2x Amazon Vans that we also had to do. This one we actually enjoyed as it was in a very secure, flat area.

I'm shocked at the price of that diff and I was appalled by the rust on the X trail for a six year old car, not a good advert for nissan. I'm happy to see you guys using axle stands too. This is my second video of you working and it's a pleasure to see you on the jobs and you must be good to have a contract with Amazon.

Williams is an OG for clutch's but that's what he specialises in, therefore has more experience and knows them inside out. He is Mr Clutch.

Great work, I would not pay that for a new diff, I got mine from eBay and serviced it. Works perfectly
Totally agree that cars need proper servicing, but I'm not sure that running out of oil would crack the casting in two like that. The teeth on the crown gear don't look too bad either. I wonder if the casing broke first, and that's why the oil came out. Could be impact damage, or someone jacked it by the diff if it's not meant to be jacked that way, or just a bad casting. My money is on failure of the case though rather than it running dry first.
We could only really speculate and hear what the customer said😅. He said he was on the motorway and boom there goes his diff.
Part of his diff actually hit the car behind and had to spend over 1k to repair the damaged car behind him. Let’s just say it wasn’t a cheap one for him.
My money is still on old oil. Oil inside was black and thick, like CV Boot grease, as seen on the video although I can’t rule out what you guys are saying as it is still a possibility
If it was bad casting then there should be several reports of this kind of failure. Ive seen casting failures on land rovers and it occurs on many many vehicles.
I've heard of diffs breaking like this to do too much flex or torsion, which could be caused by a failure in any of the support structures or bearings.
It's all speculation though.

Interesting with the Nissan Xtrail has the same rear subframe as my 2011 Nissan qashqia and they do rust unfortunately and will get worse if not maintained with winter protection.
Maintenance is important as got caught out not bleeding my concentric slave cylinder on the clutch despite doing everything else.
Really enjoying your videos. I want to treat myself to some battery impact tools. What would you recommend. Already have some m18 tools but happy to change colour. Thanks

As a non mechanic myself, not only Am i amazed at the the speed of your jobs, but the fact you can carry out the jobs on just jacks and no lift ?
It can be done on the ground ,a bit more challenging but can be done 👍

For a manufacturer lifetime is 100.000 miles (ish) After that things start to break because peope hear life time of the car so if some one buy the car with 90,000 on it and it breaks down they say "but its life time off the car" Then you can say tecnicaly it already is at its end of life thats wy stuff breaks on the car.
my friend got one of them diffs for £400 hundred quid secondhand never pay full price good video bud
Unfortunately we couldn’t get hold of one. A lot of them were for the older model. If there is one, they’re not in the UK and customer needed it back on the road ASAP

I bought a Mercedes with 300k on the clock from a chauffeur who spent a fortune on it, oil changes every 5k. I asked him when the rear diff oil was done, and he said what's that? I had it done straight away, my mechanic said the oil was burnt and dark but no metal in it fortunately.... Still going great at 355000 👌

Corsa d 1.4 should be okay. Lower transmission side subframe and letterbox it. It should be straightforward to do I’d say 😅

Did the diff leak the oil, or was it really because of age? Surprised at the price of the thing
The diff never leaked according to the customer and we actually checked the MOT certificate, nothing of that sort was ever mentioned🤷. I was surprised too!
I caught 2 driver's of those Amazon vans deliberately using them as bumper cars!

Lifetime means to the end of the warranty period.
I'm also a little skeptical to some of the supposed "lifetime" fluids that the manufacturers like to boast about. Strangely enough though, I did change the manual transmission fluid for the first time on my 2004 seat ibiza a few weeks ago and it looked basically brand new for 20 year old oil with a slight brownish tinge, I didn't notice any difference in shift feel either, felt like a waste honestly. 80K miles on the odometer.
It probably had a clutch replacement/new driveshaft of some sort somewhere down the line? I can only speculate but they usually go very orange in colour or greyish black.
It’s difficult to say because if you go to the manufacturer of the diff/gearbox they will always recommend to replace it around the 50-80k miles. BMW is a good example of this.
ZF (Gearbox Manufacturer) states in their website 50k intervals whilst BMW states ‘lifetime’ 😅

All vans that involve delivery drivers are mostly smashed to bits the fleet we deal with have just got brand new crafters and the driver smashed one down the side wirh 300miles on

The worst of them all is BMW 8G ZF Gearbox ‘lifetime’ oil. Next thing you know, your gearbox ain’t changing gears 😂. No pre-symptoms, no other warnings, just not changing gears due to old oil 😂
Surely the transits should be under warranty
