  • Solo Overnight Sequoia National Forest | Nobe Young Creek. This was my first trip out camping solo in the Sequoia National Forest with my Kodiak Canvas Flexbow 10x14 VX tent. I went out searching for a secluded disperse camping spot and after exploring for hours I found this spot up near Nobe Young Creek.

    I always have backup cooking options. Look into the budget jetboil at wallyworld and also Trangia alcohol cook sets. I have dreams too when I go camping. For the tent pegs check out videos here on YT for using lagbolts. I did it the second time I set up my Kodiak and definitely prefer it.
    Nice video and great campsite.

      Good advice! I ended up picking something like that up so I now have a backup! I’d like to get one of those Trangia sets though they are pretty nice! I’ve definitely discovered the lag bolts trip and it’s a game changer! Thanks for the ideas and advice!

    • @efromhb
      @efromhb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustyroaddestinations welcome! I saw your video where you did use the lagbolts after I commented. They really make set up better. Seeing the larger 10x14 Kodiak I kinda wish I had gotten it instead of the 10x10.

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I spoke to the guys at Competitive Edge they said most people by the 10x14 and that a lot of people had sent back their 10x10 for the larger one. I suppose it depends on how you're using it. Probably solo or with one other person the 10x10 would be fine - but it is kind of nice to have the extra space if you end up hanging out in there.
      And man those lag bolts make it SOOOO much nicer... Maybe in areas where the ground isn't that hard but where I'm at I've bent the stakes that came with the tent and I didn't think that would be possible.

      @dustyroaddestinations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know Marcia those were REALLY weird dreams! I don't remember the last time I had an experience like that. It was really beautiful on that trip. There are a few more things I have to work out to make it better for a longer trip - at least an extra day. I probably could have stayed but I figured I should do more exploring so when I brought someone with me that we could just focus on our main spot and not have to travel around.

    • @marciahammond9735
      @marciahammond9735 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustyroaddestinations good idea to do more scouting. No matter whether Debbie is a camper or not, if you are well organised it makes the whole experience so much more comfortable for you, her and your daughter. You know when my son started going through his troubles with his x I was so worried about him that I couldn't sleep so I went to my doctor for a sleeping tablet, well I ended up having what must be what drug addicts see when they have their highs, ie bright colours so I stopped taking them very fast😁

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was great to scout more - I need to make that a recurring adventure and look for more places. I think as I get better at reading the map I'll know which roads to take. I did use that to find that spot - I used gaiagps (with downloaded maps) and saw the creek and the fire road going near it so I figured/hoped that maybe there would be a clearing that I could setup and then I found that area. It was really cool!
      Yeah that would be a bit off to see all those bright colors - at least you didn't get into it and want to see more of it!!! LOL

    Awesome! I go solo camping, too. I'd never break camp because it's too much work! Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the Sequoia National Forest. I haven't seen it in a while--looks like it needs some dead tree harvesting. Will you please tell me what you shot the footage with, and with which software you did the editing? Thank you! De'Nean

      @dustyroaddestinations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was a lot of work. Man there were tons of dead trees all over the place. I shot the footage with a Sony A6400, GoPro Hero 6, DJI Mavic Mini, and my iPhone Xs. I did the editing in FCPX. I needed to clear the GoPro lens but didn’t realize that until after I got back.

    A man, in the wilderness, amongst the red woods and conifers, contemplating silence, no distractions and perhaps the meaning of life? You even laid down a firm boundary in a dream. That’s confirmation of progress. That’s living life! By the way, looked at the stripped bark on those trees - sure looks like bear country to me! Excellent video, encore!

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a really great and quiet time! Yeah that was funny about the boundary in the dream - it was just really odd and vivid. Not sure about bears there - in other ares of the Sequoia it is listed that you need bear boxes and such but nothing was listed for that area and when I talked to a camp host at one of the designated spots he said they didn't have any requirements for that. So not sure what the deal is there. At least nothing, besides bugs, came to snack on me! Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it!

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very cool Johanna! I think dispersed camping, even though I'm really new to it myself, is WAY nicer than a regular campground. Sure you have to bring your own water and well bathroom but you really feel like you're out there if you know what I mean. I hope you can start doing that with your kids! If this works here is a link for the gaiagps link for the location. www.gaiagps.com/map/?loc=13.3/-118.5693/36.0153&popupLoc=-118.57759/36.02711&pubLink=rhdTkuLkT4pN9R7Cr9ZfV1qi&waypointId=9f9504687da3c0c04bd07cd73df71f0f - the last time I went other people were already there so it doesn't seem to unknown anymore. Maybe I'll bump into you all out there! 😀

    Love the nature, especially being a city kid.
    Also the change from what I usually found on your other channel, this is the totally opposite, with the beautiful music in the background I felt like I was there with you! Thank you for the wonderful video!
    But before I go could I recommend something? Maybe take some clips of the trees, birds, water, sun, etc. While walking, then show us them while you talk, kind of like you did, just more of them and better quality..
    also maybe cut out some parts you weren’t really saying a whole lot/repeating yourself, and add time stamps instead of a description of how the night went.. kind of like “7:14am (*show the phone clock* )and I cannot wait to tell you guys about last night”
    Love what you’re doing Duane, I support everyone on their road to happiness, PLEASE don’t take any of my criticism to heart.. I just want people to know you worldwide you deserve it. You will blow up on this channel changing little things like that. P.s the drone shots were sick!!!

      Outstanding suggestions and I knew when I came back and was putting it together that I forgot to shoot A LOT of extra clips. The B-roll suggestion is fantastic and I’m kinda bummed I didn’t record more. It is definitely different than what I used to doing so it’s going to be a bit of a learning curve but I’m enjoying trying to figure that out as well.

    Wow, that is so awesome, last time I was there was in 1999 and it was June and the snow was still covering most of the grounds by the way, how did you get those shots from above? The editing is also very professional. Duane, I also have a question for you. This Friday 5/5/2020, I will be meeting with my soon to be Ex, we have an appt. with an Attorney to file BK, .. (3rd) time. This is for Fed. and State Taxes which were shocking to me because I found out about them after my bank account was frozen, I didn't know from what or what year because we had file Bankruptcy in 2009 and to this day she has never given me any information as to what it was, I thought that it was due to her taking all of the 401 K investments and not paying any state of fed taxes on them but this Friday I will finally find out. I am 55 yrs old and since 2010 I been on SSI and i only get 1465 a month, I used to be able to do some side work before and my mind was still functioning to a 70 percent which gave me the courage to do on line school to finish my master's which was going great until 4 years ago when she pulled me back in..... I tried to leave before but took the bait and that was the worst mistake of my life, this was before I found help since no one would believe me and i didn't know about any of you guys (coaches, doctors, that had real experience with Personality Disorders, anyways in July of 2017, I finally walk out and have been on NO-CONTACT, and followed your advice to the T, and all I did was read and watch videos from just about anyone from Ross, to Dr. Linda Martinez, Angie, and they were all very helpful but my issues were very similar to yours and your videos really hit all the right places and watching you evolve gave me an extra push to not give up, believe me I never imagined me making it this far but here I am and my health is improving day by day and thanks to you my relationship with my son is strong and my younger daughter is coming around and I am very optimistic to rebuild my relationship with my oldest daughter and my 3 grandchildren which I have only seen twice for a few minutes in the past 3 years. Getting back to my question I didn't know you could also file BK and clean your slate from State and Fed. taxes, and school loans, since in 1999 we filed Bk the first time but we still had to pay over 100k to the Feds for taxes, and 49k for State. "AND YES I WAS THAT STUPID!" and to top it off, my educational background and career was in Real Estate, Lending, Credit, and income taxes, and since all the certification and licenses were in my name I had my soon to be Ex run the office."AND YES I WAS ALSO VERY IGNORANT AND STUPID that to this day I won't even look at anything related with real estate, lending, taxes or investments. Now my question (should I bring the divorce at the time we see this attorney?) I haven't spoken to her or anyone about this matter for I already had one leg in the coffin and I couldn't even get my life saving medications because even with Medicare, and paying for Silver Script Insurance $139 a month and I still had to come up with 347.00 a month just to get 2 medications, but I was able to have my own small place for 2 years, and my dogs, and sometimes we had electricity, sometimes we didn't and sometimes we ate and some times went on fasting until I collapsed and went to the hospital and was place for 8 weeks at a hospice which was great because my son and younger daughter took care of my dogs and our relationship has been constant for the past 11 months, i really need to get my divorce going but i am just beginning to do baby steps since i got my medications back but I am unable to do much yet and my mind is not as foggy, and i can now have a conversation for at least 20 minutes but only with very few selected people. Time is up, I already took a bit longer than 20 minutes and lost my train of thought. (Hey it was less than 5 minutes, a few weeks ago. ) Thank you Duane, you are the man!
    Sincerely Raul

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Raul - wow snow in June! Doesn't surprise me though because it was MUCH colder that night than I had expected. For the overhead shots I used a DJI Mavic Mini drone amzn.to/3cuS435 - its a pretty neat little "camera" and isn't too expensive well when compared to other "more professional" drones.
      Hey on the question send me an email or take that part of the comment and put it on my other channel. I want to keep this one free from the narc abuse toxic ex chaos. I know it's a bit confusing because I'm mentioning it on the other channel but it would be really confusing for someone who knows nothing about the other one to see a camping channel talking about divorce!
