Something I've noticed about some mega evolutions is that they occasionally include elements of their previous evolution. Tyranitar is a probably the best example, but others include Salamence gaining part of its shell back, Manectric changing its headshape to resemble Electrike, and Gengar's silhouette/shrinkage of legs to resemble Haunter. It might be something to keep in mind if you need inspiration for an additional colour etc. for a mega evolution.

I really wish that instead of discarding it, gamefreak just changed megas slightly so that we could keep them around. As in, while not every Pokémon can have a mega, perhaps they could gain a large stat boost if you used it on them. Similar to dynamax in that every Pokémon can, but some get decent looking forms.

Mega Noctavispa looks insane. I like the concept thematically: where it schemes and plots but when it mega evolves it’s ready to show why it’s the boss
I feel like Mega Noctavispa doesn't look different enough or "Mega" enough. I feel like if the wings were bigger and the body a little sleeker it would give off a more intimidating, powerful vibe. But for a daily challenge, it's still really good. I like the color change

Ooooh I’m loving the universe of this challenge, a company trying to profit off of KAIJUS of all things is just an awesome, mildly funny, and accurate concept. I love genesis’ design, it looks so serene yet powerful, and earl grey is just an awesome mech design, I’m looking forward to the rest of Kaijune!! As for the mega evolution, YES i was so excited when I saw it was for Noctavispa. The minimello line is still one of my favorite Mazah region lines, and while I already wanted a Noctavispa on my team, I definitely want one now!!
Since my partner is from a very rural, wooded part of Pennsylvania... I love Genesis a lot. Reminds me of them and the anecdotes of them hunting and almost falling on their butt when they get out of the woods and reach the road again before heading home. Plus in general I love forests, creature designs that are genuine ecosystems in their own rights (hello Torterra!), and it also has Forest Spirit (y'know, from Princess Mononoke?) vibes, too. Great design! And the other two designs are also great!
It’s crazy how not only did you get the general real world reference for Scarlet and Violet correct, but also the THEMES (traditionalism vs modernity, old vs new) correct. Jack is an oracle.
Wooo! PA represent! Loving Genesis's twisted, yet gentle design. Aw, those white stripes on Noctavispa's stinger really gave it a nice pop. Also helps tie it to the wasp theme. Otherwise a great design and pose, really gave me an Emperor Zerg feel.
The new style that you bring to these challenges really gives the whole thing a lot more character and gets people including myself more invested, keep doing your great work man.
the amount of editing , work , design and world building in these videos is fantastic I honestly think there's nothing like this on other channels and it gets me motivated to keep creating no matter what
NICE! I liked the oldest Noctavispa design especially for its pose as it sinisterely reaches for something with its arm! Second design lost that sinister and creepy feel, but Now we have a new feel that however returns back to being evil! Now the default Noctavispa does look Intimidating as it should be! Mega Evolution was really impressive, I'm just happy that the Normal Noctavispa did get its Intimidating look back!
If I might give my thoughts as to your designs, I want to say you absolutely nailed your designs, presentation and theme. While not perhaps the most interesting way to have taken the prompt Genesis (perhaps something relates to birth, or the creation of the universe. Or even religion if you're feeling spicy), the execution was incredible. Absolutely amazing. Beautiful, evocative and sad story as well. The little background was a nice touch. I kinda wish that following its murder, an alien forest has grown from its corpse that can't be reclaimed, representing its prompt and giving it the final victory in death. I have less to say on the mech, apart from the fact that it was fantastic. Very cute, I almost imagined a swarm of miniature versions running some Manor. Both designs were utterly rad. As for the pokemon, I hope you don't mind some critique. I wish a little bit more had been done to change/ramp up the design and theme. The cape like wings and claws were cool but personally I don't feel like they were quite enough. Also, the way the wings curve and the direction in which Noctavespa is looking and pointing reduces its sense of height. In addition, I don't think the crown shaped head really worked. Looked more goofy, and slimmed the head, making them even more bottom heavy. Not a problem if you went for the LOOM but like I said, I don't think you went hard enough there. I also would've liked to see something done with the bulb/stinger/honey sack at their base, rather than just making it larger. A bit more to shake up their character. But that's just me. Overall great work, really really looking forward to this series
Really love the immersion and presentation of Kaijune, and the theme looks really promising. Your creature art is amazing and always inspiring, and I'm also thrilled about seeing some more Mechs too. I'm also SO HAPPY about the Noctavispa re-redesign, I always felt (and commented) that the first redesign made it too round and less intimidating, here the feeling and edge of the first is kept and improved, and I like it a lot! As for the mega, I like the design and I feel like the nectar color change is a nice touch. As a reminder for next Megas, remember that some of them changed their typing even, so that can be a thing that expands your limits with concepts and designs from the base Pokemon!

kaijus must be really fun to draw! being the kaiju nerd i am myself, i will look forward to this series and maybe get inspiration from it! I actually was more interested in the kaiju than the pokemon, despite me adoring both.
That flavor you're adding with the narration and such adds so much. It heightens the great designs even more by creating a specific atmosphere for them
I fun detail I think you should add to the design of the mega stones. Each mega stone has a unique color palette that reflects the pokemon, it would be a cool detail to include.

been watching Subjectively since 2019-ish, and have always loved the contents. doesn't matter if there are more Mazah stuffs, or prompt list-based arts, love 'em all. I've enjoyed Mermay, Smaugust, and Apoctober, so Kaijune is a very welcomed addition. Keep up the good work, but don't over exert yourselves. 👍👍👍
I am surprised at how much I like Noctavispa now after the redesign! It went from forgettable to one of my favourites. It's pretty awesome to see how a few changes to proportion and shapes made such a difference.

Yeah, as always I love his work but there's not enough difference from the initial design for the mega to feel justified - there's no real concept or theme beyond "make it scarier" and it feels like there's a lot of missed potential there
When i see mega noctivispa, i only think of it saying "You may be a villain but you are not a super villain. What is the difference you ask? PRESENTATION"
I remember the first time I watched one of your monthly challenges. I'd intended to just skip to the pokemon, but watching the Mermay videos I was enthralled by the story. After that I started watching just everything on the channel and loved it. The 1900s in this setting must have been a royally messed up time. Also, so glad you went with megas. I love them myself personally. Mega Noctivespa looks great.
This concept already has my brain racing with ideas for how the kaijus effect the world. Like, products made using the organs and scales of kaijus, and stuff like that.
Despite this not being an existing pokemon, my mom saw me watching this and asked "is that a Pokémon?" even though she’s only familiar with like the 5 most well known gen 1 mons. That’s a testament to how well you emulate the Pokémon art style
Something interesting to keep in mind when designing mega's is that according to the sun and moon pokedex entries mega evolution is very painful for pokemon and it would be detrimental to their wellbeing if they were to stay in those forms. The pokedex says that mega scizzor has so much power that if it were to stay in its mega form it would melt. That idea is further backed up with many of the character designs such as gailee's broken jaw or swampert, and blastoise's completely impractical(more so than usual) body proportions. Another thing with new mega's is many pokemon selected for getting mega evolutions aren't viable for battle in ou and vgc formats and were given new forms to give them a better chance in competitive battling. I think it would be cool to see under used Gamefreak designed pokemon get some love in the mazah region with new mega evolutions.
Oh my god I love the new mega. I have always been a sucker for evil villain designs and you struck gold here. The atmosphere of World Eater is so awesome! I love both designs and the old 1930s and 40s radio style is truly beautiful. All in all, an amazing episode to kick things off

I was never a fan of the other drawing challenges admittedly, it was just never my thing. But for this one, I’m honestly looking forward to the challenge more than the Pokémon. This video was amazing.
Theories about what the other three pokemon'll be, cause why not So we know they'll be Fire, Bug, and Poison-typed pokemon... that includes Quetzillian (Fire) Chixulob (Fire) Mazian Maractus (Fire) Peroxotal (Fire) Zarcoil (Fire) Blazea (Fire) Ariamano (Bug) Macrabra (Bug) Maripome (Bug) Flitjitter (Bug) Tartusk (Poison) Gohila (Poison) Croacrozen (Poison) Suchobile (Poison) Potassopod (Poison) Hylarmos (Poison) Time to shrink down our list. Going to remove Quetzillian b/c the other two starters would also need megas and they don't fit typing. Going to remove Maractus because it's a regional form. Removing Zarcoil because Frizzard isn't included. Removing Tartusk (although it'd be really cool as a mega...) and Chixulob because the other fossil pokemon isn't included. Removing Maripome and Hylarmos because... i dunno, legendaries having megas feels weird. Removing Potassopod and Blazea because their split evos wouldn't be included. Removing Croacrozen because of its dual forms being annoying to draw (essentially like designing two megas... not fun) And so we're left with these as our possible options Peroxotal (Fire) Ariamano (Bug) Macrabra (Bug) Flitjitter (Bug) Gohila (Poison) Suchobile (Poison) Peroxotal being the only remaining Fire type in the list, I think it'd make a really good mega. I'm a sucker for Axolotls, so I might be a bit biased towards them being the one getting a mega, but yeah I'm super excited to see if I narrowed it down correctly! I personally can't see Ariamano or Flitjitter really having a mega? Possibly Flitjitter, but I think Macrabra would make a better mega! I'd love to see what happens with those Mimikyu vibes, whether we get to see its face because it's gotten too big for its shell, or if it's in a new shell Gohila and Suchobile... Ah, my beloveds. I could honestly see reasons for both of them being the recipient of a mega, with Gohila finally getting to be big and scary, or giving Suchobile a bunch more mouths to really push the weirdness. With either of these I'd be happy, but I think realistically Suchobile is more likely to be getting the mega! Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk :-)
I’m a big fan of the 40K titans that are basically giant knight mechas so I love your porcelain design because it shares a similar inspiration but you took it in a direction that’s much more elegant and chivalrous. Honestly will be really looking forward to the rest of Kaijune!
If I had to come up with a gimmick for the Mazah region it be something like Spirit Evolution, where a select few pokemon gain a new form plus typing based on a guardian Pokemon worshipped by the two ancient tribes. Similar to the Pokemon Nobles from Hisui. All of could be dual types, representing something for old vs new. Beast vs humanlike Craved statue/figures vs metal build machines.
I absolutely love your world building videos like the previous ones with mermay and apoctober and now this Kaiju setting, it's fascinating. Of course I love the Pokemon stuff too, but I'm a sucker for world building and the old-timey feel you give it all makes it super intriguing, I can't wait to see more!

That's what I thought! The patern on the bulb should be changed IMO, or the pattern on the OG Noctavespa's bulb should be removed

Mega Noctavispa feels like it unraveled its wings, then glowed a different color. It works, but it’s not different enough from normal Noctavispa.
Noctavispa and its line has for sure been one of my favourites of the Maza region, absolutely love the design and cant wait for the rest of Kaijune

I remember the first time I watched one of your monthly challenges. I'd intended to just skip to the pokemon, but watching the Mermay videos I was enthralled by the story. After that I started watching just everything on the channel and loved it. The 1900s in this setting must have been a royally messed up time.
Also, so glad you went with megas. I love them myself personally. Mega Noctivespa looks great.

This concept already has my brain racing with ideas for how the kaijus effect the world. Like, products made using the organs and scales of kaijus, and stuff like that.
Alas, poor Genesis... Such a large yet gentle creature, felled by a group - however well-meaning - who misunderstood its demeanor & core nature...

Despite this not being an existing pokemon, my mom saw me watching this and asked "is that a Pokémon?" even though she’s only familiar with like the 5 most well known gen 1 mons. That’s a testament to how well you emulate the Pokémon art style
It’s a given that art channels are creative but holy shit you guys take this to another level of not just art but content creation
Something interesting to keep in mind when designing mega's is that according to the sun and moon pokedex entries mega evolution is very painful for pokemon and it would be detrimental to their wellbeing if they were to stay in those forms. The pokedex says that mega scizzor has so much power that if it were to stay in its mega form it would melt. That idea is further backed up with many of the character designs such as gailee's broken jaw or swampert, and blastoise's completely impractical(more so than usual) body proportions. Another thing with new mega's is many pokemon selected for getting mega evolutions aren't viable for battle in ou and vgc formats and were given new forms to give them a better chance in competitive battling. I think it would be cool to see under used Gamefreak designed pokemon get some love in the mazah region with new mega evolutions.
I love how the intro to this has the old timey American accent that still had some British elements in it, very nice

The atmosphere of World Eater is so awesome! I love both designs and the old 1930s and 40s radio style is truly beautiful. All in all, an amazing episode to kick things off

I was never a fan of the other drawing challenges admittedly, it was just never my thing. But for this one, I’m honestly looking forward to the challenge more than the Pokémon. This video was amazing.

Removing Zarcoil because Frizzard isn't included. Removing Tartusk (although it'd be really cool as a mega...) and Chixulob because the other fossil pokemon isn't included. Removing Maripome and Hylarmos because... i dunno, legendaries having megas feels weird. Removing Potassopod and Blazea because their split evos wouldn't be included. Removing Croacrozen because of its dual forms being annoying to draw (essentially like designing two megas... not fun)
And so we're left with these as our possible options

Peroxotal being the only remaining Fire type in the list, I think it'd make a really good mega. I'm a sucker for Axolotls, so I might be a bit biased towards them being the one getting a mega, but yeah I'm super excited to see if I narrowed it down correctly!
I personally can't see Ariamano or Flitjitter really having a mega? Possibly Flitjitter, but I think Macrabra would make a better mega! I'd love to see what happens with those Mimikyu vibes, whether we get to see its face because it's gotten too big for its shell, or if it's in a new shell
Gohila and Suchobile... Ah, my beloveds. I could honestly see reasons for both of them being the recipient of a mega, with Gohila finally getting to be big and scary, or giving Suchobile a bunch more mouths to really push the weirdness. With either of these I'd be happy, but I think realistically Suchobile is more likely to be getting the mega!

I’m a big fan of the 40K titans that are basically giant knight mechas so I love your porcelain design because it shares a similar inspiration but you took it in a direction that’s much more elegant and chivalrous. Honestly will be really looking forward to the rest of Kaijune!

If I had to come up with a gimmick for the Mazah region it be something like Spirit Evolution, where a select few pokemon gain a new form plus typing based on a guardian Pokemon worshipped by the two ancient tribes.
Similar to the Pokemon Nobles from Hisui.
All of could be dual types, representing something for old vs new.
Beast vs humanlike
Craved statue/figures vs metal build machines.

I absolutely love your world building videos like the previous ones with mermay and apoctober and now this Kaiju setting, it's fascinating. Of course I love the Pokemon stuff too, but I'm a sucker for world building and the old-timey feel you give it all makes it super intriguing, I can't wait to see more!
