I like how you say "It works just fine for me". That's the difference between people who just repeat what others say and people that do things. You will know if it works or not when you do it.
I havd fitted many of these dizzys. They work amazingly well. 12volts WITH A RELAY AND THICK WIRES TO GIVE PROPER VOLTS AND AMPS REQUIRED FOR PEAK EFFICIENCY. MAKE SURE THE DIZZY HOLE IS VERY CLEAN FOR A GOOD EARTH!! Hope this helps.
I put one of those on a Cleveland back in the 90s it was called a DUI Davis unified ignition it was a 10000 RPM distributor Plus I loved onewire install I paid 500
Hey! So, I have a '74 K20. I got it running, but it didn't have much power when I stepped on the gas. I thought I needed to adjust the timing and tweak the carburetor. I started with the HEI distributor, set it to top dead center, dropped the distributor in, and put the spark plug wires in the right order. But it's still not running right, even though I know there's spark and it's getting gas. It cranks but won't fire, and now the carb is spitting gas out the top.
Its not running right or not running at all? I dont know what issue you had to begin with but I would guess you have the distributor 180 degrees out right now. Take the cap off and see where the rotor is aiming then pull the distributor and rotate it 180 degrees.
I dont blame you for going to electronic ignition but points are very easy and simple to adjust and work with. Dwell is an easy adjustment with a cheap dwell meter. Could you put a 90 degree fitting on the intake manifold for the heater hose would that stop it from hitting the cap? Looks like you have a lot of restoration work to do on the mustang.
Yeah at some point that is probably what I will do with the heater hose. The mustang definitely looks rough but has come a long way. My dad and I replaced everything from the firewall forward like 15 years ago. Frame rails, shock towers, torque boxes, radiator and radiator support, springs, shocks, control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, brakes... everything. Hoping to work on it this winter but that means putting the Caprice or Corvette in the tent and I have to figure out how to keep mice out first. Might try one of those zip up car covers.
Points and condenser's aren't really difficult to do, the issue for most people though is, the distributor has a bad reputation with moisture already, the points and condenser's only add to the misery, plus they need to be adjusted often. It's dead tech (if you can even call it that) and no one wants the hassle lol going electronic is cheap and soo much better.
Where does the coil spark plug wire go to when converting with this exact same distributor? I bought one of these off of Amazon as well as the two wire plug separately and I’m having a difficult time figuring out where to put the ignition coil wire from the factory ignition coil it used to go to the center of the old distributor cap.Thank you in advance for any help
The old distributor had an external coil to you had a short wire going from the coil to the distributor. This new distributor has an internal coil so you no longer need that short wire.
Hey I done a efi to carb swap on my 1990 f250 302, im installing one of these hei distributors, I have everything down so far but im not sure what to do with the efi wiring harness, like the harness for the lights and all that. Do you know what to do? Cause the hei distributor didn't come with a plug for the harness
Could you swap out the old ford gear to this distributor.don't chevy hei dizzy have that pin for the pump, and ford's the Allen type ? Can you do this on a BB 460 . Just curious.
There's a vacuum port on the carburetor. It will vary between different makes of carbs, though. On a 4 barrel Holley it's located on the front lower left hand side, on the base plate.
Super easy all you have to do Is set the distributor in with the rotor on and turn engine to TDC on number 1 and where the rotor is pointing Is where the number One is on Cap then mark with marker for the next sorry sap who has to work on it 😀
get the module out dont test it drop it in the bin get a bosh not a bosh like BOSH and go. my 67 mustang is to hot under the lid so i moved the module to the radiator bulk head , you will need double earthed armoured multi core wire to it
I had an issue with my HEI DISTRIBUTOR. I was wondering why wasn't my C10 truck starting . At first it was, no problem starting. Than I decided to install spark plug wires insulation sleeves. I had concerns about the wires to close to the exhaust. Anyway, once I remove the wire from the distributor. And putting everything back on the the same way. It wouldn't start. I said to myself what the heck is going on. I had fuel, New battery, New Starter. The engine would crank. I remove the power to distributor and reclip it back in the HEI BATTERY TACH. It started first turn on the key. I believe once you remove the wires from the distributor, u have to reboot the HEI BATTERY tachometer. I'm I correct? Please advise. Thank you Robert
Hey great video, I saw when you turned on the car that the oil pressure gauge worked. On my 67 I have a 351w and I can't get the oil pressure to work right I have replaced the oil pressure sensor, but still nothing. My gauge reads high. I know my gauge works, what oil pressure sensor do you use?
My wife a school teacher and most the kids are going into high school not able to tell time unless it’s digital. Hell, in my area the of the country the best thief deterrent is a manual transmission in your automobile. Gen X don’t know how to drive a stick shift
@@Struggleville2 full details please 67 mustang owner with a 1970 302 i know its hard but you know how did you set and seat the rotor for example or how is it wired i am just saying man you left allot of important details out
Jesus Christ, man that was the most uneducational thing I've ever seen. You focused on a lot of BS when you could have gotten to the important facts. Like one, it doesn't matter where the MF distributor falls, you can run number one from there. Did you know that!!! Ok number two, it only takes a Electronic Ignition distributor off an old Ford and the PCM off the driver fender and the four wire harness that goes from the PCM to the distributor. Run a hot wire from a fuse to the red wire coming in the PCM, it will be with a while wire. It's done
The best thing going for that Ford(Fix or repair daily) is that GM HEI distributor being used to make it run better. Who ever made this conversion distributor happen . I envy .
Actually the Hall Effect Ignition isn't near as good as the Dura spark ignition. it uses the same components as MSD. except for the ignition module. and the Dura spark is a direct wire up to the MSD module. and Dura spark is a true CDI (capacitive discharge ignition). and HEI distributors have an issue with the bushings failing. because of all the weight from the mechanical advance being up high on the distributor shaft. not to mention the fitment issues.
I feel you might have skipped a few steps, like the whole installation side.
I like how you say "It works just fine for me".
That's the difference between people who just repeat what others say and people that do things. You will know if it works or not when you do it.
Make sure HEI is connected to =12v and not though a ballast resistor or ballast wire.

Great video. The part about it needing to sit flush on the oil pump shaft saved me. Thank you

Make sure you have firing order correct. If it's a 5.0 ford none ho it's a different firing order than a 5.0 H.O or 351
Could you tell me the circumference of the cap? Not sure if I have enough room for that distributor.
how many volts are going to the coil? there is a resister in the stock wire, its not getting the full 12volts
Where was the number 1 plug on the HEI I can't find it any where
What kind carb do you have and where did you hook the vaccum to

I was asking myself the same thing put a 45 or 90 piece !!!
its been 2 years now is that Hei still working , if so what brand is it ?

Stop putting apostrophes in condensers!
2:19 Used a 90 degree fitting and my HEI clears it, on the 351 & 5.0
What gear does that HEI cone with? I assume you are running a flat tappet cam?

It needs 12 volts to the distributor. The hot wire from the original coil is not 12 volts if it has points.
What headers are those, did they clear your power steering? I have a ‘67 with a 289 with some junk shorties that i wanna swap out for long tubes
I have a 302 in a 2000 mustang with a single wire distributor where do I wire it properly?
Find your ignition wire and tap it into that wire so when you switch the key to the on position it’ll receive power I just did this on my 08
Is this the summit blueprint distributer?
Здравствуйте! Купил такой же только с красной крышкой.Какой зазор у шестерни и перемещение вала вверх- вниз. У меня 5мм. Это много?

What distributor would this engine be from?
Could you swap out the old ford gear to this distributor.don't chevy hei dizzy have that pin for the pump, and ford's the Allen type ? Can you do this on a BB 460 . Just curious.
You didn’t have any issues with the pink resistance wire stopping it from running?
Nope
Should the spark plug gap change?
Gap .035
Where does the vacuum line from the distributor should go?
There's a vacuum port on the carburetor. It will vary between different makes of carbs, though. On a 4 barrel Holley it's located on the front lower left hand side, on the base plate.
Do these HEI’s on a Ford interfere with a standard size air cleaner?
they are bigger than the oem distributor
Would you mind telling me exactly which distributor is the. ????
you showed no install. distributor on a table then it installed. How did you keep the gear on bottom of shaft? mine just falls off
Put a dab of grease or vaseline on it. Will stay on long enough to get it in place
Nice video an helpful. Wish it was a little more detailed on how you set the timing and found #1 on the cap etc etc
What?

Absolutely not. You're thinking to hard. 12v goes to BAT, tach wire goes to tach.
how do you know what number on the plugs? the caps are not numbers
i know right
Where is your coil? I didnt see it in the video
For the HEI the coil is under the cap. The wires on the side of the cap connect to it
Hey great video, I saw when you turned on the car that the oil pressure gauge worked. On my 67 I have a 351w and I can't get the oil pressure to work right I have replaced the oil pressure sensor, but still nothing. My gauge reads high. I know my gauge works, what oil pressure sensor do you use?
If your gauge runs High that means you got good oil pressure Lol
Which wire would I use on an 85 mustang 5.0?
Neither
How far does this distributor rev to?
This one can rev up to 8,000 rpms
Now you need to replace that carburetor with a Holley Sniper EFI
I just need the car to move so I can switch around the cars when working on it.
Should of got a duraspark n hei that
Chevy ignition on a ford defiantly an upgrade
MSD ignition is the better set up for a Ford.
Plug gap??? I'm a Chevy guy those have a .045 or .060 gap points plug gaps .035
Nice!
