      Thanks Nithya 😊, yes the scene back in India is improving and we see better plants seeping into the market. And as most things, the plants are comparatively inexpensive. Still way behind Australia and the West in terms of the range of exotics available easily. But I see India catching up in this area hopefully soon.

    I bought many plants 🪴small in Walmart because they are cheaper than nursery or homedepot. They are getting bigger now within less than 2 weeks. I paid for 2.94 small 4 in. Walmart I have to go every two days for new shipments. Once they got their more than 2 days people got the hands on them. They won't be nice. I won't buy to thousands of dollars. My I usually repot some of them to got more room to grow. The worst kind I got is lucky bamboo. All the rest of different plants I got are growing beautiful

    Hi u have a good collection and I loved it.How come they are rare? These are available in any nursery in Bangalore. Even in Mannuthi , Thrissur too it has all the possible varieties of Calathea, Agloniama etc etc

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Saswathy, Bangalore,Pune and some other places (especially the south) are special and has probably the best availability of plant varieties. But there are other places where these plants are not seen commonly. It also depends on which nursery one frequents. Some nurseries have a great selection in comparison to others and those frequenting it might find these plants common. For eg. I found the burrito sedum in large numbers in a place in hossur, and I have never come across that in all my nursery visits before or after. But this does not represent the median of availability of plants across the country. I have seen most of these for the first time in Mumbai a major city, though I visit multiple nurseries locally. There are others too who have commented or sent me IG messages who want these plants but have not seen them at all. Also the trend is changing. Maybe in a years time (hopefully sooner) these plants will become common across more regions in India.

    Hi..great video and very informative. Am a newbie and would like to know what soil you use for your plants. Do you remove the nursery soil when you repot? Would you recommend the potting soil mix which we get to buy online?

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sandhya, welcome to the channel :) Firstly many nurseries sell plants in clay soil and it compacts & suffocates the roots over time in most cases. Many delicate plants need to be repotted otherwise they may not survive. I would let some plants like the hibiscus stay in clay soil but I would definitely repot a succulent (most nurseries pot them in the wrong mix). If you can repot all of them that would be great. I do most of mine. I repot my plants to a soil with around 25-30% compost, 25-30% garden soil, 25-30% coco-peat, around 10% sand\perlite\claypebbles for moisture loving tropical plants.
      Online potting soil is very good to use but becomes a costly affair when you do a lot of gardening or keep many Plants. That is why I mix my own soil. Also use with caution as there are many brands that exist out there, some by smaller companies. Some mixes might carry a higher proportion of a particular pre-mixed fertilizer that a specific plant may not like. Test a brand on a couple of plants and then after a while use for your other plants ideally.

    Good evening mam, I have been following your video since a month. I am from Andhra, Rajahmundry town and I am a school teacher teaching English. I am a plant lover too. I love the 17 rare indoor plants you are showing. They are gorgeous. Can I get the same kind of plants from you for which I will pay. Please let me know for which I will be very grateful to you. R.Vihari, Rjy, A.P.

    Its Jimmy, new to your video and subscribed of course. very good and cool presentation and the way you present it, shows your passion for plants. loved it and waiting for more informative videos. Some of the plant names are quite difficult to memmorise really. Are you using botanical names? Anyway good going, all the best.

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jimmy, hoping to keep making such videos 😊. Yes I do use botanical names & common names too. If they are hard to remember, they most likely are botanical names. But some plants are known by their botanical names more popularly. For eg. Begonias. But the full botanical name for a specie of begonia will be 'Begonia Maculata'. The advantage of using a full botanical name is that there is no confusion and it will point to one unique plant. When using common names, there can be ambiguity sometimes. For eg. there are multiple plants that can be\are called blue bells.

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dr-madhusmita-sahu wow that's cheap compared to here! Also I do use plastic pots too, though my long term goal is to convert all to ceramic and terracotta pots I have been collecting slowly (I have way too many plants for an apartment!). Some of my larger pots are plastic and I reuse the nursery pots that the plants come with. I rarely go out and buy new plastic pots.

      Yes I enjoy plant shopping! 😊 That most likely is a lipstick Aglaonema and Rs.650 seems to be steep for it! There is Vrishika nursery in vile parle that is very good for uncommon plants. But mostly all nurseries in Mumbai are quite expensive. You can also check out Ankur nursery in Chembur and Lila nursery in Santacruz.

    Nice video i need little knowledge from you i want to make terrace garden at my roof top size is 22ft by45 ft and i want to make vertical planting at my house entrance please suggest me what type of plants i can use for vertical planting because the height of my wall is approx20ft tall

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thats a great amount of space you have. For your vertical garden, you can use various varieties of ferns, some hardy pothos and philodendrons, bromeliads, alternanthera species etc. Note that these are humidity loving and how much sunlight the wall receives etc will determine how well the plants do + your watering. Read up a lot on this subject online as your doing it on a larger scale.
