Don’t underestimate one of Lindsay’s Teachable classes. No ads, no media intrusions, just lots of fun and learning and escape. Nice selection of gift ideas.
Those Biaelk brushes in the case ARE FANTASTIC! I have had my set for over 2 years now and they are just phenomenal. The points are also fantastic on the quills for details so you can still do it all with that set!!
I do too! I've really enjoyed making palettes for friends out of either reused mint tins, or some inexpensive tins I got from Amazon, and half pans with magnet tape on the back. I even used white spray paint to make a white mixing space on the lid. Of course I always include a swatch card. It feels amazing to create a thoughtful gift out of stuff I *already* had around!
Also really budget friendly for a palette. I use a tile with a glass top. Watercolor washes away. For acrylic, I use a razor blade and scrape the paint into the trash. No paper plates for me. From a tile store.
14:25 I have a number of white deviled egg and other white divided dishes I've purchased from thrift stores. That's really the best place to find super cheap ceramic palettes. Heck, a nice big white plate for a buck or two would work just fine too!
I found a super cute ceramic pallette (it's a mini one) and it fits inside of a small watercolor tin. I'm in absolute love with it, I think the brand was called Bowerbird (fun fact, bower birds are real and they make little structures to display to females. They often adorn the structure with shiny rocks, feathers, and other objects.)
havent watched the video yet, but the "2023" in the thumbnail did make me take a double-take, as well as transport me back a year, thinking what i did 356 days ago XD
19:44 Omigosh the originals are getting re-released?? Yessss, I regretted not snatching them up when I had the chance!! Will be keeping an eye out for that! ❤
I bought that art easel after your recent demo of it. I also bought a cup clip to add to it so I will have two cups for water. Then I found a big rubber band to put around the box to hold the clip. I haven't used it yet, but think I'm ready when I do. Thanks again for the review and suggestion. I've been wanting one for a long time.
You picked out some great gift ideas I think. I see many things I would like to have, especially the color cubes and the Tonic paints. Thanks for sharing Lindsay. 🥰
Some things on my art wish list is the peg and awl sendak, art toolkit palette, a twsbi, let's go sketching board, and i'd like to try artgraf .... There is only one art shop in my town. It's quite a small one.
Definitely enjoyed this gift guide. So many cute items that also are super functional. Trying to control myself and not gift myself. Thank you for doing the video🙂
I love your gift guides each year & have marked a few things from this one to get for my hubby & sis-in-law. We do a daily art challenge (mostly watercolor) so those dice were on my list to give them this year. So I used your link & put them in my Amazon cart to purchase this weekend. I also have a couple things you mentioned that linked to Blick so thank you.
You always post this just as I’m thinking about it. Thank you!! ❤ It really helps me cuz I have an artist to shop for, but we don’t use the same mediums really and I’m never sure what to get for her.
I got the Lighwish wooden pochard box and I love it. It's heavy and made well. Also as an aside, you know those empty metal pallets that was sold in bulk? (I think 6 pallets for 12 bucks?) Those pans fit into this box. I also go the Tonic water colors which seems nice. Haven't used them a lot yet. I gifted myself. ;)
Ty so much this is super helpful this year for Christmas no doubt will be getting some of those you discussed in yoir video. Happy Thursday lindsay ty again for all you do 🙂🙂👍
Yay - I love gift guides. Do you know if the Paul Robens rainbow set use oxgall or gelatin? LOVE the Tonic watercolors. They're so much better quality than I expected!
Regarding your Wooden Watercolor Palette. I managed to get one also and was afraid the water would damage the wood by that little water cup, so I purchased a can of Restor-A-Finish, 16 oz, in Dark Walnut color and used that and I hope that it will help repel the water and it also helped the fact that the wood seemed awfully dry to me and now it is truly beautiful. It also seemed to take off some waterolor paint that I managed to splash over the side of those white paint holders. Just something to consider. I plan to use this while I recover from a shoulder dislocation, its not too heavy and I can paint from my chair in the living room. Oh, and those 2 screws at the bottom of the lid you can use to help hold down your paper while you paint- I think thats what they are for.
The code doesn’t work on the viviva website and the mediation ones aren’t on Amazon. I’m trying to get a 10% off code on the website but no luck. That little blue one is perfect my sister when she can have a few minutes to herself.
@@thefrugalcrafter they have an offer to receive a code if you sign up for their newsletter - so far no code. I sent them an email directly but no response. But I did get an email telling me I forgot to check out, lol.
It might be worth doing a gift guide for stocking stuffer items to provide less expensive art options that will fit in a stocking. There are two broad categories: art supplies that the person may never have tried and top quality supplies where a sampling can be provided to see if the artist is missing out on something. Here's a list of items that I think would make great stocking stuffers. I'm light on paints and brushes because I know less about them than you. There could be a colored pencil clipboard, an oil pastel one, and so on.
@@thefrugalcrafter Feel free to borrow and expand on the list. There are a host of other art resources that make great stocking stuffers that I didn't include out of exhaustion. There are brushes, shading stomps, electric eraser, silicon shaping tools, pencil sharpeners, fixatives, water/alcohol/acrylic markers, stamps, stencils, glitter/metallic/fluorescent media, and loads of other things you could pick out just looking at your stash. No matter how well stocked an artist is, there will be something they don't have or may want to try. I can't recall seeing a gift guide focusing only on comparatively inexpensive stocking stuffers.
What would you recommend for a great pencil sharpener? Got some nice watercolor pencils and am afraid to use until I get a sharpener that won't eat the wood or tips. Thanks!
I like this 6-8mm electtric one from Jarlink: amzn.to/3YWg3DD I've used it for years and it is still very shap. I use it for all pencils except for my Brutfuner square pencils (they are too big) and chalk/pastel/charcoal pencils.
I'd just like to let you know (and other artists, and people looking for gifts for artists), that there is a problem with third party sellers on Amazon selling art related products. This particular seller has Meeden palettes listed on there but they are switching the products with something else instead - I ordered a porcelain palette and was sent a vaccum pot instead. It is on the Amazon UK version of the site, so I don't know if they are selling in other countries, too. I wouldn't want anyone else getting caught up in the scam, especially if they are buying gifts for folks. I'm going to see if I can get it from Meeden's site instead.
That's so odd, I think all of these items are FBA sellers. You can always order from the meeden site. I have a coupon code for meeden (lindsay10 I think, check description to be sure) so odd. At least amazon had a good return policy.
That brass circle tool is a ripoff of the real thing. Amazon is slow to remove copyright infringement products. I have the real Iris tool which costs a little more than $100.
@@thefrugalcrafter Amazon actually carries the real one. It’s the Iris Circle Tool from Makers Cabinet. Thanks for the gift ideas.
