    On Today's Episode:
Early to mid 2000s became the time of “hacks.” The popularity of lifestyle hacks and health hacks are evidence of how lazy we really are. It’s time to admit how lazy we actually are. We’ve been trying to hack our way out of any real effort in life, health, and success.
The “father of biohacking,” Dave Asprey is a champion for health hacks and admittedly just as lazy as everyone else. Most people will admit to wanting a great physique and outstanding physical, mental, and emotional health, yet people spend all of their time avoiding the things that get the results they say they want.
Dave is joining Tom on this episode to reveal the idea behind his latest book, Smarter Not Harder: The Biohacker’s Guide to Getting the Body and Mind You Want. Aside from the fact that we’re all naturally conditioned to be lazy, as Dave explains, we’re also bombarded with misinformation that makes getting the body and mind you want near impossible.
Losing weight is at the top of the list for a lot of people, but so is boosting energy and keeping the mind sharp and focused. This episode with Dave is going to reveal a few key ideas for you:
Why you don’t need a caloric deficit to lose weight
3 reasons why calories in calories out doesn’t work (and should be banned)
How you can actually hack spirituality
Dave Asprey is the founder of the Bulletproof diet and Upgrade Labs. He’s already reversed his biological age by 11 years thanks to biohacking and following tons of research. He’s gone from a 46 inch waste to losing over 100 pounds and maintaining a healthy weight. Dave has created a movement around the power of intention and human spirit in pursuit of high performance.
    QUOTES:
“There’s absolutely a system that does things before our brain can do it.”
“The fact that you can gain weight from the same number of calories depending on when they’re eaten destroys calories in calories out. It’s an over simplified lazy way of thinking about weight loss…”
“Very few people do well over long periods of time on a carnivore diet or on a vegan diet.”
“The thesis behind ‘Smarter Not Harder’ is that our systems are elegantly lazy and that we are lazy as a result and that there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, laziness has driven all progress in humans.”
“The fact that you can eat junk food doesn’t mean it’s not harming you. The fact you don’t get fat from it doesn’t mean it’s not harming you.”
“The vast majority of the people listening to this show want to want to exercise but they don’t actually want to exercise.”

Sure Dave complicates it but does rightfully so. Let's say you want to lose weight and go for some efficient program like leangains protocol. High protein and callorie deficit heavy weights lifting - that will likely work, and that's very simple to understand. What Dave says makes it more complex as he says yes it may work, but what if you can do it with less time and stress and less damage to your health. What are your protein sources, fiber sources, minerals, hormones and so and on. Dave's book is smarter not harder, but it is not 'keep it simple'. If you read the book it's fairly complicated.

    “To change one’s life:
    Start immediately.
    Do it flamboyantly.
    No exceptions.”
Because our time is finite, there is no reason to wait. In fact, there is every reason to begin. When you decide on a change you would like to make, ask yourself: what is the first step?
The entire vision of your ideal future is actually a series of first steps. They just happen to come one after the other. These are all moments you initiate. One little step at a time.

    • @dannick1299

      @BB49 exactly.
He has aged a very lot in the last 5 years or so. He has not slowed down or stopped his aging whatsoeve. He couldn't be anymore further away from a person who has stayed looking young for his age.
I have seen people who look much younger than their real age, because of eating and living healthily. Those who are truly living a healthy lifestyle and eating foods that help keep them young and looking looking.
But as I say, Dave Asprey has actually aged quicker that the average person of his age, not slower. And so for this reason alone, I would never take his advice, or follow what he has done in his life to stay healthy. Staying feeling young on the inside & looking it on the outside.
I personally didn't think his way sounded right anyway, after listening to his advice, some of it goes against what many longevity experts say, and to some of it sounds crazy. But i will listen to
anyone who may know new techmiques that could possibly help, and so I was still considering his advice. Even though it was going totally against much of the way people from Blue Zones live & have lived.
This obviously concerned me, because those from the 5 Blue Zones in the world have lived until greater ages than people in other parts of the world i.e. there are more people above the age of 100 in the blue zones than there are anywhere else in the world.
But after finding out his age, and seeing how much he has aged in the last 5 to 10 years has been the final nail in the coffin for me regarding his health tips and such. Because I think the evidence speaks for itself, and I find it a little crazy that he has gotten so much attention/publicity abt his advice on ways to reverse aging and stay young. Becauae. I really dont know why people are falling for it, because as I say, the overwhelming evidence is showing that so far, his advice is not working on himself, never mind on anyone else.
But I wish the guy well all the same.

The irony is that both the masess and corruption, because of that same treait they share in its repugnant relationship, are the ones who are meant to self-destruct themselves. The question is only a matter of how much damage are we able to spot them from doing.

I have a lot of respect for Dave Asprey, and of course, Tom, but I am surprised that Dave does not look younger, and actually seems to have aged a fair bit in the last few years, considering his wealth of knowledge, and everything he does with his Bio Hacking, he obviously has access to the best supplements and technology. I created a rumble video showing the link between ochratoxin-a and how it's found in EVERY regressive autistic child... No one can seem how to undo the damage that mycotoxins cause on the body. Much of his knowledge is because of mold illness. Chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's all have mold in the microbiome. I am so appreciative of this podcast. My fiance is a firefighter and very physically active, but is carrying about 50 lbs. too much, and I've been mystified as to why because he doesn't actually eat that much either. But he also has a very stressful job on a military base fire station that covers multiple counties in the surrounding area, he is a captain, and he basically lives off coffee to function. And he has been doing this for decades.
I also run a subreddit for victims of abuse, and a lot of child victims of abuse and sexual abuse struggle with weight. The levels of stress in those situations are also chronic and extremely high.

Chances are you've heard about the plant-forward diet.
The idea behind this style of eating is that's how our ancestors ate.
They only ate what they could forage, gather and grow.
There was no processed food at all.
That is why they were full of energy and had minimal body fat.
    Well...
    While this is true...
There is something else your ancestors did that helped them to live a stress-free life filled with vigor and energy.
See, they also walked barefoot outside...
    They slept on the ground.
They ate one or two meals a day...
They spent most of their days outside, soaking up the sun...
And they "showered" in rivers and waterfalls.
On top of that, they used the power of plants as their medicine.
In other words...Holisitc Chef Barry Anderson co founder of the Garden Villa Phuket Weight Loss Organic Garden Nature Retreat knows from his own BIobraphy succesfull weight loss biography that will be soon made into a major TH-cam Movie Production .

Another way to approach food is whether it donates electrons to us or steals electrons. We run on electrons. We get them from grounding, food, water, etc...different foods give or steal electrons and affects how we metabolize food/nutrients. Also consider the effect of circadian rhythm and the effect of light on our hormones. Light signals all of our hormones and our body also pulls light signals from the foods we eat. They type of light our food is grown in as well as where we live and what is native to the time of the year affects the light signals we pick up from our food and thus, how well we utilize what we eat.

Going to share something somewhat controversial:
Ive had on/off amorexia nervosa since my early 20s. Always been slim, atheletic, or skinny. Natural ecto-meso body type.
The MOST weight i ever lost and the fastest was once after a particularly brutal break up. I was in such shock I did not eat for 24 hours. When I resumed eating I had no appetite.
This knocked me back into my eating disorder for 2 months. I lost 10kg. (I went from 55kg to 45kg).
I ate 1 bread roll for breakfast. Chicken sandwich for lunch. Dinner sometimes happened or did not but it was never more than 400kcal. I also walked eveywhere.
It has taken me a year to regain the weight I lost.
I cannot fathom a world where calories in calories out doesnt work. It works for me. (But to go from a low weight to a drastically low weight requires a mammoth deficit).
Also movement, NOT exercise. Excercise seems like a helpful maintenance tool, but weight loss is something that almost requires total detachment from outcome. At this point, the whole concept of diet and weight is mystical to me.
At 54kg now, to healthily go to 45kg seems like some kind of Arthurian quest.
Before gravity was "discovered", did the world feel this fucking clueless about it?

I’m a health and wellness devotee and natural disruptor so Dave is right up my alley. As much as I didn’t want to initially, I really like the guy. He backs his claims with peer reviewed science from what I’ve seen so far and he’s not looking to join a team, he’s the captain of his own.
However, the insistence on using the word lazy over efficient rubs me the wrong way and feels overly sensational towards the aim of supporting a hackneyed thesis.
Why does he insist on referring to the body as “meat” instead of flesh? Or something less provocative. I was under the impression that it’s only called meat if someone eats it. Perhaps the spiritual implications of flesh are an unwanted association?
I think that the emotions you refer to that women store in their hips is almost exclusively sexual trauma. Just as the gut is now understood in the past decade to be just as intelligent, if not more, as the brain is perhaps similar to the intelligence that a woman’s reproductive system holds. That being said, I do appreciate the delicate communication around this subject by two of the most materially accomplished men in the world.

Love how a talk about Losing Weight and Calories comes down in the most expansive explanation of the disconnection and the epitome of these times - cause thats also why were are stressing about Weight and Calories in the first place - if we had that connection to our souls and a better understanding of this so called spiritual stuff aka ourselves our energy. Life would totally different, and you would prob already making all your minerals and different bio chemical reactions in the body (and maybe even outside) just by being in connection with yourself and others. - Coolest stuff we will if we go ahead w this and evolve as we're doing now
While I do agree from own experience allot w Dave his way of looking at health losing weight w hormone balancing and how animal fat and protein got a big piece in this (lot based on the base of Ray Peat his findings). And I personally still use animal fats and only some high quality Grass fed meat and raw dairy from time to time. I slowly just by my own instict moving away from it (I don't feel we got to force that, how its proposed now by many, but in connection w our system). Because of these different states I experienced thru ways of eating. Therefor I find it interesting that he is so well in tune w that energy spiritual aspect of how we are connected, and how that connects our world, that he doesn't mention the possible effects on mainly being connected through those animal fats and proteins. This is just that quantum entanglement connection that you try to piece together later in the talk. It's all out on the platter. but we got to do it organically by experience through our feelings ( that are connected w those vitamins and Minerals).

French, Italian, Greek, Portugal and Spanish people eat they largest and most calorie-dense meal relatively late at night - between 8.00 pm and 10.00 pm. Simply because of the heat at daytime. They are barely eating breakfast - or if they do, its sweet & fatty pastry like croissants (carbs & fats), they often eat a three-course-lunch including wine... and repeat the same late in the evening. Around tea-time - in France, it's called "le goûter" - they have something sweet such as small cake/croissant/fruit with or without a joghurt plus milk coffee, tea or juices (kids). I know because I am 50% French myself :-)
French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italien are amongst the leanest populace in Europe. Greeks & Turks are not.
There must be a different logic behind this other than just timing. It's still about the type and amount of foods you eat plus when you eat it. There is no way around that, sorry ;-)

I feel people are missing the point. The reason why he says people don't lose weight is not because of stress in general, that answer just doesn't cut it, the reason is for the stress specifically produced by having to do something to lose the weight because we are lazy. Which doesn't sound PC at all, but finally we can rationalize that the bullies were right when saying that people that are fat are lazy. The difference is that it isn't because of calories in or calories out, but because we have to embrace the fact that we are lazy and find hacks to work around it. That according to him, as long as we feel we are cheating the system, then we can actually see some results because if we don't feel we are not taking advantage of the system, there is not enough incentive to stick to any plan because that's the kind of people we are. It sounds bad in paper, but if you come to accept that's your nature, and deal with the fact, then you can get results. Good news is that if you still want to feel like a victim somehow to feel empowered, you can embrace the idea that we didn't have better information before, so a lot of the assumptions to lose weight were wrong, and it wasn't your fault because you simply didn't have the right information. However you need to be angry about it, like he was with his 702 hours of cardio, to have the leverage to implement the new information into getting results.
