A negative Persona 3 Reload review has kinda went viral and a few viewers wanted me to react to it, so I did! He calls Persona 3 Reload worthless and brings up some points that I actually agree with but a whole lot that I don't. So, is Persona 3 Reload a worthless remake? Let's discuss.

Nah Lotus Juice popped off in reload. His lyrics carry mass destruction especially the 2nd verse.
What that video sounds to me is that the guy really loved the original, but isn't open to new things or different things. For him, the original P3 (or P3 FES) is a perfect game and it won't be topped no matter what.
And since the remake changed some stuff to feel different enough instead of feeling just a "graphical remake", he probably automatically thought it made everything bad.
Like, bro, if you think EVERY NEW SONG or EVERY REMIX is BAD? I WISH the original P3 had Color your Night and It's Going Down. Of course nothing will be perfect, I do think the game is too easy, but it's also because modern Persona games ARE easy, specially when you reach the late part of the game. Remember that the original and FES didn't let you control your party members and that's where the meme of Mitsuru's Marin Karin comes from. The original also had the fatigue system, which, by the way, was universally disliked by EVERYONE, and that FOR SURE made the game harder.
I feel two things: Or this guy is rage baiting a lot of people just because the game is being generally well received, or he's just a nostalgia-filled critic who thinks everything that came before is perfect and everything new is bad.
Edit: Yeah, this guys clearly hated the idea of the remake from the beginning and didn't even wanted to open himself to new things. He's just straight up hating because of it, like, hating on the new outfits just because they're new and different? Hating on the battle system because it took Showtimes and made it a better version because you can control when and where you want to use them? C'mon bruh
He's so quick to judge the game for things that are very nitpicky like Koromaru's VO. But he will completely gloss over major improvements like the Link Episodes. He never even mentioned that the game has fully voiced Social Links now, and that's crazy to me because it's one of my favorite changes. Makes me more endeared to the characters than ever.

I don't get thing about party control, you can have party control in Remake. He is just bullshitting at this point.
For me let the team play by itself is a nightmare, I fought against nyx at lvl 80+(Merciless) and if it was not for a strategy I to follow to the perfect it would be impossible for me to beat the game without 2 or 3 hours of grinding.

Remakes are supposed to be a new version of an old game, and EXPANDS upon it and makes it more appealing to both old fans and new fans alike. Know what IS a worthless remake(s)? Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shiny Pearl. Those games have updated graphics, and added next to NO new additions, at least to make it feel new and unique. Saying a remade game is “worthless” when they added new shit to keep it fresh is WILD to me

Who in their right mind would rather play OG Persona 3 if Persona 3 Reload exists? What? You want them to go back, experience shittier graphics (which for some people hurts their eyes looking at. I’d know, my girlfriend thinks so when she saw it), have to experience the “Tired mechanics” (which is really stupid, let’s not lie here), and not being able to control your party. Do I even need to explain this one? The AI in P3 isn’t smart lol you’d sooner get killed due to dumb combat AI than the Enemies themselves.

Absolute nostalgia goggles from this guy, man. I played FES a few years back and LOVED it, pretty much instantly became my favourite Persona title. Reload adds so much quality of life upgrades and things that fill out the characters and experience of the game that I really cannot understand how he has come away with these takes man. Anyway I hope they do remake Persona 2 I really wanna play that shit

People always underestimate the cost and effort needed to remake the soundstrack, recording the va for the new social links and rerecording story voice lines for femc along with all the other minor things.
I'll be honest I don't think not having femc is a downgrade it's a nice addition sure but not a massive make or break.

I feel like OG persona 3 fans just don’t want to have fun in video games. I’ve been playing games for a lil over 2 decades and many of them of have been turn based RPGs/JRPGs and my first persona game was 4 around November-December. That being said there are so many things the newer personas do that are annoying af and just flat out aren’t fun compared to other JRPGs in the combat and sounds like to me og persona 3 is just the worse one out of the bunch as far as combat goes. I sadly don’t own a ps2 anymore and my laptop is a crappy Chromebook that can’t run any emulators so I can’t try FES for myself, but a turn based RPG right now in 2024 with no full party control and a bloody fucking stamina bar is not my idea of fun 😅 lmfao
Snickety has some AMAZING videos about persona games. Especially 1&2 but this P3R one felt VERY much like he was just doing it cause he knew being openly negative would get his video more traction. Shame to see this is the route he decided to take with some of his content, though.
Yeah, I've been watching him for a while and and I really love his Compendium series, and how much work he puts into those. But this review just feels like lazy rage bait which is extremely disappointing. You can have issues with the remake but to call it soulless and worthless is absolutely ridiculous. He clearly just hates remakes and was ready to shit on Reload from the beginning. Such a shame

Both of these guys love Persona 3 but one clearly knows how to share his opinion out of love, and one just hates on the game. I prefer Reload for a lot of reasons, but We should be able to love these games because they're all Persona 3 and they're all peak
Persona 4 dungeons and tartarus are the same thing with a different coat of paint. Dungeons are just the individual blocks of Tartarus with their own entrance
bro I have played persona 3, 4 and 5. I can say that Tartarus is not a good mechanic, in some ways it feels repetitive and honestly there is nothing memorable about the floors (I recently played reload and I still don't remember well the difference between the different stages ) while both 4 and 5 can generally remember the aesthetics of the dungeons and their final boss.
In my case, it is difficult to forget Okumura and the Rise palace since the two final fights of this palace were horrible. In my case, I was 4 levels below, I was playing in hard and it was a nightmare.

Aside from the fact that this guy's review is VERY nitpicky, I want to just say something about the difficulty.
Is Reload easier than FES? Of course. Controlling party members and theurgy was always gonna make you more powerful. But I think one thing this guy misses in his review is he needs to check his bias. The game is also way easier to him, because he's played the original. He knows exactly what to expect. He knows the strategies, he knows exactly how combat works, and this is knowledge that a lot of new players won't have that makes a huge difference.
I've talked with people who played this as their first persona game, and while this game's not super difficult, they have told me its not that easy and theydie a fair amount of times. I played the game on merciless. Its not as difficult as you're average SMT game, but I personally found the challenge to be satisfying enough. Enemies hit really hard on merciless, so you have to be careful. You can't just mindlessly hit things in combat. You do have to strategize or you will die. Nyx wasn't too bad, but that was mostly because I was overleveled at the end. And again, while extra difficulty would be nice, the player can always tweak this with self imposed challenges to an extent. And I don't come to persona games for difficulty anyway. I come for the story and characters, which Reload absolutely nailed.
I agree and let's just not pretend that P5R was super easy on Normal difficulty, even for newcomers.
I started with P5R and played it on Normal. Didn't even cared using stats debuffs and stuff because it wasn't necessary to me as a first timer. Only when I played it on Hard that I understood the importance of those moves.
And p5R has a lot of buffs and upgrades to the battle system via the confidants that makes the game EASY AS HELL, because the ranks weren't important to gain the bonus xp on fusion, since you could just grab a high level persona and sacrifice if you wanted to level up another one.
O p3 that didn' existed and it made the fuse bonus much more interesting and important to me
I played P3R in merciless and I have 15 hours of lost progress of pure deaths. I have so much fun with this games, I never felt the theurgys were overpowered at all and I had to do actual strategies into the bosses, I wish I could play this game for the first time again.

He's saying how in the original you could only suggest what your team should do. You did not have the luxury of direct commands. It was really bad a lot of the time. Especially when mommy I mean Mitsuru decides to spam Marin Karin for no reason

Nah bruh I got stuck on Okumura and after the the timer went off for the 4th time I switched it too easy. I was not about to deal with that. It’s not the hardest but probably is the most annoying gimmick infested one.
Some of his points are valid, but 99% of it feels like fishing for comments/engagement

in terms of soundtrack, that's debatable for me. There are some original soundtrack that i really hate ( changing seasons, etc ) and the song that feels incomplete because the lack of second verse ( burn my dread last battle, when the moon is reaching out to you ). And also the opening song that both takes the cake ( i like full moon full life better because of the fact that i can actually hear the lyrics, and the lyric struct me really hard
So in my case, in terms of soundtrack, there's no which one is better between reload and remake
Cutscene? Yeah, i agree that some of it are better in og, because it capture the creepyness more better, and also better coreography, but sad cutscene? Reload takes the cake.
Original cast? While there's some va that really questionable ( Akihiko ) but the rest are fine, i even like reload Yukari more than the og. What makes people really hate Yukari in the og, is because the va direction in the og making her like a really Rude person, even though she's not ( based on the JP dub in the og game ), so making her more nicer than the og is just like the dub JP, so... Yeah, i guess both also take the cake
Then again, this is just my preference, im not saying FES is much better than reload( unlike some of the elitis in the fandom ), and im not saying Reload can replacing FES, but like someone said in the random yt comments

Persona 3 Reload is not Persona 3/FES, and honestly, it shouldn't be. Why remake a game if it's going to be a 1-1 copy? At that point, just repackage a PS2 emulator and an ISO of the game.
My first time ever playing persona was p5r, so i did get stuck on a couple bosses cause i was underleveled or whatever else. Also i ignored my healer a lot of the time for extra damage which was obviously not good 😂
I'll say one thing. I wasn't impressed with the awakening cut scene compared to the original/FES. Sorry but the 3D in-game engine cut scene just didn't give me the kind of chill the original animated cut scene did.

I think that Reload brings new identity to the characters through linked episodes. The characteristics and Theurgy's in combat make each character stand on it's own, and makes using all of them valuable options.
This guy is a prime example what happens when you let your nostalgia blind you.
And honestly if it weren't for P3R, P3 wouldn't be my 3rd favorite Persona game, while I don't think P3FES game is bad or anything, the gameplay (especially when you explore Tartarus and that dumb tired mechanic) just felt annoying to go through, and it doesn't help that I can't even fully control my party members.
Also of course P3R is going to be easy, especially if you already play the original or just play other Persona games in general. 💀
I felt the game was very easy for me to the point it did make the game less fun. the final three bosses needed two turns every round. I think multi target aliment healing was way easy availbile. Aliments are suppose to deel like they have a impact but if you can get rid of them so easily then they are pointless. Night queen was so cool looking in reload but was nerfed so hard it was sad to see. I do think Shift/baton pass does make battles way to easy, was interesting when strega could use it though. Apart from this reload is great in mine eyes. Never cared for femc don't think reload should be judge negatively for not including her. I also prefer tartrus over p4 and p5 dungeons.

The enemies are faster than you but only if they’re in raged. And they do still block you off but only in early floors. Tartarus actually gets more open and wider and therefore it’s easier to run around the shadows. But I stopped fighting the shadows and just hunted the gold hands exclusively. Whenever I enter new area I’m always over leveled and all enemies are scared of me so they never attack
But yeah that Reaper it never shows up unless you’re in a dark room. I hear people say that he’s Block some off from the exit, but like how ? The Reaper only got those people because they’re Loitering for eight minutes and hell. He slowly walks at you. Not that it matters you can just skip to the next floor whenever you want

What’s nuts to me is that some of this guys’ complaints about the battle system are ADDITIONS to the game. Theurgy breaking the balance, non-AI party members breaking the balance, etc. You can choose NOT to do these things, no? If you want a vanilla P3 battle experience (why would you want that over any of its 3 other versions anyways) you can just choose NOT to do these things? I see other TH-camrs playing the game their first time hand off control to the AI, and it was enjoyable to them. I can see no-Theurgy challenge runs being a thing. Those aspects existing in the game *do* make it easier, yes, but if that’s his trouble, he can choose not to use them instead of grumping about how optional systems ruin combat.
Tartarus > Persona 4 dungeons. Persona 4 tried to “fix” Tartarus but half assed. I would also way rather play Tartarus than say, Okumuras palace.
My OG persona game was Persona 3 Portable and never finished it because I was busy starting college. I tried to get back to it a couple of years ago and after having played Persona 4 and 5, I just couldn't get back to Tartarus.
People say this is the best Persona story because it is actually dark but makes a lot of relatable/real life points so why are some people gate keeping it. 90% of the revamp (graphics, QoL) was for the better.
Persona 3 on the PlayStation two was just a around more gloomy game. I like the dorms and the old game better and it was a lot more subtle but it is weird how we’re just sitting in the dark. To me it sounds like they remove style for realism. For a reload you notice when the dorm instantly becomes White or Green. It hits like a truck

more or less the visuals and atmosphere of the original are better which just didn't seem to translate well in reload despite the impressive graphics, like the dorm in reload can look better by turning the brightness down but in the process and can make tartarus's inside look too dark and not being able to see the details

Also Nyx was a harder in the origional. Instakills were stronger in the original.
I just love the Persona series because of the story first of all, started with Persona 5 royal and played p4g after. played p3r on gamepass and loved the shit out of it, and yes I got emotional a lot like with all the persona games. Don't mind what others have to say about it I just love it, can't wait on the next ip Metaphor!!!!
More people need to be like you where you're just here for the ride and have fun with the series as a whole

Nah reload was way easier than persona 5 or Royal lmao not saying it was hard either or anything, but reload is by far the easiest persona I’ve ever played. Doesn’t make it bad tho it’s still a challenge on merciless as it should be. I doubt this dude even tried doing that.
In P5 a basic melee or sneeze for a matter of fact one shots enemies, I cannot do that in P3R.
Hot Take: I think we should have had the choice to have the tired mechanic, because the game has never been balanced well since. Lock it behind a choice before you start hard or merciless as well. It would change how you play the game so much and it would be a different type of difficulty that isn't just damage and levels
Yea na. A game where you're on a literal timer in the form of the calendar should absolutely NOT have stupid ass "stamina" mechanics to gatekeep you from dungeon progression. Tf is this? A gacha game where we use stamina to grind and get told to buzz off and come back later ? Lmao
@@justsomeguy727 it incentivizes using all of your characters other than using just one team. The reason why it doesn't matter as much at the end is because you have a spare 4 party members to swap in. And I'm not saying that it should be mandatory, but a choice for difficulty... Especially since it is extremely easy to one night a block of Tartarus, I'm sure most people did. I thought I was running out of SP and I had leftover after I beat the game. Physical was king, especially when you stack crit. We have the Theurgies, with some physical ones... And one that tops you up with 2 free reflects. I don't think an optional fatigue system will be that bad

Worthless? Your only legitimate alternatives are the port of Portable with compressed audio and some visual glitches, somehow finding physical copies of the game on PS2 or PSP. Plus, minus exclusion of FeMC, it is 100% the best way to play the game.
No it isn't, it's a 70$ price of garbage making you pay for content missing from the original as dlc, and will still be missing content. Not to mention the worse looking art and background models, even the character models suck, the dancing game had better ones, but it's pathetic when a 70$ ps5 game looks worse and plays worse than a ps2 game, aside from being insultingly easy, god forbid a jrpg do something different and idiots had to get the ai party members removed and use the incredibly dumbed down ai from p5.
I’ve enjoyed playing P3P as the FeMC and became a big fan of her. I think jumping into FES over Reload is the right move for me next after playing P3P. Plus the expansion pass is some BS for everyone except Xbox players.

Yes brcause P3 is a PS2 game a simple HD Remaster of FES wouldve been better. I have this philosophy of that unless the game doesn't have VA or has really unplayable battle controls then PS2 games simply need remasters and not remakes... games like P1, P2, SMT if, SMT IV(both IV & Apocalypse)etc need remakes. It's all about accessibility & exposure, something P3 doesn't need. With the proper promotion a trilogy Remake of P1 & 2 would easily outsell P3R
I highly disagree, the new qol changes, improved and added battle mechanics, new story changes and additional linked episodes make the game not just more accessible but also just more fun overall. Was fes good? Yes but it needed many improvements and changes people complained out for years. Im glad they went above just a remaster and actually gave something of better quality the effort they put into these games is really good.
