show never brings much attention to the moral train wreck of his actions in THAT scene with Eris near the end of the first season. It was all emotional with no undertones of the gravity of what he was doing. Idk, I like the show don’t get me wrong.
@@banan6216 blud no matter what you say you can't justify his actions. He was mentally 40 yrs old at the time when had intercourse with two young girls. It's a pedophilic behaviour you can't justify that. It's like saying a pedophile should be forgiven for what he did just because he's nice now. And f**k the storytelling. I can't stand to see this disgusting excuse of a main character. I have watched this anime upto season 2. No matter what you say, MC is the reason who is holding back the show for me. Everything else is fine. Only if this fodder didn't exist.
Idk how people still get surprised about rudys behavior we literally saw him beat his meat and not attending his parents funeral before he got reincarnated
The web novel’s first sentence is literally him recalling that he was jacking it to the most disgusting loli hentai imaginable. He is the worst and embodiment of everything wrong in a person possible. So, it makes sense for this story to be about him becoming the best a person could become.
@@frankwest5388 if I recall correctly, that was his neice on the monitor when he was kicked out right? I remember someone telling me that, but haven't read it myself.
@@raykings5244 Yes probably because of 2014 cp ban in japan but so cannot just retcon something so horrible especially when it is literally the catalyst of the whole show. Retconning because the author was scared does not seem very genuine.
The person that Rudy was in his previous life was emotionally stunted in his mid-teens. His parents acted as enablers and sheltered him from the world. After that twenty years, long isolation and spiral down the japanize decadence scene just twisted his view to the extreme. He just didn't know how to act in front of people and is caught in his own bubble. For me, he should have been both socially awkward and a deviant. My gripe is he easily developed a silver tongue and it's written off as an experience. He doesn't have experience in dealing with such things. It just highlights the contrast between those two things, one that he overcame and the other which became his character flaw, which slowly went away. For me, this is good dive into the exploration of trauma and regrets. Also, once he sees that he had overstepped he doesn't do it again. I mean if he truly was a deplorable person he could have completely ditched everybody in Turning point 1. He could have spent money in a brothel or bought a slave and groomed it to live out his harem fantasies. He is in essence a good guy who was twisted by the series of f*** ups in his past life and somewhat, this can be viewed as his first true life.
your opinion is understandable but I cannot forgive any attempted actions or actions like that even if you have bad events. People have grown up in worse situations in real life and chose not to repeat the actions of bad people or do bad actions, instead they chose to be a better person. Its human nature not to be attracted to children so in my opinion its irredeemable. Its also weird they chose to make smt like that a plot point it was unneeded
Completely agree. I'm of the opinion that you can drop a show for any reason you want and it's fine. It is your free time afterall, you should be able to do what you want with it. But pretending like everyone who watches and enjoys the show supports the actions of an MC by default is just dumb and unrealistic
It's just that when people portray it as "This perfect show that achieved perfection, best show ever" It gives of the vibe that people think those bad scenes are okay. Where IMO those scenes are not okay, but everything else is.
Majority of the fans justify MC actions. Go on reddit and start a thread about Rudy being wrong. Ofc when people say "if you like the show you support pedophilia" is just generalizing the fan base, ofc there are fans who likes the show cos of other things maybe Roxy but these are the minority. Rudy set up a camera to spy on his 10 years old niece is plain wrong. And he continues similar pedophilia actions throughout the anime. Just because he does it less often DOES NOT MEAN he is redeemed. above 70% of the time you will see fans defend his actions by saying he is actually just a kid. Again, please go on reddit and say rudy actions are wrong, they will give you a whole essay on why it is not wrong and these actions are actually acceptable.
@@anomonyus-57 Bro. That's only in the web novel not in the official LN. Web Novels are usually drafts/ads for authors when they finally get to publish their LNs officially. My problem with Rudeus is that the people around him didn't seem to punish him more for him being fucking creepy. Like all the times he was predatory around Eris, she stuck with him? The most he got was a slap? that shit doesn't fly with me. he basically got off scott free.
Had to scroll way too far to find this. I like Mushoku Tensei but this is what’s actually problematic here, something that far too many people on the other side of the fence aren’t able to recognize when comparing to other media.
@@Frogg231 honestly just glad to hear that someone else shares the same concerns as I do lol. The argument is always 'rudeus isnt supposed to be a good person' but i've never heard people talk about how the people around him treat him despite that..

Ah yeah one thing, rudy being a creep also his childish personality, that maybe can answer some of your confusing. I already knew that some question like this. If you feel doubt , i already read the novels, not SPOILERS, some people may give a false information here.
You know mushoku tensei is good for me because of the world building And i think that if the anime followed any charecter from the cast it would have still been good But following an actual morally wrong yet not evil charecter and seeing him grow is captivating And i think that i could relate to rudy with alot of things, not all the wierd stuff , but wanting to move forward and not being able to ,and observing as your life grows worse and worse and seeing the path you should take but not having the power to move down that path But of course people focused on him being perverted because stories of bad charecters should somehow not be bad now
"I know a lot of people can't get into a show unless they project themselves into the main character, and that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that" *Grant lied as naturally as he breathed*
I quit watching Mushoku Tensei after a few episodes in my first try because I was hella uncomfortable with Rudy's thoughts and my experience with sexist webnovels told me that the attitude of all the nasty men around him would all be accepted and proven right by the narration. Then I started again after watching gigguk's recomendation video, which-- BEST decision ever. (SPOILERS) The scene that first convinced me was when Rudy was about to touch Eris but stopped after seeing her sleeping while hugging her new wand and ring, because I realised that Rudy had gotten the first inkling that what he was doing wasnt exactly right. And what REALLY got to me was my disgust about the treatment of the beastgirl maids being vindicated by the season 2 beastpeople arc, and the fact that Rudeus had to face the reality of how beastmaids are "made" and how he had wanted a haremfull of them a few years ago. By the time I finished the anime, I genuinely felt that if Eris' scummy dad offered to tie her up for Rudy's pleasure after the two seasons of growing up Rudy experienced, Rudy would be mad as hell, unlike his lukewarm rejection when it actually happened. The character developement of this guy who had never actually interacted with women as anything but characters somehow learning that they are people even though he's living amongst some of the literally most terrible men in the world (not ruijerd tho he's great, and the dad is EVENTUALLY okay) is just so so good its insane. (END SPOILERS) So I don't get why people claim its a sign of bad character to like this show. I feel like it should be the opposite-- if someone has watched this show in good faith and finished it without complaining about Rudeus's change or the way that the girls around him are actual characters with lives and their own ambitions and their understandably unpredictible sides, it should be a sign that yeah, they're a decent human being. Anyways, rant over! If you managed to read this far, good for you lmao Support me in begging the studio for a third season soon. And thank you Gigguk for convincing me to give Mushoku Tensei another chance. It deserved one.
As someone who have read the complete WN let me tell you that mushoku tensei's main message isn't supporting pedophilia or grooming. It is all about family, how a family and loved ones can change a person, how precious family is, he had mainy failures and was almost giving up his loved ones and people whom he made connections with save him. i hope more people understand it's greatness.
I honestly never understood the hate since I dont see any sexism or racism or anything of the sort, like sure he thinks of doing bad stuff but I dont remember him ever going through with it, especially as a manga reader
Who said that fictional stories have to be comfortable? The purpose of art is to question our assumptions about the world around us. To argue otherwise is to be a propagandist.
The whole point of the story is watching a despicable person take advantage of a second chance at life and slowly grow into a better person. And yet if you say the story is good, that apparently means you think all the despicable things are good! Even though the entire story is about him growing and no longer being despicable!!!

People are stupid. Yeah, Rudy does some messed up stuff in the beginning. That's the point. He's a messed up person who wasted his entire life and developed unhealthy attitudes and interests in his isolation. In his second life, he learns from his mistakes and grows as a person. The anime has only gotten through volume 6. anime-only viewers and people crusading against the anime haven't seen anything yet.
The anime treats his pedo shit as a comedic releif skit and he never has any repercussions or consequences for his disgusting behaviour. It glorifies it. Keep seething chud

Yeah I don't have a problem with heavy themes, but they're handled without much respect in this anime. It's fine for Rudy to be a terrible person but half the time the scene and framing treats its like he's just being a lovable rascal.
It's framed like average fanservice in any other show, which makes it almost laughably contradictory to the point of Rudy as a character. It was just disappointing for me personally, I like the concept, bad execution. Everything else was great but just that to me ruined the show.

Never figured pedophilia was character development But as giguk said, I’m not saying people support the action, but at least condemn it, you can’t just ignore the pedo shit to sing the graces of the show, that’s called denial. @@TigerzEye11 @fabiangr3297 No it does not, the main character, a pedophile, is portrayed as the good guy and a hero. His father, a rapist, is also portrayed as a good guy. Being a literal pedophile and harming kids while you're disguised as a kid yourself is portrayed as a slight character flaw, that one can simply fix by "becoming a better person" (which he never becomes as he ends up marrying the kids that he groomed). And SA is played of as jokes and gags throughout the show. NOT ONCE has this show condemnd any of these actions, neither does the novel. If you can ignore ALL of that for the sake of the "plot" (the plot being a pedohpile getting all his sick desires fulfilled while none of his victims know that he's an actual grown man) then you are deadass weird. Ain't nobody give a fuck that he was bullied, being bullied does not turn any normal person into a pedophile.
This is honestly a stupid "controversy" If you're uncomfortable watching Mushoku Tensei then drop it, but that doesn't say anything about the quality of the anime itself nor the character of those who do watch it.
It's ties well into the weird culture in japan about sexualizing young girls that is very prevalent in anime. I think's it's completely okay to perceive it that way and wanting to fight against that toxic and probably dangerous worldview. Personally I couldn't get past it in the anime since when I red the web novel many years ago, it never got any better and just got worse and worse. I hope they can do it better in the anime.
@@arnarogbjorn be that as it may, he was reincarnated and therefore started again from 0 as far as I'm concerned. So imo I don't see that as grooming, since he is the same age. And I still stand by my statement that he doesn't pursue children in the future.
@@kylominogo WHAT? You think because his physical age is the same, that makes it ok? I don't think we could come to an agreement on that, so let's just agree to disagree.
When I started season 2, I only just realized that the theme of Mushoku Tensei was "People can change". Characters are introduced to have certain traits. But later in the story, they would improve their attitude, or they would reveal their backstory, and the truth behind their "wrongdoings" only for use to realize that it was the right thing to do after all.
Having read the Light Novels through volume 15, and finished with the WebNovels, I think that even more than about people being able to change, It's a story about family, and why it's important to treasure them even if they're imperfect. By the End of the story, not even Rudeus would say he's a Saint. He's certainly no longer the human Scum he once was, but he's still got plenty of flaws and emotional trauma he'll carry with him for the rest of his life. Of course, people changing and growing is a part of life, but at the same time, nobody is perfect, and try as hard as they might, they can still hurt people without even meaning to.

Probably the most vanilla opinion (but whatever): To be as most unbiased as possible, the story of mushoku tensei including aspects such as magic, the languages and the world itself are actually quite interesting, which is primarily why I originally started the show. The only problem is while I understand some characters, like Rudy, need time to change and become better it is at the same time very jarring to keep watching while he keeps on pulling this weird shit so often. Obviously I'm not saying that people who enjoy the show are pedos as you would really have to have a screw loose to think that, however once again as an unbiased bystander there are definitely parts of the show that make it understandable why you might hesitate to keep on watching instead of just dropping it and moving on.
im glad that people like this R rated anime. People have to realize its not a shounen but a seinen and they have to have different expectations for the MC because they are not gonna be normal.
@@Drippinonyou Exactly. They need to realize that a main character isn't necessarily lovable just because they're a main character. It's a tough concept for some people, that a show's quality can extend beyond having a heroic or relatable main character. It is a real character. And real characters aren't always as you'd fantasize them to be. Mushoku makes a great deal about having real characters, not "good" characters. All characters have flaws of varying type and degree, but ultimately these flaws end up supporting the depth of the show, because whenever an interaction happens, you realize that it doesn't come from a superficial surface-level resolve or mindset. It is always deep rooted - both for good and bad.
Trying to remove the "problematic" aspects from MT would not make it a better show. It would be like removing a murder from a murder mystery story to sanitize it. Fundamentally, MT is about Rudy's journey and him trying to make the best of his second chance. However, being born again doesn't just mean you are now a completely different person. Changing yourself is an immensely difficult and time-consuming process. MT makes people uncomfortable and inspires instinctive disgust towards Rudy. That's fine and is fair, Rudy is a disgusting human being in many ways. But he is still trying to be better, and most of the meat of Mushoku is that struggle of a piece of shit trying to change. The series wouldn't have been "better" for the removal of Rudy's faults, it would have just been more shallow and bland. But yes, also more accessible. Accessibility is not always a positive, though.
I get the meat of it but from what the readers have surmised - Rudy only stops being a pedophile when the three wives stop being underage. Growth as a character doesn’t seem to be a lot of growth if he gets to have his cake and eat it. How much growth could there be if he’s still grooming these kids? I’m not looking for an argument or dismissing you, I just think it’s bad faith to say ‘he’s going through character growth, so what he’s a pedo’. I can understand the point of his growth but has he really grown?
@@adlanhaziq Yes he does stop being a pedophile even before his three wives. If he was still a pedophile, you would see him grooming the servant of Zanoba but he didn't because he actually grew.
i Mean you do not need to make a pedo to make an unlikable character for them to have a redemption story. He never even makes up for it at all in the show the pedo stuff in ep 1 is just a footnote and the author tried to retcon it later because probably because cp got banned in japan year 2014. Everybody ignores this aspect becasue 0 of the rudy defenders have succesfully explained why this is a problem som even tried to defend pedos. What he did in episode 1 is the catalyst for the whole story and is something thats looms over the whole show esp when he tries to molest other characters that are of lesser age. When I finished reading Mushoku Tensei WN, I think of Rudy as "he feels like a friend I ve known for a long time". When I first saw that they were going to do an anime for MT (something I called impossible because has too much internal dialogue) first thing I thought was "Congrats, Rudy, you made it!". I know he is not real, but my brain just *"felt happy for my dear friend getting recognition"*
3:53 BrianMX: "Become a better person? As an LN reader... not really." I mean, yeah.. you're not wrong. He's still pervert, but that doesn't mean that becoming a better person changes 100% of your personality

That dude speaking bullshit by the fact that rudy chose to put his live in danger for his family already make him infinity times better than rudy previous lives wtf
He's not a "pervert", he's a pedofile which is his worst character flaw and isn't resolved at the end. So a story about redemption and becoming a better person doesn't resolve the worst flaw of the character, a masterpiece of a redemption story amirite
Great take. The show has a lot of things going for it, and if you enjoy the show for those things, cool. If you're put off by the pedophilia/grooming stuff at the beginning, also cool. The debate about how the show portrays and handles those things is legitimate and interesting. The issues around the discourse come from the people at the extremes of both sides, where you have people claiming Rudy doesn't do anything wrong, and then you have those who say if you enjoy the show it's because of pedophilic wish fulfillment. Both are wrong.
Don't get where the philia comes into play from watching it. 🤣 Can get Rudeus unintentionally conditioning Sylphy to be dependent on him if he'd stayed... But philia? He showed no intrest in his younger siblings-who are the only characters that I can think of that'd fit that. If there were other prepubescent characters that he was being weird towards I feel like it'd just be his perversion. Internet masses to media broadening the applicability of the term, changing the defined disorder, doesn't make Rudeus somehow have a fixated interest in prepubescent characters. As much as people don't want to admit it, covering it up with purity, preteens are dirty minded... So I can't see his thoughts **at that point** as widely out of norm-his mind and quirks might have carried over, but his body is still developing, including his brain-only instances where he's acting on it. 🤣
people are not weird for liking the anime but they are fucked for liking that part of the anime, idc if the main character was bullied or anything if you like children you can go straight to hell in my opinion its irredeemable
i saw Rudy as a mix of the narrator voice and the body he was isekai'd to. he sometimes reacts like a child. the narrator voice also has lines getting Sylphiette wrong, and child Rudy is very upset at the incident. It doesn't really read to me that the narrator knew and was going for it with a girl, then pretended when he was caught. Or maybe the narrator knew, and felt guilty for it when he saw how it hurt Sylphiette. That's a balanced character.
About Rudy's past life, he is 34 years old, but his mind is still a 15-16 year old kid and has locked himself in his room for more than 15 years. As for the current Rudy, even if he had the memories of a 30 year old, he couldn't make him act like a 30 year old guy. When "reincarnated" as a child, it also means that he will learn everything from scratch and the memory of his past life only helps Rudy absorb and learn faster than a normal child. And about love, he will only be interested in girls of the same age as him (physical age) and when he matures he will love mature girls.
People fail to understand that Rudeus's mind is fairly underdeveloped when it comes to certain things, and he's actually surprisingly daft when it comes to women,as emphasized when he struggled to offer Roxy encouragement or when he had no idea how to adress Slyphy after finding out she was a girl
I think it's ok Rudy is a shitty person - it makes for a somewhat believable character. However the author makes some of this stuff extra egregious. He has at times had pretty unneeded scenes of sexualizing children without even using it as a vessel of showing Rudy being a shitty person or even character growth. Some of it is pretty blatant fanservice and it's gross. The show outside of that is amazing though.
How dare you legitimately point out obvious shortcomings of the story. We're here to pretend that the amount of backlash it recieved is solely because the prudes and outsiders picked an easy target, not because a lot of people found author went a little overboard at points which prevented many people from enjoying the story to its fullest.
As a society, our tendency to pass extremely heavy-handed judgement on any person that lays a hand on children compared to any other crime is something I've been thinking about for some time now. This drama is a microcosm of this and the toxicity stems from our inherent dislike towards sexual harm done towards the young. In this situation however, it blinds some people into taking extreme viewpoints.
I would say that its not something that applies to ALL crimes involving children. It is rather related to eroticism or se8uality in relation to kids, and more specifically from a man towards a woman. If the protagonist were Eris trapped in the body of a child interacting with a child Rudeus, there would be a bit of controversy but it wouldn't be so generalised and paranoid.
For what its worth, I THINK I get what youre saying. People treat that kind of crime, or behavior as if its literally the worst thing a human can do. And even though it is very high on the list of bad things, its like the view on it is so bad that many people can't look at anything relating to it from a more critical standpoint. In mushoku tensei, I 100% agree that Rudeus did/said some things that made me uncomfortable. One part of me wants to give it a pass because he's technically a kid as well....but at the same time hearing a 30 whatever year olds voice say "I'll grow her into my perfect woman" about a girl whos probably 11 just really didnt sit right with me at all. So some parts of that will always be uncomfortable, but it doesn't mean the show cant be good or have something to say. In a somewhat similar vein, there's that Cuties movie. It had a message, but couldve been delivered in a different way; because most who saw it, couldn't see past the in your face shock factor to see what was being said. Short break for anyone possibly about to flame me for that last sentence. I'm not defending that movie. Just saying that the movie had a message, and delivered said message in a poor manner that most (me included) were uncomfortable by for reasons completely understandable. So uncomfortable that most people couldnt see the message.. Mushoku tensei on the other hand definitely delivered its story in a more palpable manner, but sadly many people can't look past sensitive subject matter to see whats going on like with the Shield Hero anime as well. None of the media I mentioned was trying to glorify the bad things in them, but people are so sensitive about these topics they assume the mere inclusion counts as glorification or admittance of support ot guilt. Theres nothing wrong about not wanting to watch something that makes you uncomfortable...but it's not really ok to call it bad, or condemn the creator, or those who were able to enjoy other aspects of it, when you couldn't even see enough to have an opinion other than "it made me uncomfortable".
People are trying to deny that Rudi's degeneracy was partially caused by the kids who shunned him. They also have a problem with the show suggesting that Rudi would've turned into a great guy if he had the proper upbringing and guidance. The way haters talk about Rudi is like how religious people talk about gays: very focused on purging them and refusing to see them as human beings.
The kind of characters I like the most, are the ones that are flawed from the beginning because they are the kind of characters that have the most to be redeemed and the most evolution to go through. I really hate Rudy's messed up part and that is exactly the point. You are supposed to hate it so that the writer can make the character evolve past these messed up parts. I still really hate the creepy, sex assault parts of the show though, but the show itself and the evolution of Rudy are just incredibly well constructed.
seeing a character develop & characters around him develop is a story within itself. It’s great :) Love rudy & his party, great group of decently likeminded individuals.
@@Velereonics Peace mate, I'm not your enemy. No, I didn't. It was a really small part of the show, mostly prevalent at the start, when he was a bottom of society thrash. It's a typical japanese story targeting their declining population of perverts to grow. And it's a popular adaptation to heart at an old enough source. Their internal politics differ massively to ours. None of our localisation dramas frankly concern me. It's honestly all a popularity wave of people who do not understand the impact of where that media comes from.
To put things into perspective Kono Suba is more much more 'vile', but when it aired anime wasn't as popular and there was no drama surrounding a good show.
@@hristopavlov298 Importantly all the characters there are kids. The goddess is I guess infinite years old but all 3 look and act like kids, teens at the oldest. I don't think that's a good comparison. A better one, but not perfect, is Reincarnated as an Aristocrat. He's very much an adult with all his memories. But he doesn't molest any of the kids in his world and when he is romantic with one, it's portrayed as sinister. He's manipulating them so that he can achieve his aims. I actually do have an issue with something in that show which you can prob guess if you've seen it but it's not a perfect comparison either.
After reading the entire novel and all of it’s spin offs this entire controversy seems so silly. All of this world building, all of these plot lines slowly building up in the background, the history of the world and all the cultures. There is so much more to the story and world this shit seems so insignificant, so much drama for a single character in this world. Rudeus’s story is literally just building a pathway for a future conflict that is so beyond him. And y’all are stuck on his mindset when he is still only 12 years old.
the entire story is literally a redemption arc and what those ppl don't realise is that in order to redeem yourself as a person you need to be a shitty one beforhand
I just don't get why critics of the series saw Mushoku Tensei as a promoter of the stuff that they point out as I saw Rudy getting beat up when he does bad stuff to Eris, Pax Shirone getting punished by Roxy for touching and not tolerating what Elinalise has done when finding Paul's family. Hell, even Paul got repirmanded by his son ( who was supposed to lack he knowledge and wisdom of handling marital issues) and by Zenith who didn't put to it by restrained herself from expulsing Lilia as its very bad and treated her as family. They can't even point out the characters as having personalities and awareness that things were done to them and they're not putting up to it. All in all, the contorverisal and bad stuff being pointed out in Mushoku Tensei does happen but the characters don't let it happen and they don't point to it. Just look at when Rudy and Ruijerd helped the kidnapped people who were about to be sold for whatever evil purposes and Paul helping his displaced co-villagers during the Mana Calamity.
I don't have a problem with heavy themes, but they're handled without much respect in this anime. It's fine for Rudy to be a terrible person but half the time the scene and framing treat it like he's just being a lovable rascal. That's my main criticism and I feel like it's unfair to portray everyone who doesn't like the show as someone who can't handle the gross scenes. I don't have a problem with anyone who enjoys the show and most certainly don't think everyone who does is a pedophile. Just my opinion.
@@altruisticlemur i think they just thingking rudy was a prodigy so they love them, i mean, the people on that world was almost fucked up, and seeing rudy basically like doing anything and dont really care. It's some flaw to the story. But now season 2 is announced so wait to see what happen next.
The problem with Rudeus is that his perverted nature is never treated as a flaw, it’s treated as very comedic. People like Light while being a terrible person is still liked since he’s actions are treated as being terrible whereas when Rudeus touched Eris while she was sleeping, it’s not treated as disgusting or reprehensible but just a funny moment. The author even said that he’s perverted nature would never change, in other words people saying that he will actually develop and stop being a pervert are liars. I read through it and while he does get development, he’s pedophilia is never questioned at all and it’s treated as a joke.
There's a lot of things about Rudeus that make him an amazing character. His personality is one of them, but not in the way most people would agree with. I believe that characters need a purpose and set path to take in order to be great characters. In the case of Rudeus, his purpose is overcoming the mental and social problems he gained through trauma in his past life, and his path to that is simply living the best life he can as Rudeus Greyrat. Making full use of the world to mature and drop his disgusting tendencies is how MT displays both parts of what a great character looks like. His perverted and offputting personality at the start is a great starting point because it makes his progress all that more tangible and satisfying. I think it's acceptable for people to not want to watch the show due to his actions, but it's still a great show.
I don't need to be able to project myself onto a protagonist to be able to enjoy a show, but I at least need to find a protagonist interesting or enjoy watching them in some way. And, for what it's worth, that wasn't the case for Rudy with me. I did watch the first season and I did like it, but not enough to return for a second season. I do agree with Garnts opinion tho.
If you hate Rudy that's ok even the people that love the show me included hate him for being a pervert but I am still watching it cuz there's something special about the show I am not talking about the animation, music and world building I am talking about the story. A story about a NEET, a messed up man, that got a second chance in life and were here the audience watch him taking that second chance to be a better person and change. Don't expect Rudy to change suddenly and become a better person, There's no man like that exist. Mushoku tensei is just mature, interesting I love how the author fearlessly write this flawed character even though writing a character like this is like making a big controversy that will ruined the popularity of his show. In my perspective: I love the show because the op music is good, every animation is outstanding and consistent even a little piece of bread in the show is amazingly animated its a little on far with wit studio or better (Wit fans arise), the attention to detail is good, the world building is amazing its one of the best world building I've seen and of course the character development, I've seen better character development in other show but the character in this show has so many space to grow specialy Rudy because he's the most flawed character in the show using flawed character make character development Interesting... And No I am not supporting incest. To be simple.. I hate Rudy but I am rooting for him to change.. The point... I want you to understand rudy and have faith in him to change... You don't need to watch it(not saying rudely) if you feel it's not for u , but others might have different perspectives and maybe are okay with this type of story since they fully realize that it's fictional and not real . Not to mention we all know except the main character everything in this anime is without a debate 10/10 . But it's up to people to like it or not like it but try to understand others'perspectives as well . Thank you , btw have you ever watched Re:Zero (anime)or The Beginning after the End (manga), if not try them . The beginning after the end is literally mushoku tensei but without the disgusting stuffs .
The difference is that in Mushoku Tensei the pedophilia isn't even seen as weird, aka the uncle insinuating that Rudeus and the other girl should have sex after that dance scene. In HunterXhunter it's clear that the author is portraying Hisoka as obviously creepy
Lmao, that has to be the worse reason I've seen to justify pedophilia, if you mean the age in which the show took place It would kind of make sense, but the main character isn't originally from there and the way the author displays it clearly makes it seem he doesn't see being a pedo as bad
If you've read the light novels you could understand that the whole theme of the story is "people can change". Assume that the most gigachad character you meet if they have no flaws, have flaws. And if you see a disgusting character that seems irredeemable, they will be redeemed like.... If you've watched Season 1, do you know Pax? The spoiled brat that Roxy tutored? Characters like that get insane redemption like holy fuck. If your first impression of a character is bad, they are probably a good character. If your first impression of a character is that they are good with little flaws, they are probably fucked up.
People love using Eren/Light as an example of MCs doing bad things, completely forgetting that they are the VILLAINS of their series. Rudy is THE HERO.
The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat was running at the same time and the mc legit loves his cousin like come on its not on the same level but no one batted and eye about that
Lugh in love with his cousin is by far the most vanilla shit from this show. Mc kills people, "examines" the 2 little girls he actually brainwashed into killers once per month, and many other shits. Yet, as you said, no one gave a shit about it
They would never help actual kids. So they attack a work of fiction to distract themselves from their own worthless lives, and pretend they are some kind of hero.
And then Rudeus went and bought a slave and didn't have much of a problem with it (which is inconsistent with how he felt about the beast people slaves)
There is a difference between showing that there is this kind of problem in the world and "gloryfying" or "supporting" it. Main point in my opinion is how other characters react to this. And with Rudy almost always when he makes something wierd he gets "punished" for that or its showed specifically to make you feel gross about it.
to the supposed "LN readers" in chat that said he doesn't improve from his horniness, being horny in a proper healthy relationship is a different thing and i think you're just projecting yourself.
My issue is not with Rudeus having flaws, my issue is with the anime being so explicit with its fanservice. It makes Rudeus' growth feel hollow when the anime revels in showing us explicit scenes. If those scenes still happened but we as viewers didn't see the panty shots, I think people would be having a completely different conversation.
this is exactly the problem I had with the show. The show isn't neutral about pedophilia once it uses fanservice. Fanservice is meant to literally promote something to its fans. Rudy can still be a creep and that still works well with the story, but like the panty shots - that isn't meant for Rudy, that's meant for the audience to look at and take pleasure in. When Rudy and Eris get kidnapped and Eris gets beaten to a pulp, that doesn't promote that hitting little girls is ok. And there is no controversy about that scene. But if there were to be a close up shot in that scene of Eris heavily breathing after getting beaten or something that's supposed to excite the audience, then it would be marketing that concept to the fans.
It's like from rudeus POV, he seen everything in "egregious" way so the fanservice have to follow his POV to make it real even tho it's kinda annoying for me to watch it with my family
This is exactly it. It just saddens me, that such a great show, with so much potential would just randomly delve into pedophilia like it's no big deal, and almost try and normalize it to a degree. There really is no reason for that, without that shit, the show would be a 10/10. Like they could've made the main character evolve in so many different ways, EVEN with the pedophilia thing, they could've hinted at it and explained it by "Hey, it is weird, but he is kind of a kid right now, so he needs to figure this shit out", WITHOUT ACTUALLY MAKING HIM ACT ON IT. Him literally groping every female character he comes accross, no matter the age, is a very weird thing for a show to invest in. So no, it's not about "him developing and maturing as a person", cause he does that anyway, in multiple ways, not just in the fact that he becomes less of a pedophile. The show in all other regards could've been a classic, the animation is just pure beauty. The story although plain, is alright. The characters are interesting and have great character development. Soundtrack is marvelous. I watched it, and even enjoyed it quite a bit. Doesn't change the fact that it went from my potential top 20 anime to a "fun watch if theres nothing else" because of the focus on fan service, underage nudity and sex, and pedophilia.
as someone who's reading light novel after the anime, I can understand why people dont like Rudy, he is such a piece of garbage of a person even after later volumes, but it keeps me going because its a part of how MT tells the story, and the slowly world building in the background, characters development, how the plot moving forwards is actual insane that I would say its a masterclass of an isekai, next arc in the anime will show how the REAL mushoku is like, and it will gets even crazier from there. Still, I would say some Rudy action still makes me disgusted and makes me puke, and thats part of the story.
It’s because people is trying to relate this fantasy world to ours. What made this show so good is portraying a world with different values, morales, and principles. When Philip told Rudy to use protection, that sentence alone made me realise this was no longer earth, this was a world with different views to life. Where to them, sex is sex and that’s it. It is a realistic story to the world of Mushoku Tensei, just not to our world. I’m NOT supporting pedophilia in anyway shape or form. But it’s just like trying to convince someone from a completely different world or universe that wrong is right, and right is wrong, when for them the opposite is true. So you should not put your values and morales onto the show, and just enjoy the story for what it is.
Also i am not the biggest fan of "well you like vegeta even though he tried to blow up the planet" also vegeta wasnt trying to diddle children. If he did that i dont anyone would eant to be a vegeta fan but i wonder why doesnt. Maybe cause the creator of dragon ball wasnt a weirdo.

As an LN/WN reader, I look forward to seeing S2 and especially S3. But I know for a fact, that the controversy regarding his behaviour in S1 is nothing compared to the controversy we will see in the future. If Twitter got heated over childhood arc Rudeus, they will have a nuclear meltdown over the events that come in V10, V13 and V15.
I’ve got the best take here! Watch the show, enjoy the fantasy story and be happy for once because that will never happen to you. Then once you’re done come back to reality where everything sucks and everyone are always fighting over things that aren’t true or don’t even happen.
Isn't this like the 12.000th time we have to say these things because people want to cancel a story for having bad things happen in them ? Like how fucking fragile do you have to be to want all fiction to get rid of characters having flaws ? Maybe that's why nowadays we have this wave of new "heroes" that are perfect from frame one and that don't need any journey to be amazing, because they're so clean and not problematic that everyone is forced to love them, along with antagonists that never actually do anything really evil, unless it's cancelled right after for cheap suspense.
The greater discussion, at least, the good faith discussion is on how Rudeus improved. On the type of character development that happened. Was it enough to offset the controversial or suspect content and qualities of his character? Is there justification to include, what was it, the alleged "child grooming" and "pedophilia" in the story? Both as a narrative tool and aspect of the character. Not unlike the continued conversation over whether or not it is justifiable to include rape scenes in fiction. It's a difficult question to answer. I don't have one. The only metrics I can come up with is "is it played just for (cheap) shock value" and "is it appealing to fetish bait".
Holy shit, i never acknowledged rudy as creep person before, maybe because his appereance. But i forgot that he is 40 years full grown man. The story just cover the creepiness and thats why its so enjoyable to watch. Maybe if i rewatch it i may have different experience.
the thing is he isnt 40, he restarted in short terms with only memories he is mentally a child we see this through his mistakes and actions and his immaturity when he should be mature from the trauma and obviously physically its like if you or me died and went back to a child with only memories again it would basically be the same just with more experience in some shit
@@leonardovavassori5556 this is a very important distinction that I feel like a lot of people aren't grasping. His maturity didn't reset when he was reincarnated, he was just immature to begin with at the time of reincarnation. It is made very clear from the outset that he has his full adult faculties from the moment of rebirth even if his new body hasn't caught up yet. We have the context to know that a lot of what he's doing is reprehensible, doubly so because everyone else around him is unaware that he is mentally a grown man taking advantage of everyone's ignorance. He is shown as his true self in his conversations with the God of Humanity to remind us that he is not a child, and that he himself is well aware of it. People writing off his behavior with some nonsense about his mental maturity resetting because he's in child's body is incredibly unsettling because it means they're missing the whole point. You are not supposed to write off his behavior. A lot of what he has done is not okay and he has only taken baby steps thus far to even remotely redeem himself.
Bro I just can't. I'm trying to watch an anime and connect to the MC, Rudeus is so far out there in the unreacheable depths of degeneracy (and I consider myself somewhat numbed to this stuff by now) that I just can't see him as a protagonist I should support. I can watch evil people just fine, but a morally deranged sexual predator and pedo is just not what I want for my MC in a saturday afternoon.
That's fair and understandable, the problem is when people try to attack others who are able to stomach this kind of degeneracy for the sake of a good story.

The novel explains so so so much more of this, its great
a part of maturing is experience in the real world, one of the reasons the age of consent is where it is

"treat women as people more than sexual objects"
You sound like someone that doesn't understand life or human nature at all.
@@KaoruSugimura ? bro like not only is most of your stuff not consistent with actual psychology. But dude, please look at the comment you replied to, how much you replied, and what you said and self-reflect. Dog you seem unhinged bro relax.
I do hope I have some understanding of human nature as I am a university student studying psychology and philosophy! Though I agree we are all objectified at many points in our life, I think the issue is simply seeing someone in a sexual light and disregarding the complicated personalities people have is A. Not normal B. Not ok and kinda sad. The fact is at the begging he objectified women as he thought it was some kind of game and he also just seemed to have a very unhealthy attitude towards women, focusing on just if not mainly the physical and not the emotional side.
But he is a pedo bro 😩

Very true, lessons can be learned from this anime and even the worst characters can have redemption.

I’d love to see your take then.
(Slight Spoilers Below)
Literally every single significant character in the show is shown to have character flaws that they all improve upon throughout the course of the first season alone.

The point of Rudy's character is to us seeing him overcome his ghost from the previous life and be relatable to hikikomoris

Someone please help me understand, because I genuinely want to love this series. WHY is the mc the way they are in the first place, and why is it a huge element of the story that is constantly present and not particularly demonized?
Garnt gained a lot of my respect because of this
The person that Rudy was in his previous life was emotionally stunted in his mid-teens.
I COMPLETELY AGREE SIR. *THANK YOU*
your opinion is understandable but I cannot forgive any attempted actions or actions like that even if you have bad events.
It's just that when people portray it as "This perfect show that achieved perfection, best show ever"
It gives of the vibe that people think those bad scenes are okay.

(END SPOILERS)
So I don't get why people claim its a sign of bad character to like this show. I feel like it should be the opposite-- if someone has watched this show in good faith and finished it without complaining about Rudeus's change or the way that the girls around him are actual characters with lives and their own ambitions and their understandably unpredictible sides, it should be a sign that yeah, they're a decent human being.

And SA is played of as jokes and gags throughout the show. NOT ONCE has this show condemnd any of these actions, neither does the novel.
To be as most unbiased as possible, the story of mushoku tensei including aspects such as magic, the languages and the world itself are actually quite interesting, which is primarily why I originally started the show.

Can get Rudeus unintentionally conditioning Sylphy to be dependent on him if he'd stayed...
This controversy is the same thing as boomers calling gamers murderers for loving the intention to kill.
people are not weird for liking the anime but they are fucked for liking that part of the anime, idc if the main character was bullied or anything if you like children you can go straight to hell in my opinion its irredeemable
i saw Rudy as a mix of the narrator voice and the body he was isekai'd to. he sometimes reacts like a child. the narrator voice also has lines getting Sylphiette wrong, and child Rudy is very upset at the incident.
@T elpirt also he's limited by his physical brain. He grows and matures on pace with a child minus schema development

In the light novel, rudeus is his own narrator.
First good take. Everyone else here not getting this
Thank you, preach.
Did you just say that harming children really isn't *that* bad
@@abyssalnothingness You spewed out the gaslight interpretation pretty readily.
@@bobbywhite5319 I am always ready to gaslight, #girlboss
Oh what precious snowflakes. Must be nice having a nice family and childhood
I have literally never expected this show to be controversial. Well responded
You didn't think a 30yo man, with all his memories, molesting a child would make the show controversial?
@@Velereonics In this one Roxy is a teen rest are adults, but one in a child's body
I feel you, we just have sit in the corner and eat some popcorn.
But now season 2 is announced so wait to see what happen next.
mushoku tensei simply shows how true thoughts of a person are and doesnt sugar coat anything.
If your "true thoughts" are about fucking kids get help, genuenly.
Hypothetically, if you die at 50 and somehow are reborn with your memories intact, will you date 50+ year olds while you're in a 16 year old body?
By the logic of haters one should become a monk, or indeed date only elederly people
I don't need to be able to project myself onto a protagonist to be able to enjoy a show, but I at least need to find a protagonist interesting or enjoy watching them in some way. And, for what it's worth, that wasn't the case for Rudy with me. I did watch the first season and I did like it, but not enough to return for a second season. I do agree with Garnts opinion tho.
if you at the very least liked the first season, the second season is undoubtedly worth it in my opinion. it's levels above the first
Understandable have a nice day.
the '2nd part' is so so so much better and it will only get crazier from there, I ended up reading LN because of it
If you hate Rudy that's ok even the people that love the show me included hate him for being a pervert but I am still watching it cuz there's something special about the show I am not talking about the animation, music and world building I am talking about the story.

I hate Rudy but I am rooting for him to change..

then don't watch it or interact with content around the show??
You don't need to watch it(not saying rudely) if you feel it's not for u , but others might have different perspectives and maybe are okay with this type of story since they fully realize that it's fictional and not real . Not to mention we all know except the main character everything in this anime is without a debate 10/10 . But it's up to people to like it or not like it but try to understand others'perspectives as well . Thank you , btw have you ever watched Re:Zero (anime)or The Beginning after the End (manga), if not try them . The beginning after the end is literally mushoku tensei but without the disgusting stuffs .
It’s fiction so it doesn’t really bother me. Plus the story and world-building are really good. I enjoy the anime.
The best take honestly.
Bruh, I've seen people sh*t on Mushoku Tensei for Rudy technically being a p*do, while having Hisoka be their profile pic
The difference is that in Mushoku Tensei the pedophilia isn't even seen as weird, aka the uncle insinuating that Rudeus and the other girl should have sex after that dance scene. In HunterXhunter it's clear that the author is portraying Hisoka as obviously creepy
@@lopde1290 Different societies and different sets of common sense.
It's from Trash MC->CHAD MC

Lugh in love with his cousin is by far the most vanilla shit from this show. Mc kills people, "examines" the 2 little girls he actually brainwashed into killers once per month, and many other shits. Yet, as you said, no one gave a shit about it
Some people just can't differentiate fiction from reality and that's all it boils down to.
These are exactly the kind of people who rooted for Walt in the end of Breaking Bad
The amount of people who justify this gross is absurd. Mushoku's fans is the most disgusting fandom I've ever seen so far.
Character flaws make good writing, if every story was about the same perfect person that could do no wrong we'd be bored pretty quickly
"im gonna quickly respond" for 10 minutes lol

For the antagonist he just need to kill lots to be accepted.
Maybe if i rewatch it i may have different experience.
the thing is he isnt 40, he restarted in short terms with only memories he is mentally a child we see this through his mistakes and actions and his immaturity when he should be mature from the trauma and obviously physically its like if you or me died and went back to a child with only memories again it would basically be the same just with more experience in some shit
thats what the show is about rudy regretting his old life and hating it basically his hell and him starting all over again mf hard reset his life
@@somefatkid2080 it’s not that he’s mentally a child because he got a new body, it’s that he never mentally grew in his previous one
Gigguk trying to not get cancelled while making a perfectly valid point:
Bro I just can't. I'm trying to watch an anime and connect to the MC, Rudeus is so far out there in the unreacheable depths of degeneracy (and I consider myself somewhat numbed to this stuff by now) that I just can't see him as a protagonist I should support.
Like.... How do I explain this... If the show had no isekai elements, it would be so much easier to watch. I couldn't get past the scene he tries to take Eris' underwear while she was asleep, I legit dropped it then and there. I get it, the point is that he's a terrible person and such, but man... I can watch evil people just fine, but a morally deranged sexual predator and pedo is just not what I want for my MC in a saturday afternoon.
That's fair and understandable, the problem is when people try to attack others who are able to stomach this kind of degeneracy for the sake of a good story.
