    I needed this!.. I always knew I wanted to be in the medical field!!. I started off with the direction of nursing but had a change of heart!.. Now I've made up my mind and want to be a diagnostic medical sonographer! I've did my research and noticed that I have to start off here with rad tech. Thank you so much for this information. It was very helpful!. Maybe God continue to bless you on your journey!.

    When you want to be a radiographer in Switzerland we go to school for 1.5 year and in between school periods we go to a training (1.5 years) in a hospital. After graduation we are allowed to work in diagnostic radiology (x-rays, CT, MRT, Interventions, mammography, DEXA, transilluminations) and also in the nuclear medicine and radiation therapy!

    • @evjewel
      @evjewel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I study to become a rad tech in Finland, and here we do all - mri, ct, radiation therapy, basic xray, nuclear medicine.. becoming a sonographer takes extra credits, everything else we study in the normal school program. 😊 interesting to see how the field varies between different countries!

    • @evjewel
      @evjewel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I find it so fascinating that one program could cover all those modalities. That’s amazing! Since Sonography doesn’t deal with any radiation they usually put it to the side in another program lol. I’m so excited for you and all the cool things you’re going to learn! ☺️

    I did not have to go through all those steps to start school.. but I did graduate 😀 I’m excited about that I do work at a orthopedic place. I’m Texas we do not do any contrast solution nor do we put in catheter. But that’s cool you get a better experience with things. We did not do any training in hospital or clinic we just did X-rays at the end of the class... which if we would of had the same experience that would of prepared us better for a actual clinical setting

    Awesome! I'm going the same route as you. Going into a Rad Tech program first and then later on, hopefully go in to a sonography program. The waitlist for the only accredited sonography program in my state has 600+ people on it (they only take 20 a year). But I want to get in to the healthcare world now, so I think Radiology is great place to start!

    - please what's the name of the major to become a radiologic technologist not technician ?
    - how many years do I have to study (I don't want to study a lot like 8 years like The Radiologist )?
    - can gave us un average salary for radiologic technologist for your experience ?
    - what the best path to continue for the future after you graduate from university
    MRI , CT , Ultrasound ?
    please please please answer those questions because it's really important for everyone 😊
    in the end thank you so much

      The major is radiologic technology. 2 years depending on school. I’ve seen $17 and $22 it really just depends. You can take additional schooling to get a bachelors or add another modality through schooling or on the job training. All new modalities require a new registry test. Hope this helps! ☺️

    2021 Update: The field is VERY crowded. Schools do pump out alot of students. These student (no fault of their own) compete with those who have been there 20 years plus...keeping wages shelved. The way to increase wages is to do more schooling. Example: go back to school for CT. Then for MRI etc You get the idea. But school is not cheap. And you will find other student techs that also have done this...you will compete for wages against them (it is, after all, a market place of labor). Each license/Registration costs time and money to maintain. Yes, you make more..but you also have to pay more to maintain those papers. So bottom line: Be committed to the long haul..or do not go down this road. To boot, every state has different rules..so moving is not such an easy option. Can be done, but it can but a hassle to get another state to accept your credentialing. This video was done 4 years ago..ALOT has changed since then.

    Thanks so much for this video and congrats on graduating! A quick question about radiology: When you are in school and/or on the job do you learn to actually read the pictures you take with the x-ray or is it only about taking the pictures? I have always been very fascinated with medical imaging and I’d love to some day get to the point where I could pick up pictures from my last MRI or analyze my x-ray in the ER but 9 years of med school and a radiology residency sounds really grueling to do to learn these things. Thanks for the informative video!

    Hello!! I’m interested in radiography or ultrasound as a career!! I can’t decide between the two:( can u help me provide pros and cons of both careers? I know sonography con is getting shoulder injuries with constant scanning however I was told there are more jobs for ultrasound techs? Is it common to get injuries as a radiography tech or is the radiation a threat to health?!
    Thank you!

    • @evjewel
      @evjewel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’ve don’t many videos about the requirements of both so make sure to check out my education related content to find out more. Ultrasound tech make more money and usually have less patients and more detailed work. X-rays techs have lots of portables to do and other exams and tend to make less and they aren’t involved in diagnostics to the extent of an ultrasound tech. This is just what I’ve personally witnessed so I can’t speak for everyone. Hope this helps a little! ☺️

    Hi! I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel! I'm interested in being a rad tech too but I've failed to find universities that I can transfer to to start the program. I'm from NY so you can imagine the struggle trying to transfer schools...could you tell me what school you go to? And how was the admissions process?

    • @evjewel
      @evjewel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nanah Nakimera I can't tell you my exact school for safety reasons (I still attend) but I attend a technical college in Georgia. We have what is called a COMPASS test and it just tells you what levels of English or math you will be placed in. If you score lower you'll take a remedial class before you take college level algebra and English. After that you just find a radiology advisor and find out everything you need from them. I took a senior trip to Atlanta to a radiology conference and there was a school from NY so there is something there :) Hope this helps! 😃

    Thanks for the video, very informative! I've thought about going to Rad Tech school for years but was afraid to bite the bullet, however, I want to have a career that is meaningful and helpful! I love that radiology can lead to so many other specialties; MRI really interests me the most. I've heard it can be hard to find jobs but I suppose that depends on your location, I do see them opening up more now so I would just need to get my foot in the door I guess! Do you happen to know where to get specialized training (like MRI or Ultrasound)? Is is mainly through other schools or through the hospitals themselves? Thanks again and best of luck on your new career!!

    • @evjewel
      @evjewel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kristin Kolp A lot of hospitals offer cross training for a number of modalities especially CT. Ultrasound usually requires more training but some hospitals are willing to train employees wanting to merge from x-Ray. Colleges offer advanced medical imaging degrees. They are usually just a year long and teach both MRI and CT. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 😘

    Hey .. thanks for the video. I read online that if you go into radiology and become an xray tech first and then specialize in ultrasound technology, you make more money than some one who just goes to school to be an ultrasound tech. In your experience, is this true, and if so, how much of a pay difference does it make, and is it worth the extra schooling? I'm actually super inspired by you. I'm 15 weeks pregnant right now and I want to have a job where I make good money to support my baby and I, but I'm so overwhelmed thinking about going back to school with a new born baby. I would be all for the extra schooling if the increased pay is significant enough to warrant the extra time spent, but I don't want to spend more time than I have to away from my baby at school, and it's hard to find an answer to this specific question on google. Lol anyways. Great job and again, I really enjoyed finding you on youtube. It makes me feel like I can totally do this once my baby is born.

      I’m so sorry your experiencing trouble with physics. Make sure you let your teacher know. It’s hard to speak up and we always try to solve things alone ( i do it too) but it’s always best to let them know and let them help. That is what they are there for and when they know you’re trying they are more lenient with grades. Hope this helps! ☺️

Do rad techs make diagnoses too? What about malpractice sues? I'm afraid someone will someday try to sue me! Even if I did nothing wrong! Because people are sue-happy in the states.

I noticed you said in the description that after the program you will have a associates of applied science. Is this just another name for the degree of radiology? "Why isn't it just called associates in radiology?" I guess is what I am wondering and its confusing me lol. I probably sound ignorant with this comment haha. But I am just wondering if my current degree, my associates of arts, was for nothing. Thank you for your time!

    • @evjewel
      @evjewel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol no problem. Radiology is a science just like nursing and other degrees in the health field. All of those degrees will also be applied science. If you take up journalism or maybe music those would be considered arts and fall under an arts degree. Hope this helps! ☺️
