I can’t praise this style of lesson enough - taking a very well known tune and progressively embellishing it. Thank you from a 55 year old professional electronic musician who only got to grade 4 piano as a schoolboy. The “known” factor of a familiar tune helps the advanced knowledge go in so much more easily. Thank you 🙏

This is pure gold, thank you. A know tune with progressive development. A really clear explanation of chord extensions and alterations. I do believe that some of it is beginning to sink in. Thank you Jonny.

YOU EXPLAIN THINGS ABOUT MUSIC IN A WAY THAT HELPS TO SOME EXTENT, BECAUSE I TRIED TO LEARN MUSIC FROM AN OLD NEIGHBOR WHO I DON'T SEE ANYMORE, BUT WHEN I DID, I ALWAYS PLAYED IN MY OWN WAY BY PLAYING WITH ONE HAND AND NOW I WANT TO TRY TO LEARN SO MANY INSTRUMENTS THAT ARE DOUBLE HANDED INSTRUMENTS, BECAUSE I CAN'T KEEP RHYTHM VERY WELL WITH MORE THAN THE SONG OF HEART AND SOUL, SO, I WANT TO LEARN OTHER SONGS.

Level 0 - as a duet and simpler right hand. That’s where kids start

Nice demonstration. I wish there was a more detailed lesson on the late intermediate version.

Gosh...I am a beginner and feel a little intimidated here! Could it be that I am a slow learner?😢

If I had Jonny as my bf, I would definitely learn to play piano much faster :)

Thanks for this. I've subscribed, and I think I will hate most of your lessons. (grin) I like version 1 of this, although it;s hard to get the swing right. At the core, however I think of music as simpler than this. From version 2 on, I can't sing the lyrics. I don't like version 2 with the tune coming in on the offbeat. It loses the poignancy of the original song.
In the add 2 and add 4, you don't mention that you really don't want to do this as adjacent notes. Unless it's suiper short, it sounds like a train wreck.
The use of 4 note chords in the left hand muddies things up too much. This is particularly true in the lower register of the paino. Even triads sound muddy. In my composition I'm using lots of two note chords, either fifth, fourth or minor thirds in the left hand.
Another thing that is not obvious to me as a beginner: You talk easily of chord extensions with 9, 9b, 9#, 11, 13 etc. But you act is if they can be played in any octave. And yes, they sort of can. But no, they sound way different.
At a simpler level, a C major chord CEG can be played in root, or first (EGC) or second (GCE) inversions. but they don't always sound right when you do that.
Your level 3 and beyond are introducing too many new concepts at once. Break it down more.
    ***
Off hand, this vid should be split into 5 different vids. And each one should show some variations. E.g. The easy beginner may start with just a simiple single note CAFG sequence. 2nd version C - EG ; A-CE ... Third variation is what you did C; C EG;EG. You can also show that you can show that you can sub a Dm for the F.
I think at heart, i don't really like jazz. That's on me. I can still learn from you vids.
