One Picket Planter Plans:
www.whosthevos...
one picket. one planter. no fluff intro.
grab one of those pickets you organized so neatly and rip one strip at 1-1/4 inches. Move the table saw fence to 1" and rip one more strip
slide to the left, miter saw this time.
we will be using the 1" strip to make the legs. cut eight pieces at 7-1/2"".
sit the 1-1/4" aside for later.
with the remaining board, we cut 6 pieces at 6-1/4" and four pieces at 7-1/2".
it took a little tinkering to get to these results. I wanted the box to resemble a baby version of the three picket planter and still be kind of a cube shape.
to assemble we first take two of the longer 7-1/2" boards. Im using the term "longer" quite loosely here.
put those two boards together like this, and squirt a little glue down the sides.
go ahead and pop a comment of how many nails this planter is going to take.
take our baby legs and align them with the side, and nail them into place.
repeat this process one more time.
take your adorable little sides and stand them up like this. apply glue down the inside lip, place your 6-1/4" boards inside and nail them into place.
then, flip it around and repeat for the other side.
this might be a little tricky if you have a larger nail gun, if that is the case, you can nail the sides inplace from the exterior of the box. I just like to hide the nails on the interior when possible.
the nice thing with this box is that you do not need to rip the bottoms to fit
align them with the bottom and nail them into place.
drill a few holes for drainage and walla. an adorable baby planter.
hold me closer tiny planter, stay on the patio away from the highwayyyy
another option is to rip those bottom boards down a little thinner and install them as slats, so you can put a pot inside. works better for plants being kept indoors.

You are taking off my friend! Your name and plans are talked about a lot in woodworking groups! Well deserved, love your videos.
Thanks Justin :) and thanks for the confidence boost
Perfect for a table top center piece.
Totally perfect! Especially if you have a few other boxes around it too
You're such a positive and inspirational presence in this market. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks Frankie :)
This man make it look so fun
🤣 thanks Branson!
This is brilliant! You have a beautiful voice. You truly are The Voss!
Thanks Skippy *blushes*
Another idea I would love to see you try would be a house number plaque with a planter on it! And also discussing mounting techniques on brick or vinyl siding! Thanks Aaron!
Theres an idea! ;) thanks buddy
Mini planter, I love it, and so will the wife!
Get out there and slap a few together!! :)
You are the man when making these planters. You got it down to a science. Very easy to understand, and the plans are an extra bonus.
Thanks for the great videos.
Thanks buddy :)
“Hold me closer tiny planter!” I love it!!! 😂
Keep up the great content brother!
Thanks buddy :)
I think he has a hidden talent in singing. :)
Love the one ticket planner. It makes nice for a three-tier. Wonderful job wonderful explanations. Thank you for what you do and how you show us how to do things in a simple way
Thanks Gail :) glad you're enjoying the content!
Nice channel, great production value (and humor) - I am trying to build the main pieces out of repurposed PALLET pieces and using Fence wood for the top lip and legs.
Sounds lovely!! Happy building :)
Wonderful. Just what I needed. Now the wife wants these ones made. Keep up the great work sir
Heck yeah! :) thanks buddy
I tell you what, you were awesome!! You don't only do great at what you do. You are good at commentating your work.I really do appreciate it. I'm a late starter, and this is the first time I have been using a nail gun. I'm going to start trying to make these. The nail count on my first box well.I quit counting after about 140. LOL. I also have to get shorter nails. I only had an 1/12". For a grown out mullet, wearing handicap 50-year-old lady.I'm gonna do the best I can. I appreciate what you do and all your videos.
You got this Jenny! :)
Awesome video!! Now try doing a planter that fits on a mailbox post. They would sell good. Great job!!
That would be a hot sell ;)
Wow!! Another great piece to add to my to do list 😎👍🏻
Heck yeah!
Love your videos. Thank you for the FREE plans.
Thanks YOU! :)
Lol I had to go back to you singing. You have some pipes!
🤣 thanks buddy :)
We have lift off! 😂. Another great video buddy! Thanks!
Thanks Ron :)
Another great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Lawrence
wham Bam, right to it. As always, thank you for the great content
Thanks AZBone! :)
I've seen your planter show up on my local marketplace. Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy, ive still got a 85 mile radius between me and the next planter guy luckily
Can wait to go down to shop and build one
Let me know how it turns out! :)
I Dont compare prices just because they are different sizes of the same shape. They are still a different designs. Different skills. Smaller means your hands are closer to the saw. Start at 25-30, especially with a pot included. Niche is a real thing, and the right person will eventually buy it. Im a grown ass man woodworker.....and those are stinkin' adorable 💯 i will 100% be making these and without a doubt i will be getting 20 bucks a pop for them, or even smaller as succulent planters. Your videos have been just getting better and better. The nail counter was an actual immersive and great idea, i literally counted along because thats what i do with my projects haha! Cheers!
Thanks buddy :) they are stinking adorable!
You are absolutely right. I actually started making these with scraps a couple weeks ago. Also made a long mini one too. Already sold one for 15. I was back and forth about the price though too, but I think you have a point.
Hey brother I subscribed a while back and absolutely love your no-nonsense videos.
If possible could you show us how you would upscale these planters? Since every time a great TH-camr like yourself puts out a new video on cheap simple planters Facebook marketplace instantly becomes flooded with that same idea.
Facebook groups for woodworking are filled with nothing but "look at how cheap I made a planter". I feel like woodworking is going into the free pallet and Cedar picket fence realm as opposed to anybody doing anything of real quality. Jointing, planning, heck at this point even sanding or staining is a thing of the past. Thank you and keep up the great videos❤
I feel ya 100%. I dont know why these dumb projects made from 2x4's get so many views. No size information, just shots of them drilling holes. It's one of my top pet peeves. (Although because those videos take me 4 hours total to produce, I make one every month during my research and scripting week where I plan out my projects) :P
I made 5 of the 3 picket planters. Turned out great. Might have to make 5 of these baby ones now. Maybe i should buy a table saw, would be a lot easier. Anyways, thanks a bunch!!!
Crank them out and buy one with the profits :)
Love the 3 picket’s baby sibling. One way I minimize nails on the outside is to nail through the sides into the legs. Only works for the first two legs on each panel, though.
True that :)
Very Cool 👍🏻👊🏻
YOURE very cool! :)
Very Cool!
Thanks buddy, it was a fun build :)
Thanks!
Thank you! :)
Love the song!!
🤣 thanks Kim, theres a jingle in every video
I always wanted to be the first one to comment on your video and I did it. I did not even wait to watch the entire video because I just know it's going to be great just like the others. 75 nails.
Great job buddy! ;) 75 was a little high thoughhhh
For those non USA woodworkers - one picker fence dimensions is 5/8-in x 5-1/2-in x 6-ft or 1.5cm x 14cm x 182cm
📏🇬🇧
Love it and I'm 2:45 into the video 68 nails!
So freakin closeeeeee
I am actually going to try my hand at another 1 picket, but a long one!!!!!! Ohhhh
Ughhhh!!! I didnt even think of making an adorable long box!!! It would be so cute!
Awesome video. Love the mini planter. Did you make the spinning tulips also?
Thanks buddy :) i bought the spinning tullips at Dollar Tree :)
Ok - now for the 0 picket planter! Jk - great video as always :)
🤣🤣 **makes negative picket planter, opens a black hole
@@WhosTheVoss If you put soil in there, you'd open a worm hole.
My first thought was 67 nails. Those are cute! Gonna have to make a few for the wife.
Close! Better slap a few together for her :) shell like them
One thing you could maybe do is staple in some landscaping fabric to the bottom to.hold the dirt and allow drainage.
Thanks buddy :)
I made 6 boxes today. Hopefully I can sale them. I have a tough market out here in west Texas.
Yeah, things are starting to slow down here in Illinois now too :/ Texas should be planter season year round! :)
Keep it up man. Always great stuff! Would love to chat with you on a few things sometime 👍
Thanks buddy :) Someday Ill do one of those live questions and answer shows
Great vid today, and you didn't even try to sing (thank God)
Yes I did, I sang "hold me closer tiny planter"
I was just wondering the other day how big a one picket planter might be. I’ve got a golden eponymous cutting that needs to be repotted. This one might be a bit small for the size of the plant. Might do the three picket size for it.
Build one of each :)
👍💯👍💯👍. Thank you
Thanks Higgiepop, that table saw sled is still in que, someday it'll happen :P
I may build these and just give them away with each full sized planter sold. May be a good way of forming bonds. People love free stuff.
I built quite a few of them during trial and error and have been adding them to larger orders as a freebie gift :)
What size brad nails are you using? Thank you for the video.
18 gauge 1 inch brads
@@WhosTheVoss Thank you Voss. I appreciate it.
My wife just said, "Look at his little swirly whirls."
🤣🤣 hit up dollar tree!!
With the small planter from the 3 planter video, I can’t fit my Brad nailer into it. Luckily, I have a 23ga pin nailer that does fit. I like using it for the top trim, too. Can’t see the nails and once the glue dries, just as strong.
I like it :)
When you need scale, I drop a dollar onto the surface to present the true size. Not once has anyone argued they thought the dollar bill was bigger, or they don't have one, like they may with a measuring tape. No matter how far or close the camera is, that dollar across the top of the box presents a scale even children understand.
I like it! BAM DOLLAR!
Did you use a leaf blower to spin the flowers at the end?
You don't know my life! But..yes..yes i did ;) lol
@@WhosTheVoss 🤣
What type of cordless brad nailer are you using
Its a craftsman 20v brad nailer, they are relatively inexpensive now since the "new" factor has worn off and they make larger framing nailers
Damnit time to buy more pockets.
How do you prep the before use? I have been sanding both sides but thinking I should start only doing one side for outside
Only prep i do is pulling the staple and tag off the bottom. :) I do face the "ugly" side towards the interior since you wont see it once it has dirt inside. Sanding the sides but leaving the legs rough is a popular option too :)
@@WhosTheVoss shit the amount of time I have wasted sanding fence pickets lol
do you ever sand or finish your boxes?
Nope, I leave them raw and unfinished unless a customer wants me to spray them with a UV protectant for an additional $5 :)
Did your miter saw come with the measurements or did you add that yourself?
It came that way :)
“ADDADABAGLUE”!
🤣🤣 ooofffff
Bearded Viking
Do you have a cut list on this one too
?
Yupp, its listed in the description :)
We need a video for the dashboard planter
Sighhhhsss, alright alright, but its not going to be for a little bit ;)
Where can I get some of your plans
Plans are in the description: click on "more" under the video, then click "more" to expand the description". Any plans I provide will be listed there :)
How small can they go?
In two weeks Ill show you one thats 2"x2" :) lol
What do you guys use to rip wood if you don’t have a table saw?
You can use a hand held circular saw and mount it upside down by building a plywood jig. I saw a video of someone doing that somewhere.
@@CaddoCreekWoodworks thank you. I will try to find some videos.
Piece of 2" insulation foam, lay your board ontop and rip it that way, use downward pressure so the board doesnt shoot out when cutting. Cedar is a very soft wood so you shouldnt have any problems :)
My question for you, How many tables have you made making the planters! LOL I know I have just put the bottom of the box on the wrong side.
🤣🤣 none so far, but I like the idea!
What is the height of the side pieces
The sides are 3" wide :)
What about a succulent planter box?
I had a baby baby planter in my new video "mailbox planter" its 2"x2" :) check it out
What are the dimensions inside of a possible plant??
🤷♀️ something smaller, plants get bigger as long as their roots can continue growing. So if you put them in a smaller box, they generally wont grow as big
I'm late for the planter season, but our condo community garage sale is next month and I was thinking of doing a set-up display with a small Christmas tree in it. Not too long from August to December. Might give someone ideas.😊
Three picket planter should work.
I've done a few tiny ones for the house, as they are harder for the cats to knock over.
My suggestion as to the small pieces is that if you nail them one at a time into each side, you'll get the nailer in better. Just something to try.
That could workk :) i see my cats trying to climb into these :p lol
Man makes planter, and the says he doest know what they thing is called when he is sticking the plastic planter in his planter lmao
Is it still a planter? An insert? Large plant tupperware? Idk
@@WhosTheVoss haha yea I think so, it's the plastic version, you make a wood version
😎🤩😁💰
64 nails
Dangggggggg Don! So close ;)

That baby is realllll solid with with 92 nails ;) i generally over shoot my guesses too
I'd price as $20 each, 3 for $50

Heck yeah!
