Ida-Sophie Hegemann, born on March 21, 1997 in Duderstadt, is one of the world's best trail and ultra runners. At the age of 12, a sports teacher discovered her talent for running and ignited her enthusiasm for long-distance running. After her first national successes, she moved to a sports boarding school at the Olympic Training Center in Hanover at the age of 15 to intensify her training.
After a long period of injury in track and road running, she came to trail running in 2017 via a detour to a guest stage at the Transalpine Run. She took part in her first trail competition a year later at Germany's biggest trail running event, the Zugspitz Ultratrail. Ida won the marathon course there, laying the foundation for her trail running career. From then on, she competed in international races for the Salomon team in the Golden Trail World Series and was able to celebrate success in all major national races - including winning the Transalpine Run three times in a row, the 4-Trails, the Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival and various sections of the Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail. Ida has been a member of The North Face's international team since 2021, which also marked the start of her professional career.
Since then, she has also shown outstanding performances in international trail competitions over ultra distances, including podiums in the UTMB® World Series over the 100-kilometer and 100-mile distances. She is particularly proud to have won the silver medal in the long trail with the German women's team at the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Championships (WMTRC).
