This has been one of the few times where the making of the jig actually seemed manageable and explained very well and clearly. Thank you very much for the video!
Finally, someone that explains it well without trying to suck money out of you lol. You have no idea how many new people are still learning but don't want to spend a bunch of money on each video they watch! I'll be looking out for your future videos. Thank you so much!
Love your work Skyler. If you don't mind a suggestion, if you make your stop block exactly one inch thick, the any desired cut can be made by adding one inch to that measurement. If you want a two inch piece, set the fence at three inches, etc. This eliminates trial and error or math mistakes. I have had mine for years.
Love this pattern I was hoping for you to please make a video with how to make an eight point star and what angle pieces would accompany it in a similar fashion design as this video's creation Please thank you
I like the jig, the innovation of using a hold down for the cut off so it doesnt fly off. I'm not sure its any faster then using a miter saw with a stop block.
I love the quiet and calm approach, it makes it easy for beginners to follow along and understand what is happening. 👌 Often TH-camrs go way too hard on it with high-end machines and way too fast review as if you already know everything you are trying to learn.
I have lots of scraps and want to make some mosaic signs. This will work great for me. Both jigs are going to be super useful. But the first one… that really got me. I like how you put the strip across to hold things down. I always get nervous that small pieces like that will come out. And that’s a great sheild.
Thank you! I just started working with geometric wood art, and I've been having trouble getting consistently sized shapes. I thought a jig would work, but I didn't know how to build it. Your teaching explained it and was very easy to follow. Subscribed. Your work looks very nice btw.
Hell this is the first time I seen someone actually take the time to show you what they are doing. Some of the build it in front of you but they don’t show you how they do it.
Nice but simple jig. I've watched other videos about making jigs. Yours is one of if not the best video. I've cut 90 and 45 degree angles using a circular saw and often they didn't come out as accurate as I liked so a jig makes good sense for making multiple cuts.
Nice video ! I sometimes have to cut hundreds of very small pieces. I use an empty shop vac that sucks up the cuts and all you do is empty the vac and separate the pieces from the saw dust. No stopping necessary. Works like a charm. Subscribed!!!
well that was great i've seen videos and it seemed way out of my league so never tried it thank you and all the stuff you doing looks GREAT if i can get as close to what you are doing
Love your channel and what you create! I think I figured out your 2 jig problem. I made the diamond jig and was thinking about how to improve to the other shapes jig. Then it hit me, how to use the diamond jig for both. All you have to do is put a piece of your shaped stock between the blade and the fence to get the width, lock your fence and take out the stock. Now you can make the other patterns and take them out just like the diamonds. Also you do not have to guess at width.
Skyler, the only thing this video lacked was some Christmas music in the background.....but you certainly put us in the mood. I appreciate you talking a lot about kickback because as I watched you that was certainly on my mind. I like your jig and as I'm headed out to my shop I could possibly be making one of my own. Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂
Thank you. If only you had shown how to combine blocks into a completed unit and how many of each colour... No, I am not asking you to come to Australia and assemble it for me. Anyhow, thanks, you are fantastic and an inspiration.
Thank you Skyler. I love your diamond jig and the additional safety flap to block the potential kickback. I will need to save this video so that I can make this jig for my next geometric cutting board. I really appreciate your guidance!
Beautiful work!! Thanks for taking the time to share and explain so well. You really inspire me to try things I might not do if I hadn't.t watched this video. P.S. I also share your same passion...photography! I've viewed those videos too. Keep doing what you"re doing. You add so much pleasure to us all.
Hi Skyler, love the video but how do you glue everything together? A square or rectangular board is relatively easy, clamp the sides to get a tight fit and over the top to prevent bowing but how do you do that with a hexagonal block made of many small shapes? I looked for a video showing how you did the next stage but couldn’t see one, any chance you could make one?
You use one of the following: elastic bands, large hose clamps, painters tape (how you do miter joints when framing), or string. Small pieces are easier if you place them on a strip of painters tape so you can open them out to put glue in the joints then place them together. I personally use large hose clamps I make up myself but bands work just as well if trickier to get the diameters correct.
Great video Skyler. If you secure a shop vac hose near where the pieces come off the blade they will be sucked up and you wouldn’t have to stop. I use it for cutting very small pieces on my miter saw as well.
Hi , greetings from Colchester, England, just a note to say how much i enjoy your videos but this one in particular really got my attention and has provided inspiration to me, the geometric pattern you have there is totally stunning, please keep up the good work and thank you 😀
@@woodworkingwithSkyleralso might use a angled piece the length of the saw blade attached with double sided tape for the pieces to fall away from the blade as they are cut off.
Love the work you are doing. Awesome.!!! When using the stop block, move it up parallel to the blade and then measure the one inch or what ever the width of the board is. Then move it back, clamp it as you did, move the wood up to the block, then cut it.
I made this rig today, and it happens that i can get all the shapes up to 4 with it, if you count the triangle. I just needed to move the fence to a little less than 2 inches for the other shapes.
Love the shape that your working on. The 3D affect is amazing! I would just like to point out that the pattern top right side, about 2 o'clock is not quite right. Its not the same as the other side. Hopefully you picked it up prior to glue up, unless you planed it that way, Your work is fantastic Regards Nick.
Hi Skyler, great demonstration! The only change I would recommend is to measure that 1” to the stop block. The prices for wood at my local Woodcraft store have really shot up over the past 6 mos, sometimes doubled. Trying for less waste 🤔
And, using a stop block reduces the chances of kickback. It would attach to the fence and the fence would have to be moved the same amount equal to the width of the stop block.
Hi Skylar, I am new to your channel. The project in your video I made about a year ago. The bevelled edge on every piece is novel. That had to a complete nightmare to finish. Every piece in alternate grain directions. Can I ask you if you left it in flat and in the shape shown in your video. I had to create many jigs for this project for gluing each of the many sub sections. Did you make a video of making this project ? I’m sure many would love to see it. I am a woodworker of over forty years. I always find it fascinating how each creator approaches tasks in different ways. Many thanks for your efforts. Ricky
Hmmmm, I can’t find one thing to correct you on, there is always a better way to do anything, keep up the good work, I’ll keep on watching, thanks for sharing
First time here. This was interesting. As I watched, you said you would have to cut two or three pieces and then stop the saw to remove the cut pieces so they would not get caught in the blade. Could an arm be attached to the sliding board to pull the cut pieces out and fall into a bucket? The piece that actually pulls the pieces out would need to be smaller than the pieces you cut. The design is for you to determine. Have good days!
Hi This was an excellent and well elaborated presentation. This a work of art. I will definitely try to copy your instructions. After I get the pieces how do I attach them together? Do I glue them? I like to copy your other finished item on your left. It would be nice if you show how you make the final work. If I learn how to put them together like you did , I like to pour epoxy on them. What do you think ? I appreciate your in put. I must say you are an artist.
This has been one of the few times where the making of the jig actually seemed manageable and explained very well and clearly. Thank you very much for the video!

Doing these geometric designs as an inlay would be really cool.
Excellent presentation.
Nice Jigs.
Question: how did you get precise chamfers on such little pieces.
Great question, plus I want to see the glue up process.

I am wondering the same thing. I guessed maybe it was the two parts glue but I'd love if she'd reply with the clarification.

Small pieces are easier if you place them on a strip of painters tape so you can open them out to put glue in the joints then place them together. I personally use large hose clamps I make up myself but bands work just as well if trickier to get the diameters correct.
