There’s a right and wrong way to do everything regarding your health. While you’re likely frustrated because everything sounds like a contradiction, the truth is that your health is about finding what works best for you.
Is going with a plant-based diet necessary, will vegetables kill you, or is eating red meat the cardinal sin to avoid.?
Dr Steven Gundry, cardiologist and heart surgeon, has been studying diets from Blue Zones, gut health and what has been killing our energy, our longevity and ability to lose unwanted fat. He’s the bestselling author of Unlocking the Keto Code, The Energy Paradox, The Plant Paradox, and many others.
In this series of conversations, Dr Gundry gives us the simplest break down of what foods are destroying your gut health, the best way to “diet”, why you’re struggling with such low energy levels, and what the real benefits are of a low-carb and ketogenic diet is and what it means for you.
The key takeaway to remember is that energy starts in the gut and being metabolically flexible, being able to switch between different energy sources in your body, is going to be key to finally achieving your best health ever.
    QUOTES:
“The purpose of food is to get olive oil in your mouth.”
“Recent information has proven that fat is not the evil guy we thought it was, that the fat is there because of the inflammation and the inflammation is there because you have a leak in your gut.”
“Believe it or not in the American diet, 24 hours a day, we’re causing leaky gut, we’re assaulting our immune system with these LPSs, and it’s no wonder we’re a giant ball of inflammation.”
“It’s the cycling in and out of getting the benefits of ketosis without full ketosis that makes all the difference.”
“Ketones are not a super fuel, they are actually a signaling molecule that tells mitochondria to protect themselves at all costs.”

I am Italian, born and raised in Sicily until the age of 28, then l moved to the US. It is true that we put olive oil in pretty much everything. Every soup has a drizzle of EVOO, unless it is a meat based soup. I have to disagree on the tomato peel and seeds. I grew up watching my mom make tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes. The very reason why we peel tomatoes ( by scalding) is because the peel is often too thick and not appealing in the final product. I recall that whole tomatoes would be prepared for canning by first peeling them and then placing them in a huge kettle. They would be cooked and seasoned before canning, seeds would stay. For tomato sauce, we had to use a strainer with the purpose of making a pulp, not to remove the seeds, but because of the process, the seeds remained inside the mechanical strainer, we did not have Vitamix back then lol. I am pretty sure that if the peel and seeds were bad for our health, we Italians would know about it. We eat whole tomatoes in our salads as well.
After watching the video, I researched lectins and found that many of the studies are in vitro, not on people. But also found that several Italian scientists and doctors reassure us that lectins are rendered innocuous by the cooking process. In addition, you would have to eat very large quantities of lectins containing vegetables or fruits in order to cause damage. We also eat lentils, beans ( fagioli), which Gundry has pretty much black listed, i never heard these were bad for us. We have been eating them for thousands of years.
I am always puzzled by the sensationalized fads that come out of the US. Extreme views that work well in capturing the attention of the masses. They usually work well for the sale of supplements and books.
Update: This gastroenterologist proves my points, please watch what he has to say about the lectins fad diet.
Dr. Will Bulsiewicz reassures us that lectins are not bad for us, actually foods such as legumes (deemed bad by Dr. Gundry) will help you loose weight, lower your blood pressure, cut colon cancer risk. Watch the video here

    Here are some key takeaways:
-Leaky gut is a major underlying cause of many health issues like autoimmune diseases, joint pain, brain fog, fatigue, etc. It allows foreign substances to enter the bloodstream and trigger inflammation.
-Lectins in foods like beans, grains, and nightshades can damage the gut lining and cause leaky gut. Cooking and preparation methods can reduce lectins.
-The gut microbiome heavily influences health and longevity. An imbalanced microbiome promotes leaky gut. Fecal transplants can help restore a healthy microbiome.
-Mitochondria produce energy and ketones help mitochondria become more efficient and protect themselves from damage during starvation.
-Olive oil, mushrooms, inulin, resistant starches feed good gut bacteria. Exercise and yoga also help the microbiome.
-Time restricted eating, intermittent fasting, and avoiding late night meals give the body downtime to repair the gut.
-Getting adequate vitamin D, vitamin C, and consuming olive oil, mushrooms, and other polyphenols support health and longevity.
-The brain undergoes a "wash cycle" during deep sleep which removes toxins. Getting adequate sleep, especially early in the night, supports this.
    - Cholesterol and heart disease can be caused by an autoimmune reaction, not just too much cholesterol intake.
    - Ketones signal to mitochondria to become inefficient on purpose as a protective mechanism during starvation.
    - The gut-brain connection is very important. Leaky gut can lead to leaky brain and neuroinflammation.
    - Women's intuition and "gut feelings" may stem from their strong connection to their gut microbiome.
    - Eating for your microbiome, rather than just yourself, is an important perspective. Feed the bugs prebiotics.

The diet that is best for any given individual is directly correlated with the health of their microbiome and what sort of diet is necessary to shift that microbiome. This is why people do really well on different diets. One diet is a disaster for one person and healing for the other. It's all about what is going on in the microbiome.
This is why I always get annoyed by medical professionals that say there's only one right way to eat.

Heating lectins in a pressure cooker on high heat for 15 minutes can destroy many of them - can be used on beans, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, rice, potatoes, squash, peas, lentils, etc. Rice and potatoes can also be frozen for 12 hours and then reheated to reduce insulin response via resistant starch created from freezing. So there are controls to reduce issues for lectins, insulin response, etc.

This raises the question whether the diets of thee isolated tribes with pre-industrial cultures who had perfect teeth and great health, as documented by Weston A. Price, not have foods with lectins in their diets?

The best diet for me is mostly carnivore and just very little green, leafy vegetables. No more inflammations, chronic pain almost gone, more vital therefore more active, better breathing, better sleep, less brain fog, etc. As soon as I eat carbs from stuff made of flour, everything comes back again immediately. Other carbs from vegetables make my symptoms come back too, but this takes longer.

The problem with the format of this show is that it’s just a collection of someone’s opinions without any discourse or push back, the opinions may be that of those who are educated and experienced and have worked in any given field for years BUT this doesn’t allow to questioning and holding their message up to the light.
Every single episode the host just sits and agrees and acts amazed at everything that’s said.
There are lots of conflicting information between guests and it will be leading to people just jumping on the message of which ever was the last episode they watched.
One example here is the “brains are getting smaller after agriculture” comment, this is ignore the swathes of data to show that brain size doesn’t necessarily correlate with intelligence and in fact brain “efficiency” is the reason for our brains having shrunk.
Not a good format I’m afraid.

    • @colmrooney414
      @colmrooney414 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I guess its efficiency, intelligence correlates with our connection in nature, nothing to do with "brain"- this word only is from meaning "mush". in china intelligence is called Qi/energy, its not local to the mind or atleast the seperate mind. have you heard of Tony Wright? he talks about fruit symbiosis and brain development with fruit having complex neurochemicals, though again not necessarily size, but knowledge of how we relate to nature helps us survive and thrive in whatever environment we imagine ourselves. then is the real question, who are we? I notice he doesn't talk about fruit and tender veggies/greens here

    • @stephenbeck5993
      @stephenbeck5993 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

He mentioned that those early humans with larger brains also had larger bodies, but failed to recognize that ratio of brain size to body size is more important than brain size alone.
I would expect my general biology college students to know better than to refer to chloroplasts as the mitochondria of plant cells. Plant cells have mitochondria as well as chloroplasts. Although chloroplasts have some features in common with mitochondria, their functions are very different.
His claim that the only way our bodies generate heat is by protons escaping the ETC rather than combining with oxygen means that there are no other exothermic reactions in human physiology that release heat. I find that to be a ridiculous claim. In that same discussion, he says that oxygen couples with a proton and makes ATP. This is at best a very sloppy and inaccurate explanation of the ETC. Oxygen + a proton + an electron that has been through the ETC form water, not ATP. Making ATP from ADP is like the ETC recharging a battery using energy in electrons from nutrient molecules. Then those electrons become part of water molecules that form as a biproduct (metabolic water).
There is some truth in this presentation that may be useful to some people, but for me is too rambling and confusing and too fraught with erratic information to be considered credible.

I guess I see it as some professionals, or pseudo professionals in their fields giving us an opinion. And it up to us to siffen through these opinions/options and find out what works for us. There is no way Tom could be critical of guests given that a lot of them have dedicated their lives to their research, and he has only tinkered with their book. It compacts alot of *possibly useful information into a short video. If one takes what they learn here as gospel, that's ignorance. But at least you're exposed to new information that you can now research and come up with your own ideas about. Its a starting point for a deeper look. And perhaps if you find consistencies across episodes, you may be able to make some deductions. But i agree the things learned on this channel should be fact checked, as the guests could run willy nilly, spewing B.S. and we wouldn't know any better. But at least know I know what facts TO check.

If you really want some good information on nutrition for health issues and fat loss, you might want to watch videos from Dr. Ken Berry. Berry's information literally saved my life and still helps me get rid of body fat, after a whole life of wrong diets and being hungry all the time. I just turned 60 recently and am peri menopausal, and I have a long list of diseases, that have a great impact on my life, mostly chronic pain, etc. A year ago, I wasn't able to walk 50 paces at once, I meanwhile go on hikes with my very active male Rottweiler puppy and I do competitive dog sports.
I of course mainly suffer from cPTSD, and my PCOS is of no big concern anymore. But Fibromyalgia, Polyneuropathy, several allergies, intracranial hypertension, begnine brain tumors, etc have gotten sooo much better. My headache is only light or gone totally. My shoulders don't ache at all anymore. I can sleep six hours every day

I ate very healthy diet too, I swear I thought they put something on the air/environment for us to be this way then we will buy products to fix it! It’s cause and effect cycle but that’s just how my angry self thinks, it could be because we are aging and our body is sensitive and susceptible to everything! I swear, even my cast iron pan cause me to itch like crazy so we stop using it. But still I’m itching but not as bad. I’ve been desperate and irritable and I finally said ok I may have leaky gut. Long story short I ordered Dr Gundry’s leaky gut product and I got it yesterday! So far so great, I did not have itching and flare ups so far wooohooo what a miracle! I’m very very happy! Question of the week 43: 4/22/2023
Hope you having a wonderful Sabbath Day, Saints!
      Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
Be blessed. Praise God and worship Him in His holy 7th day (completion of His 6 days creation). Reminding us that He is the Creator.
Answer to the Question of the week 42:
Question was: What is it mean when Jesus said...
      > Matthew 10:34
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
      -----------------------------------
The sword is the word of God.
      > Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
      > Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
      Also it is His judgement.
      > Ezekiel 6:3
And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God; Thus saith the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
      > Matthew 12:48, 12:50
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
      > Revelation 2:16
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
      > Matthew 13:38-42
      38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
      41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Those who are faithful to stands on the word of God will have divisions among unblievers; families, friends, nighbors and the world.
      > Matthew 10:34-36
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
His word in the day of the Lord...
      > John 5:29
And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
This to ponder: Are we prepared to be faithful and obedience to God's word till the end?
      ===========================================
Question of the week: What is it mean when Jesus said...
      > Matthew 10:37
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Basically the natural rhythm for him seems to be every second day he eats a lot and then on the next day, very little, just a little bit of here and there unless it's the best food that he likes. Yes I've had all kinds of tests with no solution. After watching your video, I'm going to try to stop my peanut butter addiction and see if that is what's causing such inflammation in my muscles and joints. It's the only food that I have consistently every day. Other foods vary daily. I'm almost 80 and have had a peanut butter jelly sandwich every day of my life. duh? I'm also obese.

Depending on who you ask or who you listen to, it could be an issue with the bread or the jelly instead if the peanut butter. I don't have any suggestions, as each person is different, but given that you are 80 years old, I'd say that's pretty good, even if you are obese as you had mentioned. My mother who ate healthy all her life lived to 72, and my father who ate a lot of crap, only lived to 66. I tend to eat a lot of crap (albeit good quality milk chocolate that has high cacao level), I know I should be eating better. Hey thanks for that input regarding lectins baba. What a relief. Just cook them longer. So not everything Dr Gundry says is necessarily helpful. Didn't he also say that the longest lived people/bluezones don't eat much red meat. Well I know that in Okinawa (a blue zone) they raise their own pigs and they are not PETS and eat lots of meat and seafood. Also Hong Kong eats the most meat in the world and as well has the longest lived people in the entire world. So he kind of blew it. However I will be forever greatful to Dr Gundry for his accurate claim in the Circulation Journal that the jabs were causing serious heart disease eg myocarditis etc.

      Don't beleive doctors.
      The Proper Dietary
      The Original Diet
      Chosen by the Creator
In order to know what are the best foods, we must study God’s original plan for man’s diet. He who created man and who understands his needs appointed Adam his food. “Behold,” He said, “I have given you every herb yielding seed,.... and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.” Upon leaving Eden to gain his livelihood by tilling the earth under the curse of sin, man received permission to eat also “the herb of the field.”
Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect, that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet.

A few things to consider when encountering charlatans like Dr. Gundry (who sometimes are even very easy to spot, like this guy):
1- Do they apply what they're saying? Are they living examples of what they promoting? Does their method work? To put it simply why is he old himself?
2- Do they have some agenda? Are they benefiting from it (It's OK but maybe the only one who is benefiting here is THEM not you and me). He owns an olive oil business & he advertises his brand of olive oil as one of the best.

I like Tom's videos and info but like others here I feel I have to double check facts. I've been vegetarian for almost 40 years, mainly for health reasons, and I would say I'm healthier for it. I am also open to debates and ideas that contradict what I do. I find recent info on lectins and phytic acid alarming and ask myself if I'm eating as healthily as I can. Dr Gundry doesn't seem to address cooking, which eliminates lectins. Many years ago I followed Leslie Kenton's Raw Food Diet, which emphasised the freshness and vitality of raw veg and pulses. Like Dr Gundry she was able to back up her arguments with data and studies. What is frustrating is that much information around diets seems contradictory and leaves us non-doctors wondering what the heck to eat.

Dr gundry says in books pressure cooking kills lectins vegtables ...but in in grains. One of things any culture does is pass down wisdom without explanation things become a ritual. Your mother may have skinned tomatoes and strained them because many many many generations before figured out it was more healthy. You just assumed it was for taste. My mother did the same with eggplant (melanzana) she salted it and placed a weight it. Telling me it was to remove bitterness. Maybe it was to release some of the lectins. Gundry tests his patients blood every 3 months and looks for improvement. So his conclusions are based on continous real-time evidence

To each his own. Some people thrive on vegan diets and some die doing it, some thrive on all carnivore and some die doing it. There is too much conflicting information out there. Depending on whose video you watch, it can easily convince you of a certain path to a glorious disease free 120 years of life. I say experiment with your own body and see what works for you. Eat the best of what you have access to. Each individual has different metabolism, lifestyle and conditions. So you have to try things out for yourself. The general guideline is to avoid or reduce sugar (carbs), "vegetable" oils and highly processed/modified foods. Here are some foods you can try: egg, butter, fish, seafood, meat, avocado, live sauerkraut, live kimchi, kale, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, arugula, moringa, mushrooms, olives, almond, macadamia, walnut, aged cheeses, live kefir, live yogurt, raw milk, ghee, tallow, lard, coconut oil, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, starfruit, guava, rose apple, peach, cherry, grapefruit, jicama, cucumber, capsicum, asparagus, artichoke, brussels sprout, carrot, onion, garlic, tomato, lemon. (Go easy on the fruits and nuts and don't forget to exercise).
