    I know Lucas wanted Vader to be depicted as this large, terrifying force and, if I were him, I'd think this is the scene that really puts Vader in the most horrifying, scary scenes in all the movies. An unstoppable monster, an inevitable force. It's brilliant

    • @ebbhead20
      @ebbhead20 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      Yeah Vader back then really don't do much, which is scary in a different way, but you need the sheer power and viciousness of the character to see why he's feared. Not just a guy in black sounding scary, he can make a ship full of soldiers die in seconds. That's power..

      I absolutely love that scene! What's more, it happens right before the new hope, and the crew spent about a week trying to figure out what the plans look like in the New Hope. Finally they spotted the thing shown for less than a second. THAT'S the attention to detail and respect to source material I admire. This is what SW should be!

      Agreed, if you want to actually feel how powerful Vader is for yourself, play Jedi Fallen Order. You spend the entire game getting stronger and stronger, feeling more and more confident, only for Vader to show up at the end, and teach you that you are little more than a bug vs his windshield. You really get to experience the hopelessness these people felt as you flee for your life from this unstoppable juggernaut.

      On the one hand, it makes the scene seem a little silly in retrospect. He watched you fly away with the Death Star plans. On the other hand, it makes Leia that much more awesome. She's lying directly to the face of one of the scariest men in the galaxy, she just happened to be playing a hand she didn't know was no longer good. Palpatine dismantled the Senate _while_ Leia was waiting on these plans. She likely planned to try and twist Vader up in political red tape. She wasn't aware that the red tape dispenser wasn't around anymore.

      That's the one thing I didn't like about this scene. They could have established the same emotion without sacrificing Leia's cover story very easily. Just make the rebels relay the transmission to Leia's ship. So Vader boards the rebel ship and fights/slaughters his way to the bridge. The rebel soldiers are trying to slow him down, sealing the blast doors between the bridge and Vader, etc. When Vader finally makes it to the bridge, the Death Star plans are no longer in the main computer. All they have are the coordinates of where the plans were transmitted to. So Vader and his troops return to his Star Destroyer and jump to Lightspeed to catch up to the transmission, bringing him to Leia's ship.
      Same message. Same emotions. Same badassery. Same fighting scenes (plus cutting his way through blast doors). But Leia gets to keep her cover story (not that it does her any good, but it fills in the plot hole that she used such an obvious lie as a cover story).

    That rebel trooper screaming "LAAAAUNCH!" ... you can legit hear the terror in his voice. It's a one word line and it just HAMMERS home how utterly, utterly horrific that whole situation is.
    Vader has consistently been listed as one of the, if not THE, greatest movie villain of all time in every list I've seen on the matter of the last 35+ years, and he was SCARY from the very first moment we encountered him in "A New Hope", stepping into that very ship, through the blasted door.
    But this scene ... this one ... this has never been topped. Not even the Younglings in the temple. Not the butchering of the various rebelious leaders on Mustafar. Not the Sand People in their camp.
    This scene.
    It is the absolute essence of Vader and why he is so frightening. When I saw that in the movie theatre the first time, I realized then and there I was watching a masterpiece, and I just hoped everyone else would feel the same way ... and I'm so glad that so many people do. Rogue One is a fantastic film in general.
    Its ending is pure, utter brilliance, though.

Not including the bad deep fake of Hamill's face, but the stunt actor doing the movements was flawless. I love the unique styles that both Vader and Luke had. Thank you very much for this compilation! The trooper screaming "help us" through the door really turns it from an action sequence toa horror one - the fear, their clearly knowing they're about to die inches from safety is, I think, a unique moment in Star Wars at this point, and turns Vader into a true sci-fi monster rather than just a guy in a suit of space armour.
    That said: Props to those rebels. They stood their ground as best they could, and that bought enough time for the disk to be handed off and the blockade runner to launch. They accomplished their mission, and in that sense they actually win this, even though they were all effectively dead the moment Vader caught them in the corridor.

    He is literally using force sight, heal, and telekinesis all at once. Blocking bolts with his saber (sight), choking and holding them in the air and redirecting bolts with his hands ... holding the doors closed (all telekinesis) . That's why after the door jams, you hear the creacking of the hull... while holding his breath, which is why you don't hear his breathing at first (heal). It was literally done to be terrifying to the rebel alliance. Purposely to scare the shit out of them. Unreal to thinking he was only about 80% of his full potential.

    Darth Vader is literally a force of nature. Nurtured his whole life by fear, anger, and hatred. All the things that lead you to the dark side, and the chosen one by the force all while being extremely gifted. This is just a small example of how terrifying this man was once he gave in, he's had a plethora of showings of strength and force besides this in the lore. But terrifying nonetheless 💯💪🏼

    I was born in 82, but we recorded the starwars movies when they aired at Xmas. one of my earliest movie memories was being completely terrified of vader, i saw rogue one when it showed at cinemas and that fear came flooding back. You see the fear in the rebel crew members faces, they've been hearing myths about this boogie man since the empire took power. Was he real does he exist all of a sudden they're stuck in a corridor with him, and there's no escape he's going to kill them and there's no stopping him. If a movie recaptures childhood fear factor of a vilian, thats a home run right there.
